Dude bass fishing is so crazy. The fact that you can deep dive into 15 different categories of lures plus the rods plus the time of year, plus weather conditions, type of fishery, structure, behavior of the fish… I’m about 6 months in and as a salt water angler this world of bass fishing just blows my mind.
I'm a surf fisherman as I live several blocks from the beach. We have some freshwater ponds and lakes literally right across the road from the beach. I think I like LMB fishing as much or more than saltwater. Great video Tyler.
Alot of success with Norman Middle N splatter bass 3/8. Although needs hooks switched out. KVD 1.5 Sqaures great for shallow. Berkley Money Badger is on deck ready to try out this year!
I couldn't agree more with the Norman Middle N, especially in the splatter bass. I keep three of them in my box just in case I lose one. It's the best crankbait on the market, hands down.
I love all your videos. Very detailed yet easy to understand. You give us amateurs a lot to work with. Looking forward to purchasing a crankbait rod so that I can practice for the spring. Keep those vids coming! Huge fan.
My best setup on a deep crank for me has been 20# braid to leader 12#. Ripping that bait off the bottom at contact with a slight pause and man the Bass come absolutely unglued!! Boated a 28 pound bag just last month on lake chickamauga using this technique. Also love this channel this guy is always on point!
I am really glad I watched this because I recently bought 3 Hybrid Hunters. I have already watched Castledines video but I wasn’t thinking much about using it around riprap. I sure am excited about using in areas besides grass flats. Killer video as usual!
Hey Ty I really appreciate your video on cranking because I’ve decided to try and master crank bait fishing and you just helped me a lot thanks brother
This channel has taught me many bass fishing tactics and methods. Thank you for the help. The comments are very generous and like sign posts on the highway, helpful too! Thank you all. Love from Zimbabwe 😍😋
Curtis Hildebrandt just a ton of info on crankbaits took notes on everything you said and will definitely try your cranking retrieves your cranking bait video will work on all the types of lakes I fish , thank you soooo much
I've always put a round-bend hook on the rear and an EWG style (usually the KVD triple grip) on the front since I figure if they are getting the back hook they are usually swiping at it and if they are getting the front hook they are hitting it hard.
Ordered a few about 3 weeks ago Smithwick super Rouge. An a big bandit .It was a accident thought was getting regular size .I was tuned in to this video Thanks
You may not have the following, yet, but the quality of the content is better than many I could name with a few hundred thousand followers. Keep up the great work fam
How do you determine whether you're going to fish a crankbait, chatterbait or a lipless crankbait? How do you decide which one is going to be the most productive at that moment. I love a chatterbait and catch a ton of fish on it, so it's one of my go to baits because I can fish it in pretty much any kind of water and it doesn't get hung up near as bad as a crankbait or rattle trap. Just curious as to what makes you say, this is gonna be the bait I'm gonna catch them on today?
Crankbaits, chatterbaits and lipless cranks - especially with rattles are search baits. They cover a lot of water so they can be excellent to use to build a pattern when first getting onto the water. Use a snap and swap them around to figure out what be hot color wise and if they are hitting it on a pause, what speed etc by how you work the lure. Start off with something similar to the forage and work off from there depending on water clarity. As far as hang ups, in shallow water around timber chatterbait is excellent. Squarebills cranks can be pretty good around rock and rip rap because it will deflect really well. Deep cranks are awesome around submerged weed beds and scattered rocks or wood to zero in on what exactly is holding fish, also for outside deep weed edges - i've boated some good fish running a deep crank parallel to really deep weed edges in very clear water. Lipless do super well around grass like eelgrass and pondweed, as soon as you feel it hit some give it a little rip and it should pull through clean. Lot of times when you rip it free of the grass is when they'll hit it. Jackall Deracoup also does this very well and if you really like chatterbaits you'll probably like those little guys too.
I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Of course if you watch pros on practice day they may have 20 rods on the deck, so you test all three and see which works best. For me, I have no confidence in chatterbaits. Never had any luck on them. I love to use square bills around laydowns and riprap.
@TJ Ellis I have caught some monsters on chatterbaits during the spawn, just gotta change up your retrieve. The 2 best ways I've found to trigger the big ones is to slow roll it then speed it up real fast for about 4 or 5 turns on the reel then let it die for about 2 seconds. The other is to try to make it hit stuff then rip it loose and hang on
Hi there, Werner here from South Africa. We just started MLF season and it is our first season. Your videos are really helpfull. One question, can you use a clip swivel for easy exchange on chatter, spinners, cranks and jigs?
