    Brompton folding bikes! We are very excited to carry one of the best folding bikes. Bromptons are incredible. They fold up to the size of a suitcase and are portable enough to be brought on airplanes, commuter trains, buses, or stowed on boats. They make great commuter bicycles and even better travel bicycles. The Brompton frame is an incredible hand made work of art. It's actually brazed together in the tradition of classic handmade steel bicycles in a factory just outside of London in the UK.

      Creation Adorer after looking at Brompton for well over 10 years, I finally bought one. I should have bought one years ago. It’s saving me time (waiting for busses, underground, searching for parking places, traffic jams etc) it’s saving me money (bus fares, parking taxes, fines) and it’s fun and healthy. It feels liberating! And when you don’t want to cycle, you can take a bus, train, put it in the boot of a car etc etc.
      But I did just what you proposed, I bought a demo model. Or is 4 years old and cost me as much as a brand new basic model, but I got a titanium with everything I wanted, the M6R-X, in racing green. It really was brand new, not a scratch or a nick, everything really shiny and new!
      Oh and Bikes+Life, thanks for the superb videos! It helped me a lot deciding to buy one!

      +Ciro Di Rosa you can't go wrong with a Brompton - such a great bike. I had only easy wheels on my bike for years and it's good enough. I finally put the rack on and did notice its easier. Still, I don't roll it so much when folded. Sure people swear by that rack though. Thanks for your comment! -Peter

    Thank you greatly Peter! Looking forward for warmer weather here in Toronto to enjoy my B. I kind of roll my Brompton more than I want to as I find my cheaper Folding Basket choice begs to stay connected than carried. I wish I had put a bit more $$$ for a luggage option much more carry friendly as I find carrying more practical.
    Cheers!
    Ciro Di Rosa

    • @Bikesandlife
      @Bikesandlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ciro Di Rosa cool. What you can do is buy a generic luggage shoulder strap from a luggage store. Pick one with big clips at the ends. Then you can clip that right to the aluminum tubing inside the basket. That will allow you to carry it on your shoulder conveniently. Hope that helps and have fun! I'm in San Francisco right now. Flew in with my Brompton as a carry on. So great. -Peter

    The Brompton bike is one that I have had a number of times. An excellent commuter and more. I know it has achieved an iconic status with its size and shape but I do feel there is a market for a marginally bigger Brompton, made with the same features but bigger wheels. I hope, at some point Brompton makes that move... Another nice, crisp video!

    • @Bikesandlife
      @Bikesandlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny enough that's actually an idea they'd been playing with years ago. Instead they decided to keep their focus right on one frame sand tune it to perfection. Would be cool to see a large wheel Brompton though. Thanks for the interesting comment! -Peter

    • @subspaceanomaly
      @subspaceanomaly 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      now that their patent has expired it would be pretty easy to make one/have one made. Just pick your wheel size (I guess the slightly oversized 20" ones would be a good choice) and just measure an original brompton and just scale everything up 15-20%. I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible to keep the weight basically the same. Having said that there are a lot of brompton style folders being made in asia now so maybe one of those would fit the bill.

    My old Brompton a red main frame with black extremities and I guess there was no titanium option t that time . The other one is a 2002 short wheel base in black and SRAM 3 speed . great video, Peter. Glad to see again.
    I owned one Brompton after watching all your video before (Dec 2015). My Brompton S3E white black. In 4 months, I have ridden almost 500km here in Malaysia (glad I manage to do that with the Brompton)
    Actually, I have a few question
    1) what is your recommendation for me to upgrade my bike, in the way to reduce the weight of the bike as well as to increase the speed of the bike. Well, I hope I can get your personal advice since you are the top three BWC USA September last year (congratulation!!). What you have done for your bike to get that fast!!
    2) Can I add mudguard in my E version Brompton bike?
    Thank you Peter!

    • @Bikesandlife
      @Bikesandlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +syafiq syafiq Very cool that you have the S3E - that must be a beautiful Brompton! To reduce weight I would look first at a lightweight seatpost, that's the biggest weight savings. Also Kojak tires are very light - the the folding ones if you can. My own Brompton has too many modifications to list! You can add mudguards to your Brompton, check with your local dealer and remember the fenders now come in black, white, and silver! Have fun! -Peter

    • @jjkennedy1976
      @jjkennedy1976 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Peter, the ride will include both camping and hotels. Although, I do prefer hotels more than camping. I should be averaging about 60 miles a day. So, the pace is not fast. I like to slow down, this is not a race against time. Just a leisurely ride across America, through some of the most beautiful places in the states. The ride will be going through Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California. :)

    I'm considering a folding bike I think I'd love the compact fold of the Brompton - and the charm! However, I can get a Tern Verge P9 for about 60% of the price, which looks like great value. There's quite a decent climb to be undertaken on my commute, with a train ride at the end. I haven't looked at these bikes yet, I will try to soon... but what are your thoughts on which to choose? Thanks.

