I think the AT-TE deserves better. Yeah the helmet prints are inaccurate, the holes look ugly when not filled, and the side build is scene inaccurate, but it should definitely be rated better than the Advent Calendar and Obi Wan vs Vader Edit: I DON’T HATE MandR. In fact, I watch his set reviews all the time. I’m just not a fan of some of his opinions, but I still respect and understand them

ATTE is the best set of the year in my opinion. I love the build and the commander Cody. I could care less about the troopers as I have plenty to fill it.
There were some super solid sets for sure... one of my favorite years for LEGO Star Wars since 2014 (that Rogue One wave being the best of all-time 🤤).
The Snowtroopers in the battle pack are meant to fill up the UCS AT-AT. That's why they have the waist capes printed on them so that they can sit in the chairs.
Doesn’t matter, the is 0 reason a physical accessory should ever be printed on, it’s easy to remove a physical item, you can’t remove an ugly print job
Now see I reckon LEGO missed a trick here. In 40558 they could have randomised which clone officer you got, ie. Green, Blue, Red, Yellow. This would have been AWESOME.
I think there absolutely needs to be a seperate rating for minifigs and builds, it would mean not running into these awkward situations where things like the AT-TE or UCS Gunship end up considerably lower on the list for having bad minifigs when they only make up for a fraction of the set, however it seems like the sets placements are almost dictated by minifigs
A set is the whole package. Unfortunately the AT-TE while being great and absolutely a set most people should/will buy has more shortcomings than any other set this year. Bar the ATST.

It must be said though that the minifigs take precedence over the build in a lot of these evalutions, for example the AT-TE gets a low spot from flaws in its minifig selections despite being as you say a great build, in contrast the Trash Compactor diorama has problems in the build that you cover, however it secures a much higher ranking spot because of its strong minifig selection, at least that seems to be what is communicated here. I think it can be made clearer to viewers what causes sets to land the ranking they are given, such as what makes for minor or major flaws and how it affects how you see the build.

I think a tierlist would have been better for the year. I know thats not what worst to first is but theres so many good and solid sets that on one day you might say this is better but change your mind the next day. Really awesome year (and video) non the less! Id give 2022 8/10.

That would also help you with minifig be set builds, as one with really good minifigs but eh set design or vic versa keeps it from being top tier aside from any exclusive or combination of good figs.
This is a solid ranking, but I agree with many other commenters that Ryan is tripping putting the AT-TE so low. His critiques of the set are absolutely valid, but I think it’s a great play set that also looks stellar on display. It’s also a wonderful refinement of the Lego AT-TE design and has many aspects that should be the gold standard for $100+ sets: an awesome interior, a plethora of figures, and good opposition to create an action scene with just one set. In my book those outweigh the issues with the helmets (which I think look just fine btw) and the lack of a crab droid. Respect Ryan’s opinion, just offering some points for discussion.
I think it could've been higher on the list, but I totally get the gripes. Personally, just because of the helmet holes I'd put the Fighter Tank above the AT-TE. They just look so off, it's hard to get past.
Fix the helmets: Top 5. Crab droid and Palpatine hologram. Top 2. It’s not often you have such a terrible quality and false advertising issue. It’s all-time bad for LEGO Star Wars in that department. You get 5 clones which look nice, while the problems with them aren't cool, I don't hate them because of it. Commander Cody is an amazing figure alone and saves this set from being where it should singlehandedly. You get a decent opposing side with an excellent Spider Droid build (no stud shooter makes it the best build imo). Also the Republic Fighter Tank is too low, the build is good even with it's minor flaws, you get perfect clone troopers and the best Mace Windu, and 2 flaws place it so low. The clone command center should be higher too. The Commander is a nice figure even with appearing in 3 sets, the clones don't look bad and the changes aren't that bad and you need to look very closely to see them. All 3 should be higher because they are good sets that don't deserve those rankings.
2022 is one of the best years for Lego Star Wars. The Inquisitor Ship, AT-TE, BD1, Cad Bane Justifier and other 2022 sets are really good sets, especially for something to look at and admire.
Over all this is a very accurate list, I would make one change though, The at-te should be a LOT higher on the list, I get that the helmets don't look good, but the rest of the set is just soooo good. (Okay, the spider droid was annoying though.)
If they get the helmets right, swap the crab droid, and drop a Palpatine Hologram in it’s a top 3 set. Easy. It’s unfortunate because these are simple things the designers could have done but chose not to. Like if they bring someone like me a “preview” version a year ahead these issues don’t make it to production. Just wild to me no one has the eye for the obvious in Denmark.
The reason why LEGO didn’t include back printing on R4, and did on R2 was because R2 was included in an OT set, and R4 was included in a prequel set. 🙄
@@crazydog1750 The Mando helmet did have some improvements to the Mando design. The Boba Fett helmet has NO curvature to it, whereas the Mando helmet uses ball joints to make the side panels stick out. Both designs need some work but Mando isn't a bad set and Boba Fett is not a great set.
I wanted it quite a bit before the show, but after watching it and realizing that it wasn't a Stormtrooper transport and just a Corpo transport I started wanting it less. Still an incredible ship, though. I think that if it came with some more Corpos it'd be a lot higher on my list.
I feel like this was a great year for Lego Star Wars. Prices are a different story....but the vast array of sets from different star wars themes....and the types of figs we got. Great year!!! (Having said this each set should have 1 or 2 more figs at least for the money you're spending)
The helmet holes are in the right spot for the visors. The other option is to put the visors and macrobinoculars below the eyes. Which would be stupid. Or to make like, 4 more molds, to make the helmets work, which would require getting rid of 4 other Star Wars molds, and kill customizability.

