Honestly, if you were to do a video like this for each and every song I would watch them all gladly. I love your videos and your opinions on this song. You're amazing, Nena❤
agreed! I don’t know english so well to understand every hidden detail, so Nena’s videos helps so much! and also I see that she is a pro at lyrics and meanings.
This is my interpretation of the fortnight music video. I think it represents the 3 relationships she refers to on the album with Joe, Matty and Travis. The first scene where she is chained to the bed in a wedding dress kinda gives that symbolism of her feeling trapped in the relationship she had with joe with all her unfulfilled dreams. Then she goes into the bathroom to clean her face and then the tattoos appear. To me that represents the real parts of herself she was hiding from Joe to please him. Her compromising on a lot of things that make her happy for him to be to feel at peace in the relationship. Then you have the scene in the office with post. I think he's supposed to represent matty before them getting together as he has the tattoos on him representing his flaws. Them typing on the typewriter exchanging energies kinda gives that twin flame vibe. Like them secretly writing songs about each other and only them know it's about the other person. Then the scene that she's running up to him is them reuniting after Joe. He is without tattoos. I think it refers to him promising to change. Then you see that instant switch up from her being happy with him to being angry at him because she realizes it was all a facade. Then the scene in the with the electrocution is definitely a direct correlation with down bad. Him doing experiments on her then "saving" her from himself by leaving her. Then you see her having the meltdown with everything burning into flames. Her expectations and dreams that she lost in loml. Then the scene with her on top of the phone booth. I wouldn't have thought he was travis if not for the fact that there is a friendship bracelet hanging in the phone booth. I think that is supposed represent him trying to reach out but her was in her feelings and trying to process everything. He also dressed like one of travis' game day fits during December. Then he comes out to reach out to her and she holds his hand. The zoom on the hands kinda confirm to me it's travis in that last scene. She is wearing a bracelet that is kinda similar to what travis wears and post is wearing a pinky ring. Travis usually wears pinky rings. He wore it to coachella and the charity event. I think it's meant to symbolize that he stood in the rain with herto comfort her. Accepted her because he wanted to be with her.
I think a lot of her songs on TTPD are braided poetry. I looked it up and this is what Google tells me: “A braided piece is one that uses different strands - usually three separate story lines or topics, alternating topics sequentially between each of the three lines." She's been wearing the braids for this era and I feel like so many songs could be referencing multiple situations. I think you touched on that a bit too. I'd love to hear your breakdown of any/all of them. I think it is so interesting to hear what people are getting from her songs/poetry ☺
When I saw Taylor in the rain its like midnight rain reference, because, he is a sunshine so he is not so affected because he is under it, on the phone, also the rain reminds me of peace with the part of the rain always comes if you stay with me
around 2:11 I find it important not to read the "but I touched you" line NOT as just an abreviated repetition of the previous line, but a different thought: first line means more: i just touched you. Second line rather says: a) but I really went ahead this time and touched you (I hear you, Guilty as Sin!) and b) I left a mark on you, too, as in: I touched your soul.
I had never thought of the song like this! the way i had interpreted the line "I touched you for only a fortnight" as her maybe saying that out of the whole relationship, there was only a small portion of which she felt truly close to him. But i love yours as well!
When she says “I was a functioning alcoholic” it reminds me of the anti hero music video where she is constantly drinking and the bad side of her is pressuring her to drink
Your mention of her soaking in the rain atop the phone booth in the video made me think of the lyric in “The Black Dog” - “How my rain-soaked body was shaking” … Thanks Nena 🤍🩶
okay, i would say my english is pretty good. since i'm not a native speaker, your video just helped me so much to understand the lyrics even better 💯 please keep it up
Regarding quiet treason, I attribute this to her 6 year relationship and her many mentions of her partner’s tendency to pull away from her. She never calls it passive aggressive but that’s my takeaway. Thank you, Nena for this well thought out deep dive. ❤️
ONE THOUSANDTH LIKE btw I just watched your eras tour movie vlog from last year and I just want to say I have never heard anything as true and relatable than the stuff you said about missing the premiere. I’m such a die hard swiftie and it really does hurt watching people who are just swifties because it’s a trend to get invited to those things. I am happy for them but I’m also not, you know? Hi Nena can you do a lyric breakdown of the Black Dog because I would love to dive deeper into that song (and obviously it's your favourite and mine too)
