This is one of those times I just can't explain what I'm thinking because my thoughts are as crazy as this song was... If you like those rings, they have a buy 2 get 1 free deal going. Code is B2G1. gthic.com/?aff=137
Dude, laughing my ass off watching you try to decide where to pause at!🤣 It’s really hard to follow the YT rules during Play. And your instincts were spot on- Play was originally an instrumental but they loved it so much once it came together, Miku quickly penned some catchy crowd style lyrics to finish the studio work for the release.💪🏻🤘🏻 Edit: BTW, I recognize that Russian Chick Angst Pop playing in your background- nice one! And I’m not afraid of K-Pop either. G-idle is about as artistic and creative as it gets- totally self producing group that writes their own songs. Check em out!💪🏻🤘🏻
A little story if you don't mind... For me BLACKPINK & BAND-MAID will be forever linked. I'm a huge BLINK since debut, (8/8/16), I'm also from the states like you I happen to be In Bangkok last July to catch one of the last 3 shows, (day 2), of the BP world tour. After the show we went to a tap house for some drinks and Band Maid's Dice M/V came on. I've been hooked on these amazingly talented ladies ever since. Yes, BLACKPINK concert, and discovered BAND-MAID on the same day. It was a good day.
This is a nice version, but the one at Studio Coast in Shinkiba (2017) with Misa's intro solo is FAR BETTER. It's a shame that nowadays you can only watch it through other youtubers reactions.
Band Maid is awesome. Their music is so riff heavy, I love it. Great to see Miku’s progress especially because she couldn’t play guitar before forming the band. But if you want to talk about Crazy, this just popped up in my recommended list. th-cam.com/video/krk3EI1HI4I/w-d-xo.html. Another all girl j-pop band called Gacharic Spin. I just don’t know what to make of it.
I am old, not black and not a gang member so most western music over the past few years has let me cold. Then I discovered Band Maid. Superb musicians. talent off the scale and wonderful ladies full of fun and showmanship. And Kanami is a musical genius of that there can be no doubt. They have re energised my interest in rock I thought long dead. They are to be treasured.
That is a new intro to this song, giving Miku the light to show what she has learned. Play was originally an instrumental but Saiki asked them to add vocals.
I agree that what sets Band-Maid apart is how they can make songs that are hard rock, have "prog sensibilities," and yet have catchy melodic choruses. It's that perfect combination that makes them special. They never get pretentious with it either - there aren't any 10-minute freakouts or waffling around searching for a tune. It's all well-structured, concise, and never boring. And then add on top of that the fact that they always seem to be having a great time performing - smiling, laughing, making faces at each other and at the crowd. They are just a joy to watch. How could anyone not love this band??
"How can anyone not love this band??" well, you'd be surprised. i was watching another reactor reacting to a bandmaid song and someone commented how 'like all their live performances are bad. they always play out of tune.' then again, it's youtube...so maybe you wouldn't be surprised...lol. but i would agree with you, 100%. musically they are great, and performance wise they are great and entertaining on top of it, and as you said, have a great time doing it. which i think is an underrated aspect of some bands these days. but maybe that's just me.
@@kanamimoa4604 They don't realize that they use off-tune sound deliberately to make it sound interesting. Sonic youth did it a lot, and put many people off but I loved them. I love everything grungy, proggy or experimental.
Really they just feel next level, and Kanami is a rare talent, composing is hard yet her output is incredible, they lucked into a really great place as a band and as artists.
"The perfect 7 seconds..", that is awesome description. Maybe that is the way to describe Band-Maid songs.. "a synergistic series of perfect 7 second musical segments strung together to make great music"....
If bands were cars, Band Maid would be a pink Nissan GT-R with a Hello Kitty graphic wrap. Cute and girly-looking, but with a mean snarl coming from under the hood. The snarl then grows to a roar, the tires start to scream and smoke, and it's off to the races.
MISA!!!! MISA!!!!!! MISA!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!! I'm glad you are reacting to this today. The added intro is very cool and Miku sounding great. Miku is very Kawaii (cute) Don't worry about stopping the video too much. Many of us expect you to stop and explain your thoughts. It's why we are here.
Yeah... That intro is AWESOME! I´ve heard it for the first time on the last online liveshow, it just blew me away! At first i had the same thought: Is this an instrumental, are they just jamming? But then i heard the first "tones" of PLAY and i was like: SHUT UP! That was an intro? Yeah... If you can pull it off, you know... Why not?!
