I'm all for Natural and non toxic! But being disabled and having 5 cats-there's just NO way I could do this. Thank you though for this and ALL you do❗❤🐈🐕
TY so much for ALL of your helpful advice! I use DA on my fur babies and I found a little trick. I add some of the powder to a small sock and use it to gently powder them all over, it really helps to get into those hidey places where the fleas like to go. Afterwards I give the babies lots of love and really work it into their coat. We use it in our yards and have converted our neighbors, it really helps!
We used diatomaceous earth on our animals and in our home and it is the only thing that has worked so well for flea control on our animals and home. I HIGHLY recommend it and we drowned our home in it and we were all fine.
You are the best vet ever... You actually care more about the welfare of animals than being greedy...
I love your combination of science, ethics, nature & altruism.
Thank you so very much, from all the animals in my family, & me. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🇬🇧💞🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
You are so kind. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely agree!!!
Most vets out there just want to sell people that topical poison to put on their furbabies.
When those people's critters come up with brain tumours & such, I bet they'll wish they hadn't used the poisons.
Yes right... !
That's what I use. Good to hear it from a vet who cares about the dog more than the dollar.🐕
A true vet will never push a topical insecticide on any animal , unless necessary . I like the Honesty that you give to your viewers and to your pet owners patients .
Exactly
Thank you!!!Have used this for years! Sprinkle it on doggies beds, blankets and around. Before the flea season begins, I start at my back door, then work out from there. On fold of stairs, on patio, and then circumference of yard outward. We live in rural area with animal life and their fleas are huge. Weather conditions must be dry, if it rains application goes again. I buy a huge bag at feed store to do this. Apply both back and front areas, but primarily where dogs most activity. I hope this helps anyone with those terrible fleas.
Works in cats?
@@martinabueno2740 YES cats!!
Thank you for this info!
Do you sprinkle it around and leave it on the dogs bed and floor, or do you sprinkle it and clean up after a day ( Dr. Jones suggests to shower the dog after 24 hours ) ?
Most of what I out on Dogs will fall as they move around going for water, food, etc. Like when one applies those chemicals down their spine, some of this powder will fall down to the skin, I leave it on. Do this after a bath and when they are well dried. Same with Beds, blankets and around their beds. Most of it will get cleaned or swiped away when I clean around the area, but pretty much leave it until I bathe and wash again in a month or if they get soiled. Thank you
I've used this before. I never had a problem with it. I also used it on the carpet and furniture and it does work but not instantly. I also used it in the garden and lawn because it works well on ants 🐜. The food grade version can be ingested by animals and humans also. It makes a great dewormer and gets rid of intestinal parasites. You should move to the USA because we love our alternative medicine doctors and vets!!!
Glad I saw your comment as I adopted a 3 1/2 year old GSD and he has tapeworm, probably had them when I got him but I’m giving him DE food grade and it’s working!!

How do you use it for worming??
Tula is such a great dog..she never seems to complain 🖒🐶😻
She is amazing.
It works because the powder has microscopic super sharp spikes that pierce the soft body . Basically the fleas are walking on glass shards
Thanks for explaining that
YES!!! Also works for tick control! It’s brilliant! You are too!!!🐾🐾💜🐾🐾💚
It's been 6 years since I've used food grade diatomaceous earth for flea control and deworming my Maltese. It also works for human parasite control. My veterinarian here in Israel learned from me and gave it to her daughter who had a bad reaction to the pharmaceutical medication meant to kill her abdominal parasites.
Where can I buy this
Do you know if it also works for ticks?
@@lupsy54 yes, should work for ticks
How often do you apply it?
We’ve used this for flea control and parasite control for years. It’s really great as a horse wormer. No more peaks and valleys of parasites.
Nice!❤️
We moved into a property that was infested with fleas. We used D.E all over the house and it worked a treat! We also use it on live stock and for intestinal parasites too xxx
That's great to hear!
Where can I buy d.e.?
@@virginiazequeira6258 Amazon. Be sure to buy "food grade" though.
@@virginiazequeira6258 I bought Diatomaceous Earth @ my local feed store (food grade).
@@samename6479 Check the bag, it might say equine on it. Meaning, for horses. I got a bag at Tractor Supply once and thought I was getting human grade food grade, but found out that it was for livestock. Not human grade. For around a litter box or for treating all the floorboards or furniture, it's ok. Plus lots of vacuuming. We had a flea infestation once and I think I vacuumed like, twice a day, everywhere in the house, for almost 3 months before there were no more fleas. Good luck with your D.E. experience!
I use it around my cat litter boxes to keep beetles out during the summer when it's hot and they're looking for moisture. it also works well along door jams and windowsills to keep the ants out. I will never apply the topical insecticides to any of my pets. Diatomaceous earth is so useful, I love it! I found it at my local lawn & garden store in the fertilizer section. :)
Please make sure it is food grade for use on and around pets! If it was at a lawn and garden center they may carry the dangerous type of DE. It is processed and contains toxins. Food/human grade is the safe one 😊
@@desertdweller4316 I researched the brand thoroughly before I purchased. It's safe.
And why wouldn’t you use it topical on pet? A little drying but fleas carry disease and can cause anemia. Not many other options out there. Fleas are resilient and don’t die easily

