I'm so tempted to purchase one and almost did, but I just don't wear t-shirts. I'd love a button up tartan shirt with "Bawbag" written across my boobs. 😂 Sounds like you have a new clothing line to create. 😉
I've been looking up videos to get a better feel for a Scottish accents for a voice acting thing, and uh...well I learned a lot more than I was originally searching for. Knowing how everyday these words are in Scotland, I think I'll be throwing some of these around as I ad lib. Thank you so much for the video!
As a descendant from Scottish I enjoyed this. My favourite phrase is "Yer bum's oot the windae!" and my Scottish boyfriend says to his friends "Ya wee bawbag!". Love my Scottish heritage 🏴
'A face like a slapped arse' we use in England, usually refers to someone we don't like who might be angry or annoyed. 'Go and boil your head' is also used. I probably learned some of these listening to my dad who was brought up in Glasgow and translated many Scottish sayings for us, he loved telling stories about life in Glasgow in the early 20th century, a lot of poverty but he brought out the humour of the situation.
Oh my how I love being a Scot.We have the best words, phrases and accent in the world. You can insult people with a smile in your face and they haven't a clue. This was so funny.Scots rule.👍👍👍
Och Shaunnie! Ye forgot tae mention how we named oor hurricane "Hurricane Bawbag". And that TV newsreaders, both male and female, had to discuss Hurricane Bawbag on telly with a straight face. 😂😂😂
I think in Spain we swear too much like you do. I always find quite shocking when American or British people feel so offended by bad words. In my everyday life I swear in Spanish as well as in English, now I can swear in Scottish too, thank you! hahaha
Not true at all me and my wife swear like sailors (renowned for awefull and vulgar language) and we do it in front of every single being we encounter. As much as i love this video it sames a bit tamed compared to the langauge my wife and i use around the house every day ! Although the culture envolved is certainly one i can get behind since we're vulgar peoples anyway :)
Hi - love your posts. My gramma when she was mad at someone would call them a wee little wretch, amongst other things. This made me smile and remember her!
i loved the vlog. i am from Edinburgh. I have lived in Finnmark the Northernmost part of Norway for a decade. It is sad but i cannot swear in Norwegian because my wife just says it sounds so sweet in my Scottish accent, thanks for reminding me that i can swear properly as only we Scots can.
This entire video is HILARIOUS, but I gotta say, 4:41 made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe! Thanks for all your wonderful videos, Shaun, and especially this one. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've got 8% Scottish in me and my son has 23% Scottish in him. We took the ancestry DNA testing and we've got a lot of England and northwestern Europe in us including Scottish. Someday I want to take a trip to Scotland to see where our ancestors came from
Thanks for this vlog as it confirms for me why we insult each other on my Dad's side of the family. I wasn't sure if it was just a Henderson family trait or because we are from Scotland. I know that I have shocked friends for talking to my father 'disrespectfully'. My grandpa was from Kilbernie, Ayshire and my granny was from Glasgow (Springburn Street). We were all brought up with a deep respect for Scotttish culture and music by them. Again thanks for your vlogs as it you are triggering some wonderful memories.
I just wanna tell you, I'm a writer and your videos helped me creating a scott man character's vocabulary and habits. And he's like the most loved charactwr among readers of the first book, that'sthe one that has been published so far. So thank you for being so cool.
Thanks Shaun, I lost it at Pregnant Fish. We are pretty good at insults, an art form down under. Iv'e lived in Scotland 50 years ago and I'm coming back, bucket list at74 years old
Ahhhh, I love the shirts but which one to choose. I can't have them all! Shaun, you HAVE provided a much needed and appreciated service. Try and stay warm!
My Gran said “yer bum’s opt the windae” all the time, but meaning, right yer for it. And “awae ‘n biel yer heid” as in F off or dinnae bother me “ya bampod/besom.”
Aye! Love me a wee bit of Scottish humor!! Being Scottish descent myself as part of the Wilkie (originally MacQuilkan) family of the Clan of Donald, from Islay/Kintyre, I honestly love ALL parts of my Scottish heritage!!
This just made my day - just love it. I will be in Scotland in a few days and i´m sure this will bring me a lot of friends (or at least one or two black eyes and a broken nose) ;-)
As a north norwegian we hear this alot too...we are too rough in our language. We are, if I think somebody act as an ars...I let him/her know that. Now I can do it in Edinburgh's dialect too
One of my all time favorites is you Gob Shite. i heard it on a episode of Mrs Browns Boys lmfao. awesome show. Love the Video Shaun. Hugs from Florida Usa lmfao
Whenever I go into a touristy store or restaurant that has the register they want guests to sign for a mailing list, I always put Stanley and Sheila Gobshite followed by the address of a friend or family member =))
Oh my Gosh Shaun, thanks so much for this vlog. I was having a pretty crappy day and your Country's Scottish insults really made me laugh! :o)) (Golden) If I could "Like" your video more than once I absolutely would. We Americans insult each other all day long as well. Some for fun, some, not so much.. Your colorful phrases and language is just better somehow.. Celebrate your culture!! (and your slang/language) Cheers!!
My Scottish brother has made me cry by teasing me too much. (I’m also a very sensitive only child; there’s a cultural clash there. But I love him anyway. He calls me his ‘annoying little sister.’ He’s a whole 5 days older than me.)
Loveeeee your accent shaun! ♥️ im curious to know... have you read all the outlander books? Currently reading the first... its so gooood. I find myself speaking and trying to master my scottish accent hahaha
American living in Caithness and Ross-Shire here. I'd heard away an boil yer heed several times, but only once have I heard the rest of it - Away and boil yer heed ta make a pot of daftie soup
This reminds me of how we are in Northern Norway - The people in the south of Norway are pretty "uptight and tepid", but up here we are a bit more rough around the edges.
OMG! Too frickin' funny! If there was any question about my Scottish heritage, this would solve it right here! Insults can flow from me like water. LOLOLOL!
I found out I am 43 percent Scottish . I play on the second life platform online and made a Scottish character and am having fun letting out my inner Scottishness.
"ach away and boil your heed" is a bit like "your bottom's out the window". I understand it expresses incredulity when somebody is telling you something absolutely outlandish and silly.
My husband Colin is 48, born and raised in Edinburgh, and has lived in the States for 16 years. My favorite insult he still uses which I still don't know how to spell is pronounced "hee-da-baw". Any clue?
Haha, I am Russian but grow up in Australia. Is almost like you sing "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens"! You insult most politely hahaha. Молодец, great video 😀
the beast is here. England brought to a standstill with 4 inches of snow.....(we've had that in the summer) lol.....all the sayings are correct but Shaun you need to be more Scottish when saying them lmao...great vlog and brings back a few memories still bawbag is my fav and still use it OFTEN :-O
After all these years, the Love and Rockets lyric is "the drunk outside the windae" not "the drunk outside the wendy". I figured wendy was a pub or something. Thanks for inadvertently clearing that up.
I'm always making up/transforming words related to other words. Example: I was talking to my Scottish friend about needing to get a job and I said "yeah I gotta go look for a jobby." And 2 of the Scots started laughing. And I'm like what??
Preparing myself ! 😂 I'm really excited for my first trip to "Édimbourg" (French here ;) around May , right in time for Beltane's Fire Festival ! I will be on foot for three days (I will vlog it I think), I Hope I will be able to see as much as possible ! Sadly I will not be able to see far away "Outlander" locations but I hope I can aford to come back one day, for much longer ! Thanks for the videos, love them ! (If anyone got tips for me, fire away !)
I can't wait to come to Scotland and have someone call me a "bawbag" or that I have a face like "a skelped arse". I think I will feel like I’ve had the full Scottish experience :)
When I was in Scotland I mentioned to a local that a family member had recently died. "Oh, thas very sad.... Whot size shoes diddy wear?" I laughed for like half an hour.
🏴👉 Scottish humour T-shirt available here: bonniebox.scot/collections/scottish-humour
Ha! The tongue punch shirt: someone is gonna take you up on that. Haven't you heard of tossing a salad?
Shaun my son REALLY want the ‘Away and bile yer heid’, but he’s 9 so I don’t think the S would fit him☹️ Love the new site though!
I would love a T-shirt but I got a huge rack and can’t wear round neck T-shirt’s - hope you put in a run with v necks too ;)
I'm so tempted to purchase one and almost did, but I just don't wear t-shirts. I'd love a button up tartan shirt with "Bawbag" written across my boobs. 😂 Sounds like you have a new clothing line to create. 😉
Shaun 1:55 I don't give a fukun' shite! I love ye bastards!
"I hope your next shite is a hedgehog" 😂😂😂 I was literally crying. Thank you for sharing.

