    I love his voice. I still remember him saying " Holly, i love you. You belong to me" to the lovely Audrey in the last scene of " Breakfast at Tiffany's. What a great film.

    George Peppard was a handsome man, white teeth, and his political party was Democrat. Peppard overcame a serious alcohol problem in 1978, and subsequently became heavily involved in helping other alcoholics. He had smoked three packs of cigarettes a day for most of his life until he quit after being diagnosed with lung cancer in 1992. His illness never forced his retirement from acting. He grew old quickly and only died at 65 years old. He is probably best known for his role as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, the cigar-chomping leader of a renegade commando squad, in the 1980s television show The A-Team. He is a legend - R.I.P George Peppard

      JOE - I think there was more to it than that- Robert Vaughn, who joined the cast during the final season, also clearly did not like Mr T and called him insane. Also, Mr T complained if he had too much dialogue and would state that he wasn’t an actor. I loved Mr T but I can understand the friction.

    Peppard restores my faith in humanity. In his younger days he was notorious for egomania, affairs, and alcoholism. Later on he quit booze, became a great sponsor to many fellow AA members, and took part in lots of charitable activities. Maybe there is hope for humans...

    Breakfast at Tiffany's was certainly Audrey's movie but man was George Peppard an elegant man! You can tell he had talent and some charm, it's too bad his career didn't quite live up to BAT. Nonetheless he is a good example to emulate if you are into that early 60's Ivy League fashion sense...

    Back in 1968, I was studying acting in Hollywood and working as a chauffeur for celebrities. I was sent to be interviewed by George Peppard and Elizabeth Ashley, at their home in Laurel Canyon. At that time, George was being fitted for suits by his custom tailor while I sat in his living room waiting for our interview. George sat in his recliner and I sat across from him. He opened a bottle of Scotch whiskey and poured a drink for both of us. (On the rocks, no ice)! He lit a cigarillo and I smoked my camels while we discussed the possibility of me being his personal assistant and chauffeur. We both finished the bottle of Scotch and George opened another one. During the discussion, I asked George why he wasn't considered a "super-star" like Newman and McQueen. His answer: "...look, I never fit in with the so-called in-crowed in Hollywood, and I try to stay on the outside of that club. That's why they snub me...." After a couple of hours of conversation; we both were feeling the booze and I admitted to George that I had ambitions of being an actor like him one day. Obviously I didn't get the job, but George gave me advice on starting out in the business of Hollywood. We were both former Marines and we became good friends from that point on. They would invite me over for dinner. To be honest; I regret not taking the job and exposing my true feelings to him about my aspirations of being an actor like him.

      Hello, 👋🏻
      Why did you say obviously you didn’t get or take the job. Why not ?
      When you spent time with him drinking a bottle of scotch. Was he even obviously drink or could he handle his liquor very well?
      What kind of things did you talk about ? Was he a mean man that you saw ? He declared he was when he first met Dwight Schultz on the set of The-A-Team.
      Did you ever talk about his car history, which make/ models he liked, or travel?

    • @vatnine
      @vatnine 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jasonknight5863 We talked about his career and my ambitions of wanting to become an actor like him. We were both former Marines and we talked about that too. The conversation was sort of me being the interviewer and he being interviewed! That's the way the conversation went. He also gave me advice on how to make it in show business--like he and Elizabeth did. We had a lot in common!

    • @jasonknight5863
      @jasonknight5863 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@vatnine ah I see. So that’s perhaps why you didn’t work for him. Because he saw you as competition for future jobs.
      I would do the exact same thing too. Interview him and keep asking him questions.
      He must have been a nice guy if he was fine being interviewed for many hours all evening.
      I’m guessing the people that say he is hard to work with. Mostly from the A Team said so not understanding that he was a classically trained actor and a very refined fellow. Driving I Mercedes SL which is the car I believe he had before he died. So people just got the wrong idea of him.
      Did you discuss what kind of cars he owned or his favorite music was at all ?
      I’m a car guy.
      Thank you for the reply. Have a great weekend:)

    his hairstyle never changed since 1961! and he kept it all, always a plus for a man getting into middle age. Its odd to watch someone smoke on a tv chat show, it was the norm then I guess, given that Peppard died of complications due to lung cancer it would seem quite ominous,but he made some super films, The Blue Max, The Executioner, Operation Crossbow to name a few.

