Saw this tour live in Indy in the mid 90s. Was freaking awe-inspiring. The whole audience was transfixed and mesmerized by the solo at the end and the morphing disco ball. I caught myself with my jaw hanging open and looked around. LOL, everyone else was standing around slack-jawed too! Was the same back when I saw them for the first time in the mid 80s. Only that time it was more of a laser light display that had everyone once again slack-jawed. When they went into the chorus, "A distant ship smoke on the horizon, your are only coming through in waves..." they played the lasers above the audience in a pattern that looked like you were viewing waves on the ocean from underneath. He was calling it, "Have You Got It Yet?," and the first couple times they ran through it, it seemed simple enough. Soon the band realized that the song wasn't simple at all - Barrett would change the melody and the arrangement constantly with each new practice run - slightly at first, but more and more each time they played it. Barrett would play it again for them, with the capricious structure changes, and each time he would ask, "Have you got it yet?" Of course, the band never did quite get it, as they were chasing the proverbial carrot on the string. Eventually they realized that they had become victims of Barrett's eccentric sense of humor. This Pulse concert version of this song: BEST GUITAR 🎸 SOLO EVER!!! Never get tired of it. Never stop getting chills and close to tears every single time. Glad you enjoyed it. I was there at the last showing in the u.s., in New Jersey. By myself, no money. Just a bus ticket back to Port Authority, a hit of acid, and a pretzel. One of the most memorable nights in my life
He is no way understated my friend.. He is fully recognise as one of the all time greats... With Mr page, Eric Clapton. Jimi of course... The ones who are truly understated are Darrell dime bag, or James hetfield. And most definitely Kirk Hammett is absolutely overlooked.. Also one guy from my neck of the woods who is a Brilliant guitarist and and criminally over looked and understated is John squire of the stone roses... Tell me I'm wrong about squire... He is as good as anyone who pick a guitar up... Still Dave....he's not bad huh .😎
@@antonytheolddog8626 …understated in the sense he avoided the theatricality of guys like Page, making his sound the focus, not windmilling arms, teeth pick, or other showboating. His understatement not diminishing the greatness. Get it now?
Actually Prince is the most understated Guitar genius of our generation. David Gilmour is by all account a brilliant player, but for me the understated champion goes to Prince just my humble opinion. :) stay safe and Healthy.
@@neverlandxx73 ..Prince was indeed talented, but my use of “understated “ seems to confuse. Prince played exceptionally, but flamboyantly; my use of understated refers to delivering great guitar solos with quiet dignity. That’s Gilmour, not Page, Hendrix, or Prince…all wonderful , by the way…as is Bonamassa, etc, but David does it calmly.
Cool reaction, can't believe someone in the comments suggested the solo was overrated . The best solos are not all about shredding ,speed etc , this solo is filled with emotion , every note is chosen perfectly. Hope you react to more of the pulse concert , it's one of the best live concerts ever recorded in my opinion.
That person needs to look up what Dave Mustaine has to say about Gilmour - ""I'm of the belief that a player like David Gilmour could do more with one note than some of today's shredders can do with a dozen".
They sort of have a point (probably not the one intended) as this particular solo is edited together from 2 performances because David made a cock-up .
If you've seen the movie this solo musically describes the character's descent into madness as to the guitar gradually ascends higher and higher.Gilmour is so talented he can put emotion into guitar notes, most just play guitar,he becomes the guitar.
Their music is a journey. I have been a fan since their beginning and have followed them through my life. Headphones, lean back, eyes closed, and away we go.
I believe in a rock magazine a few years back they did a poll and the 2 solos in Comfortably Numb took No.1 and No.2. And no, I'm not actually making that up! Without question this is No.1 for me.
I've probably now watched about 20 reaction videos of this song and the chills and goosebumps start every time at the start of the solo. This song will never get old, ever.
“Comfortably Numb” - “Sorrow” - “On The Turning Away” - "Time" - "Money" - “Another Brick In The Wall” - “Keep Talking” - “High Hopes” - “Great Gig In The Sky” - “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” - “Learning To Fly” - “Coming Back To Life” - "Take It Back" - “Dogs Of War” - “What Do You Want From Me” - “Run Like Hell” - “HEY YOU” - Pink Floyd- David Gilmour Guitar Solos I have seen performed Live in 4 concerts. “The Master Of The Stratocaster”
He can still play like that; I was fortunate enough to see David Gilmour's solo tour in 2016. He performed this song and many other Pink Floyd classics, along with his solo work. If you ever want to see a more recent performance of his, I suggest 'David Gilmour, Live in Pompeii, Comfortably Numb, 2016' or from the same show, 'In Any Tongue.' As for the Pulse 1994 concert, I suggest checking out 'Sorrow' next; it's got another amazing guitar solo.
