I think Kobato and Saiki talked about the possibility of a Band-Maid Christmas song in their little radio show, "Band-Maid Nippon", some years ago. Mostly it was just as a kind of joke - but what they did say in the end was that, well, maybe there could be a Christmas song somewhere down the line, but then that would depend entirely on Kanami getting on board with the idea.
Band-Maid's older, somewhat overlooked songs are going to be rediscovered for years to come. This will bring a continuous flow of new fans into their fold. Some of these tunes are heavy, hard punk rock adding a new depth of artistry to the Maids many fans didn't know they had. Of course, for Maidiacs, they always knew about these bitchin tunes long ago and still listen to them all the time. Thx, NittPicc!
For their 2021 Christmas day acoustic okyu-ji, they picked Santa red and reindeer tan for their outfits, that concert was a pretty great Christmas gift.
Ok I had to pause and go back to the picture of what I thought was MISA signing a photo, She's actually drawing a mustache on a photo of Akane, too funny.
Band- Maid has a very Christmasy song in their catalogue. It is called the “Dawn Winery Theme” for Genshin Impact, and it borrows heavily from “Greensleeves”. It borrows so heavily it’s almost the same song, except maybe for MISA’s bass. :)
BTW, it's obvious that the track "Dawn Winery Theme" for the video game _Genshin Impact_ is a modification of the folk song, but it's credited to Yu-Peng Chen. Also, this version for the _GENSHIN CONCERT 2022_ was arranged by Shiro Sagisu. Of course, I don't think that the Maids just copied the demo/score, though.
@@johnmatthew102 So you thought you'd wait until 3:23am in the UK to reply when i was asleep?😂 Things are so mild in England that there's no chance of a white Christmas in London for yet another year. Actually i'd never thought about Evergreen as a christmas song, but it's definitely a good fit for a "pop-punk xmas album" that uplifts your spirit and make you feel happy Having listened to their most recent songs and going back to Maid in Japan you realize that at that time they still had a lot to grow and learn as a band. But like Francis Drake said: greatness starts from humble beginnings
Well, I was trying to find the video to put into context the last pic in the video.... "Fork in You" but I couldn't find the right one. Basically, it started as Miku was doing her "omajinai time" and a backing track to Miku's song "Rock in Me" started to play so she started to sing with it and then the music cut out and she was wondering what happened. So, she went into this cute little talking to herself moment to give herself the strength and confidence to carry on and that her band members would come out to help her do the song. The song starts again, and Mincho comes out and Miku runs to her, but Mincho runs away. Then Akane comes out eating a banana and tells Miku it's delicious and finally MISA shows up and Miku runs to her only for MISA to tell her that her beer is gone. If you care to try searching for it.... omajinai time/"Rock in Me" from ZEPP Tokyo 2018.... I know it's out there, the whole thing with CC... it's pretty entertaining. No Christmas albums musically, but there's the Christmas Acoustic okyu-ji 2021 and the Christmas Acoustic 2024 that were all waiting on to be shipped to us next month, which only have Christmas-y album covers. It might be fun to get these album covers blown up and color them like we did as kids.
Regarding Christmas, you have to consider that Japan isn't a christian country, so there's no religious background to celebrate it. Of course they put on decorations nowadays, enjoy the atmosphere, but I think it's more of an event for them. Which is absolutely fine 😊

Keep in mind these songs weren't even written for Band-Maid! They're literally leftover songs that were written for other bands but not used. At least, that's the story we've gotten from interviews. The band supposedly chose which songs to use, and they probably had some hand in the arrangement, but other than that I think they just played what they got. There's always some fan story floating around about how they didn't have creative freedom in the beginning, and how their management was trying to make them into a pop/idol band. We don't really have any evidence for that, other than the band not getting to make and publish a Kanami-written song until their third album. It was the band that chose to make a video for Thrill instead of some other song (I don't remember if it was going to be Matador or Summer Drive), not to mention they had Thrill written for them, and while their second album is still clearly "old" Band-Maid it's a lot more hard rock than the first one... so if their management was trying to control them, they were doing a poor job of it. (There are also fan theories about label or management control leading to the switch to Pony Canyon and then MaidIt, and some of Band-Maid's lyrics being a message to their business partners that they won't be controlled, and none of those hold much water either.) Band-Maid doesn't have an album of Christmas music, but they did release their first acoustic show on Christmas, and they joked that their outfits for that show represent Santa and his reindeer. I get Christmas morning vibes from that show, it's so chill and cozy. I'm certain you've seen a couple of songs from that show already, the rest is on Prime I think.
How holiday appropriate ;) . I suppose it is the most Christmassy song in the catalog unless you are looking at the acoustic show. I am still not convinced on the intro, but if you like it ;) ... As I am sure others will comment it is not the most BAND MAIDy song in the world and yes, Kanami and all the girls actually wanted very badly to make their own music. The result was all the early label changes in an effort to gain that creative freedom.
