Great and informative video! A little trick I learned for lapping in valves is to use a lighter lapping compound, put the valve in, attach a piece of fuel line to the valve stem, a drill bit into the other side of the fuel line, and use a drill on its slowest ratio to spin the valves while applying light pressure with your fingers. Works wonders and makes speedy work of an otherwise fun but tedious and time consuming process. Also, my personal technique for valve keepers is a nice thick grease or sticky assembly lube and a pocket screwdriver. Got quite quick with them that way. So if anyone wants to try a couple different ways of doing things, there's another option.
Can't wait to get to this point on one of my personal motors!

Enjoying your videos on the v70r. You mentioned in prior vids you like to fix your cars and then sell them. I’d love to be able to buy it from you when you are ready to let it go. wether it be 6months or 2years from now.

Can you share the brand of the tool that you used to compress the springs???
Too many choices and I do not enough of what brand to pick.

Hi EuroJulien. Peter from Australia here , I'm currently rebuilding a Volvo 2.5t 2005 engine same type of block as your V70r , I'm looking for a valve compression tool like the one you use ,my question is is it a OTC Large from Amazon or ? comments on Amazon that the tool is not being strong enough for higher force springs? The tool you got looks good , still got my ENG head on the bench.

Informative video that leaves a lot of questions.
    1. How many miles on head before Stage 2 port & polish?
    2. What are valve stem/valve guide specs on used head vs. OEM
    3. Why pay for an expensive Stage 2 P&P and not have same shop do a quality 3-5 angle valve seat job?? Hand lapping valves is good for proofing a valve job, it does NOT correct worn or incorrect OEM seat/valve angles. Porting and polishing a cylinder head with old valve guides, stock valves and stock seat angles seems questionable? Let me guess, you don't have before and after flow bench numbers for your stock vs "P&P head???

      1. 160k miles, iirc. 2. Don’t remember off the top of my head. 3. All the feedback I got is that if a Volvo head passes vac/pressure test don’t touch the seats. This was info given from a premier Volvo engine builder

@@eurojulien I'm an old Redblock guy and a new White block guy and I question your "premier Volvo engine builder". Volvo valves and seats are durable but are not ground at multiple angles. Additionally, valvle guides/inserts are seldom optimized in factory builds. My toilet valve will pass a standard vac test, does that mean it is high performance??

Great video!! Question; I’m in the process of rebuilding the head on my 06 S40 after the car jumped timing. I got me valves. I’ve always heard that these engines never need valve clearance adjustments. During engine disassembly, I numbered the valve tappets in order to install them in the same location. Will the valve clearance be within specs even with the new valves? Im

for sure check your valve tolerances

You seem to have used Victor Reinz components, any problems after it was finish. Robert only like to used Volvo stuff for valves and head gasket!

I heard before that Elring made the head gasket for Volvo but I'm not sure .Anyway ,Elring makes only OEM components.
It's known as other manufactures work for automotive industry, in this case Volvo and stamp logo(Volvo) on it. For example INA make the mechanical tensioner for timming belt kit. And so on with other parts

Yes, again an illustrative video of how things are done wrong and I will publish it so that others can do it wrong as well. First, the valve is inserted into the cylinder head, then the cover is placed on the valve, and only then does the valve seal engage so as not to damage the lip of the seal. Then I put on the spring and the valve locks. Volvo supplies this cover as a standard part. So if you do not know the basic procedures, please do not teach others how to do it and still badly. Thank you.
