- 'The Little Mermaid' voice actress Jodi Benson chatted with ET in 1989 about bringing Ariel to life in Disney's iconic animated musical. The Broadway star shared her excitement for voicing the first redheaded princess in Disney history at the time. Jodi also recalled the first time she heard her voice on the big screen, as she’s credited with kicking off Disney's '90s run of cartoon classics.
35 years later, The Little Mermaid still is a Disney classic.
The fact that this 2D hand drswn animation still hold up to this day. I really miss the 2D classic animation of Disney.
The Little Mermaid has been one of my favorite Disney animate movies of all time. Jodi Benson truly brought Ariel's character into life. She is so amazing and inspiring.
I just watched it the other night, it's so magical.
This will stand the test of time that how classic it is with great characters and amazing music future generations will still be amazed by it
And then confused by the live action the little mermaid and the new kids show
I miss Disney animated movie so much
Don't waste time. You can make one. Don't be needy to ask someone.
@@張寧-j2i It's easier said than done though. Animation is time consuming and very expensive.
My favorite Disney legend, my favorite Disney princess, my favorite Disney renaissance movie, my favorite soundtrack 🥹
Ariel was my fav as a toddler I loved the tail etc until I was a teen then realized how terrible it was to trade in ur fins for a man. Now Mona is my fav
Wow, Jodi Benson will always be my most favorite Disney voice actor. 🧜♀🧜♂🐠🦀🦞🌹🐚🌊🐟🦑
Same. She's one of my best favourite Disney's legends.
Happy 35th anniversary The Little Mermaid 🎉🎉🎉
will always be one of my favorite disney movies
*she’s still a knock-out today!* ❤
Nice to see the original mermaid and not the remake
It’s the animated classic’s anniversary, why would you have to see the remake? Gosh, sometimes I just don't understand people, you could have just left a nice comment about this without necessarily mentioning the remake but hey, you couldn't miss the chance to let everyone know that you don't like the remake, right?
I couldn't see the remake as of summer because I was busy paying bills and going to a now-defunct home and furniture place.
I Love Disney animated musical classic The Little Mermaid and love Ariel beautiful singing. 🧜🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯💯💯
You're still the legend of the beautiful voice! No matter how old it is but you are the greatest person in the world that you are loved from all of us❤🎉
I love Jodi Benson
The real voice of Ariel!!! ❤❤❤
35 years and I still love the movie The Little Mermaid, Jodi Benson, and of course her character's voice Ariel.
LIKE WHOO TOLD HER SHE COULD POP OFF LIKE THAT😭😭😭 what a freakin classic man
She is amazing and talented actress i love her since i watch the little mermaid when i was kid
I saw this in the movie theater atleast 20 times. It's still magical today.
Happy 35th anniversary to The Little Mermaid! Ariel's my favorite Disney princess! Jodi Benson was the perfect voice for her!
Happy 35th anniversary to The Little Mermaid!
Back when Disney was good.
Back when Disney was not woke
No matter how much inclusive and diverse is Halle's expressionless Ariel, Jodi's Ariel is always gonna be the best Arie ever.
I wished my favourites past Disney animated series like The Gummie Bears, Darkwing Duck, Mighty Ducks,Wuzzles, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, House of Mouse, Kim Possible and American Dragon Jake Long are onto a complete Blu- Ray (with the entire episodes)at last just like they did for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Tangled the animated series. Because some of the Disney film like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Hercules for examples have their own animated series which is why I still think that the past Disney animated series deserved to be released onto Blu-Ray at last more than the Disney films while at the same time honour the memories of the voice actor/actress who has passed away.
7am Saturdays I was UP with no alarm clock for the little mermaid. Lol Only day of the week I wanted to wake up early.
Just iconic! I absolutely love her!
Happy 35th anniversary The Little Mermaid
Happy 35th Anniversary, The Little Mermaid!!!
This will always be the real little mermaid.
I say the female cartoon character that Jodi Benson should've voiced instead of another voice actor is Secret Bear from Care Bears (Nelvana Version). I know Secret Bear was originally voiced by Anni Evans in the 1st film and she was silent in the rest of the Nelvana franchise.
(Sorry this is off topic)!
