My first NEW car was a cream (chamois) '72 Vega GT Hatchback w/4 speed. I really loved the aesthetic of this vehicle.
Grumpy showed what the vega could do. Beast.
Owner of an original cosworth Vega right here!
...Only thing is that I didn't know what I had at the time but apparently neither did the guy who sold it to me...paid 1800 for it in 1983, Sold it for 4000 in 85' WITH a busted head gasket
My first car was a 72 Vega Wagon I V8 swapped about 1980. I built a 350 SBC similar to a 1970 LT1, but with a bit more camshaft, Chevys 292 cylinder heads & edelbrock Torker intake. Turbo 350 & 2500 stall converter, narrowed 12 bolt rear with 4:10 gears. Drag shocks & two batteries where the spare tire well used to be. It was quick and didn't spin the tires unless the asphalt was wet. Thie think I didn't do, but should have... was put subframe connectors in it. That engine cracked the lower front factory four link mounts and they started to peel off the car. I sold it. I wish I didn't.
Got a set of the 292 angle plug "fulie" heads on a 78 camaro rs.Back in the day, the 462 461 and 292 were the stuff.
2.02 valve heads (ported/polished & glass beaded) and a Weiand 360 intake with a 750cfm racing carb, 305 lift cam, dual idler gear drive and a dual fire HEI, TH350 with a B&M torque monster trans kit & a 4k-6k RPM torque converter with 4.10 or 4.30 R/P (or best choice M22 Muncie) would get you an easy 9-second car (I built a 600hp 283 with the above set up and put it in a '73 Nova (9.46 ET, 1/4 mile)
The Vega is one of the best-looking compacts ever it looks like a baby Camaro I'm running second is the Chevy Monza this is what compact cars should have looked like.
1 dealership put i think a 403 in a gremlin. I thought the Monza was cute.
The 454 version was around 6500 though which was a lot of 1970 dollars
Hard to believe you could stuff a 454 BB in one of those.
Wow, 6500 for a 454 Motion Vega! Steep price tag back then, but that power must have been incredible. Thanks for sharing!
I saw many in Virginia back in the 70's Coalminer loved racing
Wow, Virginia in the 70s sounds like a cool time for muscle cars. Did you ever race one yourself?
Don't forget the Cosworth Vega, The kit back in the day was from Don Hardy.
Someone else made this exact video word for word with different AI generated voice and images. The robots are taking over
Ha! Great catch, might be a sign the robots have good taste ;) But seriously, while the script might be similar, I hope the voice and visuals add a fresh perspective. Thanks for checking it out!
@@RareCarsRevivalIt's the same, bro.
My sister, and brother in law bought one of these for they're 1st car, a wagon, '71, I was taught to drive a car on this. I've told them , I wanted it. When I was 15yrs old, my sister asked me if I wanted it.....by this time, it wasn't running: had "VEGAitus",,,,,,,,I declined.
I saw one at a car show in Dunn.North carolina beautiful car original owner
Wow, lucky you! Original owner Motion Vegas are super rare. Any chance you got a picture? Would love to see it!
A friend of mine put Buick 215 V8 in his Vega a real sleeper
how about a small block 400 with 202 heads and the 19701/2 LT1 cam
My friend has a '72 Vega with a 460hp 327 Corvette engine. He turned low 9's in a 1/4 mile, at 155 mph
BS that Vega ran low 9's with only 460Hp!!!
Using a Motion Small Block kit from Hot Rod magazine I installed a 327 4spd w/ a 12 bolt rearend in my 71 Vega in 74
Wow, that's awesome! Love to hear about real-world Motion builds. 327 and a 12-bolt sounds like a fantastic setup - got any vids of it in action?
@@RareCarsRevival Had pictures of all my cars but my X-Wife Burned everything when I left her after she "Cheated" on me!
How fast were you doing the 1/4 mile with that set up?
@@johnnygguerrero1743 Low 11's the rear end had 3:23 gears so I could drive it on the street.
@@user-ThomReec8587 not bad for a Street car. Congratulations!
MOTION PERF. SHOULD HAVE MADE A C.O.P.O. CALL TO CHEVROLET AND PLACED THE ORDER FOR AN BIG BLOCK 454 LS- 7 AND MADE A SUPER VEGA. WITH THE PROPER COMBINATON OF DRIVELINE AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, THIS WOULD'VE BEEN THE ZL- 1 OF VEGAS .
WHERE ,IS IT AT ....? 🤨
You're not wrong! A Motion Vega with a 454 LS-7 would've been a monster. Imagine the sleeper factor combined with tire-shredding power. Maybe someday a builder will take on that challenge!
WHY ARE YOU YELLING!!!!
Private people have made those...
