Personally, I love it when you replace plastic fasteners on an old car and then talk about points at the car show. That's hilarious because there are channels where they look at classic cars and will say, non original hose clamp, non original hose, non original bolts, hood pins, whatever. And they're right. But that idea on an old Ford Focus is hilarious.

My neighbors '15 Focus was flat bedded and dropped off in his driveway yesterday. It quit while driving and is an intermittent no-crank. Other symptoms are can't shift out of park, ignition key states not reporting correctly. I pulled a number of codes including u3006 3 and one for an open in a BCM B+ supply. Searching on-line and TH-cam brought me to that 50 AMP fuse. We were able 'catch it in the act'! Tried several parts stores w/o success, and a trip to the local dealer was too late. Tomorrow should get it back on the road. I would love to see SMA's video on this fuse. UPDATE: Ford Dealer p/n CV6Z 14526 CA has been redesigned. Now is a molded black fuse. I cleaned the connections and treated them to DeOxit and Fluid Film, like SMA!
CuttingEdgeEngineering is a wonderful TH-cam channel. He runs a large lathe and refurbishes parts for the largest earth moving machines made, e.g. dump trucks, graders, bulldozers, excavators. This week's video he was refurbishing the drum brakes on his fork lift. When it came time to install the spring retainers, that go in the middle of each shoe, he really struggled. He even said, "if I was a mechanic I would have a tool for this." He is not a mechanic, he is a machinist. Machinists use adjustable wrenches, mechanics have six sockets in each size, and five open end and box end wrenches in each size. I do not think I have ever seen Eric O use an adjustable wrench. Heck Eric has _half_ mm sockets, e.g. 12.5 mm.

I never bought the accumulator either even though many said it would void warranty. There is nothing much to one and it's soul purpose is to make sure no liquid gets to the compressor, but does have a filter dryer, that collects any moisture that may have been left in system, but the vacuum pump should remove all moisture, so I never saw the point of changing them. An upcharge to get you to buy one. A cool experiment is to get a glass jar with a good metal lid and install a schrader valve in the lid, seal it with sillycone and fill the jar with water. When you hook up the vacuum pump, the water will boil for you to see at room temps and freak out a lot of people, including yourself. Have everyone hold it in their hands. Then you will know or others will know how any moisture in a system will boil and build a pressure under vacuum that will immediately get evacuated. This is why you need a good vacuum pump.
That's not how vacuum on a closed system works. Basically, as vacuum is created, flow out of the system decreases, and there's little flow to carry the water molecules out (boiling or not) in an efficient time frame. A Ford Focus of that body style I worked on had windshield wipers that wouldn't turn off. Even with the key out. They just randomly come on and would not rest when they did stop. Turned out to be the battery sense on the negative was corroded. Disconnecting it made them work normally.

I am retired from BellSouth telephone company. That No-Ox-Id A-Special is the same stuff we used on the huge batteries in the telephone central offices to keep corrosion away.
Had a ford focus come in for a no start. Found a cracked fuse down in that same junction. Funny thing is you could start and stall when tweaking the plate. Was a fun diag to do.
You are probably already aware of them, but I have been using a company out of Florida named R&Y for compressor clutches for about a year now. They are fast and I have saved my customers a money. Zero comebacks so far. (Knock on wood)
We have that same AC machine (which is now used as a backup) and you are correct it’s absolute garbage lol, nothing but problems out of that thing including the never ending purge like you had here. It’s also completely lost its ability to add oil to the car through the machine. About 3 years ago we got 2 symtech machines for 134 and 1234 and to be honest they have been pretty solid. The only issue we’ve had is with the touchscreen and every time we’ve just called them and they send out a new screen under warranty. Most of the time if you have a fault pop up you can call them and they’ll remote log into your machine and can typically fix the issue over the air
Looks like the PRNY is putting some nice weather on (nice Aussie heat)....my son and his girlfriend are heading there on Tuesday for a week or so before heading back to Aus
I use that same silicone grease, looks the same as the old 3m formula. I buy the 8 Fl oz tubs of the trucklite nyk-77 and use an acid brush. 30 plus years of packing that in trailer pigtails, light sockets, battery connections, starter connections and grounds, most connections besides weatherpack and circuit boards. Keeps everything fresh, oxidation and corrosion free, even in salt.
Another great video - thanks for sharing. Wonder if the wires got cut when the belt left the engine? Nice preventive maintenance by replacing the cable - so much easier to do it when it is convenient for the customer and the repair shop then when it fails during the winter months in about 6 months time.
I really appreciate your input on the a/c recovery machines. I own 2 of the exact same model and have had similar problems as well as fitting leaks pop up all the time. Im going to look into Mahle. Thanks

