    I walked this one in 1986, all by myself. Watching this video is nostalgia for me. Thank you for sharing this!

      Did that track 46 years ago 3 Aussie girls who had never hiked. they last 3 days. 3 of us finished.

      I walked that in 1977 with 3 girls from perth and two guys from the USA. Had to fly the girls out after 3 days thanks to Search and Rescue. Met them on the trail. Took us 12 days but no rain. Muddy than hell but the sand fly competitions at night. They fly into your candle. The one with the most sand flies wins a buck.

    Did the Dusky from 1 to 12 march 1988. From West Arm (Lake Manapouri) to Dusky Sound, Dusky Sound to Lake Hauroko, Lake Hauroko back to West Arm. It took me 12 days, including 2 hutdays (one day fishing at Dusky-sound, one day for climbing Mount Tamatea near Lake Roe). Wet, hard, muddy, by times dangerous tramping. Great adventure though, wish I could still do stuff like this !

    You had it to yourselves, like the old days. Love the 'sandfly central'. Just as I remember it.

    Did the track out to Supper Cove back in Easter 1970, it rained the night at the cove and we swam back up the Seaforth, the rise in river level flooded back into the bush, how we crossed some of the flooded side streams I do not know. The Loch Marie Hut was not built, but there was food drop for the builders. We had no choice but to cross the walk wire even though parts of the top wires were under water and a long swim through the bush to dry land was required. We were benighted on the tops of the Pleasant Range and spent a cold night under a rock when dawn arrived we were greeted by deep new snow. We still managed to miss the water taxi back down lake Hauroko. Did again solo in 2014 in a NW storm, crossing center pass the track was a waterfall and descending was almost swept away by a vast torrent running down the track. So you were very lucky with weather. I can also attest the the high tide route is a total nightmare, especially following the benched and graded route below LM

    Did you guys also do the 12 day Stewart Island/Rakiura circuit? if you haven't, I would thoroughly recommend it. Best to pace yourself through and do 1 hut per day. I wouldn't recommend skipping any huts because it's tough!

    • @nick_kowalski_film
      @nick_kowalski_film  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Annie, yeah deff opportunity for packrafting around there, we actually saw in the hut books there was a packrafter around the area, not necessarily easier but could be cool
