I'm an amputee and this is my home defense shotgun. Its light about 5lbs, has a pitcantinny rail on top for a flashlight. It gives me 5 fast shots. With an o/a length of 38in and most of the weight shifted to the rear its fast pointing. I never thought of it as a hunting tool just an effective home defense shotgun for me. Good vid Paul.

@@orpheus280 You're correct sir! I love bullpups even have a couple 22 BPs. But I live in commiefornia, no pistol grip centerfire semiautos allowed without heavy mods that in the end defeat the utility of the BP. AZ one of these days.

Sir. Please consider a better weapons system. A 20ga Stoeger coach gun for example.
More pellets, not much more recoil and a saddle holster is reasonably easy to attach to most wheelchair designs, although practice is definitely required.
      Plus, legal in CA.

    • @frequentfrenzied
      @frequentfrenzied 4 ปีที่แล้ว +80

@@davidjftooley I could be wrong and please correct me if I am but I think what Terry means is that this is an excellent weapon to choose if you only have one arm. Most conventional stocked firearms can probably be used almost normally from a seated position if you happen to be missing a leg but if an arm is missing then that complicates things quite a bit. With this rifle you don't have to mess with charging handles, pumps, levers, magazines, or anything else like that. Just point and pull the trigger.

This the weapon I bought for my wife to use in home defense. It’s is very light, especially the non wood version, minimal recoil and it is stupidly simple to operate and has minimal failure scenarios. In a stress situation I didn’t feel comfortable with my wife and a pump shotgun or even a semi auto. I put a light on it with a bright hot spot, she basically points the light hot spot at a target and pulls the trigger. It’s loaded with federal buck shot and works well for a smaller female.

I think Paul nailed this review. The one I own, will shoot the .45 colts out to 50 yards in 5 inch groups with no issues. Something that he could have done with his second .45 colt ammo choice. I have never bother shooting slugs since the .45 colt would be heavier hitting than any .410 slugs. I have found that most buckshot to group well out to about 20 yards and I was surprised that most brands really seem to spread out at 25 yards. I definitely agree that most .410 smooth bore shotguns will do a better job of holding a pattern out to 25 yards than this rifle. So what would make this a firearm you may want to own? Paul said it, (home defense for inexperienced firearm users or those that are recoil sensitive ). It's light, short, has very little recoil and a simple manual of arms. With 5 rounds of .45 colt or defensive buckshot you have a solid defensive firearm. Even a 18 or 20 inch pump .410 shotguns will be 4 to 6 inches longer overall, and require more dexterity and practice to use efficiently than this little rifle.

Personally I'd REALLY love if a better manufacturer gets on making their own revolving carbine of the same caliber, 'cause I don't have the disposable income to just buy for style and then have a letdown at the range, but some people find the price low enough to get that carbine, "who cares if the groupings aren't great I can pose with it and feel like a modern cowboy".
It's not about being financially masochistic, the looks still give something back to the owner to feel positive about their purchase.

I didn't say you can't kill with it. Simply that I do not like the firearm.
But if you want to talk ballistics, I'll bite. First, you can take down an elephant with a 22. Most any caliber is capable of killing anything. Now for the judge specifically. The pistol is most definitely underpowered. Especially compared to people's expectations. You can help that a bit by buying the right ammo. If you buy the judge specific loads, you should get a little more punch. Not due to any certain shot size, or special disc like you see in the pdx offerings. Rather the powders used. They use faster burning powders to negate the lack of a barrel. (And maybe theoretically whatever you may loose from the cylinder gap vs a classic sealed up shotgun. Though I doubt that is even measurable)
All that being said, that's not the only reason I dont like the gun. Taurus is one of the reasons. Even if they finally are producing a decent product, and no longer selling guns to Yemeni terrorists, I will never own another Taurus, simply on principle. Along with the poor ballistics (even with the $1 a round ammo), the inefficient nature due to the previously mentioned points, and less than ideal form factor of a fireball shooting revolver with a comically large cylinder.
I'd never judge (no pun intended) or underestimate anyone carrying it. But that's my POV on the weapon.