So glad you posted this video, we're having problems with our machine not wanting to finish the fill without car assistance mode running several cycles. It's painfully slow even changed the filter 2 times in 30 days, took it apart, cleaned out everything, and still had no luck.

My 34788 hasn't been too bad. The only issue I've had with it over the last couple years is sometimes it won't inject oil. When I hit the button it just beeps. Then the next time it will inject oil just fine. Bought it used 4-5 years ago. I have a Mahle ACX1250 1234yf machine I bought used off the Snappy truck...slow as molasses but it does work and was cheap.

When reclaimers first came about in the 90s I was checking into them for the hospital where I worked.. I was in maintenance... Well it was a small hospital so I was chief engineer.. I found it that time the steamberston . That was the name of it. Those seem to be the most innovative they do not use a filter but a canister where the world of stuff that should be not with the free on like moisture and so forth when into a chamber. I thought that was interesting and it seemed to work the best.. no filters were needed . I remember going to the Robin are factory where they make those reclaimers it was interesting to watch them make them.. please they were made here in the states at the time..
Had the same thing happen as the escape you talked about where that plate got just gross and it had been cannoned already by a senior tech in my shop! And not the first time I fixed one of his comebacks lol!

I am retired from BellSouth telephone company. That No-Ox-Id A-Special is the same stuff we used on the huge batteries in the telephone central offices to keep corrosion away.
Great video a lot of realistic information
Thanks for the video Mr.O & The Lovely Mrs. O.
Lotsa fun on this one. Come on, Ford, label the fuses!
You always do great work! Always impressed with your work ethic. and you're funny as hell.
Love the step by step process
My car has the Black Death. 😢. The evaporator will be a joy to get to.
Hello from Canada! That was funny we really do say that sometimes "Eh!" 🙂
You guys have to get rid of Turdeau
So damn timely. My compressor is laying on the floor and took it off yesterday. Waiting on new one. Or refurb $160. Watching whole vid 👀
Another great video - thanks for sharing. Wonder if the wires got cut when the belt left the engine? Nice preventive maintenance by replacing the cable - so much easier to do it when it is convenient for the customer and the repair shop then when it fails during the winter months in about 6 months time.
I hope you guys are safe from the tornados.
Thanks for the video Eric... Love any video you give us... Wish you would have posted that video....
I have the Snap on EEAC325B 134a machine and never have had a problem with it. Got it used back in mid 2020.
I really appreciate your input on the a/c recovery machines. I own 2 of the exact same model and have had similar problems as well as fitting leaks pop up all the time. Im going to look into Mahle. Thanks
good job boss,
it was a stinker here yesterday, at 107, a cooling trend today, `106. sweet.
you make it look easy, last AC I took on was in our truck, R&R the condenser,
but I had to take it in to the shop I use to get it charged up. two years ago.
I'm sure the woman who owns the car is going to love you for repairing the AC.
Blessings to you and yours
South Main Auto.. Nice job Eric. I don't know about up in NY but down here in Florida us fat guys have to have our AC working and on full blast.. I just hit the 10K mark so I'm excited.
Used No-Ox special in the power industry on big, threaded, bolted, pressure connections, a great product.
I have a 2015 Fucus (manual trans). Been a great car. 205k. Only left me on the side of the road once when a $3 fuse for the ECM went in that power distribution box. Cost me a $200 tow as I didn’t have one in my glove box baggy-o-spares. I do now. 😉
My a/c untouched and blowing cold since day new. Hope I didn’t just put the voodoo on it by saying so. 👹
I’ve been running Ford Focus’s as my commuter car since 06’ 2.0 with the manual 5 Seed I used to trade them in at 100K , until my 2010, I put full synthetic in and changed it every 7-8K those cars (if you can keep them from rotting out under your butt) are good for 350K + I have a 2013 with 291K on it. Gotta last another 9 months and out ! (Retired) and I’ll run out and find another used one with 100K on it and use it for knocking around:)
