1.Pranayama is the 4th limb in Ashtanga Yoga.
    2.Prana + Ayama = Pranayama.
    3.Pra+ na =prana.
    4.Pra means constant .
5.Na (pronounced as in pranaNAvam) means moving.
    6.So Prana means constantly moving.
    7.Ayama means extending the dimention.
8.Here in Ashtanga yoga the word Prana is used for Breathing.
9.So Pranayama means extending the dimention of Breathing.
10.By practicing Pranayama we derive much more benefits over and above normal shallow breathing.

The normal order of Anulom Viloma is: 1. inhale through left nostril, 2. exhale right nostril, 3. inhale right nostril, 4. exhale left nostril. These four steps make a round !

1.Anuloma Viloma is alternate breathing, which has two aspects of pooraka(inhalation) and rechaka(exhalation),with 1:2 proporrion and which has no contra indications.
    2.Nadisodana pranayama has
three aspects Pooraka,Kumbhaka(retention) and rechaka with 1:4:2 proportion with spcific contra indications like heart disease, advaced degerative lung diseasa, hernias snd prolapses.
3.Anuloma viloma balances the hemisperes where as Nadisodana in addition to balancing, duriing kubhaka enhances cerebral micro vascularity.
4.Right nostril breathing Soorya nadi for physical, and left nostril breathing chandra nadi for mental strength enhancement.
5.Rt.nostril breathing stimulates sympathetic and Lt.nostril breathing stimulates para sympathetic.

What is the specific contra indications like hernia ? That means who has hernia or prilapse should not try nadisodana?

    • @dratmadev

Yes Because, kumbhaka increases the intra abdominal pressure, which will worsen the condition.

    Respected, Dr Sweta Adatia
Thank you for your fascinating work in exploring the human brain through advanced neuroimaging techniques. I have a humble request: could you consider studying the brain activity of a devout Muslim, particularly someone from the Shia sect known for their deep spiritual practices and piety? I believe this could provide unique insights into the effects of faith and spirituality on the human mind. Your findings might be groundbreaking, and I would be excited to see your perspective on this. Thank you for considering this idea.

I got hit by a leather ball on my nose in cricket in 2021. It started bleeding really bad. After that I did not go to hospital and rested in home till it healed. The nasal cartilage became very thick on my right nostril. Gradually the right nostril breathing reduced. My digestion became slow, I started relaxing too much. I was a martial arts trainer, later I left my practice also.

How can one change his mood to be positive and uplifted for most of the day? Give some neuroscience tools to program the subconscious with a positive uplifting state as a default settings.

When you talk about "Pranayama" through which "Ida" and "Pingala" get revitalized whereas "Sympathetic" and "Parasympathetic" nerves are not exactly the same as "Ida" and "Pingala" are in terms of their concept and respective functions - they are vital energy centers (Chakra) that feed left and right side of the brain through "Sushumna" (Spinal chord). If I were you I would not have come into public domain with less than adequate and in depth knowledge on the subject matter.

4:56 keep your little finger closer to your ring finger for the perfect mudra, otherwise its hard to digest that you have been practising it for a while .
    2. you have mentioned that there are no contraindiactions thats not true there are immense reference for that in patanjali yoga sutra in the form of sanskrit slogas .
    3. You mentined the ratio for inhaling and exhaling 1:2 , very important part you missed is ratio is not between inhaling and exhaling alone but inhaling :holding:exhaling eg 4:16:8
4.plus the tortoise longevity is not alone breathing but multifactorical but we tailor it according to our convenience .
Anyways good video as you try to bring in ancient wisdom which most evidence based medicine wont do.Kudos for that and improve proof reading of content

I get anxiety attack* after doing anulom vilom so definitely it will not calm the nervous system. What’s your response on it , doctor ?

Baseline is important. What is your state like. How are you doing it. Are you using the correct proportions. Some can feel dizzy but anxiety attack we don't see. Check the technique properly