The fact the LEGO has made what, in universe, is a silver/chrome ship in normal light grey proves that they should be able to make a Queen's Royal Starship from Episode 1. Don't know why I've always liked that ship so much, but I would REALLY like to have it someday.
Episode 1 is not a popular film, therefore they wouldn't make enough back on sets based on that film, hence we we've only ever had remakes (MTT, AAT, Podracers and Mauls ship)
Something notable about the advent calendars: Whenever Hans designs them, he always makes sure to leave out the weapon racks, and this year is no exception! Very much agree with its high placement! Also note: R4 is a she ;)
I disagree with the AT-TE and personally I think it should be higher. But over all this was a great list and 2022 has been a pretty incredible year for LEGO Star Wars, so it must've been extremely hard to rank! Great work!
My prediction before watching is that top 5 consists of Inquisitor schyte, UCS Razor Crest, buildable BD-1, Mando Starfighter and At-Te, just dont know in which order. In my opinion this was probably the best year of Lego Star Wars in at least 5+ years, there were literally no bad sets, some were mediocre for sure, but like even the 4+ AT-ST is much better looking build than other sets of that type, and some sets like UCS Razor Crest and Inquisitor Schyte are all time greats.
I bet you were surprised to find the AT-TE closer to the bottom than the top 5 in this video 🤣. Personally I would've put it higher than he did, but I can understand his gripes with it.

Disagree on the Clone designs. Yes it's nice to have them all in the same style but they ruined it by making it such a bad style. (Weird hybrid of cartoon and movie style) The 2013 realistic style should have been the 'ubiquitous' design. It's way more accurate and better-looking, and it would've meant Clones from 9 years ago could be used with ones from today.