Nena you have helped me become a swiftie & understand Taylor and the swifties. Like always your explaining in a way where everyone, (including newer swifties like me,) can understand and I love you for it!!❤❤
I’d love to hear a breakdown of any of them honestly but the bolter or I look in peoples windows or the tortured poets department would be at the top of that list. Love your breakdowns 🫶🏼
Wow, what a detailed, informed, and smart take on this song. It didn't grab me out of the gate, but like so much of her work, it bores itself into your brain and then you need to hear it again and again. And an(other) intriguing video. It feels like all the black-and-white and the kind of steampunk goth imagery ("my new aesthetic") are signaling the imminent Reputation TV. Also, the whole laboratory scene evokes the 1935 classic horror film "Bride of Frankenstein", which would resonate with the themes of constructing a wife for someone who may be a monster, or more to the point, a blameless monster who doesn't mean to hurt people and is misunderstood and hounded to destruction. I love all the very helpful cross-referencing you do. You're really good at this, and such a pleasant presenter!
Hello Nena, Thank you for your very intersting video! I wonder if you know a bit a The 1975's work, because there are plenty links with TTPD. I agree it’s about both of the muses. The beginning gives me more Joe vibes and later it gives more Matty vibes. I think several of the songs on this record are vague in a way that it could be about either of them and I think that’s intentional. I also think it interesting that up until Lover Taylor was a diaristic writer, but started writing fiction with folklore, but now seems to have mastered the blending of the two, like where at face value it seems like it could just be a story but it’s really a giant metaphor for something in her life.
I loved this video it made so much sense! I also loved your analysis of the video clip and especially the phone booth, omg. It is a really good explanation - she has taken all the media backlash from breaking up with Joe she’s in the pouring rain, he’s ‘safe’ in the phone booth ie ENGLAND. Amazing.
Love your interpretation of the Tattoo scene, and you def inspired me. My thought is maybe she is trying to hide her tattoo to accommodate Joe, and she’s done with that or whatever. She faced her true self after the relationship
17:38 my interpretation here is like boring and miserable in an endless world of love.. Because Feb is famous for Valentines day which signifies Love, so im thinking it was the metaphor of and it could be what Taylor meant.. That she is somehow stuck in this miserable state, love wise, over and over that she badly wanted to move on with her life but it just couldn't happen, or sometimes she thinks she is but it's just short-lived... P.S I love this song analysis Nena.. Keep it up 🤍✨
The last scene in the music video I believe is reference to Travis, reaching out to her grabbing her hand because they zoom into the bracelet on her wrist. And we know that their relationship started with a bracelet
Long time listener but first time commenting. I love love love how you broke this down for us. It makes so much sense! I've always thought of Taylor as a poet who just happens to deliver her messages through music because it's more fun for us that way. And with you explaining it for us even more, it's a new level of being amazing and fun!
This was amazing to watch , i would have not known have of the Easter eggs if it was not for you, another Easter egg I saw was in the beginning, the dress she wears ,that you said was a wedding dress, I think not only is a wedding dress but also her Grammy dress she wore when she announced TPD🫶🏻🫶🏻🔍🔍🕵🏼♀️
My birthday fell on a Monday this year and I happen to be born in February probably one of the worst days for my birthday to fall on. as soon as I heard the lyric, it reminded me of that happening to me this year and I don’t know what felt so good about hearing that lyric, but something did.
i loved this breakdown!! i feel like it definitely has a bunch of double meanings throughout the song and after watching this it all makes so much more sense lol! i would love to hear a breakdown of the black dog or the smallest man who ever lived
I saw on another breakdown that there is a poet called Sylvia Plath who died in “the endless February” and there is A LOT of connections to her in the song and the music video! You should investigate and make a video on this, think you’d find it interesting 💖
Such an articulate person Nena! Really enjoyed this, watched every second and found your insights fascinating. Renewed my interest in this song. Thanks ❤
The “my husband is cheating” lyric always made me think that even after all this time she still feels like her ex belongs to her because she thought they were going to be together forever. So he’s not actually “cheating” but seeing him be with his new wife makes Taylor feel like he is, if that makes sense.
