  • Here's my take on Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein's 'All the Things You Are', recorded live at Mr. Vain. / mrvainbrisbane
Kern and Hammerstein wrote 'All the Things You Are' for their 1939 musical 'Very Warm for May'. That same year, it was recorded by the orchestras of Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, and Frankie Masters, quickly becoming popular for its unusual but striking harmonic structure. The introductory riff from Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker's 1945 recording has become synonymous with the tune.
'All the Things You Are' has also been sung by Mildred Bailey, Billy Eckstine, Frank Sinatra, Jo Stafford, Vic Damone, Sarah Vaughan, Mario Lanza, Ray Eberle, Sammy Davis Jr., Carmen McRae, Chris Connor, Shirley Bassey, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Annie Ross, Ray Charles, Barbra Streisand, Betty Carter, Bill Henderson, Mark Murphy, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, and even Michael Jackson!
    I hope you enjoy it!