Lol I used to hate the Hoth AT-ST thinking it was supposed to be a normal AT-ST on Hoth, but then I realized it was a whole different vehicle and I liked it.
Crazy how a grey plate for $50 is ranked higher than the best ATTE build in history because of a small subjective "issue" in the helmets. Keep in mind, people who grow up with helmet holes will look back on them with happiness like how people look at the early 2000s helmets
This year for Lego Star Wars is realy great, my favorite sets are: At-te , Boba Fett throne room, clone minifigure pack, Inqsitor shuttle, The Justifier and Dark troopers attack.
I’ve only bought the N-1 Starfighter this year I agree with you on most of these sets so just find myself buying less as the prices go up and the pieces and figures are less than previous years, keep up the good work on your reviews your the only one that is truly honest!
25:15 If you are considering buying the Dagobah Training diorama, be prepared to place a little over 130 Lego studs in VERY specific spots, cuz that was a pain in the behind to build
To be honest,The Lego 2022 wave was pretty solid but there we're some issues with one of the sets I picked up (Being The Inquisitor Transport Scythe) The guns are pretty poorly made and fall off easily,But other than that there are amazing sets. One of my favorites have to be the AT-AT Walker,I was hoping for Phase 2 Cody for years and it was an amazing figure. I just hate the printing on the top of the helmets.
I haven't had any issues with the guns on the Inquisitor Scythe... I swoosh mine around all the time and play with it a bunch. I've actually been impressed by the guns on it and how stable they are.
For the first 2/3 of the year I didn’t really buy much Lego because I was more into marvel and the marvel wave of sets absolutely stunk, but recently I’ve been getting back in the more Star Wars stuff and this wave was absolutely epic!
The fact you put the obiwan vs Vader duel set above boba fetts throne room is a crime man. 50 dollars for that oversized baseplate is a straight up scam
I feel like I'm the ONLY one who doesn't mind the helmet holes. It's great for customization. I have put a spare antenna on the gunner in my AT-TE set. And I do have other antennas and sun visors of various colors laying around, so if I *want* to put an antenna or a sun visor on a clone because I'm on the spectrum and it's my dang toy, I can!

Ahh, yes. Of course the AT-TE, one of the best sets of the Summer wave, is ranked so low because of the minifigures. Like, the helmet holes and what not aren’t even an issue for most people. smh. I’d easily consider the set the third best set of the year in my opinion.
I personally find the Trench Run much better than other dioramas. It's very dynamic and detailed, the colours and composition are great. It's really aesthetically pleasing and the great for display. I would definitely like to see more diorama sets that don't contain minifigures.
19:16 for this set I had a lot of trouble getting the yellow rods to connect and it kept falling apart; I spent ~2 hrs but eventually gave up. Besides that, I do believe it is one of the best helmets this year

Actually, those are the canon 187th Troopers. The RFT set canonized them. There’s a 187th Legion and 187th Battalion. The purple ones are the legion and the Burgundy ones are the battalion

🤣🤣🤣 Those itches are getting more intense by the year. We haven't seen a Republic fighter since 2014 (excluding Jedi fighters). I need something to fill that gap in my collection!
For the at-te walker, I do still like the 212th troopers, but for display I filled mine out with phase 1 troopers and the phase 1 commander from the clone trooper command station. Makes for more of an episode 2 or clone wars look.
I don't personally agree with the placement of the AT-TE, however I understand it. The helmet holes cannot be excused for a company who touts "only the best is good enough". However it was good to get the right color for the 212th troopers as opposed to yellow in the Umbarian heavy cannon.
Nothing stops the Empire from sending probe droids to Tatooine, per se, but i agree fully that if a set is attempting to provide a movie-accurate scene then it should match that scene appropriately. Boo Spider droid :P

The helmet holes are in the right spot for the visors. The other option is to put the visors and macrobinoculars below the eyes. Which would be stupid. Or to make like, 4 more molds, to make the helmets work, which would require getting rid of 4 other Star Wars molds, and kill customizability.

The fact the LEGO has made what, in universe, is a silver/chrome ship in normal light grey proves that they should be able to make a Queen's Royal Starship from Episode 1.
Don't know why I've always liked that ship so much, but I would REALLY like to have it someday.

Episode 1 is not a popular film, therefore they wouldn't make enough back on sets based on that film, hence we we've only ever had remakes (MTT, AAT, Podracers and Mauls ship)
Something notable about the advent calendars: Whenever Hans designs them, he always makes sure to leave out the weapon racks, and this year is no exception! Very much agree with its high placement!

I disagree with the AT-TE and personally I think it should be higher. But over all this was a great list and 2022 has been a pretty incredible year for LEGO Star Wars, so it must've been extremely hard to rank! Great work!

My prediction before watching is that top 5 consists of Inquisitor schyte, UCS Razor Crest, buildable BD-1, Mando Starfighter and At-Te, just dont know in which order. In my opinion this was probably the best year of Lego Star Wars in at least 5+ years, there were literally no bad sets, some were mediocre for sure, but like even the 4+ AT-ST is much better looking build than other sets of that type, and some sets like UCS Razor Crest and Inquisitor Schyte are all time greats.
I bet you were surprised to find the AT-TE closer to the bottom than the top 5 in this video 🤣. Personally I would've put it higher than he did, but I can understand his gripes with it.