My childhood memory the little mermaid will always be my second favorite disney movie my first favorite is the lion king
Jodi Benson will always be my Ariel. Her daughter played Ariel in a local stage production in Miami. I’m hoping when Jodi eventually retires from voicing Ariel for Disney related projects, she will pass the torch to her daughter. In fact I remember reading that she would like to pass the torch to her daughter when she is no longer able to voice Ariel 😊
I love the little mermaid 🧜♀️ one of my favourite Disney movie ❤💜💚
Sighsss....nostalgia
Iconic Voice ♥♥♥
Happy 35th anniversary to The Little Mermaid.
My fav Disney movie ever

I love Jodi Benson as Ariel! 🧜🏻♀
Greatest animated film ever
Happy 35th Anniversary to The Little Mermaid! 🧜♀️
The little Mermaid 🧜♀️ always forever mine Disney animated film I said it before Ariel is only Disney Princesses that so magical beautiful mermaid 🧜♀️ ❤❤❤❤. I have celebrated so many years other stuff that involves The little Mermaid like watching Sofia the First and Tv series playing live performance from Disney on Ice through Broadway 🎉❤🎉❤🎉.
Love me some little Mermaid Love Jodi Benson
Happy 35th anniversary of “The Little Mermaid”!
I love Jodi
Loved this movie so much to the chagrin of my parents 😂
Jodi so beautiful ❤
I'm sure if there is a good version of Vanessa (voiced by Brooke Shields), she would have helped Ariel and Eric and even try to stop her imposter from ruining Ariel's life and get away with bad stuff. I'm also sure she would have also defeated Ursula
in a more effective way which we never even imagined in the original animated film, but in an alternate version of the film people love. Plus, wouldn't it be great to discover her father voiced by Phil Harris, her mother voiced by Angela Lansbury, and 2 older brothers named Derek and Ken, 2 talking pet cats voiced by Henry Winkler and Ron Howard, a fiance inspired by George Michael and Brad Pitt, a job in a restaurant as a clerk similar to Chuck E Cheese's, Dave and Busters, and Goofy Goobers with characters from previous Disney films like Penny, Christopher Robin, Arthur Pendragon, Pinocchio and Lampwick, Jenny Foxworth, Alice, Wendy/John/Michael/Lost Boys, and Mowgli (with a refined appearance in a 1950s aesthetic) and Shanti (with a refined appearance in a 1950s aesthetic), Jane and Michael from Mary Poppins, and Von Trapp Kids (if Disney made The Sound of Music (1965) instead of Fox) appearing as animated cameos. Wouldn't it be also great with Olivia Newton John voicing Ariel and John Travolta voicing Prince Eric reminding us of Danny and Sandy from Grease, having more musical scenes due to them and Stockard Channing playing one of Ariel's sisters? Wouldn't it be awesome if Glut the Shark spoke English and Tim Curry voiced him? Wouldn't it be also great if Prince Eric's dog Max speaks English voiced Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey from Full House) expressing his humor and having his songs talking about how sexy Ariel is? Wouldn't it be great if there are more talking animal friends voiced by Pat Buttram & Eva Gabor? Wouldn't it be great if Mary Poppins and Bert made animated cameos in the wedding chaos with Vanessa's imposter and Eric and Good Version of Vanessa trying to stop her imposter?
Born in 84 and a redhead. Was so obsessed with Mermaid. True classic. Now I get to share it with my daughter. 💗🫶
Back when they focused on 2D hand drawn animated art that had so much life and soul that sadly we never get back. Disney is too busy on soulless live action remakes and now plan on using AI in their works...
Jodi Benson IS Ariel, nobody could replace or outdo what she brought to the role.
I love it!❤
Wow! I always wondered who the voice was of the lil mermaid. ❤
I love Jodui Benson.
