One of the most helpful lure videos I have seen. I fish Florida lakes and most everyone else on youtube is up North is not very clear water. You gave clear concise options that they mostly never do.

Another great video Ike! It seams so simple. Not only do some of these tips apply to crankbaits vs jerkbaits but the concept also applies to jigs vs spinner baits or top water vs deep diving. You perfectly summed up an entire year of fishing in one video. The main things you should always ask before that first cast. Water clarity and depth, forage, where and how are they feeding. Amazing job Ike!

Good video Mike. On the topic of slimmer bait fish vs wider, I recently picked up the Berkley Juke jerk bait. It's a wider jerk bait that mimics blue gills and sunfish. The best of both worlds!

Good video! Btw In Sweden all Jerkbaits don't have any spoon at all, the bait is totally driven by the rod jerking. The shadowraps are just called wobbler here and fished like a wobbler with jerkbait twitching. :)

I'm fishing castaic lagoon hard this year. The water is very clear compared to the upper lake. I need to invest in some jerk baits before the threadfin start running. I think the crankbait will be more effective in the upper lake and jerkbait in the lower

Thank you. I needed to know everything you described here. Even after 40 years of fishing I really did not understand that (silly me). By the way, I like the "GQ" look. Whats next, tweed sport coat and a V-neck sweater? No offense intended. Though I would buy a tweed sport coat or V-neck sweater with the IKE emblem on it.

Mike you can use a smithwick rogue 20 if you need to get down deeper.

Based on my experience on fishing in Zambia,Africa, the same type of target fish in different water bodies have totally different interests on the baits, even their daily target feed fish are the same. For example, the large mouth bream in stream are agressive but only attack very small slow sinking minnows. In the large river, same fish attacks any sizes of minnow. In the lake, small crankbaits with yellow greenish colour are the only ones can get the same fish. Again, their daily feeding fish are minnow like.
In a small lake I Fish and it is mainly about 12 deep would I use a dt 10 or a dt 14

Bass eye placement allows a bass to see both sides and to the front, it can’t see below it or behind it.
What about clear water with perch and bluegills? Do you match the hatch or match the baitfish silhouette?

But what if you're fishing in shallow murky water where the bass are feeding down? Do I crank it or jerk it?
So quick question. I live in central fl. I have that green tea water color and it's hot right now. I would think personally I would pick a crankbait on these types of areas correct? Appreciate the response, great video.

Pay attention to the colors of your local bait fish / craws . The closer to the natural color pattern the better.

Mike I have a question about color for stain river currents. Should I have bright colors or natural colors for crankbaits and jerkbaits.
Should have a bit of both. Match the Hatch and when all else fails try some shock colors

Larry Moffatt from what I know is when the it’s heavily fished are lots of boats are if your fishing after someone all ready been there I like silent better more natural
Larry Moffatt Silent is better in clearer water, when fish are pressured, and when the bite in general is slower. I wouldn’t start your day with a silent ever. Just switch to it if you’re not getting bit

How can you determine how deep a crank bait or jerk bait dives? After it’s out of the box I forget which ones are shallow or deep.

From what I’ve seen, easy bite, throw a crank. Hard bite throw a jerk. Went yesterday expecting a tough bite and didn’t get much action on a jerk. Switched to a crank and they crushed it.
Some days can be just like that!!

How important is your rod length and line when using a jerk bait? Have trouble getting my Megabass 110+1 to 10 feet?
7ft + rod.. And fluorocarbon line will get you there
