This is really stupid so don’t judge me, but I just noticed that August The eighth month is the eighth track on the album and now I’m really freaking out lol
Taylor sings "I've come too far to watch some name dropping sleaze tell me what are my words worth" in "the lakes", that can be a reference to Scooter Braun too.
mad woman is also a reference to Jane eyre (the mad woman in the basement and Edward's first wife) Edward kept his wife hidden in a basement since he was ashamed of her she also mentioned in the making of the man calling out the music industry " a man is allowed to react but a woman is only allowed to overreact "
I forgot to say this but Taylor mentions Jane eyre a second time with invisible strings as in the book it says " I have a strange feeling regard to you as if I had a string somewhere in my left ribs tightly knotted to a similar string in you " i think Edward said that
i also think that hoax can reference a bit of her life as well? the line “you know it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart”; and how “they” could be about the media and how “they” constantly demonize taylor
@@MadisonGraceN I actually always thought this song was about Selena and Justin. That line, the scars, in reference to Selena’s surgery. Taylor has mentioned using other people’s break ups as story lines now that she is in a solid relationship. For some reason, that is how I’ve always imagined this song.

this is the beauty of folklore lthough there might be a certain interpretation that taylor thought of while writing these songs they are all up for interpretation. like i always associated "this is me trying" with academic stress and validation especially with lines like "i had the shiniest wheels now they're rusting" hinting that it was easy to be a top student as a kid but as the years went on i wore out. mirrorball is a song i associated with being a people pleaser, always adjusting into peoples expectations and liking so they would like you. just my opinion tho have a nice days folks :)
Folklore is actually all about the life of Rebecca Harkness. Rebecca and Betty are the same person (Rebecca also went by Betty), and it follows her life from when she was a teenager in a love triangle in St. Louis; to the success she found after she left. Taylor sometimes gives us her own perspective on things and how Rebecca influenced her and how Rebecca’s story changed her perspective on life (TLGAD, Seven, Invisible String).
this is a great concept, but taylor stated in the long pond studio sessions how she purely wanted to put her imagination into specific songs. im not disputing what you said, but she has never stated that. she talked about how she had the mindset of a small quaint town with so much occurring/happening in it. :)
she also says in Betty when James talks about how Augustine said "get in the car" it's at the exact same time in August when Augustine says "get in the car"
hi i love this video so much (and the evermore one)! i just wanted to add some other information i retained for "the lakes - bonus track" and share it with you guys :) the song talks about how poetry is a dead art, just like her type/genre of music. now it seems that everyone is into the very superficial stuff and not the old, true, sentimental things. i think she explains it really well with the lyrics "take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die". i think it displays our new generation so well because shes saying that true authentic love and art is dying and it is our job to keep it alive!
I haven't listened to these two albums yet, I've always loved and respected her but this overview just brought tears to my eyes. She writes and sings so good, performs so good, a true storyteller
ok hold on, how did it take me 16 months to find out that the entire album isn’t exclusively about James, Betty, and Augustine lol? like, I obviously saw parallels with Taylor’s life, but I thought every song had something to do with the same love triangle
I *knew* mirrorball was Taylor's message to every listener going through Covid-19! It kinda makes me think of a song you'd hear in a graduation night party, which all 2020 graduates had to miss out on.
I always interpretated peace as a song about a love that isn't meant to be because the personalities don't quite match, and the narrator desperately wanting it to work out and be willing to give anything. Like "I'm not perfect for you, I will never give you peace, but I'm hoping I'll be enough if I give you my all". Reminds me of a relationship I went through that turned a bit toxic by the end.
I’d always interpreted “this is me trying” as Taylor speaking to the listener. It’s her confessing how she feels like she hasn’t handled previous things in the best way and that she wants us to know right now as the world is falling to ash, she is trying
When I listen to Folkore I always imagine "the 1", "august" and "ilicit affairs" is the perspective of augustine, "Betty" and "this is me trying" from James and "hoax" and "mad woman" from betty. But idk
Betty - 2:46 "get in the car" August - 2:46 "James get in" Cardigan - 3:14 " standing in my front porch light" Betty - 3:14 " I'm hear in your doorstep" Genius!!!!🙀🙀🙀
I went back to my "Liked videos" to rewatch your evermore video. Then I thought about checking your channel if you ever had a folklore video. Really appreciate your inputs about Taylor's songs. Maybe I'll go watch your covers next😁
i thought that illicit affairs was also a song about the love triangle, and how it was told from augustines perspective of how sneaking around and having an affair was really like...
Very nice, Madison! It is really nice to hear from someone so obviously educated, and well-spoken. When I saw the title, I thought this might be almost click-bait, but you did a nice job. No contractions, no slang, no profanity, no lol's- do you have any idea how rare that is in this world? You are obviously quite young, and I have to give you high praise and tell you that no matter the temptation to give in to the pressure to seen like a Marjorie Green- please remain this educated version of yourself! I will absolutely be subscribing, and recommending you to others. The other thing that was so nice, is the lack of drama. Thank you.
My tears recochet is a whole story about a wife killed by her husband, and now he pretends he is suffering the loss, but in secret he feels haunted by her. ( i know is inspired in Scott betrayal, just she was genious enough to make a whole story to portray that)
Woah this video taught that I’m a (me me me me) person because I tried to connect with the album in my personal life. Also that I know next to nothing about her life.
The genders of the characters were specified in the long pond studio session and multiple times when taylor talks about the songs not that the weren’t obvious lol💀

this may be a weird pov, but ive always thought that The Lakes was about her wanting peace, which only comes after death? i had always assumed it was about her wanting to escape life itself, is it weird that im the only one who thinks that? 😩

I see a lot of parallels between Hoax and My tears ricochet, and i like to imagine that they are sung from two different perspectives but about the same relationship. Its specifically the Fire/ash line that is used in both songs

Seven it the 7th track
@Rebecca Walsh omg!! mind blown
August; the 8th month is track number 8th, on the 8th album of Taylor
Taylor sings "I've come too far to watch some name dropping sleaze tell me what are my words worth" in "the lakes", that can be a reference to Scooter Braun too.

it could also be a reference to William Wordsworth, an english poet who wrote hundreds of poems while living in the lake district
For sure
