So, I am a "naturally gifted" singer, I really LOVE singing and I get a lot of compliments on my voice, but I've always been ashamed at how much I struggled with riffs/runs. This video explained it super well and just watching it and warming up once I can already hear a huge improvement. Thank you so much for your wonderful video!
3:23 if you can't do it just slow down, give yourself more time for your voice to calibrate the steps 4:45 with a different melody 5:15 take up the runs
OH MY GOODNESS!!! You guys! This is starting to work!! I just sang it and it actually sounded better ! Here's are some tips: I recommend getting your mixed voice first, I tried this before I could mix my voice. Didn't work. Every lil note that comes out of your mouth, imagine it's like a little blob of paint, sing it so that your voice gets used to how every note sounds. Than add speed, THAN smooth it out!! Imagine you're smearing all the paint together and make it smooth! I don't know why that last part helped me, I'm going to keep practicing! :)
I admire this but can't stand listening to riffs and runs! I don't know why. Too much heavy metal I guess. I do, however, have to learn it so I hope I become more motivated and open-minded. Thank you so much!
I'm here for all of these tutorials. Thank you so much for continuing to post such valuable tips. Also love to see how well Tara, Jeremie and the other awesome coaches get a long so well.
I love singing which is why I’m here. I always get compliments on how beautiful my voice and my tone but I can’t do runs and riffs. Even though a lot of artists say you don’t need to do runs and Riffs to be a talented singer I really wish to learn to do so.
Wow, I was just about to search your channel for a riff/run video and here is a video uploaded today! Description was either typed on a smartphone or alcohol was involved.
@@Tarasimonstudios Hi👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾 The description says that this is teaching us how to belt.. Typo? Haha.. You are AWESOME! I'm buying your program. You are so practical in your approach. You definitely teach "smartly"! Love ya!
Hey Tara and team, thank you so much for your videos :)) I've been singing since .. well.. always :D , and actually always thought I'm not doing too bad. People always loved to hear me sing.. well, since I'm watching your videos I almost feel like a beginner again. There's so much more to learn, also with you I learned to STOP STRAINING MY VOICE finally after 20 years haha. Runs have always been my kryptonite, I've never really been working on in, was happy with a couple thrills, and that was it. I'm writing this before I watched the video, I already know it's gonna help me HEAPS! I've been properly practising singing since only a couple days now (like really consciously practising) and your videos opened a new world for me. THANK YOU for all your work you guys put into the videos and thanks in advance for this one !! Cheers and all the best xx
Loved this video. Would you say that this is vocal flexibility? I am a junior high choir teacher and my students are always asking how to do things. I just always refer them to making sure that they are warmed up correctly and not pushing anything. I emulate the things they ask but during this pandemic and teaching online all the time I refer them to lots of good warm ups. This was a great way to get them doing something they want to be able to do, but also show them that singing on pitch comes first!!
I can hear that you change your voice tone when you do the quick run, what is it that you're doing? It's almost like a baa, or tremble or tremolo tone. Just want to know what it is because I always struggle with the quick stuff!
Idk how to do slow riffs/runs, I lose breath quickly. I'm very good with quick runs but very bad with slow ones :( I don't got good breath control too and I also lose pitch when doing runs/riffs. They also sound too connected/slurry sometimes when i'm tired. I tried doing this exercise buuuuut my larynx lowers at the last note of the descending and it hurts :( also at the toggle part when doing the lower one. My larynx tends to lower most of the time even when i'm not trying to reach a very low note. Must be because I got so obsessed with low notes before and kept strengthening my lower register that my larynx lowers most of the time now. It hurts after a few hours of singing and i cant sing later on the day. I take vocal rests too but the same singing process ruins it again. Now that i've learned more vocally and singing in a healthy placement, it hurts cus my larynx got used to being lowered when i was a kid. Any exercise for a stubborn larynx that hurts itself? Idk if I explained it perfectly but i can comment more to explain-
I agree with the folks who have said the background music is bad news. I found myself struggling to listen to what you were saying whenever the music was playing

T Swift is a great example of a music artist that made it without the fancy riffs and runs.

Very good point about singing discrete tones during the exercise rather than muddying and slurring the notes.

This is the first video that really explains riffs and runs to me... thank you so much!!
Her voice is so beautiful *-* so sharp and Deep in the same time xD
i literally clicked like before the video even began cuz i just knew that whatever was going to be said was going to be important
2:48 Omg I literally sound exactly like that! My throat also starts hurting as soon as I even start trying to do it, even if it's slow
How oh how I wish I were blessed with y'alls voices.
Practice.
It's not a blessing, it's hard work.
Hard work and understanding it seems. I'm a have to start training my vocals in the near future
3:21 without the fall
4:46 without the fall different time
5:10 with the fall
I find that when i do the best riffs and runs it feels effortless in my throat as opposed to bad ones where i push with my throat and it tightens.
I can do these riff/run tutorials but in an actual song or just improv, I can’t?
The intro made me feel what am I doing here oh god super professional 😱😱😃
