It always looks effortless, so many drummers look like Animal from the muppets, Ian always looks like he could be doing his taxes in his head at the same time!
you are wrong..., he always was too flashy and really technique, with a lot of hand technique..., thats why i love him..., last years he go more simple..., but before, his first marillion records, hackett work, trace album or iris...., is really really flashy...
@@alexhicks5889 seems like to say is dlashy is something bsd..., really..., only in assasin he is really flashy..., in emerald lies or she chamaleon, or incubus or fugazzi he is flashy, and is nothing bad, i love it..., one of my favs!
Ian Mosley's the quintessential drum-player: wonderful sense of opportunity, of economy really, exquisite use of dynamics. He is in the service of the song, of what the song asks of him, and he delivers it gracefully, effortlessly, tastefully. You sense clearly, at times, that he was more than able to go beyond, to make himself more noticeable, but that simply is not his style. He never loses sight of his place within the band, as part of a whole.
Dear Ian…you’ve always been my drummer’s inspiration 🥁🥰. Your melody and the feelings you brought me for almost 40 years by your touchy and precise plays will last for ever 🙏🏽. I’ve become a humble drummer because of you and John Henry Bonham. Can’t wait to hear you live with Marillion for almost the 40th time ! Thanks for your sharings and hoping having a few words from you in return 🤞🏽
Ian brought me sticks before a soundcheck on a convention in zeeland. My wife asked him as we randomly met him in the market hall, at that time i didn’t have a drum kit. Now i am playing marillion songs on my own kit with this sticks…thank you Ian! He took them out of a kind of sportsbag and at the beginning they smelled after his perfume. Won’t ever forget this….
Ian is so economic with movements it’s truly impressive, he is like a true jazz drummer. He also has the gift of having all the power and precision in his wrists, his timing is impeccable I’m surprised he uses a click. You can tell I’m a fan of his drumming 🙂
Well, AFAIK in the early 00s the marillos would use a visual sort of metronome hidden away which would flash in sync with the sequences and effects to sync with. Astoundingly, they made it work. When I tried that sort of thing myself (with a DIY midi flashing thingy) the drummer and the sequences would slowly but inevitably drift out of time even with a few retriggers.
Such an understated and subtle drummer, not attention getting by any stretch, but when you pay attention Ian is amazingly skilled. The feel he has is so fitting to Marillion, and that style is instantly recognisable. I've been lucky enough to see Marillion live and I was mesmerized by Ian, you really don't realise just how much is going on back there on the kit until you see it. All the marvelous live concert footage that exists doesn't show Ian nearly enough imho. I know he's shy and doesn't enjoy the cameras on him, but that man is a master on the kit and we should be allowed to marvel at him more.
My Hero, listen for example “Mad” from the album Brave the groove and drive is incredible, Ian is playing with air within the beats, that’s how I feel it. Best to you Ian from the Netherlands
Thanks Ian! You play for one of my top 3 bands (the other two being Genesis and Yes). I took up drumming age 40 and now play once a month for my local church band. Such sound but simple advice, too!
So nice. Play, Listen and Practice. Simple advice, but true. Wonder who still builds drums in the UK. Would be interesting to hear how they create so different sounds out of of the same room.
Always a pleasure listening to you about the set-up! Have to admit, that I liked your sound most on 'Fugazi', followed by 'Misplaced….'. both recorded on Yamaha then. Your live sound 1985 was one of the best I ever had the pleasure to hear, just outstanding to me. If Tama sucks regarding the endorsement: Sonos SQ2 might be a serious alternative, too.
Nice to watch, thanks. I used to have a Tama Artstar 2 bird's-eye maple ! It would be interesting to know which drum sizes you use, cymbal type and weights/sizes, and which mics and preamps you use to record? Thanks, Omar Hayes
Hello, Ian, I would like to know, if it is not too much trouble, the model of those (ride and hi hat) old cymbals that you use!! Thank you!!✌🏽 Marillion, arte y sentimiento puros. Gracias!!
I have a hunch that Premier drums might be coming back to the market. I heard rumours about that. And how many other British companies are there really?
VERY Underrated drummer, and such a humble guy too.
I don't think Marillion do this for the money, they do it because the LOVE what they do.
Always loved Ian's drumming . So precise without being too flashy .

@@jaimesorli2436 ok. I didn't know that. I only know his work with Marillion. I will just out his other stuff. Cheers
He can be intricate as hell, but never too flashy. In Marillion, anyway, he's the dictionary definition of tasteful!

Most humble and likable musician in the industry and a very skilled drummer
PROFESSIONAL and Artist !!!
Ian, you will not be disappointed with the British Drum Company! Their drums are fantastic. Can’t wait to hear you playing them!

Fully agree. I always like when they show him in the videos. And he always looks like he's really enjoying it.
Agree with everything except His timing is NOT impeccable at all. Have you ever heard him live? Races like crazy and comes out of fills too quickly.
@@davegarciaofficial Hi Dave..Ian here..I try my best🥁😎
@@davegarciaofficial …But he can go back again. That is the beauty of live playing. We drummers know best.

Glad you like them!
Sensational drummer & marvelous person, Love Mr. Ian Mosley.
The first time i heard his playing was in a band named Trace. The best drummer of all time. A trully master!!!!
The man is a class act.
Always a classy style, his introduction on Assassing illustrated how the band had raised the bar once more.

Loved the left/right markings on the drumsticks! Absolute genius! 👌😂
What a lovely fella 👌
A real gentleman..cracking player👍🥁
Ian’s playing has been so much part of the Marillion sound, solid, accurate and with great feeling. A real pros pro. 👍
Love your drumming since Misplaced Childhood. A fan ever since.
I never knew Mosley was friends with Steve Hackett! That's incredible.
Huge influence on me and my drumming. And a real gent, thank you Ian...
It was a pleasure to listen to it Ian and so calm to explain about your precious drumms .
Love this guy
God, I love Ian!

Big step backwards from Tama to Brit Drum Company. They don’t have the experience, range or quality.