This song gave me a headache trying to analyze. But actually I think this might be about her still being (unhappy) with Joe and thinking about the situationship she had with Matty back in the day. And then seeing him more often and starting to catch feelings again but both of them are in a relationship. I don’t know. But I really enjoyed your video and hearing your perspective. Thank you ☺️❤️
Oh, you need to awknowledge New Romantics: "Please take my hand and Please take me dancing, and Please leave me stranded It's so romantic" being connected to "How dare you think it's romantic, Leaving me safe and stranded" in Down Bad! She connects the whole album to her work that she did until now. imho my guess is, that she'll end the eras tour only as soon as Rep+Debut TV are out. It's her best ad to announce them at the tour, as we've seen so far. She'll have her re recordings, TS11 and her biggest tour wrapped up and could chill down for a time and proceed on being a director, a guide or whatever she's into. I could think she'd announce Rep TV soon and it could come in Octobre, as she likes to torture us with long waiting times and a new drop every few days of variants, merch and such! And after that, she'd announce Debut, ofc only after Rep Sales cooled down and it hat its time to shine. She'd release it somewhere in '25 and will announce additional concerts. Once Tour is over, her life work will be "wrapped up" to a nice Anthology ( ;) ) of TS 11 + TV's. She'd have a fresh start to whatever she'd like. i see many interpretations throughout the album and as said connections to her whole disco + concerts + trivia and so on. oh oh, just listening the last ten minutes while I typed this comment above and immediately thought about this.. because you said in the MV Posty just watches while they're doing the treatment... Down Bad again, starts with "Did you really beam me up, In a cloud of sparkling dust, *Just to do experiments on?* Tell me I was the chosen one, Showed me that this world is bigger than us, Then sent me back where I came from". Okay, experiments are a huge part of alien lore, but it fits just so nicely!
Hey Nina! I have a request for you to teach (for guitar). Could you teach us how to play Untouchable (TV)? I have the chords down and what fret the capo needs to be on, but the strumming is confusing Fret: 3 Chords (for the most part): Em, G (3,2,0,0,3,3) D, A If you can, thank you so much! - a nena shelby fan and life-long swiftie since 5 years old :P
Realizing that the line is “and for a fortnight there, we were forever” and not “and for a fortnight, there we were forever” makes the whooooole song make sense 😅 I was so confused 😂
When you can explain this song better than I can haha and it's the way that after watching this breakdown I listened to the song with such a fresh perspective and your explanations are probably why this song is in her old habits die screaming playlist!! Next up a Florida and or black dog lyric breakdown or honestly anything on the anthology lol
You mentioned the book in the mv as a reference to the story of us, but it was actually a reference to Gracie Abrams' Song us (feat. Taylor Swift), I think.
omg has it been a month? I have literally not listened to anything but Taylor for this whole month then. I played TTPD on repeat then relaxed with every other album on my All Taylor ♥ playlist on spotify. I can't believe its been an entire month.
To me, the psych ward was her dragging a$$ at the end and/or directly after the relationship with Joe, so she took the "miracle move-on drug" which was the Forget Him (Joe) Pills. We all know the easiest way to get over a past relationship is to start a new one (Matty), and I swear the symbolism of the reveal of Post's face tattoos represents the ingested pill that showed/created some new/old feelings for Matty, whose aesthetic is much closer to Post's. This feels to me like a short somewhat chameleon-like period where she absorbed a bit of his (Matty's) edgy quirks. The tortured poet hunched over a typewriter smoking a cigarette and eating 7 bars of chocolate may be a romanticized *part* of who she is, but it's not entirely who she is, whereas this aesthetic is completely Matty. And it's kinda no wonder to me that he wound up with a tattooed It Girl and she's now with America's Prom King. They didn't seem right for each other at all, at least superficially, which shouldn't matter but at the very least it was an odd pairing. It seemed like a relief for her to be around someone whose mind and creativity runs at warp speed like hers, but hopefully you get what you need, not necessarily what you want.
My feeling about the song as a whole is it's about the break down of the American dream: a long term relationship that's failing, and a longing for a past fling when you felt passionate and in love. Another fortnight lost in America: the passion which is lost when you're in an unhappy long term relationship.
Honestly, if you were to do a video like this for each and every song I would watch them all gladly. I love your videos and your opinions on this song. You're amazing, Nena❤

