When you thought it couldn't get any better, it does! These 2 videos, I got to say, by far, are the best you have produced. My hat is off to you and your four legged partners. They are the best, also!! You record, I'll watch um. I' m livin' vicariously through your hunts. Two thumbs up..
The video doesn't do the terrain justice until you see those rocks rolling down the hill in front of you. Whoa. Great hunt and even better dog work. Those retrieves were outstanding. 👍
they call that revenge when you get the chance to "ground swat" them!!! LOL I was thinking the entire time I wouldn't mind going down the hill BUT going back up that is going to suck with a capital S!!!! looks like you had a great camp spot & a beautiful view to wake up to every morning.. with the added bonus of a few birds too... thanks for sharing with us!!
I grew up on hells canyon hunting chukar hunting even loosing my cousin at 40 to a heart attack 2 years ago while hunting on the idaho side. Your approach to this bird is very good along with the dog work. I have some pointers on better success for more birds in the bag if you're inclined
Eric, once again, part two was just as good as part one. Fun hunting for sure. I've hunted them in the snow before too. I prefer the dry because of where those little goats fly into. I hunt with a buddy or two and early morning you can pin point them by listening to them talk. I use binos all the time. Size them up really well with this method. Fun times
I am getting a gsp pup next week and I just found your channel. I love the bond u have with your dogs and I can't wait to start working with my pup ! Keep it up man. Badass rigs too
Dude, you know that place is special to me. Your videos do a really good job showing the terrain and challenges. You have inspired me to film my hunts. I good a camera yesterday, looking forward to trying it out this weekend.
That is some crazy-ass country to bird hunt in. The first time I did it, I was a little overly zealous, and chased the birds downhill. All my toes turned black and blue and the nails fell off. Steep. But we got em. Both chukars and huns, and that was with a lab. Love to go back now with my Gordon Setter. Maybe on my "tour of the west" I have planned for next fall. I would have swatted that chukar too... if you can sneak up on one on a cliff, more power to ya. Glad to hear your pup was ok. Mine had a similar injury this fall up in AK hunting grouse in the devils club.Interesting video that reminds me of parts of my mountain goat hunt.
Great couple videos showing the reality of what it takes to put a few partridge in the bag and i'm glad you were able to enjoy a slice of public land that these birds thrive in. The prairie of NE MT/NW ND will always have a special place in my soul but the feeling of being able to roam thousands of acres that we all own is a special gift that will truly humble a person. Curious how your dogs pads did in that terrain? I have to boot mine to avoid down time. Thanks for making this so I can enjoy some bird hunting during lockdown in WA.
Couldn’t agree more Bill. I love wandering our public lands and we are so fortunate to have them! There’s nothing better than pursuing wild birds in natural habitat on land we all own with a couple good bird dogs. It’s a pure experience and I love it. The dogs fared well. They have tough, tight feet naturally but I also try to keep them conditioned so they can keep hunting. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your thoughtful comments!
You’re one tough dude! No criticism here about whacking a chukar on the rocks; I’ve done it and will hopefully do it again. There are places not as rough to hunt but usually hold fewer chukar. You definitely got the game figured out quick! It is also easier without the snow.
I love to hunt quail and grouse Eric but that’s one place I would not have gone even in my twenties, man that place was a bad accident just waiting to happen, you are one tough guy.
I use to drive through there on my way to fish for Steelhead, beautiful area!! I always thought about a cast and blast trip, but that is some tough terrain, not sure I could do it anymore.
Beautiful is right! The terrain I was in was definitely tough but there are areas that aren’t so tough that still have birds. I’m not much of a fisherman but catching steelhead up there would be awesome!
Eric Forrester watched one of your Nebraska sharptail hunts. Going out in October to try that. I have access to a lot of land out there I deer hunt on. It never grouse hunted. Always see a lot so looking forward to it.
Nice hunt . and your dogs did great, and I´ll just bet you thinned down the seat of your pants on all that snow and slippery ice and rocks. Seemed like you had a great time!
Nice job on your film. The quality of the video, the editing ,and voice over was very well done. Please consider keeping the locations of your adventures confidential.
Thanks for sharing your hunt Eric. And dude, you are in shape!! What did you say, 8 miles and 3000 feet! Great job. For people who haven't tried that, they have no idea. Hunting alone is great, but do you carry some kind of personal emergency beacon? I do when I hit these remote places. Too easy to bust a leg and it gives me a peace of mind. And yeah, I have tree sluiced a few Blue Grouse after working so dang hard and they don't "cooperate" with the dog and me. Love your hunting style and love of the sport! Thanks 👍
Hi Eric, I really have enjoyed both videos and definitely answered a few of my questions on a possible Chuckar hunt I’m taking this year. I did want to ask you what area you were in to help point me in the right direction. Thanks,
Glad to hear you are planning a trip, I highly recommend it! I don’t want to get into specific areas online but if you want to contact me I’d be happy to give you some more details. Ghostpointwirehairs.com or Ghost Point Wirehairs on Facebook. Good luck!
You’d have loved the 4 great dogs ( Weimaraner, Large Munsterlander, GWP and Pudelpointer) I hunted Chukar over for 40 years . They hunted much closer than your Tubby.
Thanks Phil! I shoot a 12ga. 1300fps #6’s. Improved cylinder choke which was too open for this hunt but I forgot my chokes at home so I was stuck with it.
Eric, do you carry a personal EPIRB in your vest while hunting by yourself? I do, and if I ever become injured and can’t walk out (or call 911 because there is no cell service!), I can pull it out and fire it up....guaranteed response from rescue.
Hello my name is Constantine I really like your hunts. I hunted a lot of partridges in my youth and I see some mistakes you make all the time. @@ericforrester1 In Saskatchewan I put IM & F. You know how soookybthey get late season lol. Great video again Eric. Greatvdog work! Really like your buddies setters too!
Wild chukars..... The first time you hunt them, it's to hunt them. Every single hunt after that, it's to seek revenge for how difficult and frustrating they are to pursue. There's no shame in ground pounding a chukar, they're evil devil spawn. If you've ever seriously hunted them, you know what I'm saying and you're nodding your head in agreement.
Great job I especially liked the on one knee shot says it all dogs were great Thanks