I wish Howard Ashman casted Olivia Newton John to voice Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid because her role as Sandy from Grease and her role as Kira from Xanadu are similar to Ariel. Plus, Olivia Newton John’s voice sounds so more sweeter and smoother and able to get the Melody, rhythm, and harmony nailed whereas, when it comes to Jodi Benson’s voice, it sounded very intense, too stiff, and sings offpitch when it comes to the melody, rhythm, and harmony. Because of Olivia Newton John’s acting and singing roles that are like Ariel (like Sandy from Grease and Kira from Xanadu), she has a lot of acting and singing experience in film whenever it comes to roles like Ariel, whereas Jodi Benson was just new to acting back when she was offered the role of Ariel and she was typically an amateur. Therefore, Howard Ashman should have casted Olivia Newton John to play Ariel and make the melody, rhythm, and harmony of Part Of Your World in a Disco Pop style almost like Olivia Newton John’s Physical and Olivia Newton John’s Landslide. Therefore, it would have been appealing, lit, and awesome!
Ariel - My Heart Will Go On from Titanic 🚢
Now it’s been discovered that she is Suzetta Miñet and behind Eva
I wish a Good Version of Vanessa (voiced by 80s star Brooke Shields) would catch her imposter that Ursula disguised as, catching Ursula (who disguising as her to marry Eric, rule the ocean, ruin Ariel’s life and put her life at risk) red handed, confront her, and bust her along with her having 2 talking pet cats named after Cruella Deville’s henchmen from 101 Dalmatians by the names of Jasper (black and white cat looking like Cat from Nick Jr. Show Little Bear voiced by Henry Winkler) and Horace (orange cat looking like Thomas O’Malley from Aristocats and Oliver from Oliver and Company voiced by Ron Howard).
I wish live action Ariel resembled this!
I'd love to do voice work for Disney that would be fun.
The Little Mermaid 35th Anniversary 🐙🐚🐠🐟🐬🐳🐋🌊
Ariel is the sexiest Princess
That guy lost her to Solid Snake
Disney has gone down the toilet drain no more of that genuine feelings in a movie when it ends and no more 2D
"The first redhead Disney heroine ever" and it was all destroyed for us little gingers when the woke live action stole a piece of our childhood
Wow so black girls aren’t allowed to have someone they can look up to? That’s only for privileged ginger kids?
Oh no, I guess our lives are now ruined forever! 😢
@@Frankfreaksdude you’re under every damn comment. Just say you’re woke and disgusting and move on with your life.
The live action movie is not woke and it did nothing to effect you or your childhood delusions. But im about to, Ariel is NOT and was not a ginger. Her hair color is artificially designed to contrast the amount of light from the sun reaching her while swimming at various depths in the ocean. It cannot be achieved naturally, which was why when it was tested, it was not used for the live action because it is was too cartoonish. It was designed that way! She wasn't even originally supposed to have red hair. But the studio didn't want another blonde mermaid because they already had Madison from SPLASH. Every REAL fan knows this, now you do too ❤
@@davydukes8391nah, it's the MAGAt's favorite word when people dont agree with them, they would accuse em of being woke for not agreeing to disagree.
Jodie Benson, the real Ariel and not Halle Bailey
Was that Jodi Benson in 1989?
Yes.
@@KARDisney when she was doing the interview?
@@georgearaman7211 this interview was filmed back in 1989, because the film turned 35. You can see that wavy 80s hair style.
@ Got it
Jodi has never aged like fine wine 🍷
Sometimes, I wish Ariel is a real human at age 25 so I can flirt with her!
Well it was one of my favourite films untill Disney tainted the name of it with doing the live action even she said Ariel was the first red headed heroin and the live action depicts no such type of red hair at all so even though they say they are being (diverse) they are not as it's now not a red headed girl/mermaid anymore they've taken away what we grew up with even doing a kids show taking away any white people in it and making everyone black which is ridiculous I can't watch the little mermaid anymore it just ruined a childhood memory for me.
the new one was good right? right?
As good as it could be but in it's own way. Still the original is much more preferred.
The new one sucks
It was horrible, it was diverse, it was inclusive, but horrible at the end of the day.
I thought it was good for what it was, regardless of race, inclusion, diversity or appearance. But some things could have been better.
@@sbarrow06 nahh it was horrendous, even if it was white who play it, it still would've suck, just live the cartoons alone they don't need to be action live
What about Merida in "Brave"? She was a redhead.
This interview with Jodi was filmed way before Brave came around so Jodi was actually right about Ariel being the first red haired Disney princess at the time.
The Little Mermaid came out in 1989. Brave was released in 2012.
That was afterwards. Ariel was the first Disney redhead character.
please use your brain.
