when you see it in writing, you notice how much information is in this video, thank you, will save this in my notes and work on it next time im on the ice, having to pull out the video everytime to remember something isnt really convenient, Thank you again
This is great stuff. Where were you when I started skating 22yrs ago in men’s league. This gives me something to look at and be able to practice. Keep the videos coming.
You are an awesome coach and an absolutely skilled player! I started playing hockey half a year ago and it's depressing and motivating at the same time seeing your amazing skating shooting and stick handling skills
You got to start small. Then, as you progress, add more. Practice stick handling stationary. Look at the puck a few minutes, then lift head. Start stick handling with dominant hand 5 minutes. Then your other hand 5 minutes. Then, use both hands. Keep bottom hand very loose. You can set up a pattern with cones or objects in a tick tack toe pattern. Start doing basic stickhandling pattern 5 minutes each hand. Then 5 minutes together. Once you develop Start walking and stick handle. Then, after a while, start running while stick handling. There's stick handling drills you can watch. Also, exercise videos to watch for hockey for constioning.
Love your videos! But can you do one little thing for people with hearing loss? Can you enable closed captioning? I don't want to miss out any details! I've used some of your videos already and I'm already making a great progress! Just don't want to miss out any small details that I may have missed. Thank you so much! Keep up the great job!
That move you used towards the beginning where you dragged it, picked it up on your stick and grabbed with your hand to use the example of a baseball. Do you have a video that shows the technique to do that?
What's funny about this... I look at the title - "intensive", yeah, sure, clickbait, and then I watch it, and I'm like "Ohhhkay, that title is pretty accurate". Good stuff, thanks for creating these videos!
Thank you iTrain so much for posting such detailed, extensive videos on these things! I've already used this puck handling intensive in my practices. It's really helped me handle the puck better!!
These videos are incredibly great - for all ages & skill levels too. I get a lot out of them and I’m an adult playing since age 7. But I have one question for the creators of this vid. Looks like ur in Toronto. Is that the Bellwoods rink? Christie Pitts, maybe? I thought I recognized it. Or maybe Dufferin Grove? Just curious, eh, lol. BTW these outdoor rinks that pepper the Toronto city landscape are literally THEE best place to visit if you want to play free shinny - age 16 and over in the evening/15 and under earlier. There’s always al least a few really good kids playing among the group- the rest are generally all decent and competent. If your low skill level it’s a great way to pick up your game because all are welcome. AND, they’re also fantastic places to try out some of the drills and techniques that these iTrain videos show you. Many rinks have an additional pad next to the hockey pad that’s for skating only, if you want to work that, or just pleasure skate. It’s serious practice for many of these kids who are all playing on competitive teams, trying to grow in their skills, but nonetheless, one can never separate the fun out of it. No ones mean or anything. Lots of laughs, lots of camaraderie, great sportsmanship, and of course, the magic that seems to consistently permeate from of the flow of this amazing sport. Good times. Great memories! And thanks again for this iTrain videos.
I started doing stick-handling exercises about one year ago, from a very low base. It is obvious that repetition is the key to ingraining these motor patterns into one's memory. I would guesstimate that it takes about 3-5,000 times per exercise, including on-ice, and off-ice to be reasonably proficient at doing the movements in an amateur game level. As an aside, shooting 25,000 pucks makes one quite good at doing wrist shots from a low skill base. Repetition, repetition, repetition.
@@roninpwns Yeah, about that. I stopped playing hockey a year ago. The pandemic happened - ice rinks closed, and my old life ended. Anyhow, life is weird. I published two books since writing this comment :)
@@roninpwns Thanks; it's weird how life works. I moved to the Czech Republic to play ice-hockey (as a hobby), and since the pandemic I've gone down a different road (but still in Prague!). Thanks. Best wishes from Prague.
You’re absolutely right… countless hours.. countless.. on rollers with a green biscuit at the tennis court.. and a dozen skates at the ice rink (both open practice and pick up) and wrist shots are only just starting to click. Lmao. Not to mention the endless education via youtube coaches. As an adult hockey has an insane learning curve. Very challenging but also rewarding if you have the time/ access to rinks. Wish I had started as a kid but better late than never. Stuck in kuwait for a couple more months before I can get back home and get more ice time
Ive watched a lot of tutorials and u are by far the best. is it possible to demonstrate forehand to backhand move when approaching a goalie? This, i find, is tremendously difficult. Yet so many players make it appear so fluid and seemingly "easy"... thanks for all your help.
Thanks very much Mobesters! Great to hear from you and hope this video really helped you out! We'll be adding more videos directly to our new iTrain Hockey website which will be launched on May 1st. I don't have trouble when standing still or moving minimally while stick handling. My issue is in a real pickup game I cannot stick handle going full speed or when the pressure is high, any tips?
The game in large part is muscle memory so you have to practice at the speed you want to play at. A lot of moves can be done without even looking at the puck, just to prove the point. The best players constantly push themselves to do things at faster speed to improve where they're at. You must do the puck handling repetition at game speed.
