Loved this episode and it has had a really positive impact on me. I have been in such a negative headspace lately about climate change and the state of humanity lately and Smosh has been my escape from that for the last while. Something about how Hank Green calmly and positively reminded us that good news is incremental and bad news gets noticed/amplified with the familiar voices of Amanda and Shayne has just been exactly what I needed to hear at this time. Definitely going to continue listening to SmoshMouth and Hank's podcast.
Hank saying hes "better than you" at yo-yoing gave me GMM flashbacks where it turned out Rhett and Link ARE genuinely very good at it 😂 (or at least Rhett was... I dont remember if Link was now Im thinking about it lol)
WOAH! I knew Hank was doing his podcast rounds, but for some reason this is so unexpected but I love it! (Maybe I just didn’t think about it since this show is less outside guest heavy)
Hank saying "And what are YOU gonna do at home?" hit me like a wall of bricks, it got so meta I felt his eyes looking at me through the screen. It's like if you were looking to someone through their window and outta nowhere they look at you directly. Terrifying 🤣
A Shane makeover episode would be amazingly fun. Just get each Smosh member (above or below the line) that's fashion-passionate to pick a look for him, get a bunch of extras that look like Shane to model them off and then have people (or even the community) vote on the best look and Shane has to wear the top fits for a minimum of a month for every Smosh video. Call it America's Next Top Shane or something fun like that. But also let Spencer take part in it and design a fit for Shane

I've been trying to gather a timeline of who Hank recorded with while he was in Los Angeles/California. I think it was on the Sad Boyz podcast that he mentioned how busy he's been and how absolutely delirious he is because he's been so busy. If you pay attention to all of the stuff he's been in lately, you can see how progressively unhinged he becomes. It's so hilarious! I'm going to guess that this is at the tail end of the trip 😂
My dream TNTL guest eps are a Hank Green episode, a McElroys episode and Iffy + Brennan Lee Mulligan on a Hard Mode Episode (they’re both so competitive). Trust me, a McElroy crossover would be great for SmoshPit because the modern incarnation (really the last few years) feels like it has some crossover with that audience.
FOR THE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THE RICE THING: I studied nutrition for a bit (used Hanks crash course series, it is very useful) I googled "brown rice and arsenic poisoning" and this is the Google summary: "The data demonstrated that inorganic arsenic concentration is 1.5 times higher in brown rice than in white rice. The expert panel concluded that the risk of exposure and associated health condition(s) increases proportionally with consumption and depends on the type of rice consumed.14 Jul 2023" that's probably what Amanda was talking about
someone else claiming to be a dietitian said it was actually that it had a substance that interfered with zinc absorbtion and can be mitigated by soaking it. ita probably pretty easy to find the comment and check it.
@@uuh4yj43 it could be arsenal/arsen (I’m not sure about the English term), if I remember correctly soaking the rice in clean water helps to remove a good amount of it. The reason rice is infused with arsenal is because in the 70s it was used as a pesticide in the water, and only years Lee discovered that it’s very toxic and that the rice absorbed it because rice grows IN the water. When you remove the outer layer of the rice you remove most of the arsen/arsenal, but also most of the fiber and vitamins, which is what makes brown rice better then white rice. So eat white rice to avoid arsen and get your fiber from a less toxic source.

Exactly!!! I've only got like 1/5 of the episode left and they haven't even mentioned Vlogbrothers yet. Feels like they didn't do their prep work very well 😅
He's on like 5000 different things and they didn't need to run through all of his things on every single podcast. It's mentioned enough on other podcasts
@@katfangtastic1420I’m sure they know but that’s not what he is relevant for anymore. As the other person said, he’s done too many things to talk about them all in every podcast, and honestly he’s probably tired of talking about certain things
Like vlogbrothers is what spawned everything else - if there was no vlogbrothers none of the other things he's done would exist. Kinda weird it didn't even get a mention. LOL.
@@spilledoatmilk I doubt that. Hank has always said vlogbrothers is the thing he's most proud of - because that's the thing that started it all.
I always blows my mind how some people don't have the inner monologue. I can play literal music in my head. Certain songs can get stuck in my head too and it can be maddening. Just keeps playing even though I want it to stop.
Same!
no I actually love that they brought up the discussion about how people think. I had to pause like two times to work out how I thought in relation to what they were talking about and it was fascinating.
Hank and Amanda have incredible chemistry and I both love and fear the energy they created in the studio
amanda and hank get along SO well I love it
I never got someone as much as I get Hank. He's nuts in the best way and utterly chaotic, and I feel so seen 😂 "I don't exist in the physical realm most of the time" Same dude, same.
I have to admit I’d never heard of Hank Green before this video. And I must say he did NOT disappoint!! I did NOT want it to end!! I love the humor and intellect in this video from everyone! Now I’m about to plunge down the Hank Green rabbit hole!! Thanks guys!! 😊
Just wait till Hank's son is in a science class and the teacher pulls up a crash course video
"omg uncle john!"
Shayne just,, describing his anxiety,, and then when hank says he's not a perfectionist and you see shayne's reaction,,,, he's so relatable,, literally me
💯!
This podcast is good publicity, because part way through it, I went out and bought Hank’s book 😂
Hank and Amanda's humour and personalities fit SO well together in this
Hank saying hes "better than you" at yo-yoing gave me GMM flashbacks where it turned out Rhett and Link ARE genuinely very good at it 😂 (or at least Rhett was... I dont remember if Link was now Im thinking about it lol)
"Hi, I'm Hank Green and welcome to the roast of Shayne Topp!"
