      @@NathanJamesLarsen Yeah he’s right man, and you’re right too whoever you guys should still do a video with a “fuller” kit, some more pieces on it, a kit set up that lots of modern drummers today use, 2, 3 toms, kick, snare, hats, ride, 1, 2 crashes

      @CaptainShitacularAVL ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NathanJamesLarsenyeah but you in particular should set that up and try it out, most people aren't just rocking a kick snare hihat combo.

      Umm there wasn’t a slight sizzle. The hi hat opening up even that little will be a drastic change to the sound.
      They probably recorded a couple takes and filmed it and the drummer played it differently than the record.

    Why is the kick drum backwards?

  • @JesseQuinn
    @JesseQuinn ปีที่แล้ว +3

    True, but you’d really have to EQ the kit mic to separate the hh from the snare. HH does sound quite loud, and the snare has no high end. But for the single mic the mix does suffice! Great example 👊

    • @NathanJamesLarsen
      @NathanJamesLarsen  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Using a good mic is really important for this. But other than that it's just how the mic is angled it's naturally picking up a good amount of hi hat even while angled toward the snare. If you use a dynamic mic it won't capture the hat as much at all

      @AC-kw7xx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NathanJamesLarsen serious question though. The intent was to show you can record quality sounding drums with 2 mics right? But all you have done is replace what was recorded with samples. You could do the same thing with 1 mic and it would sound the same as what you have here. What does the kit sound like by itself? Does it still sound good with 2 mics without the samples?

    • @NathanJamesLarsen
      @NathanJamesLarsen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AC-kw7xx The punchy snare you get in this is how it was recorded - heavy use of distressor (compressor) and using what's called a "Phat Snare" which is a piece that goes on top of the snare head that gives the snare the really deep and punchy sound that DOES sound sampled. the kit would sound a lot more "natural" if I changed how the kit was actually setup. I can make a video actually showing the raw sound of the snare, putting the phat snare on, and then also utilizing the smashed distressor to show how much it manipulates the sound of the kit.
      Drum processing can immensely transform a kit.