    My favorite movies starring Peppard's
    - Operation Crossbow

    • @CaminoAir
      @CaminoAir 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      'Operation Crossbow' is a surprisingly dark and gritty war film for a big budget, star cast film of that time. It's stark in what happens to the characters, especially Sophie Loren and Tom Courtney. It's a strong film and the special effects climax has been raided repeatedly for stock footage in other films (even being used in 'Damnation Alley' with Peppard himself).

    • @defiraphi
      @defiraphi 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree , but i love stock footage ( true documentary event that really happened ) than those silly CGI effects from nowadays . Look how Second War movies are nowadays all of them are shitty , because they lost emotions, those stock footage , and most importantly TRUE actors and TRUE movie realisators ( all is given on new generation ones who's don't have a damn clue how to make a movie )
      The only WWII movie from nowadays is White Tiger ( Russian movie )
      lol no Inglorious Basterds is NO War movie just a comedy so that i NEVER count as a real true War movie
      Spoils of War sucked , The Bridge ' Die Brücke ' remake sucked , and so on have wasted 150€ on stupid war movies without interest , showing us only 1 CGI ship or tank or plane everyone is happy ? Heck with that . ( give me more the Longest Day those effects are still GREAT )
      True ahh who never loved those beautiful eyes from Sophia Loren ? mmm even today they make me fall in love ( just a portayal how that actress is Beautiful )
      Tom Courtney oh yes and alot in that movie showed clichés too ( The English Umbrella , The English Mustache , the Way of doing etc... ) but all in all i love this movie i even remade it with playing with plastic soldiers then i became older and discovered Medal of Honor Allied Assault a fragment of that movie is there too same goes for Return of Castle Wolfenstein . So many great war movies back in those days i hope they could make movies like that again soon !
      My war movies are ; ( in none particular order )
      Longest Day
      Operation Crossbow
      Tobruk ( with George Peppard and Hudson ) NOT the Richard Burton one
      Were Eagles Dare
      Anzio
      Battle of the Buggle
      Dirty Dozen
      The Great Escape
      A Bridge to Far
      The Bridge of Remagen
      and many others ...... ( can't name them all )
      Other war movies i love ( non WWII ) were ;
      Zulu
      Khartoum
      Zulu Dawn
      Spartacus
      Alamo
      Vikings
      And many more ....
      Wowww so glad i was born to a great time were movies WERE movies with Real Actors, Realisators, A True story , Emotions etc...
      Biggest example of a fail movie from Nowadays to Past was Pearl Harbor a way to lonnnnggg love story for hours for only 15minutes true event action . The Real movie was and still is thousand better Tora Tora Tora!!! but yes .....

    George Peppard was in the film’Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. Which is a pretty significant Hollywood film when the industry was in its prime unlike the crap that it generically churns out today! (Even Americans don’t bother to defend it). I wonder if he got fed up with people mostly recognising his work from the A Team in the same way Alec Guinness was annoyed at only being associated with Star Wars when he’d produced much better body of work such as ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ etc.

  • @MrWolfTickets

    In his obituary, there was a quote from one of his last interviews about his career; He said of his status when the he landed the role of Hannibal Smith "I was cold, cold as you can get". Watch a few min of Damnation Alley to confirm that. It's so cool to see him in this interview, no doubt very down on the inside, but just on the cusp of the final and biggest hurrah of his career.

      @La vie en Rose The A-Team, they were a group of soldiers who were framed for committing a crime, but they escaped to the Los Angeles underground, and were on the run. They helped people out in the 80s, for some serious cash. *Based on true events* xD

    The downside and hypocrisy of NBC is baffling.The A-Team series could only go so far with violence in not allowing any deaths within every episode.I have thought about this for years.During the run of The A-Team,NBC also aired shows such as the weekly "V" series (84-85) and probably NBC's best series ever- Miami Vice (84-89). V and Miami Vice both had "realistic" violence with on-screen deaths where as A-Team wasn't allowed to do the same.Huge hypocrisy within NBC execs during that era I think.

    • @NeonGen2000
      @NeonGen2000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The A-Team would have been ruined if realistic violence and death occurred. The lack of deaths and blood was the only reason many children were allowed to watch it by their parents. The A-Team was a show that everyone in the family could enjoy. Shows like that don't exist any more. So everybody sits apart watching their own stuff on their own little screens and nobody sits together any more.