Amanda LovesEyeliner! Cheers doll I’ll tell Ma maw yae liked it 😂😂😂
Amanda LovesEyeliner! 😂😂😂
“ yer bums oot the windae “ was one of my late granny’s favourite phrase! And “ awright fannybaws” was my brothers . Ah I love our phrases ❤️🤣🏴
Other people: looking up how to be a better person, how to improve my self
Me: scottish cursing
Me with Scottish and Greek. my mother is Greek, we insult each other in a way that seems rude to others but to us fine lol
As an Australian this is so relatable. Insults/swearing all day every day: its how we show love
As a chilean I also can relate
How i wish i was born an aussie or a scott sometimes. It takes some "baws" to taken a friendly insult and just go along with it in my book.
I have a friend who's a bushy who calls all of his friends cunts.
I've been looking up videos to get a better feel for a Scottish accents for a voice acting thing, and uh...well I learned a lot more than I was originally searching for. As a descendant from Scottish I enjoyed this. My favourite phrase is "Yer bum's oot the windae!" and my Scottish boyfriend says to his friends "Ya wee bawbag!". Love my Scottish heritage 🏴
The "I hope your next shite's a hedgehog" sincerely made me laugh SO HARD! Wonderful insult!
The Scotts never dick around with how they feel. I love it. They will tell you exactly and with poetic joy!
"A hope yer next shite's a hedgehog" had me rolling! And I will adopt this, btw!
'A face like a slapped arse' we use in England, usually refers to someone we don't like who might be angry or annoyed. 'Go and boil your head' is also used. As a scottish child of the 90s my self, thankyou for this video! I remember most of these phases being used when I was at school as well!
Never apologize for who you are! I love my Scottish heritage and learning! ❤❤❤
Isn't ur profile pic a rune tree?
So funny man I love being Scottish! Glaswegian patter is slightly different though lol
shaun should do a glaswegian words episode
Aye, I've always known 'yer arse is oot the windae' as meaning you're out of luck, or, you're gubbed basically 😂
Oh my how I love being a Scot.We have the best words, phrases and accent in the world. You can insult people with a smile in your face and they haven't a clue. This was so funny.Scots rule.👍👍👍
Glaswegian accent is quite funny
Och Shaunnie! Ye forgot tae mention how we named oor hurricane "Hurricane Bawbag". And that TV newsreaders, both male and female, had to discuss Hurricane Bawbag on telly with a straight face. 😂😂😂

