I love all that detail! It's just such an interesting item that I think a lot of people might just buy it for its looks. Great video, keep up the great work!😃
I think you’re right there Will. I suspect just like the W1 or Rocket a lot of people will get one of these because it’s something a bit different. Thanks for watching 😃
Fantastic, glad I was able to help you make a decision Danny. In my experience they're very good models so I hope you're just as happy with yours as I am with mine! Thanks for watching 😃
Great review. That is an awesome looking auto car. Happy to hear that you were able to get one that reminds you of the one you saw. Looks great on the modular layout too. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken
Sprung buffers are kinda useless with tension lock couplings anyway... they only really come into play as a useful or functional feature with 3 link or very close coupled stuff but even then only under certain circumstances. They are a gimmick really for 99% of the time, something for the hand of god to come down and press in and out😅
Yeah I don't think anyone seriously thinks that sprung buffers have much practical use. It's a nice feature to have but if it compromises the accuracy of the model then it's probably not worth it. I think Hornby have done the same with some of their smaller tank engines - the Pecketts and Terriers both spring to mind. Thanks for watching 😃
Seems to me they did a fantastic job on it. Great in a preservation setting. Having the petrol engine and dynamo represented is a great feature. Nice review, as well.
Thanks Goodness! A reviewer who pronounces 'Heljan' correctly! I'm gathering materials together to build one in Gauge1, so I bought the model earlier this year to use as a 'scale-up' to 1/32nd scale. It will have some kind of sound system installed, and r/c, too. wish me luck! I have to say that I'm somewhat saddened to see that in spite of having the most open cab I've ever seen on this kind of autocoach that there was no attempt to install a driver. The sight of this lovely model trundling around with an invisible driver is odd, to say the least.
As much as I hate the term "influencer", given that I have a bit of an audience I do feel I should try to get things right where I can 😅 Wow, that's quite an undertaking, best of luck with the project! Regarding figures, it's been an age old argument with all locos, especially diesels. It cropped up with the Bachmann 47 too and it came down to which end would you fit the crew in. You can't please everyone so I guess the manufacturers leave it up to us to customise the models. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi 1st real review on this model Like I said on tony north Eastern video Shame the lamp lights dont work. It looks a smooth runner and it nice to see it Some fantastic details on it too. Keep safe arp
Yes it is a shame about the lamps not working but like I said I can completely understand why not as it’s not like a diesel where they’re built into the body. I imagine some bright spark will get them working in the future though! Thanks for watching 😃
Very nice model, thats the one thing I like about heljan is there attention to detail to there locos, it has no cab lighting because heljan locos don't come with cab lighting for some reason and heljan locos are sensitive to dirt on the track, but its a very nice model and I'm thinking of getting one myself 😀
It does seem very nicely detailed and Heljan have done a great job. Interesting about the cab lights though, I wonder why that is. Thanks for watching 😃
While it is true that heljan don’t normally do cab lights the 18000 gas turbine locomotive done by rails of Sheffield in partnership with heljan does have cab lights.
@@adam_fordham yes it does but I do think I did hear it’s because the 18000 has a top light and when you turn the cab lights off with the switches on the bottom of the locomotive you turn that top light off, I imagine the rails 18100 will be the same because that is going to be very similar to the 18000 model in terms of specification.
@@davidstrains4910 yeah the 18000 was a good model and on spec wise the 18100 should be the same more or less, thats the kind of detail I like, might get the 18100 and put a decoder in it because I like the sound of the light function
The model is actually, modelled as it was built, as opposed to preservered condition. The grills on the roof are radiators for the petrol engine. Hence the engine detail.....the real one has just a black casing surrounding the engine.
Really wonderful model loco. I like the wheels on the autocar because only a few electric engines have spoke wheels. I'm interested in its history too.
Hey Edward, yeah the spoke wheels are a nice feature - and the fact that they’re only at one end is a interesting too. Have to admit I don’t know a huge amount the Autocar’s history myself aside from the material Rails and the trust have put out. Thanks for watching 😃
What a lovely electric car and great detail. Wish they had it in America I would get one and run it. It likes great running your layout can't wait to see it again. Thank you for that review. GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
It’s definitely a fun little engine. It’s almost like an American tram or street car in some ways… if you squint 😂 Glad you enjoyed seeing it run and thanks for watching 👍
Morning 🙂 First review I've watched of this model, well done! Question: Are there pickups on both bogies, I couldn't help noticing the lights flickering? I do fancy one, but with my trackwork 🙈 pickups on a single bogie simply wouldn't work.
