You forgot to mention that No Mercy's Director is also working on AEW's game.
Another thing I LOVE about No Mercy: there are NO ratings for wrestlers. Is anything possible? You got it. You want a jobber to bury Triple H? Done. You want midcarders to main event Wrestlemania? Done. You want your CAW to breeze through everyone else? Done. The silly and the should-have-been is possible, and the underdogs don't have to be on the losing side cause the champ is an 99 overall.
There’s is no rating per say but there’s a parameter section each wrestler has. So they have points in each of there body sections and so some have more than others.
Maybe no ratings but try lifting big show with rey Jr

No lie, no mercy was the best wrestling game to this day, these new ones are complicated and boring
Experiencing the events that lead to AEW in real time, and then watching AEW since the beginning it's been pretty freakin crazy seeing how much they've consistently grown. Just looking at their roster now compared to the first Dynamite is crazy. I live in Florida and took a 2 day trip to see Dynamite last Wednesday. Majority of the people I talked to didn't watch wrestling until AEW, or haven't watched WWE in years. That's good to hear because it means AEW has a fanbase they organically made outside of fans who also watch WWE.
I remember hearing about aew, and people telling me it was the best wrestling. I started watching WWE because of the fiend after not watching for nearly 10 years. Grown to hate WWE because of the lack of quality when I could just watch aew

Well considering Kenny is a big fan of this game and is involved in AEW game's division here's hoping for something as good as this game.

VPW2: Freem Edition. It adds wrestlers from Revenge, WM2000, No Mercy, and New wrestlers into one game it's a dream come true. AND it plays on Everdrives on original hardware

I went to the debut Dynamite in DC 2 years ago, paid $20 a ticket and had an awesome time. Can't wait for them to come back here!

@@DonDotto99 this has been one of the best stories they’ve done. I can’t wait to see what else MJF can do against others on the roster, maybe even a true feud with Sammy Guevara! That match was brilliant, I’ve been waiting to see those two finally go at it!
Mjf makes me mark out. The guy is growing in leaps and bounds, even moreso since the start of the jerico storyline. At the end of the storyline, mjf gets put over and as hes celebrating being the new mega heel- cue Danielson entrance. Insane pop. Easy butts in seats for that

@Top Hat Gaming Man, you know, the Wrestling Wars really began when, of all the irony, Vince McMahon tried to buy up NWA when it first started to air one of its weekly regional shows, which would end up becoming the WCW professional wrestling organization, outright around 1983 but people were so angry at him for not only trying to buy out WCW, but that he was also the heir apparent that was going to be leading the WWF, and, though he succeeded, around 18 years later in 2001, the cost has proven to be a rather Pyrrhic victory for him and I am convinced that AEW will do to the modern WWF, which is called WWE now (damn you, fraudulent envirotard organization), what he did all of those years ago and that the WWE will cease to exist as an organization within five years or less, one way or another.
No Mercy has the best gameplay any wrestling game ever de offered before and after. I'm glad people are still modding it to this day.

@@smhgaming3259 Not even close to the depth and replayability of No Mercy. Tho it's apples and oranges. No Mercy is a simulation and HCTP is pure arcade.

Pretty sure that SmackDown 2 menu music is what the Aliens play on a loop while cruising through space.
If I had the time and patience I would take one of my Wrestling games (SvR 08, No Mercy, 2k19, ect..) And make a custom promotion. I would create/edit wrestlers, managers, belts, rings, logos, ect. to match AEW stuff.. YEAH!! And have my very own AEW game from scratch to play with. Storylines, GM Mode, PPV's, Career mode all edited and mods for AEW w/ some classic wrestlers and free agents!!
Only problem is, unlike when I was a kid, I don't have the time or I start strong, then rush thru or procrastinate instead of seeing it through. I used to do this with most of my sports games growing up. Updating and making new rosters all the time.. A lot of the fun of some games is creating and taking insane amounts of time getting the team, player, wrestler, ect. juuuust right for action!! IDK just wanted to share that I loved creating using the tools a game gives. I think it's time I waste some time doing it again!!😏😁👍

Will this work on a flash cart like an EverDrive, or do you have to use an emulator? These No Mercy mods look awesome, but it would be really cool if someone could make one that is a simple .ips or x-delta patch instead of having to use high end texture overlays and other such features that require an emulator. It’d be really awesome to play this on real hardware.
you obviously didnt watch this video in full, he clearly states that it is IMPOSSIBLE to play on Everdrive, evidently the Rom has been extended past the limitations of the Cartridge, making it only playable via Project 64, the best N64 Emulator there is.
@@UltimateGamerCC it's not even to do with the rom itself these mods for the most part don't actually alter the rom data but tend to heavily rely on gameshark codes and highresolution textures that are all done by using the emulator and don't directly change the rom. Using as many gameshark codes as these mods tend to do isn't feasible on real hardware anyway and the textures certainly aren't.

I LOVE me some "No Mercy" mods. Eat your heart out "SmackDown" series. I'm waiting for a New Japan pro wrestling and Lucha Libre mods next (if there aren't already made). Keep em coming guys. 👌
Gotta do one of these on Virtual Pro-Wrestling 2 freem Edition. Different type of hack so not as pretty, but it is awesome and it actually WILL play on Everdrive.

