    Railway model retailing has become increasingly bizarre. It mainly consists of older people buying pre-hyped releases of small model runs, of uncertain reliability. It's competitive collecting, with a nod to scale modelling. What happened to going into a shop to buy a loco you had seen in the catalogue, and expecting it to be on the shelves?

      Ain't that the truth. Unfortunately I think it's fair to say those days aren't coming back.
      I had to wait 18 months for my preordered tillig loco. Not blaming them for anything, it's just what it is now

      hence why I buy silverfox warships etc on lima chassis, as I know they work and can be serviced

      You make really good points. I started watching one guy who just moans about his impulse buys after he gets around to giving them 'a' run after sitting on his shelf for years...collectors are bizarre, if you aren't buying to run them, buy static models and give others a chance to buy motor driven.. This whole preordering culture is a distortion.

    This makes my blood boil. I don't even care if you "stress the staff out" or not. You're the Customer. It's obviously the staff that are the problem. None of us should ever touch RoS after this.

      You don’t care if he stresses the staff out? If he was, why the hell should they put up with that? (I do stress IF). It don’t matter if you are a customer, everyone has the right to be able to work without being threatened or stressed out by customers etc. Again, I’m not accusing this chap from being aggressive but addressing your comment. Also we’ve only heard 1 side of this story.

    I find myself mystified by the whole situation. They don't want your custom but they seemed to want you to go ahead with the remaining pre orders. You spent a significant amount of money with them. Keep giving honest reviews. People need to know if there are shortcomings. Thanks for sharing your story. Regards Paul.

      Well, you may find that the preorders are based upon a non-refundable deposit, this of course guaranteeing funds for a limited production model.

    You’ve earned a sub right here! I got one won’t be buying from Rails anymore due to their behaviour here. Having come from a hobby retail background originally it’s really shocking to hear this as this isn’t the way you treat customers.
    Even IF (and it’s a big IF) they fee you have been rude, it’s on their part to let you know you’re being aggressive/uncooperative. I used to have to do this with customers and 90% of the time people correct their behaviour if done in the right way.
    You don’t deserve this treatment and it sucks that one of the bigger retailers gets away with treating someone who spend ALOT of money with them each year.

      Hmm, yeah, but it seems a bit sulky though, if Adi's version is accurate. They must know from their records that he's bought s fair bit of stuff from them, and if this is the only time he's been negative about a product(I don't know if it is), it's a bit of an over-reaction don't you think?... @@HamStrains

    I would never have expected Rails to be like that, and I’m honestly quite shocked by this. For Rails to be banning customers over a poor review on a product is honestly quite shameful. I’ve never ordered from Rails myself, but I know plenty of people do, usually with good customer service. I know for example that Sam had issues with his Rails exclusive terrier, and made his review, and after that he said in another video that Rails got in contact with him and said they would send him a replacement free of charge if he wanted, and he hadn’t even asked yet! That’s the main reason I find this shocking, and I’m very sorry that you have been kicked off their website. At least though their are other retailers like Hattons, Kernow, TMC, Derails, and many others, who evidently offer far better service. I can tell you for one thing that after hearing this, I never intend to order from Rails.

      Remember, that's NOT the reason rails have stated.
      Adi might be right that it's over a poor review, but we don't know. We don't know if rails were even aware of Adi's review.
      Fair call if you are not inclined to buy from rails, but bear in mind, like any review, it's a judgement call

      why are you saying its down to a review? Lots of people give bad reviews , dont get banned. He seems to keep telling us it has nothing to do with his calls but he over plays this for me. Would love to hear the calls as shops dont ban people who speak to them properly do they ?? You have heard why rails say he is banned , and yet you choose to believe him ? I am open minded and suggest he moves on and stops this nonsense

      Fails of Chuffield? Sounds like you've all been luckier than many with them, they can be appalling and as for Dapol? If one provides a critique on a model, and Dapol don't like it? The thought police step in. Dapol et al are the dog that wags the tail with the likes of RMWeb. Add in awful build quality from the CCP et al? The perfect storm, plus these are the days of cancel culture for "wrong think". Therefore nowt would surprise me.

    It’s truly shocking how sellers can miss treat their customers just off of bad products that they’re selling. it’s mine blowing to me that rails of Sheffield would even think about doing this. let alone actually doing it, but good luck, cheers mate, you make great Contant. keep up the good work.