I just started watching fishing vids Like 2 weeks ago.. Have saved numerous of ur vids already. Do u have a video on how to tell what kinda floor the body of water has without having the tech or boat. Thanks!
I always felt I was doing it wrong but I feel like people looked at me weird because I aggressively jerk my lures a little not hard like a hook set but a little aggressive but any time I hooked up it was a big one. Glad I seen this video thank you. I feel more confident now
excellent video covering everything, have used the hybred hunter and it has made the goto list for me on the first trip.. along a similar line of thought, i have a question for anyone here or a video suggestion. how do you sort out the old style baits to make room for the new styles? i have baits form the early 80's that now days are no where near the finish or runabilty of newer baits. once again thank you for great informative videos.
Awesome Video very informative I'm just getting into Fresh Water fishing / lures. Was more Salt water fishing live bait onshore fishing and dead bait. Never that successful with lures. After your videos I feel like I know what I want to do to get more action.
"This can be the last crankbait video you watch" hahaha hahahahahaha HAHAHAHAHAHA! Ty's got jokes. It's no longer up to me. I will watch any crankbait video that comes up in the feed. All joking aside, this is a VERY good video. I've saved it to come back to.
Otherwise, very informative video. Liked it alot. Are learning about pike/musky cranbaits. Not that many are available here but some of them are so freaking good!! Check out the Zalt wobbler(took biggest pike I'm Sweden, record still standing), Westin Platypus is insane!! Such a great bait! Both these are evolutions of the swim wizz with their own peculiarity. Everyone interested in crankbaits should check them out. Westin Jätten is s real old killer too, since 1953. I thing many of these ones could be used in bassfishing!!
I fish a crankbait more than anyone I've ever met. I always have 2-4 cranks tied on at all times of the year everytime I put my boat in the water. I'm a firm believer that you can always learn so I kept watching and I did pick up something that is going to help me so much. Since moving to Alabama current is much more prevalent. Now I got another bullet in my gun when they quit pulling current. Thanks for a good video.
Appreciate the vid. new angler here from victoria australia so a lot of the bass related things don’t apply to me but the principles certainly do! i do have one question, one that i find pretty much every crank bait vid doesn’t explain at all. How is the crank bait supposed to act and feel underwater, and how are you supposed to make it act the way it’s designed to? the reason i ask is i recently bought a atomic hardz chubby suspending lure medium lip. it has a tendency to float on the surface sideways when i cast it far. when i leave it still to sink, and began reeling it in, it just rises to the surface again. i’ve tried reeling fast, reeling slow, giving it some tugs to dig in to the water (which it sometimes does) but it’s never consistent.
Here’s one for you !!!! Back in the 80’s I read a In Fisherman magazine. Al Linder had a short article on boat positioning. And was suggesting to position the boat on the shallow side of. ((. Well up in Minnesota there’s a lot of weedlines in these lakes )). I went out trying that technique and here the famous L. K. Minnetonka has super deep mill foil lines or edges. I grabbed the biggest deepest cranks I had. Mann’s 20-30 plus cranks. I’d throw it out at an obtuse angle too the weed line and burn it right into the bottom edge of the mill foil Where fish were sitting to ambush. Well!!! It works. Sometime I’d have too let it emerged to the surface. On a cloudy windy miserable day I could work so decided to go out there. A huge Muskie followed it up along with the bait once I saw him I cranked it once. He slammed it. Drove itself right into the side on my boat and got all stunned. I’ve done That ever since and it works. Just saying.
Hope someone can tell me if the Ark Invoker Ltd 7 ft composite would be at least as light and balanced as the Tharp???? I have a couple of the Invoker Ltd rods and love them...but no composites. 🤠
Hi Man I am in Thailand and actually from the UK originally. My lure fishing here is mostly snakeheads and barramundi. Firstly thank you for the explanation videos I find some of the techniques applicable and all the information is useful. I wanted to ask why do you and the other US guys I see focus on the gear ratio when I think what your actually talking about is the line retrieve per crank of the handle. Example the Shimano curado DC 150 HG has a gear ratio of 7.4-1 and a line retrieve of 31 inch per crank. If you then compare this to the Curado 300k HG this has a gear ration of 6.6-1 so a lower gear ratio but the retrieve per crank is 35 inch so 4 inch more than the 150. With a larger spool this would be expected but its always confused me as to why in the US the focus is gear ratio but it seems it should be all about the line retrieve per crank?
