As a bisexual, I don't agree. Most of these people probably married the opposite gender not because they were bisexual but because of duty and the way it was back then. So most of these people probably were gay. Although the second to last one is definitely bisexual.
Most of them were forced to marry the opposite gender and have children to perpetuate the royal lineage. They didn’t want to, that’s why they had gay side lovers.

Gotta be careful with these blanket statements. "Born into wealth and privilege" does not mean you get to live your life as you please. Inevitably there are rules and customs and expectations to be followed... or else. And that "or else" would likely include the disappearance of your "wealth and privilege." The LAST thing I'd want to be born into would be royalty. Look at Edward VIII - his choice was to live in misery and loneliness as KING, or in married happiness and disgrace in banishment. Royals are CHAINED - they are not, in any way, FREE. Nope... I certainly don't advocate that it's best to be poor either... as with many things, it's MODERATION that enables a balance between privilege and freedom.

I had tea with that last one, Prince Manvendra. He was visiting town(tulsa, OK) and I just happened to get into a talk about lgbt stuff with a shop owner at the local mall, and she invited me to join her and a small group of people to have a private get together with him, as she'd been in contact with him for years through their respective lgbt activism and he was literally stopping by that evening to visit HER, his friend. he was super chill. talked about his struggles since he came out, how he was disowned and all that and his activism and his plans for his home country. it was a really cool experience that I didn't appreciate properly at the time. it was only a few years ago, but I was dumb enough to only think "holy shit im having tea with a prince." Gongmin was said to be gay or bi. I kinda suspect that he might have been demisexual too. Korea, Goryeo: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gongmin_of_Goryeo He was deeply in love with his queen Queen Noguk, but it took a while. It's said after her death, he refused all women, and only had affairs with men. King Mokjong (980-1009), also Korea. King Hyegong, might also have been gay or trans. Unclear. Side note that Hwarang, part of the nobility of Shilla (the sons of) are often speculated to be gay. Also Wonhwa, daughters that proceeded the Hwarang, have a story of how they were dissolved because there were factions and two girls reportedly fell in love with each other, which caused a falling out. (It's in the samguk yusa) And then Bong Sunbin, in the Joseon era was also said to be a lesbian. She had an affair with her servant, So-ssang. That ended quite bloody. I want a Korean drama focusing on it, but I don't think it'll happen any time soon. Also, often the court maids were from the nobility, and there was a special term within the palace for women that "shared quarters" together which roughly translates to "sharing meals" (Joseon). So it was allowed, though hushed and only allowed with other court maids (probably who had similar ranks in society--so not Jung-in, or middle class with someone from upper.), not nobility. This is only Korea from the top of my head. China and Japan I'm not sure of. Though, there is a rumor that the ooku was started because the first shogun was feared to be gay by his mother, so she thought she could "cure" him by surrounding him with beautiful women. This is more rumor than fact, though. Edit: Looking it up... Togugawa Iemitsu (surname first) was said to have "homosexual preferences" and ended killing his lover in a bath after a falling out. Here is an article on Japanese samurai and practices and homosexuality. www.tofugu.com/japan/gay-samurai/ Emperor Ai of Han. Duke Xian of Jin. Duke Ling of Wei Emperor Cheng of Han was bi. Its funny how aristocratic class was rather open minded and everyone did everything with anyone. But in public they all acted conservative and moral. If only they shared that openess with their people, we would live in heaven
The nobility was extremely hypocritical, so it's no surprise
Cause they still wanted the masses to be controlled by the church. And being open minded was not a part of what the church was teaching. Being gay was a shame for the peasants and if they knew what was going on in the upper class they would have been outraged

A sea of bisexuals
This video: Look at all these gays
As a bisexual, I don't agree. Most of these people probably married the opposite gender not because they were bisexual but because of duty and the way it was back then. So most of these people probably were gay. Although the second to last one is definitely bisexual.
I agree, it was only an innocent joke
Most of them were forced to marry the opposite gender and have children to perpetuate the royal lineage. They didn’t want to, that’s why they had gay side lovers.
Some of them are possibly straight transgender.
😊
$20 bucks says Philip's second wife was also not straight, giving how happy she seemed to be to keep things platonic as soon as they had a kid (which in court was pretty well a minimum requirement of them) and how willing she was to marry him despite (because of?) his reputation for not being into his wives.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too
@@Werevampiwolf The marriage would have been canceled if there wasn't a child. Often even there was no male child. There was something at stake and she wasn't in love with her cousin anyway. No reason to assume she was homosexual, too ;)

@@ross6753 If he was a normal boy he would be starving and probably working since his childhood haha

**me who told my brother about: bisexual, gay, lesbian, trans, and non binary people** “ok”
Ikr,I'm indan too and it pisses me a lot. Ancient India was so gay but I don't get why modern parents think that's a "sin".
Royal children were normally dressed up with female dresses and a certain age they can wear the male robes. Not because they are gay, they consider that gender-fluid for young children.
yes but phillippe was dressed as a girl much longer to make him "weak" so he wound't fight his brother for the throne. They even gave him a friend dressed as a girl too so he woudn't feel lonely... later, as an adult he did it by choice sometimes (for provocation first and then because he liked it).
They were dressed in dresses because those are harder to outgrow in terms of height than pants
Not just royals. Many boys in previous centuries wore dresses till they were four or five.
Exactly. Children were not thought to have a gender until some age.
Wait actually that’s...ok then
I had tea with that last one, Prince Manvendra. He was visiting town(tulsa, OK) and I just happened to get into a talk about lgbt stuff with a shop owner at the local mall, and she invited me to join her and a small group of people to have a private get together with him, as she'd been in contact with him for years through their respective lgbt activism and he was literally stopping by that evening to visit HER, his friend. he was super chill. talked about his struggles since he came out, how he was disowned and all that and his activism and his plans for his home country. it was a really cool experience that I didn't appreciate properly at the time. it was only a few years ago, but I was dumb enough to only think "holy shit im having tea with a prince." I really wish I had paid more attention to him and what he had to say, rather than just being an extra presence eating the lovely food the shop owner had prepared. and no, I didn't record anything then either, we were asked not to because it was a very private meet.

@@TheKappybook of course relationships weren't just about sex, but the teacher-student thing... You described pederasty. The main reason homosexuality was so much frowned upon in history, because of association to old men having sex with adolescent boys as a "rite of passage". Gongmin was said to be gay or bi. I kinda suspect that he might have been demisexual too. Korea, Goryeo: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gongmin_of_Goryeo
He was deeply in love with his queen Queen Noguk, but it took a while.
(It's in the samguk yusa)
And then Bong Sunbin, in the Joseon era was also said to be a lesbian.