@@bastiknolle5155 No... You did not understand me... I know that, but i told to myself SHUT UP, because i couldn´t believe it´s just the intro for PLAY :)
When I received this DVD and watched it the first time, one of my thoughts (among many, of course) was: "Wow! Miku is really coming into her own as a guitarist!" She's really worked hard for it.
This is like the 3rd version of this song. The original was only an instrumental and the 2nd added Saiki's vocals but both versions didnt have the Miku solo parts in the beginning as she was still new to playing guitar. As you can see now, she's grown tremendously and most songs are being rewritten or newly created to have her take more parts in the instrumental solo sections. All hail our pigeon overlord!!! Po
what surprises me most about this performance is how incredibly different it is from the last live performance of it i watched, one of their most popular live performances, and they blew it out of the water with this one! even better than before, theyre evolving their music so well
You can listen to their songs a hundred times and still find something new. Band Maid is on another level through the genius of Kanami's writing and all these women collaborating together to put forth mind blowing music.
Some old dinosaur rock band from a century ago use to sing "forget all about that macho shit and learn how to play guitar". Miku took that advice to heart. Sacramento loves Band-Maid.
Dude! So I first heard of Band-Maid a little over a month ago, about the same time you did. You are at a disadvantage with your channel, not really being able to just dive in and check out any and all of their music. I admire your restraint, I couldn't do it. I watch a lot of the various reaction vids that are out there, but I always look forward to yours. I enjoy and appreciate your take as a musician and songwriter. So much better than the typical "Wow, they're so awesome (just like everyone else) " reactions. You mentioned how great it is when you get to see how someone responds to a song you really dig, that's what your vids are for me. Anyway, done rambling. Thanks, really enjoy the channel. 🎸
The reason I like Band-Maid is because how I feel when I hear them which is excitement. The way they structure their music is unique like Rush did with their music. It's just amazing.
SAY! when the DVD/BD of this concert released, they streamed a good 30 min of it as a PR for it on youtube. There was live-chat and all the band-members were on it. They were all laughing at Miku at the 10:08 (in your video) timestamp. That aggressive face, and her "SAY!" sounding like a chipmunk! they also said later, that they printed it out and hanged pictures around just to make fun of her :D she is kind of used to end up being the one made fun off, they know she takes it like a champ! They also include some of the memes into their official PR material :D oh yeah - also - notice on 08:27 in your video: Akane throwing funny faces at Saiki actually makes her laugh, her voice "cracks" in that moment as she is giggling! "Play" was written as an instrumental, but Saiki liked it very much, so they decided to make it a song. Miku came up fast with some easy lyrics. It's mostly about not "give up, just do it, more more, chin up yeah yeah yeah", very easy for the audience to remember and sing it with them. It's easy but catchy - and works wonderful on their live-gigs. their concert from Feb.14 is full of intros to various songs. this one for "Play" was introduced and played on their last US-tour also btw: T.A.T.U. as outro-music?! didn't expect that! ever heard the original russian versions?
Miku screaming “Sing!” at 10:08. Like throwing gasoline on a bonfire. At first I wondered where it came from - it was so unexpected. You could tell she was really into it. She really has evolved.
@@joblow71 no, it was actually "SAY!" she uses "say!" in her omajinai-times a lot, by just adding it to her shoutouts to signal the audience that it's their turn to repeat. sometimes it doesn't work as it should as the audience literally repeats the "say" in their response... which makes Miku herself giggle, so she just keeps adding it just for the joke of it the transcript to their live-chat (stay-home quarantine chatting/q&a with fans) after the show is here www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/ggrgnz/bandmaid_remote_live_talk_show_on_april_30_2020/ them talking about that "SAY!" part is from 16:20 mark on Miku has been solid on the guitar for quite a while now. Since 2017 pretty much loud enough in the mix. The difference between 2017 - 2018 and 2019 is very very noticeable. It just takes Kanami some time to rewrite parts of their older songs to feature the rhythm-g more, adding extra nuances to the lead-g, or she writes an extra intro like here. The mix on this DVD isn't the best sadly, as you can't hear both of the guitars clearly at all times. Sometimes you can, sometimes they are drowned somewhere... honestly, my take on it is as follows: if you watch the full dvd, and are somewhat familiar with their performances in smaller venues (fancams or actually being there in person), miku and saiki are both much much more relaxed there. On these official dvd concerts, you can see them both really trying to appear more professional. Miku is much more playful in smaller venues. Here she tries her best to be a pro and not to fail or miss a note or something. They also debuted most of the "Conqueror" stuff live here, so they haven't played a lot of it that often before, which also means a lot of extra pressure. That last song on that dvd is just absolutely beautiful (also) BECAUSE of that - both Miku and Saiki "made it through" and they show it... Kanami is always happy-face, Akane is nervous at first but as soon as she sits down, she goes bananas, and with MISA you couldn't tell anyway if she feels the pressure... Miku also isn't that playful on the "Zepp Tokyo" dvd, much more focused as on the smaller gigs. "Real Existence" f.e. on that is an exception (they played it numerous times before and had it in their blood at that time).
