BAND MAID is a performance band ... meant to be appreciated LIVE. Since we have started here with BAND MAID for toddlers I would suggest one of the BAND MAID standards for live listening, DOMINATION or FREEDOM (you will find your missing drum solo in FREEDOM). Enjoy your trip down the pigeon hole!
I don’t know if you heard other Band Maid songs but they are exceptional. This is a great older song but they’ve progressed immensely since then and are making absolutely rock masterpieces these days - I think they’re now the best band on the planet. They have added significant complexity and virtuosity in their playing and arrangements but have kept the simplicity at the same time - I don’t know how they do it but they create banger after banger.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. That feels like an eternity ago... They are SO MUCH BETTER now, especially LIVE, they have a lot of livevideos on their TH-cam Channel, you should check them out. They are really versatile, goddamn talented, writing their own songs, are great characters and you always have a smile on your face hearing their music, they know to do exceptional and technical hardrock with catchy chorusses! For me personally they are the best rockband on earth right now! Greetings from Germany
Band-Maid was formed in 2013 by the back up vocalist/rhythm guitar (Miku). She used to work in Japanese Maid Cafes and wanted to have the contrast of pretty maids and rock and roll. She recruited Kanami (the lead guitarist and composer of most songs) who knew Akane (drummer) and Akane knew Misa (basist) from Tokyo School of Music. The only person that auditioned for the band was Saiki (lead singer). They are an organic band and they are all very good friends.
They are insanely talented. Check out Daydreaming from their youtube channel. It is a masterpiece. They play multiple genre: punk, hard rock, heavy metal, classic rock, ballads...
There are Band-Maid drum solos to be found and I'm waiting for one to ambush you in the best possible way.

Great reaction. That MV is from 2014. You should now check out their 2021 official live version of "Thrill" to see/hear how much Band-Maid has improved and matured. That band is way better live than in the studio, so stick with the concert videos on their TH-cam channel. For a killer drum solo, watch the official live "Freedom".
Tho the Maids looked awkward in their first MV "Thrill", even then Kanami was rocking the coolest power stance in Hard Rock history :)

The difference between the looks and sound is what they call the gap, not what you expect. As for the band they are a force and absolute monsters live. Miku the singer/guitarist with the the twin tails may be the most perfect woman or should I say centuries old pigeon in the world.

This song is the make-it-or-break-it video for Band Maid. In fact at this point Miku couldn't even play the guitar since she thought she was only going to be a vocalist in the band. However this song did so well they decided that Band-Maid was going to be a successful project and this gave them the exposure and financial wherewithal to get started. This is pre-Goth Saiki and Misa!
The best live rock band of the last 30 years or more.
Boy are you guys in for a treat with these ladies. This was their breakout song/video. Prior to this they were thinking of calling it quits. Since this song release they have only gotten better. They've worked with Tony Visconti on The Dragon Cries. They have some great instrumentals like Onset. Generally, they sound way better on their live versions so check those out.
This is their first MV, this is just a beginner... Check out "Domination" Live 2020.. They cross several rock sounds.. Heavy and punk rock, pop rock and even old school groove rock... In 2013 when Miku (rhythm guitar/ backing vocals) formed this band labels looked for what they call "the gap" in Japan.. A blend of two unusual things to surprise the listener, so they started with a band of kick ass musicians playing hard rock music in the typical Japanese Maid Cafe Uniforms.. They have since taken full artistic control of their music, you will see as you go thru a few songs.. The song "Play" live 2020 is another to get you started down the Band Maid rabbit hole..

Oh boy. You guys have just licked the frosting off the spoon. You haven't reached the cake, and it is multi-layered. Try around 100 songs with most being written by the musical geniuses Kanmai Tono, lead guitarist and lyricist Miku Kobato, rhythm guitar. You can go two ways, listen to more of their older stuff to get an idea of how diverse their music is. Or just go back and forth with new and old to see how far they have come as a band. Either way I would bet you become part of the Band Maid army. Welcome aboard.
Mr Colleman said hed be like "eh" if he saw them walk on stage, but 2 songs in and you'll be a Maidiac forever lol. Their live stuff is exceptional. The starter trinity are usually "Domination" (live), "Freedom" (live), and "Play" (live). There's a litteral ton of great music coming from them and there's really no bad choice. Enjoy the ride. Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual solo.
Next, you have to listen to them live. They are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio.

Their first EP was very pop and not what they wanted to do. They told their management that this (Thrill) was what they wanted to do. They weren't allowed to record songs they wrote until their 3rd EP, which had only one of their songs - Alone, and a 2nd where they wrote the lyrics - Freedom. Their 1st full-length album - Just Bring It - is when songs written by the band started being featured, and that's when it starts getting really good.
In fairness to their management, I think they were "in development" and then when Kanami wrote "Alone" management said "You're ready now. Do a full album of your own stuff."
@@stevehall5128, management (recording executives) doesn't know what good music is. They know what is profitable. I'm sure leaving Gump and signing with Crown Stones had something to do with them recording their own material.
@@danwiesdamageinc Yeah but if I remember correctly, Gump is Platinum Passport's in-house label and they're STILL with PP for management. See what I mean? I think PP's aim was to get them to the point where they could move to a "real" label but still be their management company. Gump is the development label so PP's artists can put out songs, start a fan base, and get picked up by bigger record companies. It's not like they got stolen away from or "ditched" Gump if they're still working with/for the company that owns Gump.
EDIT: Another way of looking at it is, PP/Gump supported them (literally, so they could pay their rent) until they got to the point where Crown Stones said, "We'd like to sign you."

