BJ is spot on when he says the track talks about time running out and death, because that's what the follow on track is about. The stages of facing death ( ie the great gig in the sky); either your own or a loved one's. It's an AMAZING track too!!!

I remember the first time I heard The Dark Side Of The Moon (I was about 10 years old). My parents had quite a collection of music albums, so I was listening to quite modern music for the time - but this was otherworldly! How can anyone put the sound of a clock, money jingling, a helicopter from left to right, someone laughing in a song? I was absolutely thrilled! And yet I didn't understand it at all (I was born in Czechoslovakia and of course I didn't speak English - which unfortunately I still don't). When I later found out what lyrics these pieces of music contained, I was amazed at how deep and true Pink Floyd's lyrics were. They are still timeless today. Have a great 2022 everyone!

Other than the track Money, this album was created at a time entire albums were listened to at once. It is really the only way to appreciate Dark Side of the Moon, along with virtually all Pink Floyd albums, indeed, most of the albums of the era. From the glory days of AOR, or album oriented rock, FM radio dj’s would almost exclusively avoid single tracks, instead doing entire LP album sIdes or both sides. Often including conversations with artists, producers, and other conversational asides. Nothing like this will ever be heard again. Glad you played this, but be aware that individual cuts do not capture the spirit or intent of this album.

Pink Floyd is Legendary, they are in a category all their own! Their "Dark Side Of The Moon" album, (the album this song is on), sold over 45 million copies worldwide, the most by any Rock Band.
The album spent 937 weeks on Billboards Top 100 Albums of all Time List, that's over 18 years! Again, the only Rock Band to achieve such an accomplishment, the album in second place on the list is around 400 weeks.

They have a VERY unique sound. I've been looking for another band like them for 30 years. The song you tuned in here is one that will grow on you in a huge way as you two grow older. If this is truly your first time hearing this, give it ten years. The impact it can have on your life is unparalleled in my humble opinion.

Good analysis. You dialed into it. What always got me was when he's warming his bones besides the fire, meanwhile, across the field, someone else's time has run out. The bell is tolling, and the priest is reciting the "magic spells" for the person.

the thing I love most about this song is that its the whole scope of a life, Throughout the song hidden in the drums is a heartbeat. That's the life. it only stops when they talk about the faithful gathering to hear the "softly spoken magic spell" - that's the funeral.

My first memory of music was this song when I was 5. It was 1973 and my family were moving back to Texas from Michigan. At some point we made a road stop. It was just my mom and I in the truck and this song came on. I was immediately struck by it. The intro made me think of an old western movie. But when David Gilmour's guitar solo came on, I literally saw bright glowing green. For that moment I was in a trance. When I got older and understood the lyrics it was like getting slammed all over again. Dark Side Of The Moon isn't just and album. It's a masterpiece that no one in our lifetime will ever duplicate. It was a rare moment of perfection.

You guys should give their song "Childhood's End" a go!! It's not requested as much but just as great in it's own way. Editing to say that 222 is represented in the video twice. I'm the weirdo who looks at signs as a spiritual connection. It really was a fitting day for the song.

THAT INTRO GETS ME EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! HUNDREDS OF TIMES BY NOW... The subtlety of Nick's drum work, Richard deftly tickling the ivories and throw in David's string work and you have a Master Class in intro to Rock & Roll 101...

What makes this song stand out for me is the all black female choir, the 2nd you hear one you know it. They have a very specific sound that no other choir are able to duplicate. For me it adds just that right touch and really makes the song that much more moving, powerful and full of emotion. The vocal wailing is fenominal! I love it.

This is one my favorite floyd dongs. I was always told that you could not fully understand this song until you got older. I first hesrd this song a year or two after it was released. I heard many times through the years. I gave my life to the Lord in 1988 and stopped lidstening to rock music and only listened to christian rock and gospel. Only when I heard this song in the song again in the 90s in my mid thirties did realize how true and powerful this song was. LOL.

Really Good Reaction Guys.I am living proof of "Time" as I went to see this debuted in 1973 in Earls Court, West London in 1973, with 18,000 others, and the last FORTY-NINE years have disappeared since I was 18. I am 67 now and still out 5 times a week HOWEVER my best mate, who I went with died suddenly aged just 60 after just fulfilling his dream of starting his own Business at 59 years old. The other Guy I went with has lived in Mountain areas for the last 45 years. The organist is dead: Richard Wright and the world-famous Arena is now.............. A HOUSING COMPLEX as of 2020 demonstrating that we are all just in one place at one time and people and situations change VERY QUICKLY....