I believe the song is based on two incidences in Roger Waters life, firstly when he was ill as a child and secondly when he was ill before a show and had to have a shot to enable him to perfom
You all did a great reaction to this. I was fortunate to see Pink Floyd live on this Pulse tour in 1994 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. There were 47,000 fans at the show, and I had 18th row seats on the floor. In the first half of the show they played their album Dark Side of the Moon from start to finish, and in the second half they played many songs from their recently released album The Division Bell and other popular songs. "Comfortably Numb" was their last song of the second half, and then their encore was "Run Like Hell". You should definitely see the light show for that from this Pulse tour. It was an experience of a lifetime. Also saw them in 1987 on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in Austin. Again, great reaction and cool to see your appreciation for this!!!
Before I even watch this... everybody in the live was pimping this when you did Comfortably Numb studio version. This is the greatest guitar solo of all time and this particular live version is the best I've ever heard David Gilmour play. He's on another level when it comes to Soul. 🔥 Fire doesn't even begin to explain it. Here we go I'm going to watch
@@itsbrodie i see you fam. I know the Pompeii solo has that black on black strat that he used after he sold the red one and donated his proceeds to global warming. Equally as excellent. A lot of guys lose their dexterity as they age. Not david gilmour. He just gets better. But you are one hundred percent right that version live in Pompeii is spectacular. I've said it a thousand times, picking the best guitar player ever is all subjective, but I will say without question he is the most humbling guitar player I've ever heard. No guitar player ever and say that David Gilmour hasn't at one time or another put them in their place

One of the greatest solos ever played. David Gilmour is a genius on the guitar. Where are you ever going to hear such a heartfelt, melodic solo as that. I don't think you will find one any better. Different maybe, but not better !!
I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd live twice!! The best concerts I’ve ever been to, and every time I see this video of Comfortably Numb, I get goose bumps!
I have watched this on DVD and YT now a hundred times and it never fails to stir my emotions. When you watch the whole Pulse concert the feeling is magnified! They play the songs from Dark Side of the Moon on the DVD and this song is the first encore. Thanks for a great reaction!
It was great Live! "Lyrics were written by Roger Waters. While many people thought the song was about drugs, Waters insists it is not. The lyrics are about what he felt when he was sick with a fever in his childhood. As an adult, he got that feeling again sometimes, entering delirium state, where he felt disconnected from reality."
If you really get into their music, Pink Floyd brings you to another level. Not just music, it’s a great experience and discovery ✌🏻❤️ BTW, thanks a lot for not interrupting the solos 🙏👍
Wow, Santana, hendrix, Clapton, how lucky we all are to hear these wonders of the world, Pink floyed, the Who, U2 and more. Just found your channel and its so good to see younger generations being reminded of this type of music/awesome talent.
I have the same thing as BJ. Whenever I listen to it, I say to myself, "I don't want the end yet, don't end it!" It's a phenomenal guitar solo. I've probably seen all the versions of this song from different concerts (by the way, the performance from Live At Pompeii 2016 is also great), but this is an absolute gem! This whole concert is amazing. Whatever you play from it, you will never make a mistake. It is an experience for ears, eyes and soul ...
The song is about Roger Waters, who was ill and needed some pain medication so he could go onstage to perform. So many great classic bands/artists from back in the day; Pink Floyd is definitely at the top of the list (along with the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and others). Don't get me started on the best guitarists, lol. David Gilmour (lead guitarist and vocalist) is not just an amazing musician but an amazing human being. He auctioned off all his guitars; got $21.5 million, and gave it all to charity. You guys need to see them very young in "Pink Floyd live at Pompeii, 1971-72" , another amazing performance.
In addition to Waters' performance ills, Gilmore added the childhood experience of having a bad case of a flu or some kind of viral infection and the delirium that he experienced during that time, but was now fleeting in his memory.
My understanding is that it was Gilmore, not Rogers, who needed the pain meds. As A G correctly states, he compares it to being sick as a child. He is not celebrating drug use in the song. I actually remember the first time I heard only two albums: Dark Side of the Moon and Beatles White. I never get sick of seeing and hearing Pink Floyd. I'm near-obsessed!
@@BillBarnesLexSouthCarolina my understanding was that it was Roger's experience as a child and before a concert in Germany when he became ill and was given a shot by a doctor

Glad you enjoyed it. I was there at the last showing in the u.s., in New Jersey. By myself, no money. Just a bus ticket back to Port Authority, a hit of acid, and a pretzel. One of the most memorable nights in my life
David Gilmour is the understated guitar genius of the past fifty years.