Lower gear ratios equate to easier reel cranking. The more resistance a lure has ( larger billed crankbaits, spinnerbaits & in line spinners with oversized blades) the more a lower gear reel is desirable because of effortless retrieves. If you want speed wide sweeps of the rod will move the bait faster than any reeling could produce.
Can you advice in generalistic way rods for cranks, spinners and chatter baits for a Bank fisher man like me. Something under 100 dollars? Market is turning so confusing and specific technic. Hard to carry 4 to 10 rods as a bank fisher man
I fished crankbaits for a long time but I'm just starting to learn the ins and outs so to speak cranking is a technique that was never consistent for me but I really want and need to get better at this technique. Thanks for all your help in these videos Keep up the Good Work 👍🏻
Was about to watch it then I realized It was 48 min long I’m gonna have to set some time aside for this one lol.I’m sure it will be good though look forward to watching it.
With the exception of the silent versus rattling crank baits issue, this entire video deals with two things, depth and speed control. Depth is depth., period. Steady retrieve, start, stop, pause, sweep, snap. yo-yoing, jerking, whatever you want to do with your lure, they boil down to speed control. Buck Perry, the father of modern bass fishing structure fishing proved without a doubt the two most important factors in fishing are #1 depth and #2 speed. The entire Lindner family preaches depth and speed control on every one of their Tv shows. If you aren't fishing at the depth the fish are using, you won't catch any thing, regardless of who you are and what gear you are using.
I use a square bill all year long, the difference being is how I chose to retrieve it!! I am always catching fish while others around me are catching nothing!! Water temp can be 40 -86, it doesn't matter, FOCUS on your RETRIEVE, what ever way your getting the most hits, use it that way all day! Other days, the way you did it prior you might get nothing, then when you change the retrieve style , you will notice what method to use that day, everyday is different! I have the most luck with a quick yank, let it pop up, couple cranks, then small quick , short tugs, works almost everytime!
6th sense makes the 77x Swank that's far better in my opinion than the Hybrid Hunter. They also make a smaller 66x. Those are my favorite cranks. They have great hooks so you don't have to change them. I have no idea how 6th sense has not become more popular. There are only a few things I buy that aren't made by them, usually because they don't make them. They are the best by far, I've never had to change a hook or modify anything at all. The colors are crazy good and they aren't that expensive. You can see the quality, they're just better. I'm so glad I found them.
I've NEVER had a problem with the hooks on KVD 1.5 squarebills, for anyone that uses them and sees this tip about swapping hooks, it ain't that serious, at least not with the 1.5's..
One of the biggest pains in the ass about cranking, especially in highly pressured waters, is the amount of other people’s line you are going to get snagged on and pull up. I’ll never understand how someone can break off 20’ of leader and then another 50’ of main line…but I see it all the time when I’m cranking.
Let me do yall a "HUGE" favor. Look up the River2Sea biggie poppa crankbait. I didn't see one in your tackle. Hands down the best crankbait ever created. It's an open secret. So many double digits have came off that lure between me and a buddy.
I’ve fished all of my life, pushing 40 years, and I have never been able to catch a bass on a crank bait. I’ve only ever had one on, and it was like a 10 inch bass, and got off before I landed it. I must be doing something wrong.
Funny, I just started fishing again at 28 since I was a kid and the only two I caught this year were on a crank bait lol. Fishing doesn’t make any sense bro lol
I've always been a plastic fisherman. A lot of worms, crays, wacky rigs, etc. I also fish jigs a lot. The one thing that's always escaped me is crankbait fishing success. I have tried many different types and retrieves but have never figured it out. People who catch bass on crankbaits make me jealous. Help
i prefer to swap out my treble hooks for a single hook. i may keep them less, but as a catch and release angler i prefer injuring the animal as minimally as possible.