Americans are a bunch of soggy boxes, to be honest. They can't manage it without being agitated.
Gabriella Shimone true
depends in which part of spain, Andalusians swear sometimes, while Basque a *lot*

I have a friend from Scotland and she said the alot of people say fuck off instead of saying goodbye
It's called being honest and keeping things real. Lots of people can't handle it.
This entire video is HILARIOUS, but I gotta say, 4:41 made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe! Thanks for all your wonderful videos, Shaun, and especially this one. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just started watching Still Game so I feel like these will come in handy
In the Outlander books the ability of Jamie to insult as a Scottish trait is expounded upon several times.
MissMargaret, I love how Jamie is renowned (at least amongst the people who know him) for his colorful insults. 😁
Shaun you brought a big laugh after a long day at work! Thanks!!!!!
I've got 8% Scottish in me and my son has 23% Scottish in him. We took the ancestry DNA testing and we've got a lot of England and northwestern Europe in us including Scottish. Someday I want to take a trip to Scotland to see where our ancestors came from

Yeah, watch that Samurai Jack episode with the Scotsman on the bridge and translate that.
Well, he's already got a start at 4:00, so...
This was great Shaun. Thanks!
This channel is great for a laugh. Thanks, Shaun. lol
BAHAHAHAHAA!! Took notes for my show. You are incredible man. Lol Cheers Shaun!
I love these!! Very time someone posts anything about our Dear Leader here in the US of A, I'll throw one of these in to add to the confusion.
one of the funniest things I have seen and heard was an argument between two Scotts xD
Aye! Love me a wee bit of Scottish humor!! Being Scottish descent myself as part of the Wilkie (originally MacQuilkan) family of the Clan of Donald, from Islay/Kintyre, I honestly love ALL parts of my Scottish heritage!!
That was priceless thanks Shaun!
"Ye got a face like a skelped arse" I'm using that one eventually 😂
Or a bag of spanners😅😅
YA W A N K-S T A I N
Bloody love this!! I have family from Scotland and I’m from Newcastle but Lordy ain’t heard half of these. Thought I’d know more 😂
I love 'ya wee scrote' rolls right off the tongue.

