This is a wonderful project. I'd love to see so much more of this being done. It's really hard work, as I know from our own experience trying to rewild some of our steep back paddock in Oamaru. It's not easy, but you WILL be rewarded in birdsong, and that's the real badge of honor! It's worth remembering what Jim Lynch, the hero who launched Zealandia, said: 'nothing worth doing can be completed in one lifetime, nothing worth doing can be achieved alone, nothing worth doing can be achieved without love for what you are doing."
Thanks for your encouragement. And you're right, it really is hard work, but so satisfying to get this first phase of the planting program completed. I've started recording 15 minutes of birdsong in two specific locations in early September each year. I hope the recorded volume and diversity will increase over the years.
@kauritrees 100%, but you can't build a house without the foundations. Looking forward to many more videos to come of the planting and evolution of the site. Your a beakon of hope in a storm of negatively
I'm doing quite a lot of planting up in Auckland. Reveg stuff. So this is very interesting to watch. Did I see that you're doing it in conjunction with one of the councils or something? Is it a test project?
@@davidblake8612 I’m not getting any support from a council. But I am working with Scion, who has received funding for a research project into indigenous forestry. Scion will be using my forest as a research site to inform their advice to commercial foresters.

Your a good bugger for doing this. I wish more people thought the same as you do regarding the next 100,200,500 years of life in NZ.
@@OffGridKiwi It’s exciting to reach this milestone, but getting on to planting the kauri trees will be much more significant.