Hank Green is making the round to all my favorite TH-cam channels.
if Angela was there : Hank , how does electricity works?
No, bluetooth
So glad to see Hank doing well, every time someone gets diagnosed with some form of cancer you fear the worst.
Hank really saw Amanda and was like "WOW."
I love Hank. He got diagnosed around the same time as me with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It was nice to watch a creator who knew what I was going through💜
Best quote - "You're a little guy inside of a robot suit" - Shayne....Hilarious.
Shane's Next Topp Look
@@russull5589ohhh ur on to somethinggggggggg!!
hey, i know it's all in good fun, but i just need to be that one comment that was really taken aback by all of these comments etc, Shayne always looks good? what yall talking about, i know yall are joking but those comments get under your skin
@@abird7823group thinking and authority figure saying it probably factor into these comments i think, he isnt fashion forward but he looks nice and is as put together as most other people at smosh. also the name should just be america's next topp model and feature a bunch of shayne lookalikes competing to be the next shayne.
37:36 there was a while where I would think in written sentences… including punctuation. So I would think something along the lines of “I’m going to eat an apple comma a banana comma and a sandwich exclamation point”
Shayne is equally amazed and jealous of Hank’s mindset. I want to hug them both 47:40
I've been trying to gather a timeline of who Hank recorded with while he was in Los Angeles/California.
Okay, I love Shayne's denim look! I will allow the haircut comment, a bit. 😂
My dream TNTL guest eps are a Hank Green episode, a McElroys episode and Iffy + Brennan Lee Mulligan on a Hard Mode Episode (they’re both so competitive).
Trust me, a McElroy crossover would be great for SmoshPit because the modern incarnation (really the last few years) feels like it has some crossover with that audience.
hank green is known as the tik tok science guy now ?? BACK IN MY DAY HE WAS A TUMBLR GOD
Now he's a youtube God lol
@@dark_wolf1572 He always was a TH-cam god. They started in 2007. Predates Tumblr!
@@carolprince16 true true. I guess he's a God that rules over multiple domains lol
Around 34:00 they’re talking about aphantasia! I have it and it just means I can’t see shit in my head LOL
I recently found out my mother is the same way. Blows my mind.
I swear to god if they do a Reddit episode with him this week I’ll be so happy
"you look so nice" what a way to start the podcast. hank you absolute gentleman
FOR THE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THE RICE THING:
I studied nutrition for a bit (used Hanks crash course series, it is very useful)
I googled "brown rice and arsenic poisoning"
and this is the Google summary: "The data demonstrated that inorganic arsenic concentration is 1.5 times higher in brown rice than in white rice. The expert panel concluded that the risk of exposure and associated health condition(s) increases proportionally with consumption and depends on the type of rice consumed.14 Jul 2023"
that's probably what Amanda was talking about
someone else claiming to be a dietitian said it was actually that it had a substance that interfered with zinc absorbtion and can be mitigated by soaking it. ita probably pretty easy to find the comment and check it.
Hank motorboating his squishy thought clouds will stick with me for a long time.
Shayne kissing Hank’s 🍑 being like “I’m GONNA buy the book next time I go..”😂
well... that was wonderful. I love that Hank still had that in his mind of "I gotta make Shayne feel better"
There is something so captivating about this strange science man. He’s got everything
Love the ze frank shoutout. I watched the show with ze frank as it was coming out. I love that it's still maintained online on youtube as a vlogbrothers playlist.
Omg it is???
@wigglyennui yep! Search "ze frank - the show" and it should be a list with 245 videos.
34:15 as someone who has aphantasia, Amanda is absolutely right since I've never once thought about casting/how scenes play out in books. It's why I'm so lenient on adaptations since it's the only way I can even see something I read pictured 🙃
Loved this episode.
As a writer who does not have a mind's eye (aphantasia), its comforting to know John doesn't have one, either.
That said, I would be lost without my inner monologue.
I'm definitely going to have to watch again to fully absorb everything Hank discussed. For now, off to watch ze frank talk about perfectionism.
completely agree with Hank on cold food, warm food DOES have too much flavour
I have been a fan of Ze Frank's True Animal Facts for awhile. I went back and searched for the video Hank was talking about, only to discover a very young Hank in one of Ze's videos from 2012...lol.
I love that Hank is in Montana. As a born & raised Montana girl, I love hearing people talk about us. He’s totally right though with the feeling when you go to a big city though.
A full hour of Hank just being absolutely enamored by Amanda
Well that was just delightful! I love Hank Green, but have not heard any long form interviews with him until now.
I also felt Shane's pain when Hank said he's not a perfectionist. No wonder he gets so much done 😅
Hank Green is such a wholesome king. I just adore him
This has got to be one of my favorite episodes!
Hank and Katherine's video trying all those recipes from that old recipe book is one of my favorite TH-cam videos of all time.
Shane at 45:50 when Hank says "I'm not a perfectionist at all" honestly same, I wish I could stop being a perfectionist and anyone who can't relate really has no idea what the pressure of that can be like
Hank Green did ALL of the podcasts and I'm here for it.
Anyone who hasn’t read Hank Greens books, I highly highly recommend them. They’re some of the best books I’ve ever read
34:19 as someone who can't see any mental imagery: reading is literally just my inner voice repeating the words to me. Lmfao