Still Dave....he's not bad huh
.😎
@@antonytheolddog8626 …understated in the sense he avoided the theatricality of guys like Page, making his sound the focus, not windmilling arms, teeth pick, or other showboating. His understatement not diminishing the greatness. Get it now?
@@edwardrutledge2765 oh, Well now you put it like that .
No, I have no idea..🤔
Yeah...I get it now chief..
Now you explained it correctly.🤨
Emotion beats virtuosity.
@@richardgoddard37 No cock up. I was there. But nearly 2 minutes edited out of the DVD.
This pulse concert from Pink Floyd. Is my favorite of all time.. Every song is absolute perfection..I’m soo glad y’all visited this..
This version is so incredible it really is, love what he does when the discoball opens up
Their music is a journey. I have been a fan since their beginning and have followed them through my life. Headphones, lean back, eyes closed, and away we go.
I saw this show in Tacoma, WA in the early 90’s. The LAZERS were stellar. The sound live was so good. Great reaction!
arguably one of the best solo's in rock music
No argument here that's for sure. David Gilmour is a bad man on that guitar 🎸
there's no argument . anything dave gilmore does is incredible
There is no argument it is
I believe in a rock magazine a few years back they did a poll and the 2 solos in Comfortably Numb took No.1 and No.2. And no, I'm not actually making that up! Without question this is No.1 for me.
Best concert EVER! 1994 Oakland, California. Amazing!
July '94, RFK stadium! Amazing²! Cheers....
Ive seen this so many times and it gives me chills and tears every single time!! David Gilmour is beyond amazing!!🎶🎸🎶🎸🎵
One of the most epic guitar solo`s ever!
This is my favorite song of all time and my favorite moment in any live show I've seen. I saw the Pulse tour in L.A.
Man, this version gives me goosebumps every time…just watching the video lol. If I could go back and see any concert, I think this would be it.
In any Tongue is an amazing song.
I believe the song is based on two incidences in Roger Waters life, firstly when he was ill as a child and secondly when he was ill before a show and had to have a shot to enable him to perfom
David fkn Gilmour, y'all!! That man has been giving me goosebumps for over 40 years!
One of the greatest live guitar solos in rock history. Spine tingling.
Live "On the turning away" should be next!
I have seen quite a few reactions to this and it is not at all unusual to see people have a strong emotional reaction to the wondrous guitar solo.
I saw them on this tour. Unbelievable show ! Great reaction. Glad that you enjoyed it. ✌️
David Gilmour's guitar speaks to the soul! So much emotion and passion.
This reaction video proves how much you two genuinely love music. You have a new subscriber.
I took my wife to Pulse when we were in college. Her 1st concert!
The live Floyd shows I went to were at the top of my concert experiences. Thanks for the reminder. I enjoy your channel. Have a nice evening.
This guitar solo has been voted the best of all time by a musicians poll...as a guitar player myself I have to agree
David Gilmour's solo pulls my heart out through my chest! Tears! The most emotional solo of all time! Nothing but LOVE for the Pink Floyd.
If you just close your eyes and listen to the music. Your there
This is what you call a ROCK CONCERT, there's nothing like it live, saw them many times back in my younger years thanks for the memories 🤟🥰
I can never get enough of a David Gilmore solo and I could listen to this for eternity ❤️ Simply a legend.
I agree, amazing performance- however if you haven't already I'd suggest listening to the live in pompei version. imo it's much better
As a guitar player of some 40 years who's played a LOT of gigs with a lot of great musicians, as well as having listened to many a great player over the years, true to the T that this is just an amazing performance all around.
Sorrow live pulse concert. Blows your mind. IMO even a more rock solo
Facts! My favorite David Gilmour guitar solo after this one.
@@TranceAddict1989 One of These Days is pretty wild too
Yessss! 💥
Glad y'all reacted to this performance. More Pulse, please....Sorrow.
Ok so I literally just got done watching this, refreshed youtube and here you guys are reacting to it. Guess I'm watching again probably for the 56th time lol
Just watch Pulse, 4th row seats in 94. The solo is edited, its actually another 4 minutes to it.
David Gilmour's guitar playing is otherworldly. It's magical, what else can you say? Love seeing you enjoying this so much!
One of the greatest solos ever played. David Gilmour is a genius on the guitar. Where are you ever going to hear such a heartfelt, melodic solo as that. I don't think you will find one any better. Different maybe, but not better !!
