1944 Canadian Army Emergency Ration MRE Review Survival Meal Ready to Eat Tasting Test

- This WW2 Canadian Emergency Ration was carried by all soldiers in their packs as a last ditch effort means of food. Pretty much their iron ration of the era - similar to the D Ration or British Emergency Ration in it's purpose, but not 100% the same in it's component breakdown. Well.. pretty much it is except instead of all chocolate, this one also gives you some really dry hardtack as well. So we check out how to make things a little more interesting when all you have are two components.
Huge thanks to mremountain.com/ for sending in this ration. It allowed us to open a specimen in much better shape than my own which is a very swelled can. Guaranteed mine will have a total bloat fest on that chocolate. Bloom will make the chocolate expand and in these old tins you will notice a "give" of sorts... but then others without that when you shake them. This is a great way to judge condition without having to open the can.

Awesome 👍
So back in your day, what were some popular "snack candies" or candy bars for teenagers and young adults? Seems like chocolate bars in some shape or form have always been the go-to whenever I see old advertisements or these MREs.
"Definitely has an off-putting visual appearance"
*takes a giant bite out of it*
I love Steve. haha
It takes an iron will to commit to eating something that's been sitting in a can across several decades with such enthusiasm.
he thought about it and took another one after that too LOL
couldnt believe he actually took a bite out of that shit
"It definitely looks like 30 year old chocolate and not 75 year old chocolate"
Imagine being an expert on the visual appearance and taste of decades old chocolate
My boy Steve is back with another classic!
Russell Brown 8 mins 3,000 views. Almost trampled in the rush for Steve’s passion and positivity. I don’t know why. But here I am.
Yessir, now to find some German or Japanese WW2 emergency rations. Now that would be a find.

There was a small hiss - he popped a small hole when he took the key off you can see in the lid and cardboard following. @1:42 small hole was made and @2:11 if watched slowly you can see the small hole in the lid and cardboard 🤓

Always great to see you too Austin! Glad you could check this one out - I also put a Chinese one out too. Hope you get some good rest & catch ya later!
These videos are great to watch on my cellphone with headphones on before going to sleep. They're interesting, mellow, and humorous at times, all while being humbly entertaining.
I think of it as something like a late night public broadcasting program played just before the station signs off for the night.
Yesss you’re back
Your videos bring me so much joy ❤️
Hey it's great to be back! Thanks so much man I am glad they can bring a little something. Gonna be back with more much sooner - got a ton of cool stuff pre filmed and now editing.
Man.... I’m subscribed to so many channels... but Steve you are the absolute top. I’m a frigging kid on Christmas morning when you drop a video. Thank you so much!
Yes, his last bout with food poisoning lasted longer than I had expected...
Steve, one of my family members just passed and I’ve been having a rough night, just saw you posted and without even watching the video yet you were able to bring a smile to my face. Love your videos and keep it up :)
Dooku Sloth - I’m sorry for your loss, friend. Yes, Steve’s videos have kept me company through some rough times, too. The never fail to cheer!
75 years old: "They smell just a little bit stale" LOL
Just like my nana use to smell
Anyone else look forward to every “Nice!” after putting stuff on the tray?
Looks like I will be postponing sleep, welcome back Steve.
Great to be back MrCthuloo! Back with more shortly - get some good rest man!
I put myself to sleep to your videos every single night!
This made me think of my great Uncle Elmer Havener who volunteered to fly for Canada 🇨🇦 against the Axis Alliance in WW2. He flew bombing missions over Europe and was killed very early on by heavy flak or an enemy plane, targeted fire, whatever. I especially love these old rations as the make me think of “the greatest generation”. I won’t argue with anyone over how they stack up then or now, all I know is my family was rife with volunteers to end the madness. Thank you Steve, I had a long day today and it was very calming to hear you as always. Thanks 🙏🏻
I watch Steve's videos on a separate window while I'm studying. It's like some kind of ASMR that helps me focus more

First time I watched a video from Steve was when I was supposed to be studying for an exam. Haha
I always say the same thing. This is my type of ASMR

This is the coolest TH-cam channel, I swear. Steve, I don't know how you make eating MREs so mesmerizing, haha.

Congrats for over 1 million Steve! Been here for a while and so happy to see you grow!!

So grateful to chill at the end of the day with Steve1989 and the sights and sounds of an old MRE. Nice.
He survived another video!
Just when I thought this week was going to suck, this brilliant man saves the day.
Steve, where I come from we call those stains on the chocolate 'fungus.'
Wow what an awesome review of a true WWII time capsule. This thing was in absolutely perfect shape, still completely 100% edible. A true classic ration, what a truly amazing experience to watch you review it!
The haircut is looking sharp my man
Thanks for sharing this little piece of Canadian history with us. I’m amazed it was still edible. Great video Steve.
Thank you for your appreciation in it, Don! This one was a fine little time capsule.

