The rivet can be removed by filing two straight edges on the head, then grip it with locking pliers (vice grips, whatever you call them). Then simply unscrew anti-clockwise. Comes out with no fuss and no need to destroy the cover.
Next time use flat screwdriver and a hammer and just get behaind the plate so it can pull the pin out then straight the plate up and re use it with the pin after new lock or ?
Hey man. I just got my bike out form storage, brought it home and locked it, and now when I unlock it, the fork is still stuck. Do you think taking out the cover and rivet will allow me to pull the whole lock out?
It should as long as you can line that pin up with the brass spline. I would try and work it maybe with some Kroil spray... sounds like the pin is just stuck inside. You will have to buy a new cap and rivet if you do it that way. It was a weak design in my opinion. Good luck with it...
@@garrball1540 Thanks! I actually was able to twist the wheel hard enough to disengage the fork lock. I got a noticeable pop when I did it, so I'm not sure I'll be using the fork lock anymore!
Excellent vid. Very helpful. Thought I was going to have to drop the steering stock to get it out....
This saves me lots of hassle👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