Wow, thanks so much for the kind words! That’s exactly the kind of reaction I hope for! I’m glad you are enjoying them.
Man, your videos help keep me sane while waiting for season to start.
Tough chukar need tough guys to hunt them, good job my friend.
Thanks 👊
The video doesn't do the terrain justice until you see those rocks rolling down the hill in front of you. Whoa. Great hunt and even better dog work. Those retrieves were outstanding. 👍
Yeah it was very steep! Thanks Kenny!

Thank you for the kind comment! It means a lot coming from someone who lives there. And yes, you are very lucky!

Great videos! At 4:36 on the bottom right, there blood in the snow. Who do you think that’s from? You, the dogs, or the bird!?
Sharp eye! At the time I thought it was from
my dog but it was the bird. You can see the blood on it’s tail feathers when it takes off.

You kidding? I'd "cliff swat" a limit if I could be so fortunate. Those devils are dang near impossible!
😁👍
Nice hunt! No judgement from me. I hunted that sort of terrain for chukar and i understand.😉
Thanks Jason! 👍
Another badass video, awesome footage of some hard hunting and great dog work. Just curious what gun/choke and shell setup were you using?
Thanks Phil! I shoot a 12ga. 1300fps #6’s. Improved cylinder choke which was too open for this hunt but I forgot my chokes at home so I was stuck with it.
Awesome video! It's on my bucket list. How many nicks and scratches did your gun get?
I consider them badges of honor! 😁
@@ericforrester1 Totally agree! Even a rock is more useful than an expensive beautiful gun that just hangs on the wall.
Very nice shots brother which number choke and cartridge is used in this hunting ???
Cylinder choke. 7.5 shot

Yep...Ethos. Thanks

Eric using a GoPro and if so what model. Also do you film in 4k or what setting do you like the best?
Sorry I didn’t see this comment. I use a GoPro in 2.7k 60fps.
Yes!!! Cliff swat!!! I'd have brought a damn rifle.

Benelli Ethos. Oregon
Wow that terrain has got to be hard on the pups, you would think they could mess up their legs in all those nooks and crannies