I still have nostalgia and hype goggles on for that at-te set, but totally get the drawbacks of the helmets and spider droid. however I’m happy that they are making a lot of effort to make clone designs ubiquitous so that they can make more

The 2013 realistic style should have been the 'ubiquitous' design. It's way more accurate and better-looking, and it would've meant Clones from 9 years ago could be used with ones from today.

Lol I used to hate the Hoth AT-ST thinking it was supposed to be a normal AT-ST on Hoth, but then I realized it was a whole different vehicle and I liked it.
Crazy how a grey plate for $50 is ranked higher than the best ATTE build in history because of a small subjective "issue" in the helmets. Keep in mind, people who grow up with helmet holes will look back on them with happiness like how people look at the early 2000s helmets
This year for Lego Star Wars is realy great, my favorite sets are: At-te , Boba Fett throne room, clone minifigure pack, Inqsitor shuttle, The Justifier and Dark troopers attack.
People mostly like the new at te because it has a commander cody

I love the fighter tank, quick to make, nice clones and the baby bump is barely noticeable.
I’ve only bought the N-1 Starfighter this year I agree with you on most of these sets so just find myself buying less as the prices go up and the pieces and figures are less than previous years, keep up the good work on your reviews your the only one that is truly honest!

To be honest,The Lego 2022 wave was pretty solid but there we're some issues with one of the sets I picked up (Being The Inquisitor Transport Scythe) The guns are pretty poorly made and fall off easily,But other than that there are amazing sets. One of my favorites have to be the AT-AT Walker,I was hoping for Phase 2 Cody for years and it was an amazing figure. I just hate the printing on the top of the helmets.
I haven't had any issues with the guns on the Inquisitor Scythe... I swoosh mine around all the time and play with it a bunch. I've actually been impressed by the guns on it and how stable they are.

For the first 2/3 of the year I didn’t really buy much Lego because I was more into marvel and the marvel wave of sets absolutely stunk, but recently I’ve been getting back in the more Star Wars stuff and this wave was absolutely epic!

I feel like I'm the ONLY one who doesn't mind the helmet holes. It's great for customization. I have put a spare antenna on the gunner in my AT-TE set. And I do have other antennas and sun visors of various colors laying around, so if I *want* to put an antenna or a sun visor on a clone because I'm on the spectrum and it's my dang toy, I can!

Also the attachments don’t even look good with the helmet holes as the visor is was too big and doesn’t work with the phase 2 helmet and the antenna is comically high up on the helmet so it looks ridiculous

Ahh, yes. Of course the AT-TE, one of the best sets of the Summer wave, is ranked so low because of the minifigures. Like, the helmet holes and what not aren’t even an issue for most people. smh.
I’d easily consider the set the third best set of the year in my opinion.
I personally find the Trench Run much better than other dioramas. It's very dynamic and detailed, the colours and composition are great. It's really aesthetically pleasing and the great for display. I would definitely like to see more diorama sets that don't contain minifigures.
19:16 for this set I had a lot of trouble getting the yellow rods to connect and it kept falling apart; I spent ~2 hrs but eventually gave up. Besides that, I do believe it is one of the best helmets this year
I agree , I did get my helmet built but the yellow rods were very frustrating.

Actually, those are the canon 187th Troopers. The RFT set canonized them. There’s a 187th Legion and 187th Battalion. The purple ones are the legion and the Burgundy ones are the battalion

For the at-te walker, I do still like the 212th troopers, but for display I filled mine out with phase 1 troopers and the phase 1 commander from the clone trooper command station. Makes for more of an episode 2 or clone wars look.

I don't personally agree with the placement of the AT-TE, however I understand it. The helmet holes cannot be excused for a company who touts "only the best is good enough". However it was good to get the right color for the 212th troopers as opposed to yellow in the Umbarian heavy cannon.

Nothing stops the Empire from sending probe droids to Tatooine, per se, but i agree fully that if a set is attempting to provide a movie-accurate scene then it should match that scene appropriately.