@@Floppycats about once a week or so . I usually do it outside and put the powder in one of those new mustard or ketchup bottles and squirt it on them and fluff it around.

Not likely to ever breathe this stuff in, because it is very sticky to surfaces, and has dense qualities. Thank you very good video, I am doing this.
Thank you Dr Jones. I am so holistic with my family and our fur family. You are awesome. Answer to my prayers. 🥰🥰
I mix mine with neem powder & Yarrow powder to also calm the itchy skin & heal small wounds. It works like charm & smells very nice & gentle. We use an old fat makeup brush to apply & also sprinkle it on the pet beds, on our carpets & upholstery & vacuum regularly. Viola! No fleas!
Good to know, thank you.
What and where do find those powder
What measurements do you use together please?
🌼 I occasionally treat my yard with it too. It seems to help a lot! I also diffuse cedarwood and lemongrass.
Dr Jones please can you demonstrate how to apply it to cats. Thank you.
Also is it okay to use on strays that don't get bathed?
U apply it same way.... ive seen people use it on cats dont need to bath them from what ive seen
I do this on my dogs and use on my chickens as well. My only complaint is when they decide to shake right next to you it does create the dust cloud. I definitely recommend over those harmful drops for sure. Thanks again friend!!!
My dog had fleas for the first year or 2 of her life. I used DE as well as trifexus from vet. I started researching & found out about raw fed dogs. I started raw feeding my golden at a year old.she is 13 1/2 . Hasn't had fleas for over 10 years. I Don't use any flea prevention. She has nice soft skin & that isn't what fleas are looking for.
Thank you Dr for your ❤ for dogs
Tula so wants to please you! She's adorable!
Both my cat and my yorkie rub up on the bag and sit by it until I put the diatomaceous earth on them. At a tractor supply company you can get a large bag of food grade diatomaceous earth. You can also sprinkle it in the yard if you have sand fleas out there. When I sprinkle it on the carpet my cat will roll around in it like it's catnip. Been using it for about four years. Works very well.
Good to know, thanks!
Yeah my dogs don’t enjoy taking a bath either they want to get out. It is the best time then they’re very happy and excited. Thanks for the video. I really appreciate it. I’m sure we all do. God bless you for being a good honest veterinarian that really wants to help.🥰❤️
I also helps get grease off of them. Must be food grade. I believe it’s made from fossilized plankton. It’s also used if it’s mfood grade as a dewormer. I use it on my veggie plants all the time. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️🐾❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾💪🏻🖖🏻
I just finished covering my goats, chickens, dogs and cats in DE- I use it to kill hard shelled insects in the garden too!! We use it to detoxify ( banana/ kale/apple milkshakes)ourselves too!!!
I absolutely love Diatomaceous Earth. It cures a lot of ails for my pets. And, it is so much cheaper than those other flea remedies.
@sheri4673 I also use it as a deformed for my 🐈 and chicken 🐔. I add a small amount to their food periodically.
When I first heard about DE, I was scared to try it. But I'm glad I did.
We place some of it in our rug deodorizer and let it sit before vacuuming. We've been using it over 20 years on our dogs. We get ours at the Tractor Supply Company or any local farm and tractor.
Really love watching your vids, Dr. Jones! Always something interesting and helpful! As a rescue mom for cats, you've saved me so much money! I can't thank you enough! I'm so happy to hear my videos are helpful, thank you:)
Sending hugs and Gratitude from Nova Scotia. Juno (our itchy Chow/Shar Pei rescue) has a much better life because of you!.
That's great to hear.
I’ve used D.E. on my dogs with a few drops of lavender essential oil: 100% effective; zero problems. Thanks Dr. Jones for the confirmation.
I've used DE on my chickens, ducks & for ants but never thought to use it on my dogs. Great idea. DE is wonderful. I've never lost a chicken or duck from DE. If your worried about them ingesting it make sure to have fresh water available, its safe for humans to use as drink.
Something I do to help fight fleas in the house: I put everything in a hot dryer for about 5 mins... Fleas can't live in hot dry environments, so this kills them quick; from adults to eggs!

