EDIT: Important update. On 4/5/19 the output and CD (range) testing I did were flawed. The battery in my light meter was very low and I did not catch it until now. This caused the readings I took to be significantly off. After changing the battery in the meter, double checking calibration and retesting the lights I am posting the updated lumen outputs below. I do not have updated CD testing at this time, however because of the meter issue it is likely that those readings were high also. I am unable to change the title or original description in my Ebay Auction listiing for the lights, but I added this information to the “edit” section. I greatly apologize for the mistake and any inconvenience this has caused.

The thermal transfer for the xhp50.2 is also their best, it can run at max at a lower temperature and with a high temperature tolerance than any other CREE or according to them.
That dedomed 50.2 looks amazing. The color is beautiful.

This is dope. I want to make some of these to use in the bottom of my car with a liquid cooling when I hit the high mode for the led. Its a good project that I have in mind. And would like to make a light bar liquid cooled by using the ms18 leds and make that 100,000 lumens but would end up being close to 70,000 even if it's puting out on each of the 18 leds 5500 lumens. And a combination of the RT70 reflector on top of the car I'll end up using. That's going to be plenty of light. What a monster build I have going on .
Hello Matt. Very Good video, i build a same light as you. XHP 50.2 led with dome of and a bough the mosfet driver from you😊. i have the standard switch, I got 14 A on the tailcap with Samsung imr 30Q. Fantastic throw.
I already try to use a C8+ as a high beam in my bike, but this, with a striped lens for getting a horizontally wide beam would be awesome. Especially with some adapter to use it with an external battery pack. Or just a barrel plug which can be used when no battery installed
I would go with the Convoy C8 21700 still has a small factor body, and you get to use those 21700 high output batteries

50.2 DD to me is the best. Although i always purchase the higher K value. I like the natural color of the DD. Your able to see things clearer at a long distance. Thats a heck of a lot of light from that single 18650. Love it.

I have one like this made with a Convoy C8 (XHP 50.2) domed 3.0V custom Mos and Skylumens tail switch double copper springs and it turns a dark alley (50 to 70 yards) into daylight on high but it does run hot on high power after 2 minutes it gets super hot .....

Hi I'm new to the torch game, and I've been looking at Cree's high efficiency xte 3v 1.5a max to make a mini torch. Just looking for some advice, as I'm building it from scratch. 😊
I plan on making the ali-bronze body myself so size can be adjusted to fit the components. 😅
I believe I will need:
•The led
•Reflector and cover
•cob/thermal pad
•driver of some kind(guess 3v regulator)
•switch
•the body
•charge/discharge protected battery
•usb c port, charge/overcharge protection, pass through board (I want internal charging😉, plus the option to run off external phone battery bank 😁).
At the end of it my goal is to have a 100-200lm mini torch, that is rechargeable. That can also run for extended periods off external power 😊.
I'm prepared to do it all from scratch😁, I just feel it would be wise to reach out to the community for any advice they would have to give me. 😁 Thanks in advance, and hope you have a brilliant day. ✌️

Can you sell a kit that includes the led soldered on the sink pad, a less beefy tail switch and the the driver, that would be the best upgrade kit for a old c8

When comparing the flashlights in the backyard, did you use a different reflector on the XHP50.2? It seems to be a little wider spill than the stock C8+.

Have you used a washer for dedoming in this case also? If yes, how think it is? I would like to dedome my S11 XHP50.2 as well, as I don't like it's beam.
So, how did you do the de-dome? That color quality (CRI 95+) is pretty rare - it deserves lots more attention.
For the XHP50.2 de-dome you just slice it off with a razor blade.
Flashlight mod noob here. I got a couple of of Convoy S2+ hosts and want to make an 18350 max thrower for that size light. I know a bigger reflector can help but want to do the experiment with the s2+. Can you recommend an emitter, driver and battery combo for this? Also the optic needed…TIR? I was thinking an XPG3 or XPG4 emitter as it’s seems to be in lots of throwers. I have an old Jacob A60 , 10 years old, that throws wickedly already and may want to mod that up to even more too. It has a tiny emitter I think XPG… Does a smaller area die throw farther?
Power is all well and giggle-worthy to look at, Matt, but how does the 50.2 perform at lower currents? Is its efficiency any good?
Very well In my opinion. There are some crees that will out perform it at low power, but all of Crees LEDs do a reasonable job.
I currently use a xml2 u2 with a nanjc 105c with a 18650. Would this be better?

unfortunately they dont give more color options like 3000-5000k well i have a sofirn sp33 v3 which has 5000/5300k emitter on it but still i cant find a warm color 50.2 3v anywhere not even 5000k! only cold white 6500k😫 is there any 3v substitute which has more color tints available and also gives same lumen output?
Need some advice, I have the J5 tactical V2 and the Gear Light M10 they are very similar both take 1x 18650 battery . I am looking to change the emitters, what Cree emitters do you think would be brighter ?. The X lamp CX series seem to be brighter than the XP series!. I think the emitters in mine are just knockoffs of the XP series. Let me know ?.
For the zoomie type lights since they have an aspherical lens I would use Cree XPL HI , it has no dome on it so it will have the best range.

I put in sst 20 in a Sofirn C8F-21700. very good throw. if you put in a Cree XHP50.2 you must drill upp the reflector hole.

If you want a tighter beam is a great thing to do. Just don't cut so close that you damage the bond wires.
I want to get into light modding, I think it's time. Should I go with my first attempt with xhp50 or go with your first tutorial on how to mod? I'd love to build up to this model.
Convoy S2/S2+ seam the simplest to mod with fet driver and choice of led
Bought mine 50.2 3v at kaidomain (6000k). Does yours also have the Cree tint shift rainbow vomit causing brain damage problem?
All of the .2 LEDs have that some what. The reflector you use can help. C8 is better than some I have seen. Oddly the orange peel reflector in an S2+ is like one of the worst.

How is your C8+ stock getting 998 lumens? I have the same light in Cool White from Simon and mine measures 800 at 30 sec. I have the Texas Ace Lumen Tube calibrated with manukka lights. You calibrated yours using the same lights so it's strange you get 198 lumens more.
You note that the stock driver is 3A? Simon's biscotti driver is 2.8A max. The 3A would explain the increase in lumens but where did you get it?
Jacob, I made a mistake. The battery in my light meter was almost dead and it skewed the test. I have posted the correct values for all the lights in the comment pinned to the top. Sorry about that.

In a convoy C8 3v xhp50.2 6250k with Samsung 20s I'm getting about 17.5 amps at the tail wonder what the output is and with a 6v dedoomed xhp50.2 5000k and keeppower 18350 I'm getting a lil over 11 amps

Hey I am looking for a shock proof water proof helmet mounting long range very bright led for snowmobiling that I can drive with. You have done custom stuff and there is literally nothing on the market. There is half as stuff that's not worth it since its nkt bright or meant to be in warm dry conditions and not even led. I would like to find a way to drive with a large enough battery mounted with a pull away quick disconnect line to the light that i can just run under my jacket out into the back of my snowmobile seat or if a big enough light enough battery to my backpack. I need 8 hours at least full brightness. Hell if I can run a charger on the battery while using the battery as well for the led it would be even better although a snowmobiles power output may be a trickle charger in comparison to the withdrawal of the light. It would make a video in sure. Maybe a product line.