Great analysis.
Wow this is great! I love the idea of the tattoo’s being hidden parts of her!
Love this. Can’t think of it any other way now!
So when are you going to do videos with all your breakdowns of each song? Please?!!!

That is a catch. Think about Clara Bow, she mentions Clara, then Stevie and then herself.

Literally didn't think of that until now !
Also it rained at one of the Nashville shows (the ones matty attended). I think there is a connection.

Your interpretation makes the most sense of a lot of them.
Yes would love more breakdowns!! Enjoyed this one. Love your content.
Wow, Nena, you’re so right. I’m only halfway through and the song already makes much more sense. Thank you!
Regarding quiet treason, I attribute this to her 6 year relationship and her many mentions of her partner’s tendency to pull away from her. She never calls it passive aggressive but that’s my takeaway. Thank you, Nena for this well thought out deep dive. ❤️

First the eras tour with Kevin, then a Nena video!!! Today is so amazing. :))
Hello Nena,
Thank you for your very intersting video!
I wonder if you know a bit a The 1975's work, because there are plenty links with TTPD.
For exemple, the Fortnight video is very close to the esthetic of "About you" video. That's the song in background when Matty Healy saif "I love you" on stage to Taylor.
In this black an white video, you'll find, papers flying, a black dog crossing the screen, a mettalic crown,...
Even in the lyrics of song written about Taylor, you will find links (like "they're speaking about the weather").
Here a list of 1975 songs that I presume is about Taylor. (Don't come after me if I'm wrong 😅):
- "About You"
- "Me &You Together Song"
- "She’s American"
- "change of heart"
I think he referces mainly to her with "the face from a magazine"
And to finish, is it possible that "Style" (and other songs?) was about Matty Healy?
Maybe this could be the subject of another video? 🙂
In any case, that you for you work!
Best wishes from Belgium.
They met after 1989 dropped. Style isn't about him lol😂
OMG THE QUEEN UPLOADED
I agree it’s about both of the muses. The beginning gives me more Joe vibes and later it gives more Matty vibes. I think several of the songs on this record are vague in a way that it could be about either of them and I think that’s intentional. I also think it interesting that up until Lover Taylor was a diaristic writer, but started writing fiction with folklore, but now seems to have mastered the blending of the two, like where at face value it seems like it could just be a story but it’s really a giant metaphor for something in her life.
Love your breakdown and analysis. Also wanna say you’re a super sweet human being. 🌺
Amazing.

The last scene in the music video I believe is reference to Travis, reaching out to her grabbing her hand because they zoom into the bracelet on her wrist. And we know that their relationship started with a bracelet
Also Postie has different clothes on than what he had in the phone booth. No leather but a sweater.

This was so good! You should break down other songs, maybe others not necessarily done by Taylor.
Does the queen reply? ❤❤ btw nena, eachtime i see ur vid, i click faster than you could say sabotage

Hey Nina! I have a request for you to teach (for guitar). Could you teach us how to play Untouchable (TV)? I have the chords down and what fret the capo needs to be on, but the strumming is confusing
Fret: 3
Chords (for the most part): Em, G (3,2,0,0,3,3) D, A
If you can, thank you so much!

LOVE YOU SO MUCH NENAA
Omg do this for every Top Taylor songs please!!! ❤😊
PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THE ALCHEMY GUITAR TUTORIAL (as well as so high school)
Realizing that the line is “and for a fortnight there, we were forever” and not “and for a fortnight, there we were forever” makes the whooooole song make sense 😅 I was so confused 😂
When you can explain this song better than I can haha and it's the way that after watching this breakdown I listened to the song with such a fresh perspective and your explanations are probably why this song is in her old habits die screaming playlist!! Next up a Florida and or black dog lyric breakdown or honestly anything on the anthology lol
omg the anthology is FILLED with so much poetic meaning & literary devices🥹
@@NenaShelby NO SERIOUSLY
I’m watching this a fortnight after you released it
I love your analysis!👍Please do another song! 🙏🏼
I think Florida is a metaphor for Matty Healy. I think that when she is singing about Florida, she is talking about Matty.
You're are so slayyy.
wish I had swifts friends like you
I wonder if that book with US written on it was an Easter egg for her collab with Gracie on her upcoming album. Track 5 is called Us 🙂
It probably was lol regardless I am SO ready for that collaboration
it definitely was!💛
You mentioned the book in the mv as a reference to the story of us, but it was actually a reference to Gracie Abrams' Song us (feat. Taylor Swift), I think.
Nena where did u get that crewneck its so pretty i want one 😭😭
Nena Shelby is one of my fave TH-camrs great Swiftie, love you Nena!💚💛💜❤️🩵🖤🩷🩶🤎💙🤍
You should do this for every song on TTPD!
Thank you Nena 🫶

A NEW VIDEO❤❤❤LOVE YOU❤❤❤
Omg I always love her vids
DROP EVERYTHING NOW NENA POSTED 🤍🤍
omg has it been a month? I have literally not listened to anything but Taylor for this whole month then. I played TTPD on repeat then relaxed with every other album on my All Taylor ♥ playlist on spotify. I can't believe its been an entire month.
time flies 🥹🤍
@@NenaShelby lol for real ❤️
Nena always on point
ooooooh i didn't really get this song before, but this breakdown made me love this song more
My feeling about the song as a whole is it's about the break down of the American dream: a long term relationship that's failing, and a longing for a past fling when you felt passionate and in love. Another fortnight lost in America: the passion which is lost when you're in an unhappy long term relationship.
AAAAGGGHHH IVE NEVER BEEN THIS EARLY
🥰👋
Can you please do a breakdown for robin and the manuscript