Steve I want to sincerely congratulate you on 1 million subs. I've been along for the ride since
Hey right on thank you Keefed! It's been quite the journey so far and back when I used to just take photo sets of this stuff and post on a small forum I'd never guess how it would have all panned out. Always working on new stuff and pushing the bar!
Army soldier: comes back from the dead.

I'm pretty sure Steve would eat a 1944 dated soldier.
There must be a few still alive though.
@@PersonOfBook about 500,000 WWII veterans (US) are still alive, roughly100,000 die each year.

AW man I love this guy! He's worth the wait. In this one, he speeds up his chewing every now and then. Cracks me up! I like to hear him chew. Notice how Steve shows the three different emergency rations. He's amazing. Thanks Steve. Looking forward to you next one already....J
Yay Steve is back, i saw the message pop up and literally gasped and said yay :) got to love Steve.
Anyone else get hungry and have to eat while watching Steve’s vids or just me?
There's something super satisfying about opening cans up with those little keys.
I envision Steve in his free time just sitting in his living room munching on MRE chocolate as he watches old war tapes.
Meanwhile in Europe our boys have the German army on the run.
He’s clearly sneaking some curls in there somewhere
Imagine if just a jug of maple syrup 😂
That wouldn't be so bad as maple syrup has no expiry date on the bottles thus everlasting!

@Edward Snowden I dunno, I have had a bottle in my cupboard for 10 years and it still looks like syrup.
Maple syrup has actualy a decent vitamin content too

Chinese pla 13 mre thats less than a year old he gets e coli. 74 year old emergency ration perfectly fine
118 year old British beef ration > 1 year old communist ration.
Well they put the e-coli in the mre at the factory
Probably it got tainted
The Ukrainian MRE gave him a medical bill worth 15000 $

Whaaaaaat? Did you have a test on rations?
SOLDIER!! Did you get permission from an officer to open THAT ration?! Thanks Steve . It's been awhile buddy.👍
Hey Donald! Great to see ya man! Heheh those warnings were strictly followed too. A soldier's pay was docked if he opened it prematurely. Been sitting on a couple of these for a long time. Now I don’t have to open them! Thanks Steve.
"It definitely has an off putting visual appearance......"
Chomp.
Yes! 1944 are you kidding! God I love WW2. My grandpa would probably disagree. It’s easy to romanticize WW2 looking back on it from the comfort of your home, but as my grandpa who served in Guam always said “war is hell”
뽀까 뽀까 I love the WW2 era. I love history if you don’t then you’re on the wrong channel bud.
Wait...
Why would you love WWII? There were so many deaths and so many buildings destroyed. This is by far the strangest comment I have ever seen in this comment section
Pedo Bear Do you love pedophilia? I mean it’s in your name........Obviously I don’t love death or destroyed buildings, I never said that. WW2 is history, it’s a story, it’s the greatest epic of our lifetime if not all of human history and the people who fought and lived and died were the greatest generation. Millions of people fought, each one has a story, each battle has a story, WW2 is reaching back to a time where youth were going out and serving their country and sacrificing everything for what they thought was right. Today youth take pictures of their food and make tik Tok videos. Try telling one of them that they’re going to go land on some island in the pacific and take it from the Japanese who fight to the death and that they likely won’t return either. I love the WW2 era, I love the losses that turned to triumphs, the courage everyone had on all sides. The wholesomeness people had back then. You can choose to view WW2 as death and destruction, but the death and destruction isn’t the true story, it’s merely the result, the people are. How is someone saying they love WW2 the strangest comment you’ve ever seen in this comment section? It’s quite obvious people love WW2 with how many movies and books and documentaries have been made about it and yet no matter how many are made it will never tell the full story, loving WW2 means you find it interesting, not that you love death lol.
Pedo Bear I think he‘s (or she’s?) saying it as in: “I love history and find the world war 2 era fascinating”. Not saying he loves war. It does sound strange the way it is phrased.
@@Arkeze Tbh I'm glad people can just do stuff like tiktok and take pics of their food now. I think those brave men and women hoped for a safer future without as much war. Peace is great

Hoping your feet are making progress. How are they anyway? That is so much more difficult than hands when it comes to terms of absolutely no pressure at all on them during healing. But that is just extra frustrating how one break seems to have led to that second one?