@@danmyers9372 I WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS.
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾✌
A aluminum 302 would have been awesome with a beefed up suspension.
You're not wrong! A 302 swap would be wild. Who knows, maybe that's a project for another Motion Vega video...
I would love to drive that....Sir love your way of thinking 🤔
...I built a Nova that way with airplane gears....not the quickest but fast... really fast....
@dannewth7149 Chevy 302 engines weren't anything special. All noise and no go.
V8S? Silly robot, I think you meant V8's.
V8s... V8's means it owns something...
My 1976 Monza was body kit on a Vega with 120 hp SBC lump, 9" disc brakes, 9" clutch > worst POS I ever owned
Haha, sounds like your Monza had a bit of a wild side! Not every car is perfect, but they all have a story to tell. Thanks for watching!
My brother traded a nice 67' Chevelle SS for a Monza. He was never happy with a car again. RIP, brother.
@gphil > my first new car, Motor Trend, Car Of The Year, Chevy Monza 1975 (POS) based on 1971 COTY, Chevy Vega (POS). My second new car COTY 1985 VW GTI (POS) with plastic heater core, failed but not warranty > MT IS POS
@@RareCarsRevival > updated with Motor Trend COTY failures (just my facts)
Put a 406 stroked sm blk
GM could never go production as a V8 vega would STOMP THE VETTE! And Chevy Div can’t have anything faster than the VETTE!!gms flagship car!
I lothe computer voices........😮picture NOT an m22.....c'mon man !
Huge Block? Must be a millennial robot 😅
Commentator you sound like a robot
A I (artificial intelligence)
EVERYTHING IS AI THESE DAYS AND IT SUCKS!!!
These AI car videos are getting really depressing. Apparently we need a soulless computer to read us essays about the cars we loved back in the day to make us happy now. Sigh....
W8 ..............you would figure a guy with 64 subs put in a little time on his project ???
@@dannycalley7777 You're not being sarcastic are you???
Thanks for your feedback! While some people love the nostalgia of classic car stories, videos can also be a great way to learn new things about these cars. Maybe there's something else on the channel you'd enjoy?
@@RareCarsRevival The problem isn't that I don't like nostalgic car stories, the problem is that there are so many channels like yours relying on AI to write and read them. It completely removes the humanity out of it, and what is the point of nostalgia without the humans? I'm probably replying to an AI generated comment for that matter, so what's the point? The human behind this machine obviously doesn't understand real human gear heads, or real human car culture, or he/she wouldn't need to ask a computer to make videos to leverage us for views. I reject your counterfeit in favor of the real.
@@webn8 Thanks for your thoughtful reply! I hear you, and you're right, there is a certain charm to the human connection in car culture. You get the sense of camaraderie, the shared passion, and the personal stories that come from real people.
While AI can be a helpful tool for creating content, it can't replace that entirely.
I'm always working to find ways to combine the efficiency of AI with the irreplaceable human element in car culture. If you have any suggestions for how I can do that better, I'd love to hear them!
Great photos but I'm tired of these AI voice videos.. Put in some effort!
Amen!!!
that was'nt "Chev" built
Dude, the "VEGA" , was SOOOO Beautiful. first edition, "71-73"............ like a mini Camero.
Yeah and the OE aluminum block 4 banger engines failed before 30000 miles. Cool looking little cars that were very poorly executed by GM.
@@danmyers9372 Yeah, such a shame!
Motion Vega I a contradiction of terms my step dad bout one new within 6 myths it burned more oil than gas and before a yr the body was completely rusted out it was complete and total junk !!!
74 Vegan GT…..worst car I ever owned
4 cylinder models were meant for little old ladies to get groceries and go to church without stopping at every gas station on the way. BUT! Drop in a 302/ 4:02 327/350/400 SBC or a 396/427/454 BBC with either a turbo 350/400 auto or Rockcrusher 4 speed and the 12 bolt... My Dad had a 468 4 speed Vega, it wasn't a motion car but it was a clone black with gold motion stripes and L88 hood and spoiler with weld drag lites that was scary fast! Handled like shit of course but it was alright at normal driving speeds.
This is why Ford put the 302 in pintos for emissions reasons
Ford NEVER did that while I worked on the line at the Dealership. They put the 302 2bbl V8 in the Fox bodied Mustang in 1978 Cobra. In 1979 you could get a 255 V8 in the Mustang Ghia. The largest Pinto engine was a 2.8 V6 shared with the Mustang. Pintos were easier to swap a V8 into versus a Vega, but required the engine to have a rear sump oil pan.
Not rare at all. Many Chevy Vegas ended up with a V8 engine. Vega had a great body design but crap 4 cylinder engines.
This feels like an AI generated spin up of a channel. No thanks.
