  • I'll show you exactly how to build this controller step-by-step at themodelrocket.com/controller
    Honestly the launch experience with the stock Estes controllers was just not very exciting, so I decided to make my own model rocket launch controllers. I wanted to try to re-create the build up and the excitement in the countdown towards launching the rocket just like in SpaceX launches and such (but on a model rocket scale), and having this controller TOTALLY changed the launch experience for me!
    I learned so much in the process of making this, and ended up ordering so many components and starting over so many times, but I finally got it to something I'm super pumped about. It was so frustrating that I actually documented every part that I bought, and filmed every step that I took, and compiled it into a super affordable course that shows YOU how to do the exact same thing and take your model rocket launches to the next level.
    It's called License to Launch and you can grab a copy at themodelrocket.com/controller and get started right away!
    License to Launch is the course I wish I had when I set out to make these controllers, and I can promise you it will save you a TON of time, money, and frustration trying to build these controllers from scratch. I'm pumped to build these controllers with you if you decide to grab a copy of the course. See you on the inside!

    Guys/Gals.... If you're questioning getting this video series, do it. I am super impressed with how thorough it is. He covers EVERYthing. I'm only on part 3 and I can tell this is going to be a smooth build. No one has a series out there like this. And the only really cool launcher I see for sale out there is $250 bucks on Etsy! Wha? GetOutHereWithThat!!! Be a man. Be a woman. Do it yourself! You can customize it just how you want it! I'm going to use a small 'handgun' style plastic suit case as the outer box. The turn key, toggle switches and big red launch button are so sweet. I even bought a megaphone for the countdown to make it more impressive for little kids. T minus 10.... 9... 8... 7.....

    I built several launch controllers back when Radio Shack was still around. I no longer have a source for parts. I've also built many launch pads, many out of office chair bases, automotive jackstands, mirror mount CB antenna brackets, etc. I use drill chucks to hold the launch rod. All metal, no plastic. They are real hobby grade stuff, not cheap toys like Estes and even AeroTech sells.

    I am interested in buying into the video series. I am doing a clustered launch and i want to ensure a strong voltage to the rocket and i want to use a motorcycle battery or small car battery as my voltage source does your videos include information on making this possible ?

    Very COOL!!...You mentioned next step may be use of Arduino card. Any Dates on that upgrade? I am proud owner of a couple Arduino cards I want to incorporate into a launch pad.
    Update... I ordered yesterday, have all the parts on order. Can’t wait to start building

    Your enable switch should be momentary, not a toggle. That way you won't have to worry about accidentally leaving it enabled and having it accidentally fire if someone bumps the launch button.

    • @themodelrocket220
      @themodelrocket220  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen that! One of the things I mention in our course is that I went with a toggle so that my 3 year old son can help me launch. He doesn't have the coordination to operate two momentary switches simultaneously. So we use extra safety measures and levels of caution when launching!!
      But under any other circumstances I 100% agree momentary would be the way to go!

  • @IsaacPiera
    @IsaacPiera 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could put a 7 segment display that shows a countdown when you press the button.You will need an Arduino which controls everything.

    • @themodelrocket220
      @themodelrocket220  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've thought about a 'next generation' to incorporate Arduino because that display would be epic.

    What are the ballpark costs for parts to build one as shown after we buy your plans?

    • @themodelrocket220
      @themodelrocket220  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to answer because it will completely change depending on the tools and parts you have already, and if you only build one controller you'll have lots of leftover pieces and wires so the next controller would be MUCH cheaper.
      If you have nothing my best guess is that the basic controller will cost you about $80. (again for most people it would be less). If you have nothing, I would guess the complex controller at most would be about $120 in parts.
      But again, we don't just give step-by-step how to follow us, but also teach the theory of how the controller works. The majority of people who watch our videos customize the design to make it their own. So if price is an issue there are always ways to customize it to bring the price down and fit what you need.

I'm not 100% using the controller for rocket model launches but it's completely related to that theme, I'm also designing a splitter so I split a 6 pin cable to a different number of pins cable... I don't know, to many ideas came to me at the same moment and I'm still trying to figure everything out.

    I’m currently working on FFG Star Wars TTRPG. Purchasing the sourcebooks. Which is getting kinda hard to find. Just missing three. After that I’ll be back to building flying model rockets.
    Just need some ideas. I’m thinking bout build my own flying model rocket launch controller out of a pelican case. But I need a bigger case. I want make it with voice authorization. Like how then “Admiral” kick set the self destruct sequence on the Enterprise A 1701. Instead it’s Computer this is master launch controller ______ request security access. Computer set auto launch/kill launch. Code 1: A1R1. Then code 2: A1R12B. Code three: 1B2BR13.
    Then finally code: Code 0000launch/kill Launch 0. That’s after you turn on the controller with the key. But that’s one idea.

    It was a great video. Seriously. Until it became an ad. I support Capitalism, it made our country great once. But really felt like it was a misleading video as you didn't show at all how to build the launch controller as I felt the title implied. Implied being the key word here; nothing in it says that you actually show how to build one of those awesome looking controllers. Thanks anyways.

      Not to build what he is showing. The continuity check is the kicker. I built my own controller and skipped that part because I didn't want to mess with figuring out integrating appropriate resistors. This is cool stuff. Would REALLY like to see how to handle multiple rockets.
