    omg, I'm just blown away. It's my goal to get to somewhere in the realm of where you are with that kind of reading skill. I've just started tackling the reading aspects of playing bass, even though I was a working bass players in a clubs for years. I admire your skills and I intend to stick with this, if for no other reason than my own satisfaction, whether I read a chart in a band for anyone or not. I'm totally immersed in it and I love seeing the happiness and pleasure it brings you...it shows and it's a tremendous incentive. Thanks for posting.

    Why so many of these 'tutorials' are just a long monologue??

    It's an unfortunate fact that virtuoso musicians are not necessarily particularly good teachers. However, if you stick with them, and find out what level they are working at and what they seem to expect your level to be and how they feel they can convey the information they have acquired - often very far apart - then you will actually learn from these guys. The inspiration they provide is instructive enough anyway; enjoy:)

    First thing I teach for sight-reading is - line up the music stand, so you can see your left hand! He has to move is head WAY too much. Needless...

    Funny this is one of the books I used to get into sight reading ( new real book vol 2 ) then I heard jazz is ear music so started working stuff out by ear now I’ve come full circle and want to improve my sight reading again. The only trouble with this style of sight reading is you don’t develop reading multiple notes at a time so I’ve started doing some classical and baroque ( baroque is good because it tends to be contrapuntal so 2 notes at a time ) but I’m going to try time track looks tricky 😅

    Your intentions are good but this could easily be condensed to 5 minutes. Do you believe we will watch the whole video with enthusiasm? I quit at 8 minutes.

    Maybe the subject could be " Before to start sight reading " or " Tips for sight reading ". Also general idea is " get a photographic memory " well there is no other option but i would to see different ways like short cuts for memorizing mostly used timings etc. Ok my idea is , just download any of the free note composing programs , load the score listen&watch how your computer playing the notes then try to memorize , try to play.Anyway , Janek is a great player and there is some usefull ideas in this video for beginners especially.

    after 9 minutes of talk...there was no sight reading instruction....just talk...and certainly not going to go thru 12 weeks of this...."your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime"

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  9 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      +Michael Sherrer did you miss the first 1 minute and 40 seconds of the video where I was sight reading? And then the rest of the video where I explain a collection of concepts that helped me improve my reading, and then a brief breakdown of what we're covering in this course and how it's going to help the sight reading ability of anyone who takes it? I'm all for freedom of speech and everyone being able to comment on any video that's released to the public as my one is here. But when people leave comments that are so far off the mark I do feel the need to step in for a quick reality check and recap of what the video actually contains.

      +Janek Gwizdala You just smoked that guy. ^ Nice video.

    • @MichaelSherrer
      @MichaelSherrer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Janek-what the fuck are you talking about with the "freedom of speech" BS? You are so wrapped up in yourself listen to me closely and try to follow. All I heard was you yammering about this and that-in minutia. For God's sake man, cut to the chase. You should be able to demonstrate sight reading -clearly!
      Sight read, explain, sight read-we don't care who shot John. And that goes for what you think are as- concepts. Janek you are no Jaco. He showed the real deal. You can't even find the deal.

    • @MichaelSherrer
      @MichaelSherrer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jordan Lombardo Oh, yes, Jordan- he smoked me. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

    • @j.lombardo
      @j.lombardo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Michael Sherrer demonstrate sight-reading? He is literally reading within the first 10 seconds of the video. If you need babied through the process of "this is a quarter note, this is a Bb, this is where it is on the fretboard, etc" you should probably find your information elsewhere.