    Sorry to hear this mate. I’ve had major issues with Rails due to their preordering system and I’ve had so many of them cancelled for no reasons. I don’t think I am going to continue using them anymore, especially knowing this is when they treat loyal customers.

    my biggest problem with rails of sheffield and hattons to be honest is they have grown too big, forgetting their humble beginnings and caring about the bottom line and not the customer. further more ive heard that both , when buying pre-owned from sellers they offer peanuts and sell on for close to original rrps. but when a shop spreads itself thinly by not only selling new and used but manufacturing too then customer care seems to suffer. thats from observations and what ive been told by a few dozen customers

      Most of the second hand items listed are really only spares or repair when you study the pictures . I would not buy from either shop anymore .

      @davew9360 agreed. I saw a duchess in 00 on one of them missing a coupling, buffers pony truck and leading truck but was listed at £90. Who in their right mind even offering a spares service using it for spares would buy that

      Hattons are great with me the other day me and my carer spent 37 mins sorting out my pre orders and giving me dates for them
      Same with kernow too.
      I've heard that alot that ros has changed but not for the good
      My local model shop offer peanut too.
      I brought in 6 diesels and all perfectly run no damage offered me £15 for all 6

    Sorry to learn about this.
    You mention attending the shop with a carer and Rails stated they were unhappy with your alleged attitude towards their staff.
    If your alleged attitude is directly related to a health condition which is covered by the Equality Act 2020, then Rails’ actions could be considered as unlawful Disability Discrimination (as defined by that act).
    If Rails’ staff were unhappy with your alleged attitude, then Rails could have discussed the alleged issues with a view to Rails being able to make reasonable adjustments (under Section 20 of the Equality Act 2010) in respect of future contact /visits with the shop.
    Disability discrimination is completely unacceptable and should be challenged.

I used to buy some bargains from them when they still stocked Hornby a few years ago. I’ve not dealt with them since then. I’m not in a rush to go back after hearing your story.     Hi Adi, what can i say mate. it seems like you can not have an honest opinion anymore. i am with others who have said carry on as you are. if it was not for your channel we would not have become good friends over the years. and it was great to finally get to meet you and dan. i always rely on your videos for your background knowledge of the loco's and the in depth reviews that you do. the stuff you don't always find on the box.
    It sad that they have treated you like this, and its their loss.

    I stopped buying from Rails years ago. I live in Australia and every time I ordered from their website they refused to deduct the VAT from the price.
    On top of that I found their prices were always rather high compared to other retailers.
    I found the straw that broke my back was when they made their exclusive models with Bachmann and yet again charged way over the odds for substandard models.
    I won't shop there. You have given me confirmation that I made the right call. You are not missing much. 😅

    Don't stop with your reviews fella. Sometimes the manufacturers fall short and that needs to be shown just as much as all the positive reviews they might get.

    I buy off Rails ebay shop but won't go to the Shop even though i live in Sheffied. This was due to ignorant staff and their attitude stood there talking and ignoring potential sales, in the end i just walked out and spent my money elsewhere.

      I have tried to purchase Rails items on ebay, but being in the US, it is, at best, a real hassle. They don't immediately accept any ebay buy; eventually they will, but sometimes the item has already gone. That being said, their service on-line direct has been quite good, even when I screw up my records and have to send an email to straighten out a situation.

    Hello Adi, sorry to hear about these issues. I've never had any problems with rails, but I must admit the D class is not always the best runner and does frequently stutter, which is a shame, because as you say, it does look good. Sadly this experience has put me off getting their new D1, which by several accounts is described as "light on its feet" (Hornby magazine) which means it doesn't have good haulage capability. If it doesn't sell well, and they reduce the ridiculous price, I may consider one in the future.

      As for the other d1 I believe it does not have any traction tyres
      In my opinion traction tyres are no need for.

    Hi Adi. I also got I consider to be a ban from Rails of Sheffield a year or two ago. I was ordering a loco from EBay and then I realised that I had already ordered the same loco from another store. I contacted Rails and explained the situation and explained that I had a short term problem. When I asked them to please cancel my order they said ok no problem. Then, a short while later, I was in the middle of ordering another loco from Rails when the salesperson on the other end of the phone asked me to confirm my name and then he said that he was sorry but I was banned from ordering anything from them. Granted, I hadn’t ordered anything like as much stock from them as you had but I thought that had adopted a very childish attitude so have not bothered with them since that day.

