This sound never gets old
I can't get enough of this sound. It takes me back to the 90s club dancefloor and the afterparty carnage that inevitably followed! It's got a slightly evil additctive quality. This sound plus the ravey organ sound and the hoover are just epic

It just occurred to me: learn to make my own Landlords... this was excellent. I hadnt previously appreciated the different characteristics that each chord produced.

Great video by the way. I imagine the guys back in the day were sampling the untransposed source chord from somewhere, rather than creating a chord and transposing it. But that's just a guess.
This is the official info (but producer seems to be unsure): The Canadian producer Nick Fiorucci, who is behind the "Landlord" stab, has said that the original patch was likely a mix of a sitar and a harpsichord.

I love your videos, you absolutely nail the vibe of the era. The landlord has always been a fave. How about a vid on mentasm?...you touched on it with the Juno vid but that sound has done some mileage
The Keyboard used in mentasm was a Roland Juno-2, the preset was "what the"
@@_jilted that’s right, sampled and filtered with a Roland s-330 from what I’ve heard. It then was sampled from the record and took on a life of its own
@@topnobby Roland s-330, are you sure? What if it was an Roland W30? An akai s900/950? O simply, a 12bit and low frequency sampler? I don't know, but that sound like that preset on the Roland Juno-2.

Not bad but the secret to doing a convincing Landlord is knowing what DX7 preset you need.
Yep wait till you hear my attempts . Its a edited dx clav you need as the start point. Then you need to down sample and change the bitrate to get that crusty lofi DAC sound. Maybe you already know this . Just saying .
@@AdamTheAd-vanc3d Yea I've been there. A particular clav preset from a foreign market dx7. the correct chord and downsample. I've got about 90% there.

A fellow Scot doing rave stabs, I can't help wondering if we've been in the same sweaty dark room in the dim and distant past. :-) My main haunt back in the day was Pure in the burg, but many nights spangled elsewhere too. Nice vid.

Have you tried sourcing the dx7 harpsichord patch ? Fm harpsi 1. I reckon layering that piano with that dx patch might be how they did it.
The DX7 harpsichord is from the ROM3 a card. I have this preset
It isn't harpsi 1. This was a typo somebody made years ago. The actual preset can be found on the original factory bank on the USA version of the DX7.

Seen quite a few people using Bitwig recently, how do you rate it? Love the old school sounds.
Thanks. Bitwig - I really like it for it's simplicity and easy/clever way of doing things, however, there are some basics missing and it has been on a long modular detour for quite a while (not my thing). I did pick up Studio One recently, which I find better for arranging and hardware integration and it's more mature, plus I also like Renoise, so torn between them all, but will usually head to BW for familiarity, it's very stable and has a lot of little but nice tools.

It's "Hall of the Mountain King" by Mussorgsky. Used to love Wishdokta back in the 90's though ... "Banana Sausage" was a belter (but a rework of Beltram's "Energy Flash")

Manic Minor is based on the drop from the Inspector Gadget theme.
If you can remake the stab from Marc Smith - Pump Up The Noize (also uses in 100s of other hardcore tracks) I'd be forever grateful
