5Ibm8mjSek (Anti-)Thanksgiving series (2 of 7) I’ve been following Bay Area thrash metal great Testament for about 25 years now, and they rarely disappoint. They started in the early 80s at about the same time and place as the other greats (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, etc.), but member turmoil and turnover kept them a step behind until their resurgence with this track’s album, 2012’s “Dark Roots of Earth” (the band’s eleventh). Songwriter and vocalist (and Pomo Native American) Chuck Billy has been on all their albums.

for me they are: when I think of apocalyptic city, the ballad or this song, there are not many bands out there that can match up with that kind of energy. When their first album came out I was astonished and though I don`t hear them nearly enough nowadays I still love them and the ballad is one of the few songs I could hear dayin and dayout...
I LOVE you guys doing this song. I was born and raised in Muskogee Oklahoma. Grew up with so many native Americans. Any song honoring them has a special place in my heart. Testament is absolutely amazing. Been listening yo to them since 1988. Maybe someday you guys will do Trail of Tears. One of my favorites by them. Thanks guys!
Thanks for the upload. I love Testament, my favorite thrash band. First song I heard by them was "Trial by Fire", and I, like many were then hooked, as they provided great thrash metal as good as the "Big Four".

In terms of Thrash Singers Chuck Billy is my all time favorite! Guy just has a great voice for this Genre.

Actually the way finger movement works in the brain is that the brain is sent a signal to move ALL the fingers at the same time. Your brain has to ignore all but however many you are going to use in that moment. So with the Pinky playing a note the brain has to ignore 4 of the 5 signals in that fraction of a second to make that happen. It's actually extremely fascinating and makes music that much more insane when you think about it because you just assume it's all muscle memory and the hands are on autopilot more or less, but it's really not.
Your brain is telling you how to hold the instrument and calculating it's weight (or if you're playing drums the distance everything is from your hands), remembering the notes and how it's counted/how fast it is and played in what specific style, while shutting off input to certain fingers so other can move to a specific spot in fractions of seconds hundreds to thousands of times in a song or over a show all at the same time. The human brain is bananas!