    Not dealt with Rails, but have dealt with dealer in scotland. Will not say who, because I may not be able to. Bought a bachmann class 37 from them, it turned out rough. Sent it back, and He emailed saying it was totally unacceptable. Not only did he send a new one, he also refunded my postage. Now he did not need to, but did. I will be returning to him for future purchases, as his service was brilliant.
    Just saying there are dealers out there that are top notch in service.

    Adi thanks for your openness in explaining what happened. Although I think there is more to this than we can see. I am surprised that Rails would behave like this as they must know that you are an influential model railway TH-camr. They are shooting themselves in the foot, and I agree that as Rails has grown it has lost the plot by not valuing customers and being tyrannical when challenged on quality. Please do not let a company like that upset you because that’s all they are, just a business out for profit. Nothing wrong with that of course, I used to own one myself. But to get reputation and loving customers you have to treat them with respect and gratitude. I will no longer buy from Rails and anything on pre-order is cancelled. Thanks for everything you do, your community really does appreciate you Adi

    I have worked for a company that did ban a customer and even involved the police. It was because of a physical attack, not just words.
    When customer's phone they did get a recorded message to show respect or we will hang up.
    But as far as I know, nobody was banned for anything verbal.
    We always believed the customer was important and given the opportunity to talk about any issues with product, service or staff.

    I think maybe Rails need to reply to this. I’m very surprised. I’ve bought a few second hand items from them in the past and never had issues when items were faulty or damaged in transit - they either offered a full refund if I sent back the item or a very fair partial refund if I elected to keep it and do necessary repairs myself.

      @@AdiPullentbh I’m totally out of touch with the way the model railway market works these days. I’ve been « off line » since I had to dismantle my layout for a house move in 2013. All my 2-rail stuff is boxed up awaiting THE ultimate layout when I retire in 5 years time.
      In the meantime this year I’ve started building a « retro » style layout in Hornby Dublo 3-rail and I’m having great fun, with the added advantage that these bullet proof die cast locos are dirt cheap compared to modern stuff and, with a bit of servicing run beautifully.

    can I suggest you buy, out of your allowances, an electrical test meter, and once you've learnt how to use it, check all your point blades, frogs and connections, watching the D, which does have poor pick-ups, seems to suggest a lack of contact, also set track points are only 1st radius and there may lie an issue with some locomotives.

      A d11 16 4-4-0
      And a 1p and 5g 0-4-4 that can do it and my hornby Sr schools class with traction tyres can do it no issues

    This is one side of a dispute, which inevitably has both supposition and bias inherent in it; even though someone tries to be entirely impartial, none of us are.
    There are so many unanswered questions this raises, that it appears certain that Rails shall have their own perespective on this, and I suspect it will be very differernt.

    Hi Adi, I myself have been a loyal customer to Rails of Sheffield since 2005. In my experiences, I have never had a bad experience with them like I have been treated by Howes Models which their behaviour is disgusting and I have banned them off my to deal with list. I always keep this in the back of my head that they need us more than we need them. So they will run out of shops before I run out of money. Had this been me. I would have demanded a written statement as to what the cause of the ban was by and if you have been unfairly treated, you can report them to trading standards if the reasons for banning you are invalid. If you can, get the details of the staff that claimed you were rude because you can take legal action against that staff member for false accusations. That said, there are many more other retailers that will enjoy your custom and it's their loss at the end of the day. I do honest model train reviews myself and I say it the way it is. I won't shut up for anyone and neither should you mate. People need honest reviewers like us that are stepping up to the plate to help the model railway community. Keep up the great work brother! :).

I have another supplier that will be a better replacement. I used to use Trains4U in Peterborough. Steve and Gareth are great people to deal with and I used to travel to Peterborough from Nottingham by train to visit their store in person. They treat their customers like family and I had many years of loyal custom to them. They will look after you mate and they also have an eBay store as well.

    Perhaps it will surprise you but what is interesting to a much wider audience is the history, quality and rarity of old models. Nothing scarce or unusual about new stuff except the latest "bells and whistles" and the list price......and the protection from the packaging if that is poor.

