Top end speed is 140mph as long as yours isn’t restricted.
Bike is generally very reliable but check hugger bolts don’t come loose as some owners report that happens. For easier handling and better comfort try helibar risers. They bring bars up an inch and a quarter and back an inch. Makes a big difference. I changed the seat on mine to a Wunderlich Aktivcomfort seat which is much more comfortable and supportive. Very good bike capable of very high mileage. Performance betters what the specifications suggest due to huge low down torque . In dynamic mode these bikes hit 60mph from a standstill in 3 seconds flat but what is more impressive is roll on acceleration where they leave most sportsbikes for dead. 3rd gear roll on from 40mph is phenomenal making overtakes a breeze. Handling is sublime, really planted. I get 55 to 60 UK mpg (here we use 8 pints per uk gallon). Really one of the best bikes currently made.
I have the bmw panniers and bought a 48 litre Shad Topbox from Italy so can turn it into a full blown tourer in 5 minutes flat.
Regular oil changes a must. I do the smaller oil and filter changes myself to save on dealer servicing. Takes no time at all. Tyre choice wise there are two stand out tyre models which make handling and grip unrivalled. Metzler Roadtech 01 se tyres are amazing and imho the best for this bike. They make slow speed handling so easy and light as well as having fabulous neutral and stable high speed manners with loads of grip. The others which owners like are Dunlop Roadsmart tyres.
The only other mods I’d like are additional led spotlights as factory non leds on mine are not very good and at some point I could do with fitting a relocation kit for the satnav cradle which is fitted in the wrong place. It needs to be higher.
    Happy riding, stay safe👍

Apologies I missed your excellent comment for some reason. Thank you kindly for watching and providing some solid feedback and insights. I couldn’t agree more it is an amazing platform. I’m very stubborn in that I like the looks of the stock sportier riding position. Seems many people do enjoy the risers. However in this case I’m more on form over function. I can ride for a couple hours straight before my old back needs a rest. Yesterday I test rode the Moto Guzzi V100 S Mandello which was very comfortable with tubular more upright bars. It also sounded amazing compared to the RS. I’m in the process of making a video on my experience with that bike. It surprised me in certain areas. But I still love my RS!

I've been enjoying your videos since I purchased my 2020 R1250RS new (I couldn't find a 2021 in the entire country) last year. Like you said about the amount of time to get one, I put down a deposit in May 2021 and took delivery in September 2021. I'm in CA and the bike was trucked from a dealer in Massachusetts! I migrated from a 2012 K1600GTL so I really notice and appreciate the increased ease of handling this lighter and more agile bike particularly at slow speeds and stops. Looking forward to more videos from Austin.

Hi Phil, thanks for checking out the latest video. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying them and thank you kindly for the kudos. Well congratulations on your new 2020 bike and welcome to the small but growing family of RS owners. These bikes are very difficult to find that's for sure. Enjoy and do keep in touch. I'm always interested in hearing other owner's opinions and what add-ons / gear they buy. @@Texas2Tires, I'm in Modesto, a city splendidly located for motorcycling as my RS can attest. In its short life, it has been on day rides to Carmel (122 miles) and down Hwy 1 to Big Sur, Hwy 49's Little Dragon (56 miles), and to Yosemite National Park (84 miles) for lunch at The Ahwahnee. So many roads, so little time.

Wow sounds amazing. Texas Hill Country is also great fun. However, that is pretty much it within a couple hours ride from me. I'm running out of places to ride that I haven't already done multiple times. At this point, my life / work doesn't allow for me to head out on day long or multi-day trips. With that said, I'm still loving getting out and about.

It's taken me about a year and half to get one. With luck it'll be at the dealers next week. It's the 2022 Lite white sport so the Akro muffler and few other bits are standard. I have ordered the luggage kit but it's about 6mths away, again if I'm lucky as Australia seems to be at the bottom end of the food chain.

Hello, I enjoyed your review! I did a very spontaneous trade of an R9T and older RT yesterday on a new RS! I went to buy oil and happened to sit on the RS in the showroom. If ever a bike felt like it was built for me, this one is it! Felt more substantial than the R9T, yet lighter than the RT, so I thought it the perfect single bike compromise. It comes home in two sleeps :)

Thank you for watching the video and commenting. First off, a big congratulations to you on buying a new RS. It is a wonderful bike and fits the sport and touring role nicely. I have mine setup more as a sport bike for rides within 2 hours of my house. My life doesn't allow for me to go on long tours, so no panniers on my bike. Although it is lighter than the RT it is still about 100 pounds heavier than most sport bikes at around 534 pounds (242 kg). The torque on the RS is incredible at any gear / rev level. I'm sure you'll enjoy that! Enjoy your new bike!

@@Texas2Tires Happily exhausted tonight! Bike delivered this morning, and you nailed it.....I love the bike!! Initially the seating position and narrow bars felt quite different to me and I was petrified of dropping it, thinking about the weight. 100 km (60 miles) later it feels like I've never ridden anything else. Do you have a sportsbike background? This feels so sporty to me and I was barely out of 2nd, 3rd all day (chose traffic routes for a gentle break in).