Hi there, glad you enjoyed it. There are pickups on both bogies so no need to worry. I think some of the pickups on the trailing bogie of mine need slight adjustment though which is why the lights were flickering slightly. Not enough to make it stop though. Thanks for watching 👍
Hey! Could you make some more videos about your Mamod/Mss loco. I have purchased one in the last year or so and would like to see yours run on your garden railway!
Hi there, it's definitely something I'd like to do. Over the Summer I'm planning to do some work on the garden railway to improve it and if I have time I'd like to make some upgrades to the loco itself. But yes, the end goal is definitely to get the loco running on the garden railway! Thanks for watching 😃
That's pretty tricky since it really depends on what you like and want from a model railway. However, I would say the Hornby J15 is a fantastic tender loco and you can sometimes find them for a good price. For smaller engines the Hornby Peckett is nice looking engine that runs really well... it's obvious why they're so popular really. Both of those are under £150 at the moment so I hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
Awesome, sounds like my kind of layout! I do think this loco will be bought by a lot of people who just like the look of it because it’s a bit different. Thanks for watching 😃

While I'm glad to see that yours works, the one I've bought No.3171, I'm massively disappointed with it. Some part of the driven bogie is catching on the chassis/wheels causing it to bind up with going through curves (and I'm still waiting to hear from Rails technical department on how to actually fix this, if it's something I'm comfortable doing to fix the issue) and the mechanism for the way the driven bogie rotates is rubbish and far too stiff on mine. I'm on the fence as to whether or not to return it for a refund. I don't like being so negative over the model as it's a really great looking model and something unique and different to what's about, but I just feel so let down by it. Cheers
Oh no, that really sucks, sorry to hear that. You shouldn’t really have to go fixing models out of the box especially at this price so ultimately if you’re unhappy I would definitely contact Rails about a return or replacement. Hopefully they get back to you and you can get a working one fairly soon. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I hope so. It's something I'd like to keep around. On the weight as well, a Bachmann 94xx feels heavier than this, which I found surprising
Excellent review. Thanks for posting this. I have the DC version and frequently mix eras and indeed, countries on my layout. I bought an old Hornby LNER teak clerestory coach to occasionally use as the trailer. I also did an unboxing video on my channel. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Yes I think the Electric Autocar will get a lot of rule one purchases and there's nothing wrong with running whatever we like on our layouts. That's a good idea with adding the LNER coach for the trailer, I might try that myself sometime. Thanks for watching 😃
Really fantastic model. Did these rail busses only run with passengers? Or did they sometimes take one or two freight cars too? Super review 👍👍👍 Greetings from Belgium 🙋♂️🇧🇪 Erik
Hey Erik, as far as I know they were only used for passengers. From what I've seen they either ran on their own as in the video or with a single passenger trailer behind them. I haven't seen anything about them pulling freight but there's always Rule One 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
These look like lovely models and I have always been interested in the prototype just because it is so different. I would get one but can't justify it atm as I would rather eat than have a model train 😟😟
I've watched some of your other videos. I wish to acknowledge your voice. It is great to hear a consistent, professional voice-over-sounding voice. In particular, there is no uplift at the end of a sentence, which is commonplace nowadays. The latter is very irritating as those who use it sound like their statement is a question, e.g. they need clarification on their facts. A guy who regularly contributes to Hornby's TH-cam channel always does it; it's irritating and amateurish. You should give him some coaching on how to present. Finally, have you considered becoming a voice actor on radio, TV, etc.? Plenty of Brand Agencies could use your voice to market their client's products.
Hi there! Thanks, really glad you appreciate the voice over, I take a lot of care in making the videos as good as I can so it's always nice when it's appreciated. I actually work as an actor for my "day job" and have done plenty of voiceovers and voice acting in the past so it's something I've had a lot of practice at. Thanks for watching 😃
Interested to know why you sent yours back for a refund - mine (sound-fitted) has been back for flickering lights and cutting out - returned but only slightly better, problem still there.
@@memorialhall9032 Hi, Some of the problems: Derailing over switches and crossings. Sound, although good cutting out with a reverse move. Coach too light in my opinion. Not accurate with prototype at Embsay Railway. No exhaust in roof, no windscreen wipers, cheap pair of screw type couplings. White wall tyres! Sorry but for that price Heljan could do better. @@johnbrown9092 Thanks for your reply (to my alternative TH-cam address above).