This classic has got to be one of their best loved songs.
It's about time! lol...
You need react to more of this concert simply amazing !!!!
Much Love from 🇨🇦
This performance was 27 years ago this month. Also their performance Live at Pompeii was 50 years ago this week.
I saw this tour at Arrowhead. It was life changing. All I could do was just stand there and just soak it in. I never wanted it to end.
I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd live twice!! The best concerts I’ve ever been to, and every time I see this video of Comfortably Numb, I get goose bumps!
BRAVO!!! So glad you did the pulse concert....Love you two!
Not just music, it’s a great experience and discovery ✌🏻❤️
BTW, thanks a lot for not interrupting the solos 🙏👍
There's more passion in that guitar solo than is legally allowable!
Totally puts me in a trance. Up to my death, in my will this is to be played for the visitors to just chill and trance out. NO TEARS
One of the best guitar solos of all time I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd also for like 48 years
First time I heard this was in a sneak preview in the middle of the night in 1979. One of my favorite albums of all time. David Gilmour evokes emotional reaction with his guitar solos. I'm happy to see you enjoy it so much.
they were the very best band EVER please listen and respeact all there music young folks I have since I was 14 and Im not young any more keep up the good raste and workkk peace and GODs Speed Chad
The Greatest Guitarist To Ever Play a Guitar. He can make his Guitar sing to us. Give the song High Hopes a listen from the same concert.
Asia and BJ, Y'all should do the whole Pink Floyd Pulse concert. If you don't and you die before you do... I'm pretty sure Saint Peter will press the button that opens the trap door at the entrance to the Pearly Gates where you slide down a chute and end up in Beelzebub's office.
Do Shine on you Crazy Diamond. The studio version. It will literally transform you to another dimension.
Such an incredible performance and SOLO, it really does bring a tear to my eye every time I watch. How blessed are we to have this, documented for all time?
Yeah, I think this song, its sounds - hold you, gently open the walls you built to protect yourself, and makes you feel safe and loved, without those walls.
I first saw them in 1972 and been addicted to their music ever since. The 1994 concert was just wonderful and will always be in my memory as the years march on. Bless you all.
One of the saving graces bestowed upon this performance, apart from the other-worldly musical experience as a whole, was no mobile phones.....
No sea of arms stretched holding little white squares blocking and ruining the landscape.....
You'll never see the likes of this again.
Ever.
I saw Pink Floyd live in Stuttgart Germany in 1989, best concert I've ever been to, they were PERFECT and the light show was mesmerizing
So much can or, will be said yes
All I can honestly say, “I grew up with this kinda of music”!
If nothing else, I was fortunate to grow up with “Legendary Musicians”
Holy Moly!!!
One of the greatest bands in recent rock history
One of the most “Influential Bands in Rock History”
✌️🎶
I'm not even the biggest Pink Floyd fan, but if I would have a time machine, a trip to this concert would be pretty high on my list to visit
Your brain has been fired from the cannon of geniuses. Pink Floyd are undoubtedly one of the greatest bands.
Their music is layered with sounds that capture your brain waves and reprogram your ears and make you appreciate the sound they create.
I describe Pink Floyd as psychedelic blues.
Peace,Love and Unity.
Love the reaction. Makes me proud to be British. I agree with your sense of feeling after hearing this masterpiece live. You don't so much listen to Pink Floyd... You feel Pink Floyd on an emotional level. Love you both, keep up the great work
When all the Great Musicians are gone. We are lucky that we have DVD's, Cd's, Tapes and Records to remind us how many great Artists and Songs there were. From the Delta Blues to Heavy Metal. No one is wrong in their choice of Music.
I saw them at Oakland coliseum in 94’ and I was 18. Such a good memory.
That solo gives me chills every time I hear it.
Also from the Pulse Concert: SORROW and RUN LIKE HELL are just 2 more great performances from that concert.
Was lucky enough to see this Tour. Best experience EVER.
All of the Pink Floyd songs from the Pulse Concert are excellent. Two of my other Pulse favorites are SORROW and RUN LIKE HELL.
Love the way Gilmore makes his guitar cry tears of music.
I'm so glad you were able to experience that, on believably cool!
Saw them in concert in Germany in 1988. Still one the best concert I’ve seen to date
Their gigs takes your soul, shakes it up like a snow globe, the you wait for days for it to settle into its new position.
Nice to see a couple of young people "get IT"(the spirit of music)
Thank you for taking the Pink Floyd torch for future generations.
I've heard them all and in my opinion this is the greatest live rock guitar solo ever.