Get shot of those factory fit tyres!!! Terrible!!! Mine had these Metzlers on from new, they were dreadful, did not grip very well and you could feel every single little stone, cats eye etc under them which I went over. The smallest of gravel would bang my teeth together. The day I wore them out was a good day. I fitted Michelin Road 5's, front and rear, these transformed the whole bike and riding experience for the better. Handling, lean angle, comfort, everything is better!!!!
You might wonder then why I got this bike, I needed a sporty bike having had Speed Triples for the last 20+ years, but I tried a Tiger, which was so boring, did everything amazing, but boring, BUT, the shaft drive was a must. So the R1250RS it was....
Great video too, cheers for sharing!!! Keep safe!!!!

I'm a motor deputy, obviously on a 1250RT not a RS. But, I can say the Michelin's are pretty good, but I personally had them switch my bike to the Dunlops this last week. The Dunlops will last a bit longer. I just feel a bit more confidence at slow speeds on the Dunlops. Granted, I do things most normal riders do not, as I do full lock slow speed turns *all* the time.
Watching this video because I want a 1250RS for personal use lol.

@@Texas2Tires thanks appreciate it. I haven't ridden one yet but I was checking it out the other day when I brought my duty bike in for service at the dealer. Then proceeded to look at a bunch of videos. Before that I was researching the Ninja 1000SX and the new GSX S1000GT.
I think I'd feel a bit confident on the RS as you said, same engine and everything as my RT. Just a bit different position.
Yeah but if ya don't keep doing it you'll lose it! We try to have a training day every month but doesn't always happen lol. Motor school (at least mine in SoCal) was a no brake school, so all patterns were clutch and throttle only. So you had to regulate your speed just right.
I try to make things fun. When I work speed, I face opposite of traffic on the sidewalk, which forces me to do full lock right turns to stay in one lane when I go to pull someone over. When I leave work, I do full lock left turns while the gate is opening etc. Makes it fun lol.
It's good that you're practicing slow speed stuff, and yes you will drop the bike if you're pushing yourself like you're supposed to!

Great video! I just happened to stumble on to it. I am looking at this bike as an option so I have been researching it and seeing what owners think of this bike. I have read several people who have test rode this bike or others comment about the weight of the bike being an issue for them or a reason for not purchasing it. Stating that they are concerned that their is insufficient horse power given the weight of the bike. What are your thoughts about that? Also, have you done long rides yet or just around town? Given the weight of the bike if you were doing around town or city riding would it be difficult maneuvering the bike for you? Also for a new rider this is a lot of bike so what led you to getting so much bike and such a high end bike like this. My first bike was a Viargo 250. The idea was get something like and then move up. For the record my next bike was a BMW R 1110 RS which was an older version of what you got now and it was one of the best bikes I ever had. Do you know if there is a difference between your 2020 model and a 2023 model. Also, why this bike and not other similar bikes like KTM or Triumph Adventure bikes etc? Do you still have this bike and if so how many miles on it and was this the triple black model? It looks like you got it loaded? I know this is a lot of questions. Thanks

    • @Texas2Tires
      @Texas2Tires  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for watching the video and commenting. I still have the bike and love it. It is a 2020 Black Storm Metallic and I bought it brand new with 1 mile on the odometer. It now has over 18,000 miles on the odometer. I think the RS shines due to its abundance of torque not its HP although it has a good amount of that too. I ride around town, highways etc. My longest ride so far was four hours straight in the saddle. I find the RS is very maneuverable. I've swerved out of danger a couple times with ease. Actually my first motorcycle was a 1979 Yamaha XS400, which I rode for a couple years back in 1991 or 1992. I then took many years off from motorcycling. However, I did own a scooter for a few years while living overseas where owning a decent motorcycle wasn't practical. I hope you explore more of my videos as I have over 200 about rides, meet ups, interviews, new products etc... Thanks again for tuning in. I hope I answered all your questions.

The bike’s weight is a non issue. It doesn’t feel that heavy and is easy to roll off the stand as weight is carried very low. Slow speed manoeuvring is easy and well balanced. Performance wise, ignore paper figures. This is a very quick bike due to over 100 lbs ft of torque and coupled with 134bhp trust me, that’s plenty. Roll on acceleration is phenomenally quick. Top speed is irrelevant but for a road bike it has plenty enough at around 142mph.
I have had both a KTM and Triumph bikes, the last being a 1200 Explorer. It was cumbersome, top heavy and unreliable. Ktms are simply not worth the risk. Their electronics are unreliable, it’s when not if they break down plus they’re uncomfortable on anything over an hours blast. Cost of ownership is high. They cook your legs and groin in hot weather too, both the triumph and KTM.
Having owned all 3 makes, for me the BMW is streaks ahead fir riding pleasure, reliability, build quality, comfort and enjoyment. For a pure tourer you are better off with a 1250 RT which is the best tourer money can buy and surprisingly quick and has brilliant handling. As an all rounder the RS is better, even than the GS. Lighter than GS or RT, quicker and better handling. It’s a real gem of a bike. Buy with confidence. You won’t regret it.
