Hi! I’m Jennifer. After working in the medical field in many different capacities over the last 15 years, I have learned much about where medical practice owners go wrong in running their businesses. I created this channel to try and assist medical practice owners from making the same mistakes as their colleagues. I want to see the private practice world of medicine grow and thrive. I believe healthcare has become too institutionalized, creating many unnecessary obstacles and demands.

I need help with allergy coding. Aetna denied 95024 with 99213-25. They paid the lower (OV) & stated 95024 has a lower RVU relative value unit. Would appreciate any input

Thank you for watching and the question! In my experience allergy testing with an office visit is not covered with Aetna unless the testing visit requires treatment due to a patient having a bad reaction where the testing stopped completely and intervention and treatment had to take its place. In that case you document the reason for this and the exact time the testing stopped and treatment began, what was given/done and how long that part of the visit lasted. We did not allow patients to do testing on the same day as a consult or other visit due to this fact and they had to return at least the next day for the testing. Aetna was the most stringent of the payers in our practice. We also did benefit checks on how many allergens were covered for testing because all payers are different and we wanted to inform patients of what their plan covered and if they wanted additional, then they signed an agreement to pay out of pocket for the extra. This had to be done before services were rendered. I hope this helps!