@@w.b.562 I wonder if Kanami was in an RF dead zone of sorts that was screwing with the reception from the wireless on her guitar. You notice on the one video from this live show (maybe Freedom?, I can't remember), that you can't hear Kanami at one point, but her guitar comes back better when she walks over to where Miku is. They try to iron all that out at soundcheck, but maybe the receiver started to fail.
@@joblow71 yes, I can't tell either. Maybe a wireless issue, maybe it's just from the style this was recorded, using the mics from the venue itself, instead from their boards directly, I don't know. Fact is, the mix in parts isn't the best (as good as the solo part in "Domination" was f.e. - you couldn't hear Mikus guitar nearly at all, and if you hear that they were going for - th-cam.com/video/wTTAK5Cs890/w-d-xo.html - it's just...). It was much better in their online-show if you go just for the instruments. Vocally the DVD was better. Let's see how the next one this weekend turns out... well... I won't be disappointed anyway :D (judging by the previous one)
I really enjoy that when Saiki's up there with Akane at 7:30, Akane is doing really exaggerated drum playing and makes Saiki actually crack up laughing trying to sing. They all love each other so much, how can you not enjoy them?
The thing about almost every b-m song, I realized, is that you can listen through it 6 times, focusing on the band and each member through each run, and you discover new things you don’t catch when you do one listen-through and try to listen to everything at once. OR it’s because I am no musician and don’t have trained ears and mind, and am just incapable.
The intro to “play” from the Studio Coast concert a few years back was totally awesome. This new intro with extra super power pigeon is crazy good. And of course, MISA MISA MISA!
Miku usually plays with that distorted, crunchy sound. You can really hear it on most of the Zepp 2018 concert tracks. Our Pigeon morphing before our eyes...Great reaction!
I remember when I first got into band maid it seemed like the most reacted live performances was play and moratorium but you probably didn’t hear it requested as much since the vids got taken down. I know a lot of ppl miss and may prefer the other performance but I liked this one because I like the miku intro more, they having way more fun if that’s even possible, and the energy from saiki and miku screaming at the crowd and getting it back in return is next level!
I think the vocals were better in the other video version. In this one they were playing around on stage and with the audience a bit more and it took a bit away from the vocal work.
This song was originally written as an instrumental. So Miku's lyrics were added as an afterthought. I always thought the intro of "Play" from the Zepp Tokyo dvd was the best 1 minute of rock ever. Sadly that version is no longer on YT. I'm glad they posted this updated version online. I think it's what they played on their US tour.
Can confirm they played it in Dallas at least, was an awesome show. When I heard them start into it on the Blu-Ray it got me really excited that we got the sneak peek!
You said that you weren't sure why they did that part, the kind of chorus. You forget that they include the audience in their songs. In this case the crowd knew the song well enough that they took the chorus away from Saiki and sang it themselves. In previous recordings Saiki sang the Yah yah yah, but this time the crowd did. This is a major part of their attraction.
I will say this I have been going to live performances for 30+ years, seen some of best bands inc my fav Dream theater and I have never seen anything like this!! For me this is the epitome of rock music and if I have to travel to Japan to see them live then so be it, it will be money well worth spent!! Btw great reaction , I feel you repeating everything I have thought of this band over the last few years!!
The new intro to this song is FIRE. When you heard two voices, there's definitely a backing track (turned way down, but it's there). You can especially hear it when Miku is walking around the stage late in the song but her vocal part is heard anyway. They do that on several songs where in the recording they layered the vocals - usually many layers singing more or less the same part to give it punch. Moratorium certainly has one when they play that live. Also, I may be wrong, but when you said you heard a synth part, I THINK that was Kanami. However, if it WAS the backing track with synth, it's probably Kanami playing it so I'm still right. ;-) Think about this crowd. They finish this song, and less than 10 seconds later Kanami rips the first chords of Domination. No chance to recover, it was an all out mad dash to the finish of that concert. I bet that crowd left SO. DRAINED. And 1000% happy. Some might even say Thrilled.
the first couple of minutes they were throwing fastballs to each other...setting up the stage and they hit you like a tornado. This was the first song I heard from them and I got lost for Misa...she plays the bass like a lead guitar. it is so distinctive if you find the way to see the song form their live show at Zepp Tokyo!