5% of the population is left handed, but 20% of hockey players play left handed. Grab a couple of cheap sticks, one of each, and decide whether you like your right hand at the top (left handed stick), or your left hand at the top (right handed stick). There's no correct answer, it's all about what feels comfortable to you. Good luck!
Thanks very much for your comment Mike! Great news, we've made a couple snap shot videos now which will be posted to our website very soon! We teach how to shoot on the front leg and off leg both stationary and in-motion at top-end speed. iTrain Hockey amazing news. I've used your videos to develop my game and they have certainly helped a lot. Look forward to seeing your examples of the snapshot
I have a few questions if anyone can help me out. I'm a decent skater but my progress is limited because I can't properly crossover without my ankles kinda bending. I can can also stop on my strong side, what can I do to to strengthen my left side?
Just practice man. Exaggerate your knee bend. Next time you play pickup, make it a point to stop on your weak side 10 times, then 15 times, etc... then it will just become natural. I remember first starting and had to do that until eventually I was surprising myself when I would stop on my off side without even thinking about it. Your cross overs, again, exaggerate that knee bend, your ankles are bending because your knees probably aren't bent enough. It may feel like they are, but have someone record you, you will probably be standing nearly straight up.
Thanks very much Johansson! Haha! Great to hear from you and hope this video really helped you out! Yur sick dont stop man !
You must be at pro level by now 👀
@@roninpwns Yeah, about that. I stopped playing hockey a year ago. The pandemic happened - ice rinks closed, and my old life ended. Anyhow, life is weird. I published two books since writing this comment :)
@@threethrushes Congrats on the books! Hope you find the motivation to start playing hockey again 🤙🏾
Stuck in kuwait for a couple more months before I can get back home and get more ice time
Agree - these videos are the best I have seen - great work!
This is so awesome. Thanks!
Loving these videos! I watch them every day. Thanks, Sean!
Great tutorial! Thanks from Russia!
at 35:00 why is it not ok to let the top hand do the work instead of the bottom?
Thank you so much for your vídeos and uour tips, They are helping too much.
Ive watched a lot of tutorials and u are by far the best. is it possible to demonstrate forehand to backhand move when approaching a goalie?
This, i find, is tremendously difficult. Yet so many players make it appear so fluid and seemingly "easy"... thanks for all your help.
+R Fox You should probably go see Pavel Barber for that
Красава!! спасибо всё наглядно и технично!
Thanks very much Mobesters! Great to hear from you and hope this video really helped you out! We'll be adding more videos directly to our new iTrain Hockey website which will be launched on May 1st. Good lesson for the Hockey player!
thanks.
cheer up!
Great videos! Could you make an intensive on snapshots?
that's a nice rink . why aren't the lines in the ice?
Well done. Thank you.
@@rh71 Thank you
Sean, should a right-handed person use a left-handed stick and vice-versa? I am new and looking for your advise, thank you!
Good luck!
How long do u usually do these drills individually?

Where in Canada is this? Look awesome!
Toronto
wish he'd do a snapshot video like this
Thanks very much for your comment Mike! Great news, we've made a couple snap shot videos now which will be posted to our website very soon! We teach how to shoot on the front leg and off leg both stationary and in-motion at top-end speed. Thanks for your suggestion - Sean Walker

iTrain Hockey amazing news. I've used your videos to develop my game and they have certainly helped a lot. Look forward to seeing your examples of the snapshot
so cool!
Good stuff
man that ice looks and sounds hard
How do you find that ice unoccupied so often? If that rink was in my town it would be busy 24-7
Some places let you rent public rinks or you can shoot early in the morning
Where is this outdoor rink?
i like it, i like it, i like it
Execution, and the how and the why.
How do you move the puck so quickly? Is it just muscle memory or is it strength?
Both
Frighteningly good skater
God this guy is good
where is this rink located?
im guessing this was filmed a while ago and this isn't what spring looks like in Canada? haha
When doing c-cuts going forwards, why do you raise your toes off the ice? You don't raise your heels when doing c-cuts going backwards. thx.
Ken MacKenzie just try it and youll see why
Hey Sean
Slide our hand up and down our shaft, hehehehehehe
How long should your stick be??
8:40 🤣
Dude please upload
Thanks very much Johansson! Haha! Great to hear from you and hope this video really helped you out! This man seems like he was born with a stick in his hands and skates on his feet. Clearly has an insane amount of hours training.
Anyone feel like timestamping all these different moves? :)
humber valley
@Ben thought for a sec it was ramsden park
This is porn to me. I love hockey
Im masterbating as we speak
MY SHOULDER IS ON FIRE!!! Is that normal? lol
3:15 "Zuuuluuu, just along for the ride."
This guy might be able to beat datsyuk at 1 on 1
I was tempted to buy PVC pipe to ensure my left hand doesn't grip stick too tight. I won't because I can put that money toward hockey tape
My puck just turns up and down...
Wait a second, are you telling me I'm supposed to be using my dominant hand as the top hand? I'm right handed and have been using a right handed stick this whole time...
I am right handed. Just got back into hockey and I bought a right handed stick 2 minutes after being on the ice I figured out I am a lefty.
why isnt dude teaching the preds :o
I’m gonna be honest I can’t flex my stick with one hand
Sami is better