This is a 2014 offering, this song still kicks ass but they have soooooo much more. These girls are true rockers....keep going. check out "Blooming" MV or "Domination" LIVE Feb14th 2020. If you want a nice rock groove "Manners" MV. If you wants drums, "Freedom " LIVE from Feb 14th 2020....or the other 100 songs they have. They have pretty much settled on their individual maid outfits which is much different from this "Thrill" MV.

Thank you for your first reaction to the best rock group on earth today! This was the song that got me hooked on these talented ladies! Whatever you do keep on this journey, the pigeon hole is deep and is very hard to climb out of. Band-Maid has over 100 great songs that are really good! Their incorporation of all genre of rock in their music is astonishing! They are better live!!

Hey, you have found the best Hard Rock band of the last 30 years! Their live shows are from another world, insane. I think that the next song you should try is a live one. His song Domination is a good place to start.
Nice reaction to Band Maid, interesting idea, I love The Warning, big Fan of Band Maid, they both have their own style, I think actually that could go over really well, if it wasn't for this covid stuff.... Band Maid has an interesting story of how they form to where they are now, Band Maid is legit, maybe the best rock band currently active, and may times over looked, hopefully you guys will continue down this road with Band Maid, give them more exposure, if you have a soft spot for Rock music, it will be worth it!

Enjoy the ride Gents - these modest, unassuming, phenomenally talented young ladies are the best thing to happen to Rock in decades - this was their first hit when they were still in their early 20's and still trying to find their direction - definitly try Domination live next to see where they are today....
This is a band that really shine's when you hear them live so you really need to check out their concert videos, you won't be sorry
Just for a moment, forget they're all female and forget they're dressed as maids. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as that other great Japanese female led band Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April 2020. They're selling out US Venues left and right. I hope to see them in October at the Fillmore in Maryland.
This was the first MV and when it became an online hit the band was able to continue, they almost disbanded. Now they are the top hard rock band (IMO) out there now. Check out anything on their channel and you will be surprised at their range and ability to turn even the "poppiest" song into a power ballad. If you want really heavy and hard check our RINNE, fast power progressive, then check out NO GOD. There are so many to choose from, you are only starting.

Guys, Band-Maid is great for a hard rock girl band but for something more intense, check out the princesses of metal, LOVEBITES. I recommend starting with the video for "Shadowmaker" or "Glory To The World" then to "Winds of Transylvania" They are also great LIVE, I suggest "Break The Wall" and "Raise Some Hell" from their Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo show. You won't be disappointed.

Honestly, Band Maid's early work, which includes "Thrill" and "Real Existence" is simple and plain compared to their last 4 albums. In Band-Maid's early work, they were very controlled and managed; They were also force fed songs written by third parties. Once the band got more creative freedom, the girls got to write their own material. They also added a ton of more intricate musicianship to the songs.

Great reaction ! I am glad you picked up Band Maid, one of the best hard rock bands around. Please react to a Japanese all-female heavy metal band called Lovebites. They are, in my opinion ,one of the best metal bands in the world and have a dedicated fan base called Wolf Pack. They recently released a MV " Set the world on fire" live version.
You should see 'em now...'No God' Live...for example. Good shouts below for 'Domination' Live first though.

You can't leave it there. Don't think that this is the best that they can do just because it's had the most hits. It's their oldest video so it's had more time to collect hits and they are always bringing out new stuff. Every year there is an album with lots of new videos both studio and live. They usually do something for April fools day (this year it was Cluppo peace and love) the do acoustic versions of some of their songs and their interviews are usually very funny because most of them are kind of wacky. You will not believe how good they are live despite the fact that they normally do 2 hours plus concerts. You must check out music videos Blooming and Dice and live videos of WARNING and Freedom which has a drum solo. Don't stop.
If you like this, check out Lovebites. They are the Japanese all female version of Iron Maiden!!! Tight as a drum!

For a drum solo the obvious recommendation is Freedom live, some other amazing drum work on Rinne mv, Dice mv (bass also), Warning mv, Secret My Lips (highly recommended to react to it along with Secret Maiko Lips, an special version of it), and really all of them, because Akane knows how to beat those drums every time.
Some amazing lives are Domination, Real Existence, Onset, Play and No God, the last one without a crowd due to the virus, but still unreal good. There you have a new maidiac's starter pack, I hope you enjoy it and welcome to the café! 🤘🕊️

B-M MV are very good but their Live videos are times better because you see how talented these musicians really are in concert and how much fun they have on stage with each other.
