I worked in a job I hated for 34 years. I retired last year. The only reason I stayed in that job is that I had bills to pay and a roof to keep over my head. Choose your career. Don't let your career chose you, or you'll be very unhappy.
Not sure if anyone wants to take career advice from someone that stayed at a job for 34 years that they hated. You could had switched jobs, gone to school at night, started a paid internship etc.
You can still choose your career but end up in a toxic workplace. This is when you look for another workplace. . You are not a tree. You can move, so go where you're celebrated and not tolerated.
or you could work at a place like my employer, where they SAYYY you can work 3 days in the office, 2 at home, BUT this is not pushed or followed by most, and oh, because of what I do, I am not allowed this. Nor am I allowed any OT.
I'm at a job where my managers don't even know how to do the job of the employees they manage. Whenever they have manager division meetings, they pull in one of us to be the representative because our manager has no clue how to do our job. It's ridiculous
I did a lot of these and earlier this week I quit! I was probably getting fired for performance issues despite my best efforts, so I had to, but the environment was toxic. Very relieved. I am good on money, but I am a little concerned about what people think of me for leaving a "good job."
I just quit a high paying corporate job because all of this. I pretend to not care because if I cared, I'd have a panic attack. It's not only my boss but my coworkers. I have no peers to go to. Everything is getting more complicated and technical but my "peers" are all stuck in the 2000s skills wise. But if I say anything, they think I am complaining or "pretending" I am better than them....but to a certain degree is it really pretending? If everyone has to come to me for help and I have a backlog while other people leave at 5:00, isn't that a sign of a problem?
Baybeeee when i felt that feeling of "anybody can catch it at any time" I knew i had to start panning to leave. Man that Sunday night anxiety is REAL!! I thought it was just me. Also the stank face was me all the way!!! I left a month ago and i couldn't be happier and now I'm pursuing my business.

I recently got pulled into the office to discuss customer complaints about me not being friendly enough. One I didn't even sign up for the job I'm getting in trouble for, I was lied to and used from the beginning. The only reason they hired me is to be a fill in or extra help, I have no real purpose. I have been with the company for 7 years only to get treated like a PRN. I don't even recognize myself anymore and I hate that. I am depressed, frustrated, exhausted and just completely fed up with the entire experience. Now I'm stuck in a no win situation and have no options. I clock out before I even clock in!

But I feel too stressed out and sick at work. The company touts a people first culture but lately it’s getting the most work with minimal staffing. We are always understaffed. It’s summer for crying out loud. I’m tired of customers yelling at me and copping an attitude because there aren’t enough cashiers. I feel my concerns are being ignored. We’re not even unionized.

What did it for me was saving them 28k for 300$ of ingenuity and 1 year later I got 1,080$ raise. Insulting.
