    mad woman is also a reference to Jane eyre (the mad woman in the basement and Edward's first wife) Edward kept his wife hidden in a basement since he was ashamed of her she also mentioned in the making of the man calling out the music industry " a man is allowed to react but a woman is only allowed to overreact "

    • @narjisseljarmi200
      @narjisseljarmi200 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I forgot to say this but Taylor mentions Jane eyre a second time with invisible strings as in the book it says " I have a strange feeling regard to you as if I had a string somewhere in my left ribs tightly knotted to a similar string in you " i think Edward said that

      @@MadisonGraceN I actually always thought this song was about Selena and Justin. That line, the scars, in reference to Selena’s surgery. Taylor has mentioned using other people’s break ups as story lines now that she is in a solid relationship. For some reason, that is how I’ve always imagined this song.

    this is the beauty of folklore lthough there might be a certain interpretation that taylor thought of while writing these songs they are all up for interpretation. like i always associated "this is me trying" with academic stress and validation especially with lines like "i had the shiniest wheels now they're rusting" hinting that it was easy to be a top student as a kid but as the years went on i wore out. mirrorball is a song i associated with being a people pleaser, always adjusting into peoples expectations and liking so they would like you.
    just my opinion tho have a nice days folks :)

  • @osielescalante2785

    Folklore is actually all about the life of Rebecca Harkness. Rebecca and Betty are the same person (Rebecca also went by Betty), and it follows her life from when she was a teenager in a love triangle in St. Louis; to the success she found after she left. Taylor sometimes gives us her own perspective on things and how Rebecca influenced her and how Rebecca’s story changed her perspective on life (TLGAD, Seven, Invisible String).

      this is a great concept, but taylor stated in the long pond studio sessions how she purely wanted to put her imagination into specific songs. im not disputing what you said, but she has never stated that. she talked about how she had the mindset of a small quaint town with so much occurring/happening in it. :)

    hi i love this video so much (and the evermore one)! i just wanted to add some other information i retained for "the lakes - bonus track" and share it with you guys :) the song talks about how poetry is a dead art, just like her type/genre of music. now it seems that everyone is into the very superficial stuff and not the old, true, sentimental things. i think she explains it really well with the lyrics "take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die". i think it displays our new generation so well because shes saying that true authentic love and art is dying and it is our job to keep it alive!

    I always interpretated peace as a song about a love that isn't meant to be because the personalities don't quite match, and the narrator desperately wanting it to work out and be willing to give anything. Like "I'm not perfect for you, I will never give you peace, but I'm hoping I'll be enough if I give you my all". Reminds me of a relationship I went through that turned a bit toxic by the end.

  • @MOONDEAN
    @MOONDEAN ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I’d always interpreted “this is me trying” as Taylor speaking to the listener. It’s her confessing how she feels like she hasn’t handled previous things in the best way and that she wants us to know right now as the world is falling to ash, she is trying

No contractions, no slang, no profanity, no lol's- do you have any idea how rare that is in this world? You are obviously quite young, and I have to give you high praise and tell you that no matter the temptation to give in to the pressure to seen like a Marjorie Green- please remain this educated version of yourself! I will absolutely be subscribing, and recommending you to others. The other thing that was so nice, is the lack of drama. Thank you.

    I always connect my tears ricochet with Karlie Kloss,mostly because of what she said in the long pond sessions abt it also being abt a betrayal from someone who you would never expect and then a reference to her songs “ you hear my stolen lullabies”

    I see a lot of parallels between Hoax and My tears ricochet, and i like to imagine that they are sung from two different perspectives but about the same relationship. Its specifically the Fire/ash line that is used in both songs

    Wait I thought the 2nd song in the love triangle was illicit affairs? I guess I was wrong

    • @charlos7040
      @charlos7040 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I thought that too at first. You can see it because the song is called “illicit affairs” and that fits in with the love triangle. but in all actuality it has a deeper meaning of her history with the press, record labels, starting out so young, etc....... you get the gist:))))

    • @tanyam.8743
      @tanyam.8743 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@charlos7040 i like to think that illicit affairs is also from the point of view of augustine, for example the line "don't call me kid, don't call me baby" hinting that it was just a random hook up for james but augustine actually fell in love with him and it's now hard for her to let him go so easily

    • @13alisonseven
      @13alisonseven 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like illicit affairs is from the perspective of a fourth person. she knows of the affair and watches augustine and feels sorry for her cause she knows that augustine is in love with james. maybe it's inez? cause that's the only other name mentioned in the love triangle story.. I don't know.. it's just a thought of mine.
      btw I'm a swiftie since 2008 and I always loved her lyrics but she really blew my mind with folklore and evermore :)

      @@tanyam.8743 yeah i def see ur point. maybe she tied it into augustine and maybe it was abt some personal stuff too.

    there is also another connection between cardigan and betty in the lines "will you kiss me on the porch" (betty) and "you'd be standing in my front porch light" (cardigan) (both about when james shows up at her house)

    idk if its just me, but i always thought illicit affairs could be about the love triangle. im not sure whos perspective it would be from, maybe someone outlooking on the situation, but not betty, james, or augustine. i could've missed something about illicit affairs being (or not being) related to the love triangle but i always just think about the love triangle when listening to it