    Found your comments very interesting. Always found the staff at Rails helpful and never experienced any problems. This month alone, I have purchased numerous pieces of rolling stock for my collection. With regards the D Class loco I thought I would give it a run, in the like of your comments. It ran flawlessly straight from the cabinet with excellent sound functions and it was last run February of this year. The model was purchased 22nd June 2021.

    Another retailer intimated to me that since Hornby took over Oxford Rail items like the J26 and the 12 ton crane are probably never going to arrive, which is sad. Oxford Rail products were getting better and better.

    This is symptomatic of many retailers, Adi - & under the Distance Selling Regulations (Consumer Credit Act) RoS are deliberately not specifying their reasoning for the ban because they know under the aforementioned act, you are entitled to sue them. I find this rather poor & distasteful on their part, & in fact, I would rather take my business elsewhere - I'm not going to spend moneys, when because of one faulty unit - & a critique of same, RoS fabricate (& defame) your character. Such hypersensitivity from any retailer (without proven causation) is reprehensible, & thereby unworthy of your custom. Obtain your deposits, & forget about them - it's not worth concerning yourself over. Do take care, Sir,

      Hello, Adi. First of all, you're not "thick". I have a small business of my own, which involves selling to customers & dispatching same by post, & in that regard, it is in my own interests to understand 'Distance Selling Regulations'. I am what you might term as 'old school', & unless there's an iron-clad reason for preventing any customer from purchasing my goods (which there never has been), then I will always endeavour to promote customer satisfaction. The fact that RoS have not given you such an undertaking or reason for treating you so appallingly, is beyond comprehension; it is their loss, & from the reaction of my fellow commentators, it would appear they stand to lose more customers. What is astounding is that your review of that locomotive was not personal - you could have purchased that from any model retail outfit - it is Dapol's failure to manufacture a satisfactory product, yet for some unknown reason, RoS seem to have taken this to heart. Like you, I am unfailingly honest & direct, particularly with items that I buy - either in a high street shop or online. If such does not meet even the most basic of standards, then it is important to let both the retailer/manufacturer know, & thereby the only way they can improve their product (& service). Precious retailers are becoming more common, & in turn that makes the customer disinclined to purchase from them. Admittedly, the customer is not always right, but there are steps (as a seller) you can take so that both parties reach agreement, & ultimately, a satisfactory outcome. In your case, the other party are unjustified in their actions, & it will cost them dearly. If anyone is stupid, it is they & certainly not you. Enjoy the weekend ahead,

    Can I also suggest cleaning the tracks and wheels on the locomotive as this might help with running. I buy second hand locos and rolling stock because all the model railway brands are too expensive.

      @AdiPullen The only other thing I can think of is checking the track making sure that all the track is connected properly and that the track is straight as this has happened to me a couple of times. I have a run round loop and I have to keep adjusting it as the locos keep stopping when they're in the loop.

    Seems out of character for Rails , I’ve had nothing but excellent service from them . Whatever the reason Adi , my advice is don’t get angry , just move on . Misunderstandings happen in life . There are plenty of other mainstream retailers out there . Hattons, Derails , TMC to mention but a few , who I’m sure will appreciate your custom .

      Right - Hattons - gone (to Rails), Derails won't ship to U.S., leaves a thin line without Rails. I've had challenges at Rails, usually through myown ignorance or mis-tracking of my purchases or pre-orders, and have always been well-handled in correcting the situation. Their international shipping is reasonable, no profit in wrapping an extra layer of bag on a purchase, so, I have to say, so far, so good.

    I always use Bure Valley Models of Aylsham based at the Bure Valley Railway. Rails manage to fall out with certain manufacturers, so nothing suprises me with the way you have been treated. Keep up the good work Adi! 👍

    I do not now purchase Dapol linked products. Having received one of their "motorised" water towers, purchased as a present for me by a relative, it transpired that Dapol were using the same packaging for "motorised" and none motorised products. The one I received was non-motorised. When I phoned Dapol about this, the inference was the buyer should have been more careful.
    This attitude seems to be the way of the world nowadays. BUYER BEWARE.

    I'm not sure I follow that logic. A business cannot refuse you service due to certain proscribed characteristics (e.g gender, race, etc.), but otherwise you don't really have legal recourse for a ban on premises or refusal of service. You are legally entitled to a full refund of the D Class, of course.