Hello Dr Jones brilliant I always want to learn more of natural way. Thank you for debunking this topic Great 👍🏻 vid and advice too Keep safe too Dr Jones 🥰👍🏻
I can say, from diatomaceous dust cloud experience, it caused little to no ill effect. It was my first time doing it, there were 4 dogs and a bunch of cats and i took them out to the yard and dusted them but they would shake themselves and it was an absolute cloud! I did use a lot because most were long haired and i was waging war againt a flea infestation that was so bad and so resistant to pesticides, you could directly spray them and they were fine. So i went crazy. But it worked! I definitely breathed in a bunch of it and no issues.
Nowadays i go a lot lighter, but food grade diatomaceous earth and a dawn bath once a week knocks out flea infestation. Its a harsh routine, i feed my pets fish oil to help with the dry skin, but its temporary and better than poisons and constant flea battle
I have been using it for years. The caution is to make sure it is the food/horticulture grade not the pool grade. The pool grade is highly toxic and used in pool filters.
I have 5 pups & 2 kittys ❤️
1- do you apply it to cats the same?
2- Do you HAVE to bathe them? Or can you leave it on?
3- will it hurt them if they lick it?
4- can you apply it on the tile & carpet and leave it?
Thank you so much❤️🙏
Another super video! I've been using it for years on my furbabies as a flea treatment and on their food to fight off parasite infections. Also great to use on the veggie patch at this time of the year. Thank you.
I use on my cats been 1.5 years. It's organic food grade. When an out break happens I use a small amount sometimes daily. The one cat licks it off it can be immediately. I have put in the carpet. I think the flea liquids are really bad. This stuff does work! I am using the CBD oil from you keeps the coat shiny.
Tula says "Thanks for not poisoning me."
👍
My kitty is a sweetie until I try to give her a bath nope nope nope

Kills ringworm too. With 1 or 2 wks application
Never would have thought of this one...thank you
The key words here are "food grade" DE. The swimming pool stuff is what can really tear up your sinuses, eyes and lungs. I'm assuming the pool filter kind is ground less fine but from experience it is pretty finely ground!
Hi i already knew about it but few of my doubts been cleared in this video....thanks a lot...
Love from India....Very first time to ur channel and nice knowing u and ur channel, just subscribed
thank you!
The best flea control or elimination, in my case at least, is coconut laundry soap bars. Here in Brazil it's very easy to find.
It kills all the fleas on the animal! Believe me. It does.
The vacuum cleaner is your best ally in your fight against flea eggs. They hide in rugs, carpets, in the blankets/beds your pets sleep on, and if you have wooden floors keep an eye open for gaps between the planks of wood. There are products you could use on the floor. Fun (maybe not that fun) fact: flea eggs can live for over a year as eggs.
I got rid of the rugs and my pet's beds and blankets.
I have a cat. They sleep anywhere. Your bed, couches, chairs, boxes...
I, personally, don't like carpets or rugs. So I never put them back. If you do, maybe have them professionally cleaned.
Thanks for that info!
Yes, I got a kick out of your "not so fun-fact"! Been there - I actually was going over all of the piping on our couch to make sure there were no eggs anywhere; had to buy special hand held vacuums for some of the places that had to be cleaned. So glad that is over. Another thing you can do as far as bedding or, in our case, cloth toys that our one cat was really attached to: If it's small enough to go in a plastic bag and then in the freezer, put it in there, for like 2 weeks or so then launder them when they come out of the deep freeze. I am not sure if that will get the eggs (I think it does) but it gets them at every other stage. You know, if the eggs are laying around somewhere and someone walks past, the vibration of their steps can actually trigger the flea to break out of the shell, and then you have one jumping around till it gets on the cat. I think someone said very hot temperatures kills them in the egg stages, so sometimes we would put the heat on (this was in July/August/Sept for us) and keep it on for several hours at a time, along with a woodstove fire to heat up the house and kill any eggs I didn't get with the vacuum or with hand mopping the floor. What a nightmare. I agree with you about carpets - don't have any wall-to-wall ones, but I do have an area rug in two rooms. Does this coconut laundry soap have a name? Is it Zote?
@@Terrie23JTN 👍

