There's Swedish speakers elsewhere in Finland too, especially in the western and southern coasts. Åland is just majority Swedish speaking.

Åland get television from both countries, but from what I remember spending time there they mostly watch Swedish channels.

Many things in this is totally wrong, for example Lindberg, we also have Lindfors, Lindkvist, Lindstam and the just shange the lind to another tree like Ekberg, Ekkvist and so on, we also have a lot of names with Sjö(lake) Sjöberg, Sjökvist and so on, Ever heard about Anita Ekberg that you were searching for or Ingemar Bergman or Ingrid Bergman, not related.

Well Sweden started conquering parts of Finland at the latest in the 1250's (written records) so parts of it was ruled by Sweden for over 500 years.
That meant that Swedish used to be a common language in Finland since it was forced upon them.
Most speakers today I believe can be found on the southern west coast.
In 1919 the population of Åland called a vote if they should belong to Sweden instead of Finland and ~96% of the population voted yes.
The league of nations however didn't approve this so they remained with Finland.
The main language on Åland is still Swedish and I'd say most of them don't understand Finnish.

After all, Finland was Swedish for over six hundred years.

@@bengtolsson5436 As far as I remember from school, there was no conquering of Finland involved. Finland went to Sweden to ask for cooperation against Russia and gladly became a vassal state.
Conquering makes it seem like Sweden went there with armies. If you want to play on the idea of "colonisation" - it went both ways. Finns were begged to come to Sweden and settle Swedish forests.

The longest word in Sweden is actually "nordvästersjökustartilleriflygspaningssimulatoranläggningsmaterielunderhållsuppföljningssystemdiskussionsinläggsförberedelsearbete", which mean: "Northwest Coast Artillery Air Reconnaissance Simulator Installation Materiel Maintenance Follow-up System Discussion Post Preparation Work" according to Google translate (can't be bothered to translate it myself).

😂😂😂😂😂 why wasn't this mentioned in the video?

@@mauronicolo89 They might have just done the surface research of that fact, which then states what they say as it exist in the Swedish dictionary. But according to Guinness Record for Sweden's longest word, then that is: "nordvästersjökustartilleriflygspaningssimulatoranläggningsmaterielunderhållsuppföljningssystemdiskussionsinläggsförberedelsearbete".
It's not a word you use, but an attempt to make a compound as long as possible.

What?! No one sets glögg on fire 😂 There are a lot of weird "facts" in this video. And yes, we know what fika is in Italian but it is still the word for our coffee break culture so it will be said in every video about Swedish traditions 🤷‍♀️