    Awesome video! It's just a pity is not electric. If it was, it would be so perfect to me :) I am planning to get an e-bike for commuting from SF to the bay area, and I need to get on a train in between, so a folding bike is perfect. Problem is, SF has some steep streets, so for those hills I need some help, and an electric bike would be important at those moments.

    Hi ,, just a quick question. I had day test ride on a Brompton from my local store . Really impressed with it , minus 1 thing the vibration you seem to get from the brake and gear cables on the frame . Is this something that other Brompton uses have experienced

    Great video. I guess there's no way of knowing yet with the new Brompton's. But if I buy one, I want it to last many years. I'm just wondering about the durability/longevity of any folding bikes. Anyone with any knowledge?

    Peter, I have a Fuji Sunfire 2.0 and a Papillionaire with a ebike conversion kit by Solarbike in Perth WA. I have test ridden a Brompton H6L. Price is the problem, so also looking at Tern Node D8

    • @Bikesandlife
      @Bikesandlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Philip Gestier Got it. Wow Papillionaire is a beauty. It must be a lot of fun with that ebike conversion. What is the main purpose of a folding bike for you? Depending on what you're going to do with it you may be better suited for one type of bike versus another. I'd be happy to guide you to the right bike, or bikes, and then we can figure out how to fit that into your budget. Feel free to send a private message or if you're happy to post publicly I'm sure lots of folks have similar questions. -Peter

    I regret so much for not getting the bromton. I got another folding bike that cost like 1/6 of a bromton. It got bigger wheels but folds much bigger, like double the size of a bromton. I wanted to save money :( One day I will sell my 2 bikes and get a bromton I think. My bike rides well and it works as a bike but the folding needs some work.

      You're faster than a Bronton and go up hills easier. Always a positive to things. But yeah if you wanted a folding bike I gather portability is a need.

    Hi Peter, thanks for posting your collection of Brompton Bike videos online. You have inspired me to purchase one of my very own! I love everything about it. But, I can't seem to adjust the saddle so it stays in one position while riding the bike. It tilts back and forth constantly. I thought tightening the bolt may do the trick, but had no luck. I have the Pentaclip on the regular Brompton saddle--is there something wrong? I figured I would ask you since you are so knowledgeable, and your response is really appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks Peter. I am retired and looking for a folding bike that will fit in a Forester and take on a train into Brisbane (50kms). Ride on formed and paved bike trails. Brisbane has lots of hills but bike trails along the river are flat. Same with beaches which are not far from my home. I am 5'10", age 60 and about 138lbs. I like the Brompton but not sure about small wheels dealing with our bumpy bike paths and rds. What is your view on Tern Node D8 as an option?

    • @GrumpyStan
      @GrumpyStan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Philip Gestier I'm retired too and love my Brompton M3L. The small wheels do make the bumps seem worse than large wheels, but it's a small price to pay for the enjoyment and practicability that comes with a Brompton.

    • @Philip29G
      @Philip29G 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Peter, I was wondering if you can do a review on saddles. I have placed a Brooks B17 saddle on my Brompton and plan to simply ride it to break it in. I'm looking forward to get your view point of the Brooks saddle with the Brompton which I cannot find anywhere online. Possibly, a summary on the inclination and the break-in process? Cheers!

    • @Bikesandlife

      Hi Ciro, that's a good point. Doing a video on saddles would be cool. I'll put that into the mix. I love my Brooks and have put many thousands of miles on it over the years. It's still going strong after 6 years and I expect it to last a lifetime. Looks better than ever too!! Thanks for your comment and for being part of our channel! -Peter

  • @ReflexionesMoteras

    I found the steering a bit unstable due to the narrow handle bars and small front wheels. But I guess this is something you have to get used to.

    • @Bikesandlife
      @Bikesandlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a common first ride impression - especially for folks used to full size wheel bikes. What I've found is that after a few days or a few rides you get totally accustomed to the steering being "quicker" and even look forward to a more "nimble" bike. What are you riding for a bike most of the time? Cheers! -Peter

    hi peter. nice to see you again. one question , can brompton hold and support total araund 200 lbs ?or around 100 kgs 😊

    • @Bikesandlife
      @Bikesandlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. The Brompton has a total weight capacity of 242 lbs including whatever you carry with you. I've sold Bromptons to many folks around 200 lbs and they are very happy with the bike. Two recommendations: get the firm suspension and pump your tires all the way to the recommended pressure. That will keep you comfortable and safe while riding. Cheers! -Peter

    Wonderful to see you making videos again Peter! Thinking about investing in a Bromt for new commute, but it's mainly through a park with a couple hills so not sure if a full-sized would be more sensible... But the Bt is just so beautiful!

      Thanks so much DB! We are very excited to keep bringing the best information, excitement, and inspiration to all our viewers. I think that you'd end up using the folding feature of the Brompton more than you think. After I bought folding bikes for my parents (both big time bikers themselves) they actually started using those more than their full size bikes. A Brompton is actually so comfortable and easy to ride that you really fall in love with it. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions about Bromptons! -Peter