Epic live performance of "Play"!!! Always anticipating your reactions to all Band-Maid. Great to see Saiki smiling, laughing and being the queen she is. All 5 of the members are on the highest plain of musicianship and performance quality. Thanks. Peace. [Dude i loved hearing "t.A.T.u." in the background in your outro.]
Nice to react to MIKU's evolution ! How SAIKI stir up audience is characteristic in this performance Her yelling "Shibukou koiya" means Bring it on Shibuya ruffians Girls never use this expression She seems to even look for a fight But her characteristic of masculinity on the stage attracts Japanese audience
I love Band Maid! MISA is a beast on that bass. Whenever it's a nice night out where I live I take my projector out to back yard with my outdoor screen and play their videos. My neighbors listen to them whether they want to or not.
I've watched this video 4-5 times in the last several months, and this performance and your reactions are both classics. Keep up the great work, Champ.
I am so happy for Miku, she starts the band, gives up vocals to Saiki who is better for the band, picks up rhythm guitar and learns it on the fly as the band progresses (go back to the earlier MVs where she is basically strumming it) and sees her dream of a great band come true. All that as she took on more and more skilled musicians and let them have more control over the band, that kind of dedication with no DIVA ego wars is the exception and that is why they are so good, they actually love playing together and like one another.
I went back and listened to it...I agree, it's even better. Plus in the mix you can hear all the instruments and everything Kanami is playing very clearly.
@@alxvdark ahhh, you got the extended archive? I'm so jealous! I would die to hear it again. and for real, the audio mixing of that show was something else 💖 cant wait for sunday!
I don't know how you will find the video, but you should find the Secret My Lips live from the same show that your live Puzzle video came from(comes on the World Domination LE album in BD or DVD form).
The audience was actually doing the chorus, which was the chanting. The chorus, for the first sections of the song, was the chanting just before the pre-chorus "shake your body / hands up". I think? Forgot to mention... I think there are effects on Miku's mic, reverb/echo and distortion. It comes through on a few of their songs where Miku sounds like two vocalists.
They played Play with this intro on 2019 tours. Another (older) intro is in 'live 2017 at Shinkiba Studio Coast' (Tokyo). I hope you can find it somewhere. And in 2018 live at ZEPP Tokyo, they played intro-less version.
Yes, the most famous 'intro' of "Play" is from the Shinkiba Studio Coast show in 2017. I have the blu-ray disc. Zepp Tokyo from 2018 did not have a long intro.
Nice! Glad to see you on it this fast! And that's an intro they tacked on to the original song. The "real" (aka astudio) beginning is at 1:03 or so. Love the intro for it on this version, love Miku getting some shine in it, do wish they hadn't lowered Misa and Kanami in the mix, but it's still a solid sound. Just not quite as bass-tastic.
"At this point they are just making everyone else look bad" You really didn't need to say anything after that! 😂 As far as this being the most experimental song you have heard from them, well this song is nothing compared to "Screaming" if you can find a good video of it you should definitely check it out. At one point in Screaming it sounds as if all four musicians are playing in different time signature, yet it works! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🙂🔥💖
1:03 is where Play actually starts... (4:21 on your commentary) I like the new intro. I hope this is a new trend for them... re-releasing live videos that they've previously taken down! I'd really like for Moratorium to come back!
On the older version there is much more bass at the beginning, Misa was stunning. But what I like at this version is, that Miku can show, how good she is now. She made the biggest progress in the band and showed, nearly everything is possible if you really want.
This is song 21 of the concert and the ladies are wasting energy, stamina, mastery and fun in equal measure. I have not seen anything like that in forty years of listening to music.
If you listen to the last tone here, you might find it as the beginning in Domination. And that is what they are doing everytime on stage.Play one song after the other with nearly no break ( well, apart of Miku's magical moments ) and this for nearly two hours. Play was here the third song until it ends. There was only Domination and Endless story, then it is finished. See how much energy they still have, when many other bands seem to be tired.
