    Took the kids to Tombstone, AZ for a day trip back in May. While there I entered a raffle to win either a revolver or a lever action rifle. Labor Day weekend I got the call that I won the rifle. Turned out to be this very gun. Haven’t had the pleasure of shooting it yet but can’t wait to give it a try.

    I just cleaned my two Colt .45's one a SAA and the other the Cowboy model just for the heck of it !!! I want one of these carbines in .45 Colt as well but I believe I would opt for the 20 inch barrel over the 16 inch barrel and I also want one of the Winchester 1873 model by Miroku in the .45 Colt caliber as well in the 20 inch barrel also !!! I got to save some more Benjamins !!

    I have a Rossi 16” with the large lever in 45LC and a early Ruger Vacaro also in 45LC - I load Hornady 300 gr to 44 mag spec s which makes this a viable combo for big Texas hogs - a real shooter for sure.

    Good real time illustration of the advantage of same caliber for revolver and carbine. These R92s are good shooters overall. Fine stainless finish on that one. I have the more standard finish one in .45 Colt and pairs well with my Ruger Blackhawk Turnbull Bisley. Just add a Bond Arms .45 Colt derringer for back up and really good to go. Thanks sir.

      I have a Marlin 1894 in 357mag. Mine stays on out to 100yds in the lowest notch, then each notch adds about 60 yards to POI. I walked it out to 300 yards on a plowed field, using an elm tree as a rest. My longest hit was a measured 240 yards on a coyote. But luck was with me, I held over and connected.
      Btw, the coyote was trying to pull down a calve in the lot. That's a big no-no on the farm.

    No need to adjust sights out to 100yds. The .45colts don't just fall out of the barrel. Once I get my sights set @ 50 i never touch 'em again. It's for hunting/ plinking.. if you're looking for tighter groups try a peep sight...but this round is a viable w/t round out to 75/100yds, .44mag is another one, even in .357 mag. Don't sell these short in hunting Easter w/t's or hogs. Light, easy to carry, they can put 8 to 10 rounds on target in 10 seconds or less. CAS....It is a viable hunting format, that can be used to defend your life or property, or in a back yard plinking fun filled afternoon. Plus they look cool. Fact is you can never get too many lever action rifles or sa revolvers.

    Once upon a time I owned a Rossi, Puma .357 mag. rifle. I shoot it so much I wore it out. I called it my pet and carried it in the ranch truck all the time. I liked it so much I bought a .44 mag. Rossi model 92. The two rifles were exactly the same size causing the barrel of the .44 mag. to be much thinner. If only shooting the .44 once or twice it was not a problem but if I fired that rifle a number of times after about 3 shots the barrel would heat up and the rifle started slinging rounds all over the place. It was sold to a friend that guided horseback hunts and took dudes camping. He used it as a camp rifle to protect against bear. I wonder if this .45 Colt will heat up as much as the .44 did.

I'm human and make errors, the important thing I like to show off is what most shooters will experience from regular shooting, hence why I don't really do bench shooting. By and large, the only time I really crap on a gun or piece of equipment is when there are legit major issues I spot. The bearman derringer videos are a great example of bonafide quality issues. Anyway, thanks for watching and thanks for the input!

      I went back and yes, there’s like a 1/2 inch gap when pulling the trigger.
      The most likely reason of all that mediocre grouping...
      One has to gently PULL the trigger.
      Rest the meaty part of your finger on the trigger and when ready, just apply a little force backwards and that’s it.

    I noticed one thing about that rifle the '92 lever action Rossi shoots a long range group it don't if you're right on it you're you can hit whatever you need to hit with but it's a long range rifle That's the cool part with that 16-in barrel carbine it can really shoot it long distances and it's wonderful but with the right bullet grain you can drop a deer better than you were shooting with a 30-30 at a long distance with less recoil that's the cool part it's an excellent deer rifle for a beginner and it's just a wonderful hard hitting cartridge and you can literally put the rounds down range with 10 rounds in the gun nine in the magazine one of the chamber yeah it holds 10 shots and you can do a lot of damage with 10 shots that's 20 rounds that you're shooting out of that gun each time you put in 10 rounds in it

    Buck horn sights are okay, but not very accurate, as a matter of fact, I didn't like the buck horns at all.
    If you don't like a red dot or a tactical scope, install a peep sight, it will make you much more accurate.
    I have a Henry, so installing a tactical scope was simple and easy because it's a side ejection.
    Like my Henry in 45 colt, yours can handle 45 colt +P rounds, that is what you should use for hunting.
    I like the Buffalo Bore Deer Grenade, that round turns your Rossi into a poor mans 45-70, yeah that bullet has that much juice.