    Curious but no real explanation given. I cannot tell from this whether Adi Pullen was rude and unreasonable to staff or not. This is only half the story. Its unlikely that someone would get banned for making a bad model review unless it slagged off the shop rather than the model itself. If its still up I'll look at that review now.

      @@AdiPullen Looked at the D class review, and for the model you had, the review was very reasonable. Possibly the reason that Rails of Sheffield don't want to cancel your pre-orders, apart from the £2200 turnover, is that they would be breaking the contract. You have a good channel with loads of reviews, so I subscribed. Thanks for recognising that third parties don't know the truth of things, as you do.

    You should be happy that you won't be dealing with this poorly run business there are thousands of model shops who will welcome you and deal with you openly and politely and with the amount you spend offer you special deals .     This sounds like they do not like a poor feedback /review of items they have sold you . I am blocked by a ebay dealer/seller for complaining about an item that was not as described and also a famous SPARES seller for complaining about not combining postage on small multiple order items even though he promised me he would combine orders . My orders total is minimal compared to what you are spending .My advice is use another shop or shops .

    It would appear to be a very thin skinned on their part. Very odd indeed, they should be able to take a bad review on the chin and are better off helping you to sort the issue out.

    Hi Adi, your video just proves my suspicion that dealing with some retailers (and also manufacturers) just gets worse.
    My account with another retailer from somewhere in Portishead has been suspended due to a 'high level of returns'.
    They have changed their system in June, so: one order, one return, a massive 100% returns. Wow!
    But yes, there are still some very good retailers with websites, email options and excellent existing customer service to order from.
    I would just avoid the biggest ones and support the smaller ones.

      At end of the day if the loco or rolling stock is not to your liking and is faulty
      Then you have the right to send it back.

    Shocking that a retailer should do this. Try Kernow Model Rail Centre, and talk to Wayne, he's very knowledgeable and an all round nice guy.
    Remember, you can spend your money anywhere, they're shooting themselves in the foot by banning customers like this. take care,,,

    This has made for uncomfortable reading and I believe there is merit in much of the responses given. Whichever ‘side’ of the story you plump for, I think it goes without saying that if a business gets ‘stressed out’ in the course of undertaking its business, perhaps they’re in the wrong ‘business’? That much we know is true if Rails have cited it.

    Take them on through the disability service for these calls are recorded so freedom of information can be used to get phone information. Again them them on. You would have a very good case.

    Would be good to hear the other side of the story. To 'ban' a customer spending 2k a year seems extreme without good reason. At the end of the day they have the right to refuse to do business with a particular customer, but I doubt we will ever get their side. To even block you from accessing the website takes a lot of effort too, as somehow they have to know what hardware and IP addresses you use to lock you out, especially difficult if using 4g or 5g and a phone.

    I got banned for complaining about a secondhand class 73 I bought that had bent pickups and didn’t run. They were bent beyond repair. Took them ages to sort out the complaint and once they had they banned me. The lady that runs the secondhand bit is impossible to deal with. Other retailers are available. Wouldn’t buy from them in principle now, even if I could. Which is a shame as I spend a lot of time in Sheffield just around the corner on Kiln Street with work.

      Totally agree ultimately it’s a manufacturer’s responsibility to ensure back to backs are correct for the gauge it’s advertised ie in other words if it’s listed as oo it should be oo not EM! Bad quality control if it’s out. PLUS some modern models are very delicate with very small detailing components it could be tricky to adjust b2b I’m sure if I’d spent £100 or more on a loco I’d return it for adjustments such as b2b, take off the rose tinted glasses buddy

    Thats how a company dies my friend and good riddance. I have had crappy experiences here but thats low. Also with my own company all phone calls are recorded as official business for the very reason as if they were to do something like this to me they would be easier to hit with court (it is mentioned during call that calls are recorded before the answer starts.)

    I have been stopped pre ordering stuff because i cancelled an order with them. They said it was ok on the phone. Then suddenly when i have tried to pre order since its not allowing me. So. I dont buy from them always felt they have an attitude.

    This is a shame to see. But I’ve had pretty rubbish service from them myself, which resulted in us agreeing to not do business with each other.
    Seems like things are fine all the while you don’t have a fault with something. But maybe it’s just me.
    It’s a shame either way. It seems like all parties should be able to be satisfied, if everyone acts reasonably.