If you browse their live concert footage all over the world, they play the same song with different intro to hype the moment, and there willmbe different tunes for different event,
Congratulation on the sponsorship! love your bandmaid reaction man. I would suggest their song "Dragon Cries" for the hot ass sexy blues kickin xD Cheers!
They literally never disappoint. The intro is new for this show. Very cool add that sounded and felt great. Loved it. They spice their live shows up with special adds like that all of the time. Now... I’ve been saying... Listen to Real Existence Live. Trust. Me.
This is BAND MAID telling the bands of the rest of the world "We are this [ ] much better than you". (would have gone bigger but that would have been obnoxious). I see Miku's been practicing. You go girl! I'm so glad that she's getting more and more front time. She deserves it. MISA is everyone's Favorite Barefoot Assassin Maid because of her self chosen look and persona but , more importantly, it's also because she KILLS IT, every single time.
Loving the work. Nice insight into the different way to react. Check the other live version of Play, The instrumental intro is not there, but the mix is a bit better I think
"Play" was originally to be an intrumental for Kanami, Misa, & Akane only, but Miku & Saiki really liked the music. Miku went of and quickly penned the lyrics and the song "play" was born. I 1st heard this song in a 2018 live performance with a different intro with Akane & Misa with Kanami kicking in with guitar. That version is actually my favorite and it's one of the heaviest, thunderous intros ever. I haven't seen it lately, so it may have been pulled from TH-cam, but it's worth a view if you can find it. Great review, Akane's pedal work and Misa's bass is amazing.
Now that I watched the whole video (lol). I love the way you break down the songs and provide such a great analysis on the sounds, composition, vocals etc. It's so great to hear this analysis. (I'm not a musician so I don't understand all the things they do or how difficult it is, I just appreciate great [amazing] music). Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the awesome video and commentary/analysis. Also one more thing, the quality on your videos is top notch! The sound quality is perfect so you can get the full BAND-MAID experience! Thanks again! Keep it up!!
Fyi, they did an extra intro not from the song. Miki has really grown. You need to listen to Screaming. It's sick rift is sick, you'll not be ready the moment you start There's also Shake That too!
This intro is new and only for their live performances in late 2019 onwards. They may stop using it at some Point in time. They like to change things up or give other songs new intros instead.
they did use the same intro in the online show! I'm sure about this! "Play" sounded better in the live online show - the mix was better! but obviously no crowd responses...
@@weilima9316 yeah, it's okay. reading my answer again, it sounds so "aggressive" :/ sorry :D i always look for these little Miku-parts, so I was damn sure they did the same intro in the online show. It sounded better, but she didn't have the cool stance as here :D
They surely experimented this song in many different ways, and they play different versions in live. I like this intro as well, but there are other good ones.
One of my favorite songs by them. Is there a video out there of their song Fate? Because that song is fire. I just haven’t found any official videos of it yet.
1. Yeah Miku does shine in this extended intro. She's grown a lot since Thrill.🕊🎸 2. I love how at this point they just do an amazing jam session that ends up in a song.
I prefer this over the studio coast version which was very popular before the video was taken down, for one main reason. Miku playing an active role. I know kanami’s the one who wrote her parts here too but its still a big jump in confidence from back then when all she did was play passive to the point where her volume was turned way down many times. I’m among the group in the fanbase who have always been very vocal about her and even saiki, lacking a lot compared to the powerhouse that is kanami, misa and akane. But that’s also the reason why I’ve been all the more clearer of how much they’ve improved in the last few years. This shibuya show was The show that compelled me to completely revaluate my opinions of them. One needs to just watch their most popular zepp concert and watch this to see that massive progress. Saki has upped her game by miles when it comes to crowd interaction and taking more ‘risks’ vocally like the growls, falsettos and even the highs. She used to play it too safe back then. Akane in an interview said that they all see themselves in the leading role and work hard not to be left behind by the others, and it definitely seems to be the case with how quickly they’re all improving. I’m glad that my opinions were proved wrong over time and I don’t have to butt heads with the stans anymore 🤣.
This was the first song I heard from Band Maid from the zep show. I was blown away. I wish they would release Time from that show it’s Miku at her finest.
This is technically the 4th version I know. Original was an instrumental then they added lyrics which is what's on the album. Then they added the drum and bass and lead solo intro last year. Now this is the newest version. The live version last year is no longer available but they're all awesome.