What about tick prevention will it be effective for any insect infestation?
I love the way you so patiently explain in detail what we need to know....Thank You. Dr Jones; could you help with hot spots... my dog is chewing himself (and me ) crazy and I can't figure out what is causing it; I can't find anything on him; I comb him out everyday, and I make a natural tonic of cedar, olive, ginko, cammomille, alittle home made acv, and coconut oil weekly, and (we call it "spa night") and give him a sponge bath with it, as he hates getting wet; I works great for a while, and then he's right back at it... He just started chewing on himself a few weeks ago... He is a puppy mill victim, and he has a few issues; and I'm wondering if this isn't an emotional nervous thing. How do I stop it; and is there any natural product; herb that might help? I've had a few dogs; and have never had this problem before; it's perplexing to say the least, and I'm worried that he will cause secondary infections.
I use Diatomaceous Earth on all my animals. Including my chickens, Ducks and Geese! Their dust bath. I clean my chicken house and sprinkle it everywhere, especially in the nesting boxes. I put DE in with the chicken's feed too. I also put it in my cat's food and dog's food. It works on carpets too, leave it on for 24 hours, then vacuum.
Thank so much Dr Jones, I will get it , my 3 paw -girls and me will be confident and safe from those fleas...have a good weekend....Blessings

Good girl Tula!🐕
I haven't found this has worked at all. this year has been a terrible terrible year for fleas in my dogs
Hi doc! So glad I found you :) question is it ok to add a bit in your pets water? Will that help in any way? Or not recommended? Thank you in advance
I used it for awhile on my dog and her coat became super dry. She started scratching more from the dry skin than any fleas. So use caution. It is not for my dog. I make homemade flea repellent with lemons and apple cider vinegar. Good for the coat and effective at repelling fleas.
I did not find it to be effective as well as drying out their skin. I wish it did! I hate the toxic chemical drugs.
I bought food grade from two different suppliers thinking that maybe I received something that was substandard from the first supplier.
I read as soon as you get it wet it doesn't work so I made sure to spread it around the house and didn't wash the floors for 3 days, leaving the powder there, dry. Still, last year I ended up having to buy the pills because they really were suffering with the fleas. I hated having to give them those pills!
@@blaze3884 Frequent vacuuming is the best thing to prevent fleas as well as washing their bedding at least once per week. People should be worried about the next generation of fleas instead of the ones on their dog. I make my own repellent with lemons and apple cider vinegar. Works great.
@Mama Bear You can mix up a flea powder with DE that is easier on their skin. 1 part neem powder, 1 part yarrow powder, 2 parts DE. Neem helps run off the fleas, and the yarrow powder is soothing to the skin. For dogs--but never for cats--you can add a few drops of eucalyptus oil.
@@mamabear9389 can you offer your recipe, please?
@@Floppycats Slice lemons thinly with skin on, cover with water and boil for about ten minutes. Add a bit of rosemary. Let it cool and strain it. You can use it like this. I just put some on my fingers and then rub into the fur. You can also mix with a bit of apple cider vinegar.
My dog is licking her paws and I was thinking it is allergies, but just now I saw a flea on my hand after petting her, yikes! I am not sure if that there is a connection, but no matter what I have to treat her against fleas. Thank you so much for this video! I happen to have D.E. in my house, I use it for many things and I love that it is natural. You are the best! I can start immediately now to de-flea the house.

I have used this in my home and it worked great. However I have asthma and had an attack when cleaning it up. If you have breathing problems I would suggest not disturbing it and having someone else clean it up.
Pop a mask on dear, will help loads with your breathing.
@@selinaoakley3613 Great advice. This stuff is very fine and becomes airborne easily and clings to clothing and hair etc. A mask may help but for anyone extremely asthmatic I would still suggest having someone else clean up.

I’m from USA and never heard of that product. Is it the same as baking soda because that’s what are you say sprinkle it all over the carpet for the same reason sometimes I put a drop or two of essential oils in there and then it becomes a nice fragrant lavender or whatever you want.
