    Imagine if Optifine didn't exist and Mojang would actually need to do their job --- The stars would die, universe would collapse, and out planet would get eaten by a black hole.

      Mojang does work on performance tho.

    Sodium is definitely so much better, optifine is much less careful with compatibility.
    Also, mojang also cares about optimization, but they:
    1. Have less time to work on pure optimization, although they could probably get a few employees to strictly look at optimization stuff.
    2. Mojang is currently also targeting older devices with less features that are very useful for performance, hence they cannot do many of the things sodium does.
    3. Are already doing what they can in many cases, though slowly, for example with the extreme performance improvements for the lighting engine, that even obsoleted starlight!

    Even now with sodium and fabric you need like 10 different mods to get all the features that were just built into optifine.

    • @chaosthunder6853

      But my mod won't break from invasive code of optifine, worth it

    • @Tomatech

      @@kelvin4593 the modularity of mods is a good thing, it means you can selectively add features that you want without adding features you don't want
      Let's say a future minecraft update changes something that breaks one of the fabric mods that recreate optifine functionality. If they had all been combined into one mod, the entire mod would be broken until it got updated, but with them separated, every other mod would continue working normally

    • @The.Sponge
      @The.Sponge 4

      @@kelvin4593 Bro optifine is less "vanilla" than sodium. Optifine changes how some things work but sodium is truly vanilla only making the game perform better. It doesnt matter if it runs on fabric since that can be installed exactly like optifine.

    • @echoless3484

  • @chaosthunder6853

    And now sodium gain popularity really fast due do invasive code of oftifine BREAK many mod. For an example, it even break Ad astra's pipe system & Botania's mana system. Another reason is now a lot of optifine feature that sodium lack can be added by various mods

      Yeah, go play 1.21 with optifine instead of going here and spreading misinformation, @@kelvin4593. Oh wait, I forgot that the version for Minecraft 1.20.6 is still in PREVIEW only. And the "temporary" thing you said is in active development for over 4 years and still keeping up with Minecraft in mere days. Optifine may be good in the past, but not today and definitely won't in the future.

    • @The.Sponge
      @The.Sponge 4

      @@kelvin4593 Opitfine is one mod with a shit ton of features that most users wont need making it less optimised compared to sodium. Optifine isnt a minecraft version... Its a mod like sodium. You could also make sodium launchable from your launcher just use fabric. So basically sodium is better and safer with less bloat.