@paco acosta oh wow. Cool. I've been looking around for the version from the blu ray from the world domination release. Never heard the zepp version but I love moratorium from that show. That one is even harder to find cause it was limited. I'm hoping for a re release some day. I've been playing this show on repeat. Thanks for the info, now I have more research to do.
@paco acosta This is badass! Definitely never heard this version of Play live. Thank you again. Hopefully I can get the other concert from 2017 it is shortened to 18 songs. Once I get it I'll figure out a way to link it to you. I know you mentioned Studio Coast but it's possible we're thinking of the same show.
This is one of those times I just can't explain what I'm thinking because my thoughts are as crazy as this song was...

Exactly my story. All hail BandMaid!
"How can anyone not love this band??"
well, you'd be surprised. i was watching another reactor reacting to a bandmaid song and someone commented how 'like all their live performances are bad. they always play out of tune.'
then again, it's youtube...so maybe you wouldn't be surprised...lol.
but i would agree with you, 100%. musically they are great, and performance wise they are great and entertaining on top of it, and as you said, have a great time doing it. which i think is an underrated aspect of some bands these days. but maybe that's just me.
@@kanamimoa4604 dont worry..if they were the only one who says that band maid's performances are out of tune...they are the ones that are tone deaf 😆
"At this point they are just making everyone else look bad" Well that's World Domination Class!
Domination level: asian. ;o)
that got me a good laugh.
Perfect quate on a t-shirt!
To be honest I can just imagine that Nissan GT-R Black and White with the Badass Band-Maid logo ribbon all over the car.
@@Puyax01 Maybe a Miffi sticker as well
I think more like cute little stock looking Kei car with HP corvette engine mounted in place of rear seat.
@@JamesMartin-ci2fq the only cute thing would be the car key chain. That might be a hello kitty thing. Hehe
@@Puyax01 agreed.
MISA!!!! MISA!!!!!!
Exactly. Great post.
There are so many songs I wish we could suggest of they weren't taken down.
Why not?!
I'm also hearing shut up every time, but actually it's "shout out"
@@bastiknolle5155 No... You did not understand me... I know that, but i told to myself SHUT UP, because i couldn´t believe it´s just the intro for PLAY :)
They also give Buble an amazing intro
When the Pigeon says 'SING' you sing !
When "BAND MAID" was formed. "MIKU" was the first time I touched the guitar. Great guitar playing skills to level up.
The funky intro sounds sooo good. Miku the wonderful little pigeon proves to everyone that there ARE more than 2 bad-ass guitarists in BAND-MAID.
The reason I like Band-Maid is because how I feel when I hear them which is excitement. The way they structure their music is unique like Rush did with their music. It's just amazing.
Motto!! = More!!
More!! More!! More!! More!!......
BAND-MAID!!
SAY!
when the DVD/BD of this concert released, they streamed a good 30 min of it as a PR for it on youtube. There was live-chat and all the band-members were on it. They were all laughing at Miku at the 10:08 (in your video) timestamp. That aggressive face, and her "SAY!" sounding like a chipmunk! they also said later, that they printed it out and hanged pictures around just to make fun of her :D
she is kind of used to end up being the one made fun off, they know she takes it like a champ! They also include some of the memes into their official PR material :D
oh yeah - also - notice on 08:27 in your video:
Akane throwing funny faces at Saiki actually makes her laugh, her voice "cracks" in that moment as she is giggling!
"Play" was written as an instrumental, but Saiki liked it very much, so they decided to make it a song. Miku came up fast with some easy lyrics. It's mostly about not "give up, just do it, more more, chin up yeah yeah yeah", very easy for the audience to remember and sing it with them. It's easy but catchy - and works wonderful on their live-gigs.
their concert from Feb.14 is full of intros to various songs. this one for "Play" was introduced and played on their last US-tour also
btw:
T.A.T.U. as outro-music?! didn't expect that! ever heard the original russian versions?
Miku screaming “Sing!” at 10:08. Like throwing gasoline on a bonfire. At first I wondered where it came from - it was so unexpected. You could tell she was really into it. She really has evolved.
@@joblow71 no, it was actually "SAY!"
she uses "say!" in her omajinai-times a lot, by just adding it to her shoutouts to signal the audience that it's their turn to repeat. sometimes it doesn't work as it should as the audience literally repeats the "say" in their response... which makes Miku herself giggle, so she just keeps adding it just for the joke of it
the transcript to their live-chat (stay-home quarantine chatting/q&a with fans) after the show is here
www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/ggrgnz/bandmaid_remote_live_talk_show_on_april_30_2020/
them talking about that "SAY!" part is from 16:20 mark on
Miku has been solid on the guitar for quite a while now.