    • @jreed10291974
      @jreed10291974 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No need for anything other than a 255 RNFP over 8.5 grains of unique or 6.5 grains of red dot either one of them loads will go stem to stern in a 300 lbs hog at 100 yards. Also your henry is a 336 action good for about 28k psi the Rossi is good up to 55k to 65k psi the 92 action is superior to the 336.

    • @Diemerstein
      @Diemerstein ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jreed10291974 No Sir, according to Company president Anthony Imperato states that the Big Boy can handle any +P rounds made in excess of 36,000 psi.
      As for the action, it is sorta 336, but it also not, it is a modern designed rifle meant to look and feel classic, but designed to handle much hotter loads.
      Not all Rossi's can go 55k to 65k psi.
      My Rossi R92 454 Casull loads are about 50k psi, and it's beefier than my Rossi R92 44 magnum, the idea of loading a 44 magnum to 65k psi would most likely blow the thing up.
      To give you an idea what a 454 casull feels like in a Rossi.
      A 12 gauge shot gun firing 1200 fps ammo delivers 18 ft/lbs of recoil energy.
      My Rossi 454 casull delivers 29 ft/lbs of recoil energy, that is beyond what a 45-70 produces and just short of a 300 winmag, and that is at 50k psi and that is stupid power.
      So no, I don't think the Rossi will handle 65k psi, that is just insane.

    • @rifleman17hmrshooter

      Correct, but at the time it was still a new offering. Generally I'll make a video and schedule it for release, which can be months, depending on how many I can shoot during a period of time. I like to maintain a regular schedule so viewers can expect when to see the newest video. But, the majority of their products are tube loaders, which I particularly enjoy, but you are correct they do offer side loaders now.

    I have the same one in .357 Mag, but I can get 11 in the tube. Is your rifle a 16"? It looks a little short. You might also try some rubber crutch tips on that tripod when shooting from your deck. It was really sliding around on you. Oh, I also replaced that junky safety on the bolt with a peep sight from Steve's Guns. He has lots of different parts you can get for those little carbines.

    • @rifleman17hmrshooter
      @rifleman17hmrshooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah mine's a 16", good call on the tripod suggestion, it's great for general use especially on soft ground but on hard surfaces it likes to dance sometimes under recoil. I'm wondering if the 357 is a flatter shooter, those 45s are like throwing a Buick lol thanks for watching!

    My Rossi in 45 Colt had a .454” bore. Most modern ammo will be .452”. If you reload, cast and shoot .455” bullets. Front sight was also loose. Sent it to Rossi in March 2021. It’s still there….waiting on a barrel and it’s now October 2021. Probably on a container ship awaiting its unloading. Let’s go Brandon!
    *Edit 1/8/22* Rossi sent me a new 92. Bore is also .454” at least the chamber is within SAAMI.

    I remain confused about whether this carbine was accurate for you. Points I noted: it was fine at 25 yards. At 50 and 100 I’m not sure. And, sometimes the action is “sticky” meaning a cartridge won’t feed unless you jiggle the lever a bit - is that correct?

      I'm planning a part 2. I've shot it since and it's a darn good rifle. I've been testing out different ammunition too. The action being sticky is an inherent thing with it, not as slick as a Henry.

      @@rifleman17hmrshooter One thing about it is I'm looking for some 300 grain bullets for it and I guarantee you that little rifle is probably the best little rifle I ever had That's a first time I've ever had a lever action 45 caliber Rossi 92 and it beats a Henry all the pieces because of Henry cannot load from the side it can but they recommended not to then you got to load it from the tip of the magazine where the cutout is It's just way too expensive for a Henry they want at least $800 right off the bat but with a Rossi it's less than$ 699 And that's the perfect price for me I can deal with it but you can't beat a Rossi at all points of anything then you can take the firing safety switch and turn it into a plug That's a good thing because of 92 don't need no safety switch it's got a half cocked just like the regular Winchester 92 everything's on half cocked You can't beat that but I am looking for some 300 grain bullets and I've got a holster being made in a gun belt for that carbine to put on my back