    I can remember Rails of Sheffield when it was only open a few days a week before it became a full time retailer
    Back then it was family owned and ran, i have met John Barber, he bought a large number of items from me
    and always found them easy to deal with.
    But as said below, they have now grown as Hattons have, and seem to have lost that customer care that makes or in your
    case breaks down the once pleasant experience.
    Hattons became bad to deal with when Ian Hatton took charge, he was not a nice person at all and sadly paid the price
    with a fatal heart attack, i think Christine is now in charge but again like Rails they have become to big.

      Stick with them, good sellers are hard to find.
      Re Rails i did some research on them, John Hedley Barber and Tracy Samatha Barber along with two others
      are listed as directors, they have an oustanding charge on the company from HSBC Bank on the15/11/21
      that has not been satisfied.

    From your video and seeing you try to move it along, it seems the D Class wheels aren't all set at the same height on the horizontal. This makes the central wheel act like a pivot with the heavier rear wheel sitting lower and making the front bogie slightly raised which makes it foul when running over the points.
    A bit like a see-saw.

    Obviously I don't know your personal circumstances, but if you are classed as autistic or something along those lines that could course you to be considered abrupt or rude to staff, as long as you have explained this to a member of staff (so Rails is considered to have been informed), then to ban you for this, would be in breach of the equality act 2020 and Rails are committing an illegal offence. If this is so, please take some legal advice, even if its only from Citizens advice bureau. I myself am registered as Autistic, and when you get people like your local GP receptionist calling you names in front of people, and then for the manager of that practice to claim I was the one who was being abusive (despite having witnesses to prove otherwise) in order to dismiss a claim that they were in breach of the Equality Act 2020 (This is now in the hands of the Parliamentary Health onwardsman, and even the Care Quality Commission agreed the staff are poorly trained in matters like that and It was my official complaint that made the CQC carry out a inspection 2 years early and downgrade our GP practice from outstanding to requires improvement) It really makes you wonder how some people can be in a job where they have to deal with other people, and then complain when they either get someone with whom their can be communication issues or a versus reasons, or where there is a lack of understanding.
    I have to be blunt about Dapol, most their stuff is all for show and not for blow. I have never read or watched a positive review on there N gauge stuff, the only good stuff I have of theirs is either 20+ years old or rolling stock their still making from the old Wrenn range (Some of which dates back to the 1960s under Hornby Dublo). If you look at my model railway on youtube (Look for Bungay Railway Station), I have dapol signals. I have suffered a 25% failure rating, in some cases within in weeks of being new. People think the new 00 gauge loco to tender coupling is good, trust me it is likely to fail within a few years unless you leave it operantly coupled. I have phoned Dapol customer service a few times about their signals and just got told to return it to the shop I got it from, which is easier said than done once said signal has been installed and wired into the layout. I find the pickups, back to back measurement, and electronic component quality from Dapol all haphazard, which is why I will not buy anything manufactured from them any more. I will buy stuff 2nd hand if its cheap, because you don't mind having to do a few repairs or mods to make them run well. I find it amusing that there is at least one reviewer on here who never gives Rails or Dapol items bad reviews even when there issues as plain as the nose on my face, but constantly knock Hornby un-neededly for any little thing.
    I always look around for the best prices, most of the time I am able to get things of ebay, but when I do buy from a retailer, I now use Hattons.

    Keep doing your reviews as you say your the only one who does older locos and as the hobby gets more expensive more of us will be buying s/h models so to be able to see your thoughts on them will be even more important in future as for R.o.S I think they have treated you very baddly and before they banned you at the very least you should have had a letter or email about it so you could defend yourself. For a company to stop you buying when you have spent £2000 a year with them it madness and with nearly 7000 views for this video they may well lose a lot more we will have to see. Keep well and spend your money with a company who wants your custom. As for the pre-order as they do not want your custom they should cancel it and give you all the deposit back at the very least.

    I don't live far from Sheffield and have been to Rails of Sheffield shop a few times. I don't model 00 gauge anymore as I have moved onto 009 gauge instead due space issues. I found Rails to be mixed bag from good to bad I do think the business is not doing as well as it should. The fall out with Hornby I think as hit them harder than Hornby. They mostly sell Bachmann which is an expensive brand which limits their appeal the shop itself has limited stock often told to order online why have a shop if you telling people to go online? The staff were mostly ok to be fair I have noticed one TH-cam reviewer who seems to be a promoter for Rails they can do no wrong it seems. It's unlikely I will be trading with them now as 009 is mostly kits builds .