@@w.b.562 I just watched it again - It was at about 1:33 Kanami's guitar vanishes from the mix for about 15 seconds until she walks over to Miku.
At 5'7", MISA cannot go unnoticed. LOL
Our pigeon has come so far. Keep rocking Miku.
Miku usually plays with that distorted, crunchy sound. You can really hear it on most of the Zepp 2018 concert tracks. Our Pigeon morphing before our eyes...Great reaction!
I've heard Band-Maid evolves songs-they change intros, add solos, add bars, etc. A different way to keep it fresh.
knowledge is what this guy has, great reactions. Go Miku! Was originally to be an instrumental but Miku created lyrics for it.
I always prefer reactions from musicians. I need more than just "OMG! This band is cool!"
Misa the Bass Queen shows of her talent
It's really cool to watch you just fall in love with Band-Maid over and over and over again on a single song.
love this version of this song that intro is so fraggin awesome they are having so muuch fun
Can't wait. Band-Maid Sunday Live show is around the corner.
The zepp Tokyo version doesn't have extended intro. That was the sinkaba studio coast.
@@monke-mk5 You're right! Thanks.
This is the song that got me into them. The new part is the intro...
THIS is the song I've been waiting for you to hear
However, if it WAS the backing track with synth, it's probably Kanami playing it so I'm still right. ;-)
Think about this crowd. They finish this song, and less than 10 seconds later Kanami rips the first chords of Domination. No chance to recover, it was an all out mad dash to the finish of that concert. I bet that crowd left SO. DRAINED. And 1000% happy. Some might even say Thrilled.
Then they closed it with Endless Story, which is a stadium anthem if I ever heard one.....
You are right, is Kanami. Unbelievable.
Thrilled....heh I see what you did there
I believe Kanami is playing wither guitar run through a ring tone generator or some kind of Midi synth.
the first couple of minutes they were throwing fastballs to each other...setting up the stage and they hit you like a tornado. This was the first song I heard from them and I got lost for Misa...she plays the bass like a lead guitar. it is so distinctive if you find the way to see the song form their live show at Zepp Tokyo!
Excellent stuff. Appreciated your comments about how Band-Maid knows how to combine progressive styles of rock with awesomely catchy hooks and melody.
I love your Analysis even as a Non musician. The Analysis of Domination official video is your Masterpiece
How SAIKI stir up audience is characteristic in this performance
Her yelling "Shibukou koiya" means Bring it on Shibuya ruffians
Girls never use this expression She seems to even look for a fight
But her characteristic of masculinity on the stage attracts Japanese audience
That's awesome, I didn't know it. Thanks
You are welcome from Japan
Shibukō is an abbreviation of Shibuya Kōkaidō or Shibuya Public Hall, the name of the venue. It has nothing to do with ruffians.
I love Band Maid! MISA is a beast on that bass. Whenever it's a nice night out where I live I take my projector out to back yard with my outdoor screen and play their videos. My neighbors listen to them whether they want to or not.
That Miku part is what comes from having Kanami as a teacher and also from being in the best band in the world.
I've watched this video 4-5 times in the last several months, and this performance and your reactions are both classics. Keep up the great work, Champ.
Miku and Kanami are the Lennon/McCartney of modern rock music. BTW, yes, Kanami sings harmony to Miku every now and then.
If Band-Maid ever got divorced I'm pretty sure Miku would get custody of the kids, she does so much supporting role work.
the intro is really good but the one they played during the online okyu-ji was insane.

@paco acosta you are a godsend, thank you so much!!!!
I don't know how you will find the video, but you should find the Secret My Lips live from the same show that your live Puzzle video came from(comes on the World Domination LE album in BD or DVD form).
you need Band Maid on your wall man. I always luv your breakdowns.
Definitely the 2017 Studio Coast version.
As far as this being the most experimental song you have heard from them, well this song is nothing compared to "Screaming" if you can find a good video of it you should definitely check it out. At one point in Screaming it sounds as if all four musicians are playing in different time signature, yet it works! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🙂🔥💖
Let me second that Screaming selection. It rocks. And an older cover of MUCC'S Honey has a killer bass line. Best regards.
@@sacluvsBM Honey is a crazy little tune as well!
And they nailed it live.
They played Screaming on the last livestream.
Thank you.Very good explanation.I enjoyed it very much.