The WWF match types and crowd signs too...also in the backdrop of the main menu. It feels weird lol. It's like two universes colliding in some really weird crossover.
Getting the mod to fully run is the Achievement
Not huge into Wrestling myself (although I sure enjoy indie promos) but this is the kind of hack I really enjoy the most.
Almost a total conversion albeit one that won't work on stock hardware :/

According to former THQ producer Sanders Keel, who's just on of the many people who worked on No Mercy, there was no plans for a Backlash game. THQ and AKI weren't seeing eye-to-eye.
Also the Gamecube was on the way, so I doubt it. The only games that came out after this were prolly either EA sports games or Tony Hawk games. Those seem to always close out a system.
Yuke's did hire two of the guys who worked on No Mercy, Shunsuke Katsumata (listed under Asst. Director and 3D Animation on No Mercy and 3D Animation on multiple AKI N64 games) and Takumi Kon, as lead designers on their WWE games for Gamecube Wresltemania X8 & XIX and Day or Reckoning 1 & 2 which branched off into the Japan only Wrestle Kingdom 1 & 2 on the same engine for the PlayStation 2. I found this team to more desirable than the team that worked on the main Smackdown games, but not as good as AKI who were working on Def Jam and Ultimate Muscle games at the time. The depth of Def Jam Fight for New York alone is awe inspiring.
No mercy is still the greatest wrestling game and most played.
No Mercy on the N64 is the ULTIMATE wrestling game. Period.
Kenny Omaga loves this game hears hoping the AEW game ends up somewhere near as good but of course with current game technology.
@Graeme Nicol - But Yukes is also involved. Best bet will be a hybrid Aki/Yukes approach to the gameplay & presentation. Hard to beat Smackdown 2 on PS1 & Here Come the Pain on PS2.
@@TexasHollowEarth I didn't have a N64 so never actually played no mercy best two Wrestling game's I've played are Fire Pro world and HCTP in that order.
If your perspective on wrestling games is limited to WWF/WWE, I guess.
The Aki Corporation N64 grapplers were always better than anything Yuke's Future Media Creations ever developed. SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth and SmackDown! Here Comes The Pain were the best Yuke's wrasslers. The rest were average at best. I'm sure the AEW game will be average as well. This AEW Modded game sounds like fun. I may have to play this.
Agree. I always felt Yuke's were always two steps forward and one step back. AKI got better with every iteration right up until their Def Jam and Ultimate Muscle games.
You have a former key member of AKI working on AEW's game, so I don't know how you got the notion that it will be like the Smackdown or 2K games.
@@dragonmark9092 Yea the two teasers have a lot of No Mercy in them as well. It's clear what Kenny's (VPW2 Fanboy) and the rest of the EVPs, who all love the AKI games directive was. Aubry Edwards and Bryan Williams of AEW Games and Yuke's respectively researched No Mercy and they're going for that feeling, which as of late last year Kenny said it felt like. You can see it all over the trailers.
@@dragonmark9092 It all depends on how much control that "Former Key Member of AKI" has at Yuke's. If he/she has complete control on the game's development, then it'll be close to the N64 grapplers. If not, then expect another usual Yuke's wrassler.
But as history has proven, doesn't matter how big of a wrasslin' gamer you are, the first wrasslin' game for your company will always be a let down.
A FEW EXAMPLES: WWF WrestleMania (NES), WCW Wrestling (NES), ECW Hardcore Revolution, TNA iMPACT! and most recently, Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring.
Don't hold your breath for the AEW game to be great. Keep your expectations low. That way if it sucks, you won't be disappointed. But if it does turn out great, you'll be amazed. It's a Win-Win.

This is looking interesting, especially for something sans custom textures - ring notwithstanding. On the subject, I can't give a name because this was ages ago but I remember seeing someone hacked Mortal Kombat characters in No Mercy and it looked a bit funny. Might be fun still.

Nothing being produced today is worth watching. I started watching in the mid 80's, and stopped in 2003 when Vince's daughter and son in law started destroying the company, and indeed the business.
To their credit, TNA, AEW, and even RoH have all tried valiantly... but they have not been able to capture or keep my attention the way the NWA, WWF, ECW, and WCW did in the 80's and 90's. I'm simply not interested in seeing any of the new guys perform... and the old ones pretty much *shouldn't* anymore.

No Mercy was great but too many people overlook the fact that "WCW vs NWO Revenge" was put out first using that same engine.
There were at least three games that did, if memory serves. Had my favorite control schemes of all time. The same controls did individually different moves of that type per wrestler.

@@jada846 The one big difference though between the WCW and WWF ones was around entrance music (Surprise surprise, WCW cutting corners? Nahhhhhhh lol).. WrestleMania 2000 was the first to include actual themes, not to mention Titantrons too.
@@ajk that's fair. The lack of entrance music didn't deter me from playing the WCW game because the controls were awesome and I had fun exploring the different fighting styles amongst the roster.
