Thank you for sharing your experience shifting from travel cases to storing boxes. Always interesting. One thing riled me up though, Really Useful Boxes is actually a family-based UK company since its creation in 1999 that made a point producing their boxes in the UK (they're in Castleford, West Yorkshire). They now have expanded to producing part of their production in the US for the local market. Not the other way around ! Look at that, you made a french guy up in arms to defend a UK company, yay ;D
I honestly love these durable boxes to death even if it's now a bit hard to find them at a decent price in the EU (eh, Brexit didn't help).
Thanks again Nick for the tips about magnetizing bases for minis. Great stuff !

Hi fella, nice to hear that, I'd go for some 5x2mm magnets instead of doubling up on the 5x1mm, but I think that's about it. Mine are still working fine after a good amount of playing and changing from one version to the other.

Mr Nick as always you made an amazing video full detail with comments about all possible issues that you came with.
I would like to add some comments because when you described the materials it was hurting me to just thing about how much money you spent on this project.
For the metal sheets there is a far cheap solution: go to one of those big hardware stores with some different magnet sizes, they sell big (1x2 meters or so) metal sheets, you can test how well the magnetize on place (try to go for the cheapest and ligthest). And to cut them just buy a pair of metal scissors (not expensive at all). Then you can cut the size you want metal sheets far more cheaper than the ones you bough.
To glue them up, I recomend to give a try to the hot glue, those pistols are cheap and the glue too. That type of flue is more flexible that superglue and its easy to aply.
And finally, for the magnets, please use yellow puty is far more cheaper OR buy chinese magnets, they are low quality but I use them on pairs so I get the heigh I need and as they are so cheap I can use many of them and still will be cheap solution.
Thanks a lot for your good video contents and please continue giving us more good stuff (your magnetizing videos are my reference videos and I always share them with my friends).

I actually started doing this after buying one of the GW army boxes. I noticed that the foam was rubbing the paint off my necrons and also damaging some of my wraiths. I took old cookie sheets and magnetized my models, then stuck the sheets in a fitted plastic storage bin. I feel like this method is so much better than buying expensive cases.

I highly recommend 12x1mm magnets. They are stronger than 5x2, and they provide a larger surface area for super glue to adhere to. I’ve had zero issues with 12x1mm magnets coming off of bases - even on steel sheets. Additionally, you can stack them as 12x2 when a stronger bond is required for larger models. In order to use with GW bases, you generally have to clip off one or two of the little circles on the bottom of the GW base.

A recommendation for adhering the stainless sheets (if you want to go that way.. I think they look pretty cool) would be to go with contact cement. It's super strong, but also slightly flexible so it shouldn't have the same issues as super-glue and JB weld with cracking off. Side benefit is it looks much better through the bottom of the transparent containers than super glue or tape because the coloring is consistent. I've had good luck using it to bond magnetic sheets to the plastic myself.

In case you're still looking for feedback on gluing steel sheets to the bottom of the boxes, I can recommend the use of construction adhesive like Sikaflex 11FC (but I'm sure any other brand of polymer cement you find at a trade shop will do). It's rubbery, can be laid thick or thin and is basically able to stick roof tiles together. IT-WILL-NOT-MOVE-BROTHER! One question I'd like to ask is what kind of bag do you use to bring your Really Useful Boxes to the gameshop ? Seeing the size of your armies, I guess you're more likely to use your car than public transportation but do you have gaming friends using fitting bags for those boxes ?

    • @IDICBeer

I am using "no more nails" products to glue the magnets. Did you try it?
What is the efficiency of those storages when used in a motocycle top-case during a trip? Will the magnetism be enough for plastic miniatures during a trip on the road?
Did you notice differences between magnetic sheets ? Some are they more efficient than others?

    • @IDICBeer
      @IDICBeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi pal, glad you liked it. I have made an update video for this one now, where I try out the self adhesive sheets and they are amazing, there is literally no need to glue them. Here is the video bit.ly/3kWmHGG. All the sheets I used were good, although I have heard that other brands/suppliers of sheets haven't been so successful, so best to try them out before you do a big order. I have had the boxes in my car and they have been fine, not sure about a motorcycle tbh, but if the ride is more bumpy than a car, you may need a few more magnets for a stronger hold