1:03 is where Play actually starts... (4:21 on your commentary) I like the new intro. I hope this is a new trend for them... re-releasing live videos that they've previously taken down! I'd really like for Moratorium to come back!
We want you to pause the video because we love your explanations. For me, and most probably all of your subs, you are the best Band-Maid reactor.
BAND-MAID sound, a mix of many genres wrap in hard rock. They are uniques.
On the older version there is much more bass at the beginning, Misa was stunning. But what I like at this version is, that Miku can show, how good she is now. She made the biggest progress in the band and showed, nearly everything is possible if you really want.
Its like Band-Maid knows a bunch of videos were taken down and they're slowly replacing them...I hope 🙏 🤘
Wow! First time I'm hearing this version. One thing with this band is when they play live, expect something special!
check out "rock in me", a solo singing performance by meiko. Great stuff!
And that led straight to Domination...
This is song 21 of the concert and the ladies are wasting energy, stamina, mastery and fun in equal measure. I have not seen anything like that in forty years of listening to music.
That was epic watching them blow your mind & leave you almost speechless! 🤯 = you!
There is no way out, it's gonna be all right.
Trust. Me.
This is BAND MAID telling the bands of the rest of the world "We are this [

I see Miku's been practicing. You go girl! I'm so glad that she's getting more and more front time. She deserves it.
MISA is everyone's Favorite Barefoot Assassin Maid because of her self chosen look and persona but , more importantly, it's also because she KILLS IT, every single time.

Great song, loved seeing you react to it for the first time.
Loving the work. Nice insight into the different way to react. Check the other live version of Play, The instrumental intro is not there, but the mix is a bit better I think
This is only a teaser for their next big concert at Budokan early next year!! So we can expected something amazing!!
Love from Philippines 🥰
Lovebites also dropped a new live video today. It was a great day before I even had my first sip of coffee!
8:29 Sai-chan trying to sing while laughing lol
Yo man! Thanks for getting the new BAND-MAID video as soon as it dropped!
Miku is using a vocal splitter...but Kanami does sing from time to time as well.
Just when you thought they couldn't be any greater, you find out that Kanami also has a university degree in Economics.
Fyi, they did an extra intro not from the song. Miki has really grown. You need to listen to Screaming. It's sick rift is sick, you'll not be ready the moment you start
There's also Shake That too!
Ah, yes...MISA, the tall dark one. This is probably my favorite Band-Maid song. It's always stuck in my head. I'm trying to be patient for Aug 16th!
This intro is new and only for their live performances in late 2019 onwards. They may stop using it at some
Point in time. They like to change things up or give other songs new intros instead.
they did use the same intro in the online show! I'm sure about this! "Play" sounded better in the live online show - the mix was better! but obviously no crowd responses...
W. B. Yes they did. Bad memory. I edited it already A minute after I posted the original.
@@weilima9316 yeah, it's okay. reading my answer again, it sounds so "aggressive" :/ sorry :D
i always look for these little Miku-parts, so I was damn sure they did the same intro in the online show. It sounded better, but she didn't have the cool stance as here :D
And to think, this song went straight into "Domination"......bludgeoning their fans with awesomeness....
They surely experimented this song in many different ways, and they play different versions in live. I like this intro as well, but there are other good ones.
One of my favorite songs by them. Is there a video out there of their song Fate? Because that song is fire. I just haven’t found any official videos of it yet.
hands down one of the best bands ever Band Maid rocks
🤘🤘❤🤘🤘 MISA MISA MISA!!!!! 🤘🤘
Sweet!!! 😁✌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
1. Yeah Miku does shine in this extended intro. She's grown a lot since Thrill.🕊🎸
Mincho channeling her inner Santana in the intro
Now I see why they took the original version of the live off TH-cam. This one has the intro and theirs more crowd participation.
This is technically the 4th version I know. Original was an instrumental then they added lyrics which is what's on the album. Then they added the drum and bass and lead solo intro last year. Now this is the newest version. The live version last year is no longer available but they're all awesome.
@paco acosta are you talking about the November 2017 show or the zepp tokyo show from 2018?
@paco acosta oh wow. Cool. I've been looking around for the version from the blu ray from the world domination release. Never heard the zepp version but I love moratorium from that show. That one is even harder to find cause it was limited. I'm hoping for a re release some day. I've been playing this show on repeat. Thanks for the info, now I have more research to do.
@paco acosta really? That would be awesome! I appreciate that. Thank you.