You are looking mighty Canadian eh! LOL!
I'm using these now! No one would know in Australia 😈
i love it, man. you're awesome.
This just made my day - just love it. I will be in Scotland in a few days and i´m sure this will bring me a lot of friends (or at least one or two black eyes and a broken nose) ;-)
Mad bint means crazy female 😅😅😅
Thank god for Scotland
Would calling someone a "Jobby Fanny-Bawbag" be a legitimate remix? Asking for a friend. He deserves to be called something unique and hard hitting.
"Yeh look like a bulldog who shat a hedgehog that was on fire..."
Mad jobby stabber 😅😅😅
As a north norwegian we hear this alot too...we are too rough in our language. We are, if I think somebody act as an ars...I let him/her know that. Now I can do it in Edinburgh's dialect too

this is some real pristine education - much obliged!!!
Nice, nice!! I love it! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm going to have to work "I hope you're next shite's a hedgehog" into my vocabulary.
One of my favorites is "ye gotta face like a bulldog lickin piss offa nettle"
Not watched you for a while! Really liked this vlog made me laugh! Beastfaetheeast is here!!!!!!!
Absolutely golden! Now I am going to shop for a shirt or two!
Heather Lessiter so glad you like it, check out the Outlander ones ;)
Shaun Oh I have. Bought a Binnie Box as well! My family loved trying all of the goodies!
”Away an bile yer heid! ”
Go away, or I'll boil your head.
"I hope yer next shite's a hedgehog" Hahahahaha
My Scottish brother has made me cry by teasing me too much. (I’m also a very sensitive only child; there’s a cultural clash there. But I love him anyway. He calls me his ‘annoying little sister.’ He’s a whole 5 days older than me.)
Shaun...you keep me laughing. Thanks!😂
I couldn’t quit laughing, especially during the first half. 😂
The hedgehog one was the best!
I laughter so hard!!
You missed. Bellend, Munter, Ring piece. Numpty 👍🏴
These are hilarious Shaun, and shop I will🤣🤣🤣 I may also throw a few of these into my vernacular. Michiganders (Michigan natives) will be confounded.
Thanks Shaun! I'm sure a lot of these insults will really come in handy 😂
This reminds me of how we are in Northern Norway - The people in the south of Norway are pretty "uptight and tepid", but up here we are a bit more rough around the edges.
Love being of Scottish descent, wish I grew up in Scotland with the accent

Do you mean he should be more Glaswegian? He sounds pretty normal for an Edinburger.
In Newfoundland and the Maritimes they say "give your head a shake and when it falls on the ground, kick it."
I sincerely wish your t-shirt link worked. I would be there Christmas shopping!
Love it trying to add these to my vocabulary aye.lol
After all these years, the Love and Rockets lyric is "the drunk outside the windae" not "the drunk outside the wendy". I figured wendy was a pub or something. Thanks for inadvertently clearing that up.
Cool, Shaun!
My three year old called me a bawbag and so now I'm blamin you! 😆
Would love a mask with these insults, as I'm moving there next year! 💙🏴💙
These are pretty good... I could use these at work and not get fired.
I'm always making up/transforming words related to other words. Example: I was talking to my Scottish friend about needing to get a job and I said "yeah I gotta go look for a jobby." And 2 of the Scots started laughing. And I'm like what??
I would use roaster when i am. We tend to use weapon instead. Like they are a fyckin weapon
im Scottish and irish i live in Minnesota and my favorite Scottish word is ya bass 😀👍
Shaun, I laughed my "arse" off with this video. I have some good words to call my husband now. Keep the videos coming!!! LOL!!
I spoke on the radio at work after a small lady was attacked for her speech. Not Scot I spoke but damn did I channel it.
Bawbag it’s just good
Preparing myself ! 😂 I'm really excited for my first trip to "Édimbourg" (French here ;) around May , right in time for Beltane's Fire Festival ! Someone pissed me off and I’ve thrown at least 30 Scottish insults at them
I can't wait to come to Scotland and have someone call me a "bawbag" or that I have a face like "a skelped arse". I think I will feel like I’ve had the full Scottish experience :)
You got a face like a bag o spanners 😅😅😅
When I was in Scotland I mentioned to a local that a family member had recently died.
"Oh, thas very sad.... Whot size shoes diddy wear?"
I laughed for like half an hour.
I love the Outlander shirts 😍
