    There's an old saying: "Metallica invented Thrash. Megadeth brought in the technical precision. Slayer brought in the heavy, evil vibe. Anthrax made it fun! Testament took ALL of it and perfected it."

      Since when did metallica invent thrash? Venom did way before them. Also Mustaine wrote half of the first two (and best) Metallica albums including the songs For whom the bell tolls, ride the lightning, leper messiah, phantom lord, jump in the fire, metal militia and so on, so if you really wanna talk about it, Dave gets the credit twice as much

      Exodus and Testament were knee deep in Thrash by the time Metallica came around. Cliff was the only reason they were accepted by the Thrash community which was born in the bay area. Metallica and Slayer were Bay Area transplants. The Thrash movement was started by Exodus, Possessed and a few other Bay Area bands. Big 4 my ass, should be the big 6 or 7! Kirk Hammett never recorded music with Exodus. Lars and Kirk had planned on pushing Dave out and to then control the narrative back home by telling the entire scene Dave was fired before Dave's bus ride brought him home, all so that when Dave got home, nobody would believe him. Fucking pricks. Kirk isn't even 1/2 the player Dave is.

    Alex Skolnick is criminally underrated and doesn’t get the credit her deserves. His legato licks are disgustingly good

    My favorite Testament song, so damn cool -- including the lyrics. Yes, that chorus...it's resonated with me throughout my entire life ever since hearing this song when it came out in '92.
    As I wander, change of seasons
    I can't ponder, got my reasons
    As I realise I don't care
    All I know is that I'll soon be there

    Testament are the S**t - great riffs, solos, Chuck's unforgettable and unique vocal style, they were set apart from the pack. Instead of a big four it ought to be a big Eight - Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, but also Testament, Exodus, Death Angel, and Overkill. The last four didn't make as big of a splash as the first four but they deserve credit for keeping the Thrash flag flying for as long as they have and for consistent quality in their releases - Death Angel "Act III" or "Relentless Retribution", Testament "The Gathering" or any of the records they put out after Skolnick joined back up, Exodus "Tempo of the Damned", Overkill "The Electric Age"...all worth checking.

    Testaments was first introduced when they opened for Anthrax in 1987. I saw them in 1987 at Sanger Theater in Pensacola Florida. Sanger Theater is the theater that Stevie Ray Vaughan recorded his last video in before his death

      A mediados de los 80s estás bandas estaban consideradas y valoradas al mismo nivel que los big4 junto con Violence.

    How have y'all not heard of Testament? Like the suggestor said, Testament came into the scene a little too late to make the Big 4, but in all intensive purposes, the 80s American Thrash group should have been the Big 7. Because Exodus, OverKill, and Testament were just as good and popular as the actual Big 4 of Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. See, those 4 bands, with the exception of Megadeth, debuted in 1983. Megadeth in 1985. But then Exodus and OverKill debuted in 1985 as well, and then Testament in 1987. But by then, each of the Big 4 had three albums out, including Megadeth. But Like I said at first, if you really want to encompass and grasp what the 80s Thrash Metal scene was like, these are the 7 bands us 80s kids loved. However, there was another Big 4...in Germany, called the Tuetonic Big 4, which consisted of Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, and Tankard. The first three are straight up heavy and fast Thrash with harsh vocals, while Tankard was more of a humorous style Thrash, and they had a recurring theme of drinking beer in their songs. I think Tankard means beer mug in Germany. I could be wrong though. But anyway, getting back to Testament...they've got a extensive discography. They did break up in the late 90s after releasing their 99 album, The Gathering, but they came back for the Thrash Revival in 2007-ish and released a new album in 2008, and have been putting out new albums every couple, three years now. Their latest one is awesome. Probably their best since the hiatus comeback. Really good sound mix, with a good punchy bass. Pretty bad ass stuff. They mentioned Chuck Billy's voice...it has varied greatly across the many different albums. In the early days, it was pretty clean and easy to understand, but by '97s "Demonic" he went full Death Metal growl for it. But in subsequent albums, it's more along the lines as to what you heard here in this video. And speaking of which this song is 30 years old, from '92's "Legacy" album. How crazy is that? See, that's what I love about Metal. You can take a song from 35 or even 40 years ago, play it live now, and it sounds fresh. Can't do that with Pop, or any other genre...you can pretty much date which songs came out of what decade. Metal is a practically timeless genre now.

    It should have been the big 5 because Testament is just as good a band as any of the other 4 and I personally believe that they are better than Anthrax but Anthrax is very good friends with the guys in Metallica they got their start together

    • @ArchieArpeggio
      @ArchieArpeggio ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthrax is actualy friends with all those bands including Testament (and many others as well). The thing why big four is what it is that they were the pioners and all sucseeded well, They were called big four already at 80s. So that is the reason why those bands made the big four tour. Testament came to the scene about two years later and after Eric Petterson "stole" Kirk Hammets wife. They haven´t been so egar to do anything with whit Testament. Kirk propably was little pissed of for that reason 😂. Maybe some day... Even Mustaine and Metallica have buried hatchets long ago and are friends again. You´ll neever know.

    Lead guitar player Alex Skolnick is one of the baddest players in all of metal and has been since the 80s -- y'all lost it for his solo, rightfully so, which means you probably won't be surprised to learn that Joe Satriani had been his guitar teacher back in the day
