The footage from Preston was outstanding. I can't think of a more iconic loco to back onto a failed 50 than a 40. It brought back fond memories of the 1970's, and the 20s+37s only added to the nostalga. The team have done a remarkable job on 45118. Probably the best video i've watched all year, thanks, Colin.
Yet another fab film packed with great takes. Especially loved the long take of the peak coming into Preston. Very nostalgic and reminds me of happy childhood Saturdays on WBQ seeing the Bangor - Newcastle services pass through usually with a peak at the front.
A brilliant video Les some awesome footage there matey that took me back 60 yrs or so when i was out and about every week end,🤣 superb captures top man Les take a bow matey an excellent vid thanks for sharing do take care a t b Syd 👍😀
Excellent coverage Les, can still remember 45’s and in particular this one on the st Pancras Sheffield service, where’s the time gone?. All the best for now.
hi Les, what a wonderful video, just like going back to the 60's with steam and diesel as i remember them apart from that ugly pendolino.D400 looks FAB in BR blue although i think it suffered from a coolant leak.i remember the Peaks out of St Pancras stn in the 70's, the rolling stock looks good as well
@@petersmith4455 I t looked great and good on lsl crew for not stopping the charter and removing the 50. Yes coolant leaking not spotted due to a faulty gauge.
Great train video as usual Les. Thank you. BUT, if you pause the video on 14 minutes what a terrible picture of man-made ugliness and dereliction lies before you! Such a disaster ....... but happily countered by the lovely Avenham and Miller Park which lies just behind the jungle on the left of the picture. I think we can safely say that others (i.e. not Notwork (sic) Rail) have responsibility for maintaining the park! Kudos 👍 to them!
That used to be a handsome approach to Preston. The same applies to the old Park Hotel / council offices now derelict. Glad you enjoed the video though
Hiya Leslie I was delivering with asda at lambrig looked out 4 a few of ya ! Cameras everywhere lol 😂 had a crack with one said a old diesel on way ! Grand video !
Hi mate, keep on delivering excellent videos. I see Carlisle Edinburgh Preston ect have very good service to Manchester Airport, yet I'm in Wigan that's a borough of Greater Manchester and we have no direct train that goes to Manchester airport.
I'm not sure but I think they run through Chorley, totally missing Wigan. Maybe the electrification of the line between Wigan and Bolton will change this. I'm in Ince and the station is closed. The bridge will be coming out soon and the platform lengthened, so let's hope as this line can be accessed through platform 1 at Wigan northwestern.
Great video Les, nice to bump into you however brief up there in Carlisle. That bloody Northern unit got in the way of everyone with the 20's/37's I see haha.
Thank you for spending so much of your day filming this and sharing with us. The sound reproduction is superb. Not sure if it's the equipment you use or the way it's presented by You Tube ?
Does anyone know (or remember) what the yellow window on the two former ScotRail coaches was for? 10:36 The black and yellow window sticker on the 331 means … what? Now I know why the S&C is known as the 'Long Drag'. You saw D67 leave Carlisle and you were in Preston to see it arrive. Did that 3-loco tour go round the Little North Western circle?
@@LeslieGilpinRailways True, but at stations you are guaranteed a bit of noise as they set off, I've picked uphill locations thinking I'd get a bit of thrash and they've been backing off - nothing is a dead cert!
Hi the 50 passed Shap summit at 42 mph with NO assistance from the peak. Fearless failed at Eden Valley Loop. 45118 providing the power to Carlisle. The tour kept good time till track failure at Preston in the evening. The 37’s in typical style recovered time but we were held outside Preston. Fantastic tour only beaten by The Dambuster in 1988
Thanks for the details. I was given details by the Peak driver but kept my comments fairly general. I was really suprised all went well until the delayed arrival of the 37s and 20s. In fact I never realised they were late as it was such a good day that I didnt bother looking at RTT!
This is one for the lovers of 50s/60s diesel traction. Good to see one of the oldest survivors rescuing her slightly less elderly sister. I happened to catch a clip of Tangmere departing Basingstoke in the mid 1960s recently: she slipped and slid her way out of that station too....! That filiming spot between the OLE is brilliant.
Oh dear.. The deplorable amount of vegetation on those tracks is disgusting. Even BR did better than this 😢. Where's the Chapman Weed train with its 20s when you need it ?
Given the time and effort Les puts into both filming and editing these films, which provide a real insight into what is going on in Carlisle, I’ve got to say this comment is less than gracious. It’s certainly not in the spirit of all the people like Les that produce films about the rail network.
@@DavePemberton-x1b if you take time to read the title of the video I make no such claim. Delays were down, as stated, to signalling issues. In fact I do mention that the 50 failed at speed and the driver of the Peak tells me he controlled the spread of the train past Penrith where a passenger train had stopped ahead. The delays started with the late arrival of the classes 37 and 20s in the early evening.
Im not distrespecting Les, if fact i watch his channel. But if you want to know i was actually on the 50. My point was the 50 did not contribute to any delay. Sorry for any offence Les. Keep the videos coming.@GenreFilmsUK
Not a problem. I think the crew did well to make it look like the 50 was just sailing into Carlisle! In fact it wasn't until yesterday morning I was given authoritative information from the man on the Peak

Wow! That was a shiny vintage diesel spectacular, Les. Well done for catching them all so beautifully, a real treat.
Many thanks! Im told that the 40 and 20s were cleaned by hand for extra sparkle. One driver was upset that a bird had 'christened" the Peak :o}
That was nuts!! Plus the best "zoomy" shot you've ever done of the Peak crossing over down that one end. Superb Leslie.

I take it the cab controls in the Class 50 are controlling the 45 at the rear?
No just the drivers in radio contact. The 50 driver would be able to control the brakes, the Peak driver controlled the power.