      Yes JK did a live stream from ROS a while back six hours of it no less! I don't follow JK way too biased. The reason for moving to 009 from 00 gauge was two fold space and cost. 00 gauge is getting too expensive.

    Rails has gone downhill post covid, all their second hand stuff is overpriced, they seem to have joined the Hattons philosophy of "we are great, you don't know what you are talking about, we have all the knowledge"
    Needless to say I don't bother with Hattons anymore either...

    Adi, I'm not surprised at all. I only bought one item from them... and I banned them ! They need the likes like JK to sponsor and make the most wonderful reviews that are far from reality. Now they shoot themselves in the foot. How 'clever' they really are !! Don't worry - there are much customer friendly retailers than ros.

    Hi Adi. I'm new to you're channel too. You have gained one more subscriber and Rails have just lost another customer. I wasn't happy with my last purchase from them either, after ripping me off for the VAT (I live in Oregon!) the item arrived damaged due to their lazy packaging efforts!

    I think it is important to hear the other side before making up one's mind about the issue in question. Whether R of S. are interested in stating their case remains to be seen. For viewers following this complaint and to assess its fairness some sort of statement from them ought to be forthcoming, though I rather suspect that they do not wish to enbroiled in a public defence of their decision.

    A bit sad to see a modern loco stalling on the points TBH, with decent pickup and a slight spring on the wheels, and no stupid rubber 'traction tyres' they should be perfect.
    For more grip, they can use magnetic wheels: simple.
    I actually oil my track (saves ever cleaning it) and just run what runs well. The modern railway hobbyist is obsessed with locos, when the real shortage is decent tracks and layouts - which is what people should be building.

      I have other 4-4-0 with traction tyres that can do them points and even my w4 b2 j70 can they are short wheel base too.

    That running problem I'm certain is track - I notice they are all insulated frog and some locomotives will play up.
    When communications fail things can get out of hand, Don't know more so can't comment other than I've not had
    any problems even when I had some faulty product.

      The issue with your comment is that I have other 4-4-0 traction tyres locos that can do it no issues even my Stephenson rocket and lion and my ofah 0-4-0 can

      I think we are getting a problem of changing standards. Old locomotives would run on almost anything, but it seem each new design & development is demanding higher & more tightly defined running environments.
      I'm drifting to small layouts and small locomotives, these one may expect to run through 1st radius curves, however it seems this is not the case. My Rapido 16" Hunslet 0-6-0 will not, yet my older Hornby Railroad 9F has had no problems until the chassis rotted and made it useless. Probably the most frightening was the Heljan, was it the gas turbine ? needed a minimum of 3rd radius !!
      What I do know is that my 2 x Peckett W4, Peckett B2, 2 x Rustons, Sentinel, Dapol (Old) L&Y Pug, do NOT like insulated frog pointwork, but work perfectly, even to a silly crawl on livefrog pointwork. So there truly is a case for matching ones locomotives to the trackwork - Just DON'T ask anyone what will & what won't, it would appear we need to find that out at our own expense !!! Not always funny at all.

    I have never seen a new loco behave that way. A majority of my locos are Old some are even nearly 50 years old and they don't run like that.

    That really sucks, very unusual to be blacklisted from a shop without something serious happening. Never had any bother with my videos (I'm a small channel though).
    Vote with your wallet, if theres anything you want from rails I'm sure you can use a proxy to order for you.

    Ok. Let's ban the customers who tell the truth about models. What a great business ethic. Customers are their lifeblood, so RoS needs to be avoided by everybody until they apologise to Adi and sort themselves out. RoS is the problem, not Adi.

    That’s awful! May well cancel my own remaining pre-order with them as an act of solidarity. I’ve had the odd issue with their customer service myself, but certainly not at the level you’ve had.

    About your D Class pronlem:-
    1 Is your track secure, as in pinned or glued?
    2. Did you check that the front coupler wasn't in the way of the rails?
    3. Did you run the locomotive in?
    I looked at the track with the said loco, and as I stated in the other video, that Ibcan see what the problem may be. The track in front of the crossing isn't lined up properly.