Some firearm models are made using unusual designs and being unique in nature. This seems to fit this one. It is a carbine version of the pistol model. It is the same as buying a 9mm pistol accompany with 9mm carbine that uses the same magazines. Someone who bought the pistol might like the carbine model too. It might not pass the rules for Duck hunting; but is it a rifle or is it a shotgun. If it is a rifle it is likely not illegal for hunting most places whatever you have it loaded with. That will have to be decided by the first game warden you likely might meet. If you are worried; just use wooden plugs in the cylinders to reduce the capacity to three shots. That alone would be fun to see what they would think about its legal standings.

You want one until you fire one, because cylinder gap is a thing on rifle length-revolvers too. The Cobray Street Sweeper was terrible for many other reasons, but having your forearm hit with the concussion and unburnt powder every shot certainly didn't help.

@Apex Gemini, As per Mr. H. near the end of the video. Escaping gas and ejecta was one of the prime reasons revolver-rifles died out over a century ago. The deflection features on this contemporary weapon add a little weight to it with a lot more complexity to its unloading/loading cycle. The big negatory from me is just how finicky this gun is with ammunition vs. accuracy potential.

I bought a Taurus Judge when they first came out. Mine does not shoot the 3-inch Shotshells. The one that Mr Harrell has is a larger later model. Mine has a 3 inch barrel and a really nice black finish on it . and it is fairly accurate at 7 to 15 yd. I once shot it at 50 yards into a 8 inch paper plate and put all five rounds into it with American Eagle 230 grain soft points. I just consider it a short-range blaster. I just keep it as a novelty but I have had quite a few people want to buy it from me because they like the finish on it

I've recently gotten to compare a box of the cheapest ammo my local gun store had available to two boxes of "match grade" ammo, and I have to say the results were astonishing. Five shots per group at 125 yards. With the "premium" ammo, the shots were barely more than one and a half inches apart, while with the cheap ammo, it was all over the place. I even changed ammo types in between to make sure it wasn't me "warming up" or losing focus or such.

I wonder how many other firearms we don't get here that come out in Australia and the United Kingdom

Gunbroker currently has a 44mag listed. I've seen the 44 at a shop near me, oh, 5 yrs ago or so, and was told they've had the 22/22mag in, and even saw a 28ga at one point. Nothing fantastic about their performance, but sometimes you just want to shoot something fun and mechanical.

I've never seen a .44 Mag model in the UK. Plenty of the .22 convertible models about but they aren't great. I'd buy a .44 Mag version, better get in touch with the importer!

would not mind seeing how it performs in .22Mag and .22. I have had both in handguns/rifles. Be interesting to see if it is a firearm design issue versus a Caliber issue with them.

@@mindofmadness5593 They are known for having a laughably long forcing cone that you can literally fit a complete cartridge down inside. This leads to a huge velocity loss, .22 Mags basically come out at LR speeds.

@@ApurtureSci I heard the same thing, damn shame too, because otherwise I would have been interested back when the .22s were still available without special ordering.

You're a great firearms teacher. Honestly you changed my opinion on multiple things such as .22 short, and the effectiveness of .22 in general. So much so I bought a .22 henry lever action. I wish for one day I meet you on the range, and see that Henry in the hands of a skilled marksman.

Poor Paul. Always reviewing the crummy guns so we dont make mistakes and buy them. Thank you for your sacrifice.
I see that Mossberg makes a 590 in 410 now. The only difference I bet is that It holds more ammo.

Recoil is very light almost non existent. My wife is small in stature and the Mossberg is perfect for her. I installed a youth stock for her as well, made all the difference for her.

My first gun was a Mossberg 510 in .410. It's killed countless squirrels, rabbits, and deer. I've always been curious about how it compares to rifle or pistol penetration.

I would like to point out that rifled slugs from shotguns in general lose accuracy when fired through a rifled barrel. They’re designed for smooth bore barrels, I think a better test in regards to the slugs would be to test out 410 slugs that are meant to be fired through a rifled barrel.
