When I started my channel, I did some videos on my Hebe's which I took as cuttings in 2017/18. Today I still have four large Hebe's on my main garden patch doing very well.

Hi James, I checked out your channel! Seems we have very similar plant interests! I've subbed! I'd like to see more of your Hebe plants in full bloom. Also, what plant is in the thumbnail that you used for your June 2020 video? I couldn't see it in the actual video?

@@PrentisHancock1 I had some good video of the Hebe's in spring-summer 2018. June does seem to be the month the Hebe's bloom best, I think I used that thumbnail as it was the highlight of the garden. I was a bit pepper mad in 2020, I know 2018/19 were good, I'll try and get some more of the other plants in the future.

@@PrentisHancock1 I had a look through my videos for Hebe's. I had lots of cuttings in June 2018 of them th-cam.com/video/JIPbxR-ASpE/w-d-xo.html I planted them in various places in the garden but only the four I planted in my main garden by the path I still have today. The others seemed to die of some unknown illness except those four. I have taken more cuttings from them so I don't lose them.

Hi James, Great! I just watched it and left a detailed comment. Good little tour.

@@PrentisHancock1 Hi, I made a new Hebe video a few days ago which shows these cuttings on their journey into big shrubs. The white Buddleia, Hydrangea and Spirea cuttings I took in 2017/18 are also in there. Your Globosa buddleia looks great, I got a cutting from a Globosa in March 2016 but it hasn't done well for me, I will try harder to feed it better this year. It flowers nicely in about May in my videos with the yellow balls which the honeybees love :)

Very interesting sir. Thank you. I have just tried (and failed!)to grow some hebe cuttings so I was thinking of having a go at air rooting in the hope that my "failed pile" does not grow bigger than the original hebe!

Hi George, thanks for the comment. I found Hebe cuttings very difficult to propagate too and it took me more than a couple of attempts to get any to work. This air layering method works much better and was one of the three reasons I was referring to in the video - that some plants are harder to propagate by other methods, such as cuttings. By the way, it's been about a month since I potted these up, and they are now flying with tons of new branches and leaves, just as I had hoped for at the end of the video. Good luck.

@@PrentisHancock1 Thank you sir. The latest handful have been put in the pot and given a stiff "talking to" about performing so we will see.

@@PrentisHancock1 Hello again sir. I have just watched your video again and I wondered if you had made any more videos please?
Meanwhile, for one reason or another I have not yet tried air layering but planted a few more cuttings to see what happens.
The parent plant is humming with bees and butterflies so at least they are kept happy and well fed.
Incidentally and without wanting to tempt fate I planted some Rosemary cuttings and the one planted (?!l) in water has actually grown roots so I have now added a bit of compost to the water to feed it as I read that if you take them straight from water to compost they can die! I didn't realise that plants can be so awkward, like spoilt children!
      Blessings and peace

Hi George, great to hear from you again. The best mindset to have is to approach from a perspective of abundance, subject to the amount of space you have available. From a Rosemary, you can take lots of cuttings, pretty much all year round. Don't be afraid to put some cuttings straight into compost. Just do some. Some will work, and a few might not. Plants, especially herbs, root quite easily, even in water. I don't even use compost - I just use ordinary garden soil - and that works just fine.
I've been taking a bit of a break from my gardening videos and doing more of my running videos but I will be doing more of both in the coming months, including propagating from cuttings, so stay tuned.
      Best wishes.

@@PrentisHancock1 Thank you. I look forward to seeing your gardening videos.
I don't know where in the world you are but here in UK we are having a rare heatwave "treat" so I expect that running is not an option for anyone for a while. Digging a large hole in a shady spot and jumping in it would be a better idea I imagine.
      Blessings and peace sir.

A little disappointed with this video as it’s called how to air layer a hebe plant.! The video shows the plant after it has been propagated. Not how to.

I'm sorry you were disappointed, Pam. The how-to part was largely in my verbal description early on; the "secret sauce" for London and anywhere else at 50 degrees north latitude is you need to give it about a year for the roots to form well enough. It's nothing too special about air layering - taking a plastic bottle and cutting it in half lengthwise, and then taping it back up around a branch and then filling it with soil and then wetting and sealing it. What was spectacular about this one was the density of the roots, which was why I decided to make the video. If you watch my Lemon tree video, you'll see I was attempting to air layer that as well. Well, that has taken two years, and I separated it only a few weeks ago and it seems to be working too, though I won't be making a video about this just yet.
I try to make videos covering topics others haven't done. I hope you'll come back again? Kind regards, Prentis.