I’ve found on smaller bass(cause I don’t catch many bigs 🤣) the treble hooks damage less than a single worm hook. They seem to set the hook themselves or get hooked on the body or don’t leave near as big a hole in the mouth as a worm hook
@@BlairNix-e5w thats a fair point. a single hook provides only a single point of force on the hook site. really depends on where its hooked i guess. i certainly dont want them foul-hooked. With trebles tho, theres usually multiple holes made, smaller fish get hooked in the sides and eyes and stuff... Hard to say which id prefer if i were a fish lol theres more issues for me with trebles tho, not simply more hooks. trebles catch weeds like crazy and are often poorly made hooks in comparison (at least stock hooks on lures). single hooks are also a lot easier to free a fish from than trebles. idk how many times i get 2/3 hooks out only for the fish to flop and rehook itself. It also really depends on what kind of fish im after. we go trout fishing, its single hooks with no barb. Bass fishing, trebles are used more often, keeping barbs. Pike , whatever i can get lol
Any1 think the 6 9 heavy majorcraft could handle frog simi big swimbaits nothing crazy I fish from bank usually lake Erie so need ot be beefy but nothing crazy

Your 100% correct on this how to thanks for sharing 🎣
"The Last Crankbait Video You'll Ever Watch"...(until you post the next one) 😄. Great info as always Ty!
So true lol
Awesome video! Thank you!
I like to let the crankbait float to the top and intermittently reel it so it dives to the top of the cover or structure, then let it float back up.
Did I notice all oval split rings? Are round a problem? Great video...
What's your thoughts about using a snap to connect to the crankbait?
Use a snap,not a swivel
What are your settings on your bait caster??
Hope someone can tell me if the Ark Invoker Ltd 7 ft composite would be at least as light and balanced as the Tharp???? I have a couple of the Invoker Ltd rods and love them...but no composites. 🤠

What about speed of retrieve ?
why do you slam the lure on the water sometimes before casting?
Clearing trash or slime from lure
To get weeds and gunk off.

Great tips But nunber 1 tip should be buy a bass fishing boat. If its stuck...just drive the boat near and rip it from all angle.
I do think speed has a lot to do with depth of a crank bait also. Other 3 I agree with
Awesome video!!!
I've NEVER had a problem with the hooks on KVD 1.5 squarebills, for anyone that uses them and sees this tip about swapping hooks, it ain't that serious, at least not with the 1.5's..
Fish those Mustad trebles and then see if you still think that.
Great video. I guess I need to break out my hybrid hunters.
Deep cranking is relevant to the water depth. Some of our waters average 5 to 6 feet deep.
Bass fishermen are by far the best fishers
Great stuff tks
One of the biggest pains in the ass about cranking, especially in highly pressured waters, is the amount of other people’s line you are going to get snagged on and pull up. I’ll never understand how someone can break off 20’ of leader and then another 50’ of main line…but I see it all the time when I’m cranking.
where's the video link of Todd?
Hey guys, can someone please help me with finding the contest area where you enter your email? Thank ...
Mann's Deep Diving Razorback is the best!
Bro you gotta try the bill Lewis atv
Please make a video of crank-baits targeting things that fish eat out of the water.
Let me do yall a "HUGE" favor. Look up the River2Sea biggie poppa crankbait. I didn't see one in your tackle. Hands down the best crankbait ever created. It's an open secret. So many double digits have came off that lure between me and a buddy.
You had the Batman voice when you were saying that you had him like a taco 😂
Fishing a crankbait like a jerkbait is the best way I found for me in my situations.
Yo zuri have some great hooks stock
Just like to say thank you for all the great tips and tricks.🎣💕🇺🇸
Lol ud be surprised how many fish ull catch with the original Rat-L-Trap in fresh AND saltwater!🤣 Bass love em
If you ever need some company on the boat, let me know! I'm just south of columbus
You are out there fishing and want to change hooks because of fishing are hitting hard or not so hard?
That 8.0 is money dude.
Dude. I got my best bag ever after doing what I learned from you.thank you
I’ve fished all of my life, pushing 40 years, and I have never been able to catch a bass on a crank bait.
Got to get some hybrids i guess
I think he caught some fish and gave it a good effort .
Help
I like the videos, but when I look for some things sportsman outfitters don’t have .
i prefer to swap out my treble hooks for a single hook. i may keep them less, but as a catch and release angler i prefer injuring the animal as minimally as possible.
Hard to say which id prefer if i were a fish lol
theres more issues for me with trebles tho, not simply more hooks. trebles catch weeds like crazy and are often poorly made hooks in comparison (at least stock hooks on lures). single hooks are also a lot easier to free a fish from than trebles. idk how many times i get 2/3 hooks out only for the fish to flop and rehook itself.
Bass are smart af and they are tricky gotta be smarter lol I gotta learn to work my crank lips and lip less I just lost somwtimes