I feel your pain Mrs. O. Never fails for me with tomato. Every single burger I get has the heel of the tomato in it. There can be five of us ordering a burger and I get the heel. The last one even had some of the green stem on it. Sorry about the complaining Mr. O.
🤣 I'll let Mrs. O know
You should replace the receiver and condenser...
Sad about the Robinar. Probably made somewhere across Pacific ocean..
@@SouthMainAuto thought I’d mention this to you, as you appear to be on a “real food” journey instead of the standard American diet garbage that’s at the store, take a look into Dave’s Killer Bread products if you want a healthy alternative that actually taste good. You’ll thank me!
You’ll really thank me if you try the cinnamon raisin bagels. Their buns are pretty darn good too.
but that's the most nutrient loaded portion of it or so they claim! nevermind their poisonous(tiny amount) don't eat the leaves, stems and other parts, of course unripe green tomatoes also have some. probably nothing would happen unless you eat a bunch(kids, pets, rodents may not be as lucky)
Like one of the other commentators said. We would have enjoyed the diagnostics on the Ford fuse voltage drop. Enjoyed the video as always.
HVAC working. Out here in Southern AZ, it is 109F today 🔥WE NEED working A/C out here at these temperatures.
NO OX ID is manufactured by a company called Sanchem out of Illinois. They've made electrical grease for for over 65 years. I think this should take care of that battery corrosion a little better than dielectric grease. Good choice Eric!!
My ac in this car went out this week and I was like " I will have to see if South main has a video. " today I get this noti lol
Good video,I was offered a robin air, nearly bought it because of the one in your shop,
So glad you posted this video, we're having problems with our machine not wanting to finish the fill without car assistance mode running several cycles. It's painfully slow even changed the filter 2 times in 30 days, took it apart, cleaned out everything, and still had no luck.
Mine does that too whenever my storage tank gets down around 4 or 5 ibs.If I bring it up above that it's usually fine.
I always fill on low side with car running.
thanks for the replies , just going to try to get through the season and figure out from there.
I feel your pain the machines at work went from 110 control to 24v, made trouble shooting a nightmare. When 110 had problems you could find it very quick.
Bet that one is getting the Fluid Film treatment!
Thanks for the heads up on the machine. I may have bought one so you saved me. Not the first time. You Rock!!!
Love when you cheeze off the armchair mechanics out there!
Nice work
Hummmmmmm.a video from Mr O with no controversy??? no way. I'd like to see that puppy. Nice jib Mr O. Looking forward to the next vid
Post the video. Don’t let anyone keep you from passing on a great talent that you have and we learn from.
Excellent work as usual and you know I had to look up that Johnny Cash song, gave me a good laugh!
Another perfect video Eric you’re doing just fine. Don’t worry about the commando keyboard operators. You can do it without them. This tell us the rest of us what there is to say and we’re on your side. Because nothing else don’t worry be happy.😂😂
I thought that was interesting and it seemed to work the best.. no filters were needed
. I remember going to the Robin are factory where they make those reclaimers it was interesting to watch them make them.. please they were made here in the states at the time..
Another great video! Thanks!
Nice work Eric ..
Had the same thing happen as the escape you talked about where that plate got just gross and it had been cannoned already by a senior tech in my shop! And not the first time I fixed one of his comebacks lol!
Very meticulous repair, just great. I do enjoy you videos.
Almost *900,000* subscribers!!!
car show Zip ties you are the man.
@31:00 ish... I had almost the same model that gave me constant problems. I was injecting oil/dye from the machine into a compressor and it decided to blow up the container. Pag oil and dye all over clients cars and the shop.. it was fun to clean up🙄
